Any other redmi note 3 pro owners feel like they finally found the perfect (or nearly perfect) cheap phone under $200?

The only bad thing was bloated MIUI and waiting a few days for permission to unlock MIUI. But now I flashed cynagenmod 13 and now it's perfect for me. I like it even more than my deceased OPO now.

I want to buy the RN3P so so much, but i don't know if i'll like the 5.5" since this will be my first smartphone.
I've had held the S4 mini, S6 and S7 in my hands. S4 mini is perfect for one handed usage, but way too small for typing, etc.
S6 and S7 are perfekt, especially the S7 is very comfortable..
Should i risk it and live with a 5.5" and over 8mm thick brick or go for the R3P, or wait for R4P or buy the OP3 and live with the disgusting battery?

I really suggest you buy the Redmi Note 3 pro. 5.5 inch phones might seem big the first time you get it but after a few weeks, you won't be able to go back down to small screen phones.

And the OP3 and Samsung flagships are more powerful than the R3P but for me personally, I care more about having long battery life than power. I don't need a snapdragon 820 because I rarely game on my phone. The snapdragon 650 is powerful enough for everything else you do in your smartphone.

Plus I use the FM radio a lot.

I'm an American who uses Verizon and needs to replace my Samsung Galaxy S3 that's given up the ghost. It did everything I wanted it to- phone calls, text, and time killing on the internet. Killed my g3 in water and I want to get something for <$250 and use ting (usa) or whatever is going to let me pay just a little to maintain a phone. Mostly I used the g3 to stream soundcloud at work and read.

I used to think like you but when I got my first smartphone (moto g) all the prejudices I had about modern phones disappeared from my mind.

you don't need to be a normal fag to take advantage of a smartphone's features, buy a mid range phone, you won't regret it.

reasons to get a smartphone:
-you can browse the internet while taking a shit, riding on the bus etc...
-GPS/maps
-good camera
-applications and games
-all your social media and communications in one place
-you can use it as a notification server
-if you use steam, the phone app is mandatory for any kind of trading.
-music player (spotify or your media app or choice)

reasons to not get a smartphone

- "muh privacy" (if the FBI/CIA/DHS wants your information they're going to get it one way or another so it doesn't matter if you have a smartphone)
>>

The gps is what's most important to me. I drive a lot and when I hit traffic, I really like having something that can redirect me around streets, especially if I'm out during rushhour. Being able to get audio books whenever for the drive or podcasts is a plus too.

Any phone lasts 24 ours if you don't do shit with it.

Looking to buy a smartphone, specifically the S7. I've never had a phone that wasn't part of a family plan, so I'm wondering what the best course for buying a phone is.

I'm leaning toward buying in full retail in case anything happens that somehow prevents me from paying during a 2 year contract. I'm also reading about the possibility of buying third party and then adding a plan. What's the typical or best way to do this?

There hasn't been an official release by cynagenmod yet. But other teams have released roms that are pretty stable now. I personally recommend the cynagenmod roms from either resurrection remix or mokee.

>>55512985
>banmyifyouwant? the santhosh?
Neither. I've been using a cynagenmod 13 rom released by a team of chinese developers called mokee. It's been pretty stable for me and has long battery life (about 10% decrease per hour). Everything like the finger reader, fm radio, etc works fine.

I haven't fully tested the rom from the remix team yet but everything seems to work fine on that one too.

Oh and you should make sure to apply for bootloader unlock permissions now. You need it to unlock your redmi's bootloader from the mi unlock tool.

http://en.miui.com/unlock/

You can also try the unofficial bootloader method but it something goes wrong from that method and you end up bricking your device you will have to open up your phone and unbrick it by messing with wires and shit.

I got my unlock code in 2 days by saying my phone was bricked.

So, Nexus is THE Google flagship. That means it gets the latest updates, the betas, everything straight from Google as soon as it gets out. This is a big deal in the Android world because OEMs usually take months before seeding updates out. It's basically the iOS update system in the best form Google can do.

Buy the iPhone se (you need to spend a little more). It will give you a lot of value for around $400. Will last you a long time too.
>>
>>55515671
Verizon has the most expensive service but by far the best coverage.

I use T-Mobile because I was doing a lot of international travel for my job and they offer free roaming with unlimited data and texting, so I never had to worry about getting local SIM cards, which was an absolute lifesaver for me. Their coverage in the US is decent but not great.

Can't say about Sprint except that I have some coworkers who have it and say it's not bad.

And should I avoid contracts? Everyone I know tells me I should but honestly I have no idea why.
>>
>>55515703
Normally I would never tell anyone to get an iPhone, but in your case it might not be so bad, since they're very simple and user friendly, if not even dumbed down(pandering to their target audience of course), and the iPhone SE is smaller, cheaper and still a decent enough phone that could be good for you.

But do research on Android too, especially if you like customization and more options to really make the phone yours.
>>
Are bumper cases any good or is the back panel important?
>>
>>55515729
Because contracts are hard to get out of and usually have hidden fees and hidden mumbo jumbo that will screw you over in the long run. If you can ever pay something off, do it. It will benefit you in the long run.
>>
>>55512299
Buy why wont it update normally?
>>
>>55515746
To be honest, I find most of the customizations useless for Android.
>>
>>55515729
T-Mobile doesn't have contracts, your monthly bill is your payment on the device, plus whatever your service through them is.

Verizon has contracts, I think it's 2 years before you can upgrade or something like that. Don't quote me on that.

Contracts means you do what they tell you you can do. You upgrade when they say they can upgrade, usually every 2 years or so, which in phone time can be a very long time. Also you're on contract, so if you decide you want to switch carriers for whatever reason you have to buy our your contract first, which can be very pricey.

It all just depends on your personal choice and what you need the phone for and how long you want the device, if you like upgrading or not.
For example T-Mobile has their Jump on Demand program where up to three times a year you can upgrade or change your phone, no questions asked up to 3 times a year. You have to turn in your old device and restart payments on the new device, but some people don't care since you're basically leasing the phones anyway. Lease to buy basically.
I walked in with an iPhone 6S and walked out with a Galaxy S7.

I really like T-Mobile, and they've been nothing but good to me, I just wish they had better coverage

I've been on all the carriers.

Verizon is soulless and just tries to rape your wallet at any opportunity.

AT&T is good coverage, had no real complaints but not a lot of good phone choices.

Sprint - LOL

T-Mobile was my fave of the big 4, good coverage, free data on a lot of data sucking entertainment services and pretty good customer service. Bit expensive though.

I'm on Project Fi now which is very reliable, coverage from T-Mobile and Sprint, and it's dead cheap. I pay $30 a month for what I was paying $75 for at T-Mobile. Has to be a Nexus phone though.

>>
>>55518707
How much money do you want to spend on it?
I have never tried it, but according to these threads I'd say Redmi Note 3 or Meizu MX Pro 5 (someone correct me if I'm being dumb).
AFAIK they're inexpensive mid-range phones with good-ish performance and really high battery life.
Pretty limited in terms of 3rd-party roms though, so check out MIUI before buying one to see if you like the UI.
>>
>>55518737
The lack of 3rd party roms worries me, but if these chink phones are proven to have a good lifetime then I'll have a look into them.
>>
>>55518763
The problem nowadays is there are really not a lot of phones fitting your description, unless you're willing to put a lot of money in it.
The closest would be a Sony Xperia Z5/Z5C, but unfortunately custom roms ruin the camera performance, which is already meh at best out of the box.

I almost got one, I'm glad I didn't.

After spending the past few hours on and off looking for a new phone at a good price from a trusted dealer, this is looking pretty tempting considering it comes from my carrier. I know there are ricing guides floating around for these, but how much ricing can you actually do on them other than moving folders around and changing the wallpaper?

I would have to download itunes, though...

Avoid LG. Product quality is poor as fuck. Bootloop aside, some G4s are having touchscreen issues, notification LED problems, slow battery charging, random overheating and countless minor software bugs. I was happy with this phone at first, but now I regret buying it.

Why is it shit? and they release weekly updates so kinda strange to bash support
Considering that redmi note 3 is the best selling smartphone of the 2016 so far... I kinda doubt they will try to fuck it up, when its obvious they went for the market share grab with the prices they put on it

also theres CM13 for it, if you really hate it get that...
and even with shipping, compared to what you pay for comparable in specs and features moto g plus you save 50-100€

Updates of MiUI constantly break the compatibility and/or functionality of several apps. I've even seen some updates that had serious problems with overhating and battery use. In fact, the last stable release for the Mi Pad is a well known battery drainer.

On the other hand, the devices get very slow after a few months of use. MiUI is just too bloated to be agile.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I have a bad experience with Xiaomi.

>>
>>55519692
For the Xperia? First time hearing it, had mine for awhile.
Biggest issue is that the adhesive holding on the screen started to fail, so right now it's held down by tape. Replacing the adhesive is only a temp fix that ust ends up repeating the same issue, so I ordered a different phone.

Sucks as I really loved this thing.
>>
>>55519790
This is my personal opinion: If you want a new phone, make sure you can buy it outright instead of going for a plan. If you can't save your money for stuff like that (I mean for gods sake it's just a phone and not a house) then you probably shouldn't buy it.

I prefer the buy outright + sim only way because in the end I'm not tied to one carrier and I have a plan which I can quit each month if I want to.

Looking for a little bit of help for my indecisiveness.

Bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 around two years ago because I needed a new phone. It was already 'out of date' then but I got a good deal on it. I rooted it but didn't install a custom ROM. Now I'm stuck on 4.3 and a lot of apps are shitting themselves compatibility wise and I can't play Pokemon Go.

I'm reading I can install a custom 4.4 ROM, but I'm thinking if my phone is going to be wiped and I'm putting all that effort into it then I may as well upgrade. I'll greentext some of the thoughts I'm having pro/con wise:

>Could only really afford to spend a maximum of £250 right now.
>Going on holiday in November so it'd be nice to have a faster phone with a better camera. Then again, I could just get a digital camera.
>Going with the 4.4 ROM would save me a lot of money, but it could still be a slow-ish phone.
>The S6 is already going down in price thanks to the S7 being out, but I read the S7 fixes a lot of S6's problems. I could be patient and wait for the S7 to drop in price and pick it up for a good deal.

Any recommendations on what I should do? Any potential phone models that might fit my needs if I choose to upgrade? Thanks a lot for the help, I know I'm indecisive.

I did some research and there are ways to get the app working on your S3 so I'm good hardware wise. Sorry for the ignorance, but would CM13 wipe my phone completely? How is it compatibility wise with bog standard normie apps (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc)?
>>
>>55516688
I forgot about T-Mobile offering free streaming for HD video and music.

T-Mobile just keeps coming up with ways to be better and better.

>>
>>55520746
I should also specify that Pokemon Go requires 4.4 to work. I'm stuck on 4.3 unless I go for a custom 4.4 ROM. How would CM13 play into all this? Sorry again for the stupidity.
>>
>>55520746
unlocking your bootloader wipes your phone completely, you can make a backup I think if you don't want to lose your messages.

CM is based on android 6.0.1 so it's better than 4.4.

https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9300

You need to look for your specific device on cyanogenmod (either you have a US carrierspecific device or the international version). I also didn't see a warning that installing cm would wipe your device, but no guarantee that I am right.
>>
>>55520792
I recently installed TWRP and CM13 on an old S4. You have the possibility to back up your data before flashing the new ROM.
CM13 itself runs on android 6.0.1 and works like a charm, so no worries there.
I'd strongly recommend you to for it and learn it from YT tutorials, after all its pretty straight forward.

Anyone know what the bitrate limitation is for the latest Android OS/hardware like the Nexus 6P?

I can play FLAC songs up to 3600-ish kbit, while some songs at 5000+ kbit need to be converted to a lower rate, otherwise it skips the tracks.

Or could it be the sample rate? The songs in question are a ridiculous 192,000 Hz.

Can't find it anywhere.

The DAC will be hardware limited to a certain bit level/sampling rate.

On top of that there may or may not be software limitations. The 6P is limited to 24-bit/96kHz according to GSMArena.

You should be able to find phones with DACs at 32/192 or more.

I have no idea why you want to have music at such a high bitrate though.

Autism, basically. I have the space on my phone and most of my music is FLAC, so it bothered me that I had to convert these specific songs down to 320 kbps MP3.

I've actually been waiting for this thread to come up again. Looking for some suggestions
I've had my brother in law's old S5 since December as a replacement to my fucked S3. I love the phone, but he didn't take the best care of it, so I'm faced with the choice of spending a few hundred to get somebody to replace the camera and midframe (I can't do it myself anymore as some medication left me with permanent side effects which make handsets challenging to work with) or I can get a new phone.
I'm looking for a device with expandable storage and good support for community ROMs, as well as physical keys (home button, power button and volume rocker) in addition to a reasonably large screen with a minimum resolution of 1080*1920-- I wouldn't go any smaller than the S5. This is all well and good, but an IR blaster is hard to find which has made my life far easier. I would be looking to flash a ROM fairly close to stock and using Xposed framework which I quite miss (not supported on my S5) running at Android 6.0
Through research, I haven't been able to find anything. I was going to look into the Note 5 until I remembered that storage was not expandable. Waterproof is definitely a plus, but not a necessity. I'm in Australia and happy to use almost any carrier if need be, though I'd likely unlock the device if I bought it outright. As for cost, lower is better depending on what sacrifices need to be made. I would have taken up a plan for the S7/S7 Edge if an IR blaster was featured. I can't find any sense in going for an older device such as a Note 3 which aside from age is quite close to what I need. I have no brand loyalty, though I've grown rather fond of the physical aspects of Samsung devices. Thanks to all in advance.
