Need new phone

Specs by priority:
5-5.2"
LTE band 20 (800) for muh european carriers
2-3GB RAM
Good battery life
Price under 250€, used is ok, 2014 phones are ok
MicroSD
Full HD screen

What I don't want:
Sony Z series: Tiniest crack in digitizer means unusable phone, replacing screens on these is ass

Asus Zenphone 2 by far.

Is there a way (app/root or otherwise) of changing the recent app menu of a Samsung to make it more like the simple list of stock android?

I really don't like shuffling card deck function they have but it looks like I'll be getting an S7 to replace my current nexus.

I'm pretty sure the redmi is faster. The OPX has a processor from like 2-3 years ago.

OPX has the 801, same as Z2, totally enough for me

My current Sony Z2 with its 5.2" already feels a bit too big, but I will take a look at the actual measurements

Ah, I haven't updated my nexus in a while; still have the simple and quick functioning list.

Is the redmi note 3 pro really that good? Why is MIUI listed as a pro? I just want something that will give me great battery life, good updates, expandable storage, and a finger print reader. After years of being a Samshill, I've come to detest anything that isn't near-stock android.

Should I just wait for the moto G4 plus for actual support, reliable updates, stock, and cases?
>>
Nexus 5x 16gb for £175 - good deal, anons?
>>
>>54928460
It has very good specs for the money. SD650, 3GB RAM, 4100 mAh battery, SD slot, fingerprint reader etc.

If you hated touchwizz though you'll hate MiUi, it's an iOS clone that doesn't resemble stock android in any way. but you can flash AOSP or CM13 if your'e into that.
>>
>>54928513
You won't get any better for that price. Just make sure you can be okay with only 10gb of free space.
>>
>>54928528
Do the roms have any issues? I know people will often times experience weird quirks or lack of functionality from their fingerprint readers when using cyanogen and whatnot.
>>
>>54928460
I'm reading anandtech's review for the Sony X right now, and the redmi note 3 pro is consistently in the middle of the pack for every benchmark test, even though it costs like 180-220 USD, which is insane.

The only downsides are bad camera and it doesnt have band support for everything under the sun
>>
>>54928513
I struggle mightily with 16gbs and no SD card on my moto x. But if that doesn't bother you, that's an amazing deal.
>>
>>54928577
I know that happens with Samsung units, because of their proprietary frameworks that govern their hardware.
Lurk some XDA ROM forums and see if people have issues with specific ROMs first.

One thing I found out while browsing and reading recommendations: Don't go just by screen diameter, check the actual dimensions of the phone (if you have a reference phone). Sony Z2 (5.2") and LG G3 (5.5") are actually only 1mm on each side apart..

MediaTek, mediocore cam, not full HD and i'm willing to pay more.

Don't really care about ROMs that much. Yes it's nice, but not a must have. The P9 Lite looks great, but imo it's to expensive for what it offers if you compare it to other chink phones

I'd really like the OPX, simply change the cpu to SD650, give it a bigger battery like 3500mAh and sell it for 300€. Perfect phone.

Pretty sure it will, MiUi 8 is based on Android 6 and it should come out soon.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 delivered great audio output when hooked up to an active external amplifier. The flagship was not only able to match the best for clarity, it also delivered splendidly high volume for arguably the best performance among the 2016 flagships so far.

>Stereo crosstalk was the only reading to be affected when headphones came into play and the increase was rather well contained. The rest of the readings remained unchanged and so did loudness for a truly impressive showing.

looking through the recommended chinkshit list now. It's for my mom and she's pretty dumb,so she might not be receptive to an "off-name" brand. The new vivo phones look excellent but she also don't want too big of a phone. Anything with Android 6.0 would be great since I can fuse her sd card with her phone internals. Her current problem is that she kept buying shit phones without my input and when she runs out of memory she cant install all of her apps to the phone and she complains and now she has money and wants me to choose one for her.

Say I have two phones, basically what you see here:

They're identical except for the SoC. So my question is,

1. Is it possible to remove the SoC from one phone and attach it to the other? Assuming you flash the proper software, will that work?
2. Can you flash the dual-core OS onto the quad-core system and not have things fuck up?

Have:galaxy s3
Need:
good cyanogen support, possibly for a long time (the s3 still gets cm13 nightlies every day)
Physical buttons ( like the s3)
Amoled screen would be nice, but only because of the "muh save battery" meme

This is a bait right because ZF2 keeps updating every 2-3 weeks. One reason why ZF2 doesn't have marshmallow updates is because of Intel.

Actually, check ifixit's teardown; both the S7 and the edge are difficult (and likely costly) to repair.
Samsung sewed up all that shit so tight that it's almost impossible not to fuck up the screen if you have to fiddle with the shit behind it.
Or if the usb port fucks up.

Basically, if you get an s7 of either type, never drop it and hope that, if you're planning on keeping it after the warranty runs out, that it doesn't spontaneously fuck up on you.
More so perhaps that more easily repaired phones out there.

Question for any anons with an S7 and nova launcher:

If you're using nova instead of the samsung launcher, can you still get samsung themes?

I like using nova, and I've been carting around the same set of icons around in every phone that I must use due to autism (the symbols and their meaning have long been etched into my brain) and nova has the easiest way of swapping around homescreen icons.

Thing is, I'd like to do this whilst also using an amoled friendly Samsung dark/black theme.

Will one interfere with the other?
>>

Depends if your'e fine MiUi or not. MiUi is a skin on top of android that basically looks like iOS. if your'e ok with that you don't need to do anything. if you'll hate it though, yeah you gonna need to flash different ROM's like AOSP or CM13. it's not very hard but can be quite annoying.

>>54940224
yeah i actually spent a shit ton of time research the redmi note 3 pro because willmyphonework.net said it would have 2/3 bands for 4g lte. Turns out the website is wrong because there is no "global" version and neither does flashing the global rom add all those bands. Ill wait for OP3.

http://indianexpress.com/article/technology/mobile-tabs/google-ceo-sundar-pichai-pure-android-nexus-end-2837546/

>GoogleCEOSundar Pichaihas indicated they could be adding more software features on top of pure Android to their Nexus phones in the future. He made the comments at the Code conference.

>In a conversation withRe/Code and Verge’s Walt Mossberg, Pichai said they will be investing more effort into their Nexus smartphones.

>“We will be opinionated where we need to be and where we feel that we need to push the category forward. You’ll see us actually add, more thoughtfully features on top of Android on Nexus phones. There’s a lot of software innovation to be had,” Pichai told Mossberg.

>Pichai’s comments have sparked debate that perhaps Google’s Nexus series, which is known for its pure Android OS, could move away from that, and come with their own unique software features from Google.

>Google’s CEO however said the company has no plans to manufacture its own smartphones, and added they will continue to work with OEMs to make Nexus smartphones.

Hey guise, this summer i'll spend 5 days in a festival, and i need a power bank to stay connected these 5 days.
I've thought about the 16000mAh xiaomi one, will that be enough?
>>
>>54942612
Xiaomi or Anker power banks are good, just make sure you buy the original and not fakes.
>>
>>54942612
If you participate in the festival yes

If you are going to spend it in your tent browsing /g/, then consider two.

But to be more cereal, a good battery bank will in practice transfer about 80-90% of its capacity to your phone (if the batteries are still fresh). Lets say that one will give you 14000 mah of juice, that equals roughly 4,7 full charges if you have a 3000 mah battery in your phone, or 7 charges if you have a 2000 mah battery.

If you only use your phone for casual texting and calls and some photo shots, you should make due with about 2 or 3 charges in 5 days.

I think that 16000 mah batter bank is just fine for your situation.

my phone's shitting the bed lately, and I want to get a new one asap, but I'm torn between the Note 5 and the S7. I want a big phone with a good screen, and good battery time. I don't think either phone has a removable battery though, so that's something I wish I could have.

I'm a poorfag so I have to pay through at&t's next program.

The more the better, you don't want to run out of battery and fail work because you saved 5$ and one snickers worth of bagage space.

Are there any current, on-contract Verizon phones that allow bootloader unlocking / ROM flashing? Thinking about S7 but I would really prefer something rootable.

All batteries are removable. Not even worth worrying about IMO. By the time the battery is bad, the warranty will be expired anyway, so it won't be a big deal to open the phone.

Hello, I'm here asking for help.

My moto g suddenly rebooted. Now the notification area says no notifications when i know i have them. The home button does nothing most of the time. Quick settings have vanished (two-finger swipe, two swipes, corner swipe all do nothing). The lock screen is bypassed, I'm placed right where i left.

I disabled all xposed modules, no change. Rebooted a few times. Left it powered off for a while... no change.

has anyone here gone from an iphone to an android and actually liked it? I've tried a couple times but the support for apps (particularly snapchat), imessage which a few of my friends use, the camera software which sucked on the nexuses I tried, audio quality, and lack of random crashes (even happened occasionally on nexuses) brought me back

I went from an iPhone 4 to a Nexus 4. I think the thing that I liked the most was being able to choose my default apps. almost all of the apps that I used on my iPhone were available on Google Play, except for Letterpress (I still miss it). I also liked the design of the Nexus 4 better.
The camera was atrocious, but I don't take many photos so it was okay. I don't even remember what I did about losing imessage. I don't miss it at all.
Right now there are only a few things keeping my on android instead of iOS.
>better gui (less info density, but material design looks pretty)

I tried both and each one has its pros and cons, as any normal person will tell you. This board seems to have taken a liking of Android even though like 50% also use iPhones and are content using them. Here is some brief list of my personal pros and cons of each one:

Apple pros
>older devices work almost just as when bought for years, many people still use even 4s which was made in 2011 I think, all Androids of that time are beyond obsolete
>iOS has simply better looking interface, never crashes and it is simplistic as a phone should be
>it is really fast. I don't know why/how, but it simply doesn't lag compared to even newest Androids with insane specs on which I shouldn't even see a slight lag
>phones overall have good aesthetics, but so does Sony
>you don't need third party app for literally everything because stock apps don't suck like on Android
>you will use your phone 50% less of the time because you don't have to manage anything, it will be there to pick it up to do stuff at any time but trust me you just won't, you get bored easily of iOS but in a good way
>makes you more productive
>iBooks
>superior photo/video editing apps and generally apps desu
Apple cons
>for me, iTunes is really annoying. this is actually an understatement, its horrible
>they don't have their Apple Store/Music in many countries
>expensive. this is a big deal. it usually goes something like: buying one Android per year or two years, but having one iPhone for couple of years. luckily, they won't fail you even after like 4 years or even feel outdated, so price might be worth it
>easy to get bored of it, especially when you see some newest Androids coming out with great features
>iPhone Plus costs even more for which price you could get many other Androids
>a lot of stuff simply doesn't exist on it, such as torrents, file managers, but if you ever used it you'd know how trivial that is on iOS which simply isnt about that, but could be annoying nontheless
>poor iCloud app
>>
>>54944401
I think iOS is great for it's simplicity, but my main gripe is that it doesn't do proper multitasking.

2bh I'm using an LG G5 and I really haven't noticed any lag at all. Even the 6s lags on some stuff. People who stick ROMs like CM on Android phones have more lag because the software isn't optimised, but stock ROMs are usually fine.

At the end of the day it's really about what ecosystem you're more heavily invested in.
>>
>>54940359
Pretty sure my "outdated" Nexus 5 is snappier than the comparable iPhone 5S.
>>
>>54944513
You sure? 5s is widely recommended as a flawless budget phone. In a non capitalistic world, nobody would need phones after 5s, maybe only with bigger screen.
>>
Could you guys recommend me something really good and new for up to 500 euros?
I don't know much about latest phones (as in since 2013) as it's not my hobby/work, but like everybody else I need a reliable phone.

I like Sony Xperia Z5/Premium. There are couple of others good as well, but ugly. LGs are ugly as fuck, sorry but that does matter. Nexus 6P doesn't seem bad either.
>>
>>54944526
Yeah. Google updates don't break their older phones unlike Apple.
>>
So just got my redmi note 3 pro in the mail from aliexpress, bought it from the Shenzen Top One seller. So, should I flash a new rom or something? Seller said they flashed the global rom of miui but I heard there might be mal ware on it. Are there any roms out there y'all recommend? I heard of CM and AOSP, pretty new to this whole thing. Just want the fingerprint scanner to work, OTA would be nice but not essential. Also not sure how to request a bootloader unlock code and all that
>>
>>54944401
>>54944324
Agreed iTunes is awful. I really liked my Nexus 5 when I switched from a 4S but I wasn't a fan of the 5X. Should I go for the LG G5 or the HTC 10? Both look good, I like the removable battery, better camera, on the G5 but the HTC 10 has better build, speakers and DAC
>>
Threadly reminder that if you need a phone that's bigger than 5.5 inches then you should just buy a tablet
>>
>>54944648
Why the fuck would you buy HTC 10 or LG G5 when you can buy Sony, Apple or Samsung? Just don't do it man. Go to tech store, try out some of them and then go to Samsung or Apple devices and try them. One of them are replaceable junk and one are well put devices (although more expensive) which is seen as soon as you take them in hand and feel them, see material they're made of, start some apps and try some things in settings and see how phone responds to what.

Don't fall for the marketing and what it says, not everything is how they claim it is. I wish people on this board would become aware of certain things. How can anyone seriously claim a phone like HTC 10 is better or equal quality to iPhone 6s or Samsung Galaxy S7?
>>
>>54944717
Is that really not the case? Everywhere online says that, I could see it being true
the S7E looks good especially for battery (UK so would have Exynos not 820) and display
>>
>>54944786
I could see what you're saying being true that is ****
>>
>>54944786
Edge is a meme, just get regular S7.
>>
>>54944401
>older devices still work
This is irrelevant most of the time, if you really want to save money, you should buy mid range smartphones every two yeard instead of an iphone every four to five years.
>better looking interface
This is true, material design is garbage, and the ui is fragmented, but you can't change the way an iphone's ui looks. At least on android you have klwp and nova launcher
>really fast, doesn't lag
This is true, but keep in mind that samsung=\=android. Samshit will always lag, no matter how capable the hardware becomes. Sony phones don't lag at all
>good aesthetics
The 5 and 5s looked good, but the camera bump totally ruins the 6's design. Although this is subjective
>stock apps don't suck like on android
Oh you mean apple maps, safari and itunes that doesn't even have an eq? There are good and garbage apps for both.
>you get bored of it easily and do more productive stuff
Why buy a flagship then? You're basically saying it's simple and gets the job done without being too interesting. You're throwing away money if you buy a $800 device for that.
>iBooks
I wouldn't know about that, could be good
>superior photo/video editing apps
There's pixlr on android, there isn't really a good video editor I know of though
>generally better apps
This is true, and new apps always come to iOS first, although not being able to pirate them feels like major cuckoldry.
>iTunes
I had the misfortune of using this nightmare for two years, never again
>app store/music
I don't understand what you mean.
>expensive
I don't think they're that much more expensive than android flaships, unless you choose to get cucked by Apple and buy a 128 gig variant.
>iphone plus costs more
The plus variant is the flagship
>not having a file manager and a torrent client is trivial
Wut
>poo iCloud app
You shouldn't use "le cloud" anyway.
>>
>>54944812
I don't care for the screen, I care for the battery which is the best of most flagships.

Though it'd be a lot more fragile I imagine

>>54944717
What phone do you use btw?
>>
>>54944835
>>54944401
My conclusion:
There are fewer and fewer reasons to buy an iphone, if you want something compact and simple that looks good, you have compact sony phones that are less expensive than iphones (and look better), and if you want a flagship with nice features, android smartphones are just better at this point. The iphone 6s still has a 1/3" camera sensor and an f/2.2 aperture. Apple's image processing is second to none, but it can only get you so far. Apple users also talk about iphones being convenient, yet they can't even drag and drop files.
Iphone users are holding onto the last straws of the iphone being tiers better than android phones 5 years ago. Android has closed the gap, and is leaving ios behind. And apple just refuses to do anything new and exciting, and pump out the same shit every year with very slight improvements.
Apple's unwillingness to adopt standards that are actually really useful is starting to show in their sales as well.

the only good thing about iphones is iOS and imessage

if google werent a bunch of fucking retards they would have ONE imessage equivalent for androids, and STICK to it...instead we get this fragmented bullshit, theres whatsapp, hangouts, and a bunch of other clones and nobody can agree on which one to use

if apple brought imessage to android i'd be so happy

> Do you recommend miui or something else if I wanna optimize battery life?
Well that depends on how do you like MiUi itself. I think it has pretty aggressive battery optimizations. how long do you have it? do you like the interface? got the fingerprint reader working? if your'e fine with it I don't see a reason to switch, unless you want pure android exeperience or something.
