/v/irgin here, i want to learn about hacking/security to give myself something to do besides waste my life on videogames.

i use windows 7, are there any go-to programs i should use to ensure anonymity? ive done a bit of research and most of it says hacking anything from a windows operating system is usually a bad idea. im new to this shit though so any general advice is really appreciated.

It's my first time buying a processor and I've settled with the i5 6500, I'm wondering if it comes with a tube of thermal paste or at least it pre-applied.
>>
>>55265917
If you're not getting a K variant (which you aren't), then there is some paste pre-applied to the heatsink.
>>
>>55265846
Yeah that or 390/Nvidia equivalent
>>
>>55265846
I'd go with the 480 when it comes out.
Some games are still quite demanding on the 380/X even at 1080p.
>>
>>55265861
Windows will just hold you back because most of the "hacking" software is written for lunixes and the AV/firewall software will screw with the stuff you're running. Just put Kali Linux on a flash drive and dual boot. As for starters guide, look for the wiki page on /r/netsec, it's got all you need to start.
>>
>>55265924
Yeah, I was considering the 6600K, but if I do get the 6600k I'll still have to buy thermal paste right?
>>
>>55265950
Not only the thermal paste, you don't even get a cooler with the 6600K / 6700K
>>
>>55265969
Most aftermarket coolers come with a tube of generic paste anyways.
>>
>>55265969
I know that the 6600K doesn't come with a stock cooler, I just wanted to know if the CPU came with the paste, thank you by the way
>>
>>55265940

I'm gonna build a computer in a few weeks (waiting for the RX 480 and maybe GTX 1060 if it comes before august).
Will the 480 and i5 6600 will work well together (no bottleneck) ?
Since it only draws 150W maximum, what PSU will be required ? I'm guessing a 300W or 350W would be enough.
>>
>>55266213
You can't even buy good PSU's less than 450W
480 and 6600 is really quite balanced.

I checked. Be quiet have a nice 400W PSU gold certified. I'll probably look at that after all the reviews. I'll check again later once the GPU is released.

You have to cd to the directory if it's not in your cmd prompt's home dir. Google how to change the home path on Windows and save all your files there.

If it's in that dir, just type the filename with or without the file extension.

>How can I test a usb port?
I've noticed different ports on the same machine act differently.

I have a wireless remote that stutters when the receiver is plugged into the back IO but when it's in the front IO it's flawless.

I thought it might have been a distance or interference issue so I ran an extension from the back IO so that the receiver was near the front IO but still stuttered. Also some devices straight up don't work in some ports but work in others?

In an advertisement for a motherboard with one of these the spokesperson talked about complex hardware/software authentication keys for special programs and access. Basically some advanced security setups have uses for them as hard keys with semi-permanence, i.e. not changing computers everyday but not going to pay for custom locked motherboards.

I like the idea as I could use them for lots of things.

Like a second OS that boots from USB, a modified non-persistence one is very secure and wipes all activity at shutdown, others files could be on encrypted on second drive for on going memory. Thing hiding files through non-promoted BIOS options, only a very deep IT scan could detect it and it still wouldn't know what it was.

>>
>>55268137

>>
>>55267911
You won't find it.

The beauty that is Gentoo is that each OS is custom built by you for your application on your hardware, thus giving you phenomenal performance gains.

Thus your Gentoo is a special snowflake and no one could just give you a how to guide for it, expect the very general Gentoo coding rules set which next to none of the systems follow.

Thus the thrill is to constantly maintain that huge performance curve that could break at any second do to some update or minute system change.

You can spend so much time fixing and improving your setup you may never brother to actually use such a powerful setup for your original goals as you realize working on Gentoo is the joy of Gentoo.

Anyone experienced with GPU BIOS flashing/modding here ?

I've got this MSI GTX 960 4GB, good enough card for my purposes, but much to my disappointment it doesn't turn its fans off when idling. I thought this was a standard feature on the 900 series and didn't think much of specifically looking for a card that does this.

Does anyone know how to go about making this happen ?
I see that MSI's GTX 960 GAMING 4G aka Twin Frozr (looks like the exact same heatsink with a few cosmetic differences to the shroud, too) does turn its fans off. Should I just see about getting my hands on a BIOS from that particular model and flashing it onto my card, or something else ?

And on another note, does anyone know of a fan controller that allows for turning system fans on and off based on temperature ? I'd like to turn all my fans off when my system is idling and just have them ramp up when needed.

laptops are supposed to be portable, that's why they are pretty cramped. the case is made for these parts to fit in and not others
if you add the option to fit any parts you couldn't make them as small.

So I got a new mobo and case this weekend and moved everything over. When I was powering things on for the first time it had a lot of trouble like I thought it would, and it took probably 30-50 boots to get everything running with overclocking. I was doing all of this on sorta autopilot, probably not paying as much attention as I should have to the temperatures.

Anyway, I was looking through my system event log and found that at some point through all of this (after booting successfully to windows) there was an unexpected shutdown and the boot right after that reports kernel information along with temp and it's almost 100C.... At some other point in the process I realized that one radiator fan was unplugged so it would have booted fine but not really cooled well. I assumed that the frequent shutdowns were due to overclocking instability and was letting it fail to boot over and over (about 4 times in a row would revert BIOS changes so I could go back in and try again) because I couldn't see anything otherwise. Possibly it was shutting down due to thermal problems over and over?

Now it's idling at 48 C, is the thermal paste wrecked or something? I usually had trouble getting it over 40 when benchmarking (i7 2600K at 4.5 GHz)

It's a rare error, not much to be found about it.
It looks like it has something to do with there being another Person class, or that you're compiling for one library, but using another at run-time.

If I had to guess, you might have a file in your project somewhere with the "Person" class inside of it.

Otherwise, I'm really not too sure. You can find some more help here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6686753/nosuchfielderror-java

>>
>>55271216
You're declaring the Person's properties without a visibulity modifier

In Java they default to private if you don't specifically state public

Private fields means you can't just assign values without using getters and setters. Look up encapsulation to learn more

If you want to instantiate an object like that with default values, create a Constructor, or set the fields as public so you can modify them

example:

class Person {
public String name;
public int age;
public int birth;

public Person(String n, int a, int b) {
this.name = n;
this.age = a;
this.birth = b;
}
}

public class App3 {

public static void main(String[] args) {

Person person1 = new Person("Joe Bloggs", 37, 1);

person1.age = 42;
}

}

Just tell them it doesn't boot up

I did that with a 280x (albeit it was an ATI card) when I bought it from a miner, they sent me a brand new one

Not sure if the warranty policies are similar

At least ensure it still has its warranty and if you can't get it with a receipt and original box, don't buy it. You need the code on the box for the warranty

I don't have any gaps because I never spend more than a few days being lazy and playing games all day or whatever unless it's the semester break. Even if I did want to do that for a year, I could just enroll in some major that is unrelated to what I want to study (so it doesn't matter if I fail), get the money for the semester train ticket back and that's it.

I'm currently using an Xbox (2001) with my 1080p60Hz desktop monitor, using a Component to HDMI converter box (no upscaling). It looks really good from a distance, but if I'm sitting up close, I notice what I can only describe as a shimmering effect and a stream of purple-pink pixels moving across the screen. Any idea what exactly I'm experiencing here? I've already tested this exact same configuration with the same console, hdmi cord, and converter on my television and it looks perfect from any distance. Also, my monitor has none of these issues when using my PC, PS3 and WiiU with HDMI.

@Override
public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {

public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) {
String sString = s.toString();
List<String> Shows = Arrays.asList("Breaking Bad", "Lost", "The Office");
boolean contains = Shows.contains(sString);

Log.d("Wut", "Searching for: " + sString);

if( contains ) {
Log.d("Wut", "Show found");
}
}

@Override
public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {

}
});
}

I have a text input. All I need to use is the onTextChanged method. When I erase beforeTextChanged or afterTextChanged, I get the error "Class 'Anonymous class derived from TextWatcher' must either be declared abstract or implement abstract method beforeTextChanged... etc".

How do I declare the class as abstract? Or do I just leave the empty methods there?
