Opus if you just want to listen.
Flac if you're going to do anything with it.

Why not just use WAV like a normal human being? FLAC compression can reduce file size as little as 10-20%. No point in jumping through a million hoops just for that.
>>55527412
Not him, but what hoops? There are none. The only hoops are for wav in terms of tags.
V0 if I have to use MP3. FLAC for archiving and ogg-vorbis for general use if possible.

The worst part is he's using HE-AAC audio encoding which is clearly inferior to Opus audio encoding.

>>55528040
HE-AAC isn't even meant to be transparent, just "good enough at low bitrates", you're supposed to use AAC-LC over 128kbps.
Opus is made for everything, from "ok" speech at 16kbps to transparent music at 192/160kbps

what's the best option between vorbis and opus? aren't they the same?
>>55528209
We have 256GB microsd cards and Android phones with 128GB of internal storage. So you can now achieve 384GB of total storage space on a phone.
Get with the times grandpa.
>>55528241
There are players with two sd card slots. Also I heard you can fit an msata ssd in classic ipods so you can have 512-1024 GB on the go. And since Android phones support USB OTG... Definitely not a problem.

I's not that m8. 20% of a 1TB disk would be 200GB. You don't save that much on disk space.
>>55528238
In quality: Opus>AAC>Vorbis>MP3
Everything that supports VP9 or AV1 will have to support Opus, at least in a Matroska container, so support should be getting better.
Low bitrates (<64kbps) are improved in the exp_lbr_tune branch, which should be part of 1.2
>>55528459
1411*0.8 = 1128.8kbps

Fun fact: you can strip useless padding bits from a 320kbps CBR and make it a VBR file with ~v0 bitrate. I forgot the name of the tool, though.

>>55528098
Opus is still better than HE-AAC v2
>>55528238
vorbis can be up to around 500 kb/s, but opus has much better compression, and lower bitrates sound pretty good on like a phone or midpriced computer speakers. If you want higher bitrates for hifi you may as well go lossless.

Even MP3s awith a bitrate of 320 aounds like I am listening to music through a fucking AM radio. I want this mp3 meme to die off already. Fucking dumb fuck normals are holding us back from good audio quality.
