Currently having some problems with my desktop. its an old 2008 hp prebuilt with a new power supply and video card but recently it just shut off after a minute or so of distorted image and every time I try to power it back on it beeped twice, 1 short and 1 long which supposedly indicates a memory problem so I reseated all the ram, tried new ram, and reseated the cpu all without luck. anyone have any ideas? how important is it for a hard drive to be secure? I use my PC primarily for displaying reference pictures for drawing. I hate the time it takes to load thumbnails. I built a new rig with an SSD with the hope that this would aid in eliminating the thumbnail loads. It helps but in 4K there are a lot of thumbnails to load and it's still annoying when going through thousands of images in a folder.

The order of the image files never change. Is there a way to cache the thumbnails so further reduce load times?

Why is that?

My graphics card is 60°C during idle and goes beyond 100°C at 100% load. It's really worrisome since it's going to be a lot hotter during summer. The fan is working and I also cleaned it from dust so what could be causing the high temperature? Is it possible that the thermal sensor could be damaged and report an incorrect reading? If so how do I use a thermometer or how do I check this?

Mom's old PC is beyond repair, but the HDD is nice, so I decided to add to my PC. If I put this old HDD in the SATA port, it works perfectly, but then I'd need to deactivate the CD/DVD drive, cause I only have 2 SATA ports. Then I bought an external HD case for it, but it's not working. Most of the time it tells me to format, but the windows's disk manager fails to do it, and if I try to transfer a file around 20MB, it freezes or fails to transfer and the HDD disconnects, as if someone had unplugged the cables.

in mpc-hc go to options then player. select open a new player for each media file.
open the bluray, then open the commentary, pause them.
in mpc-hc select view > on top > always. hit the 1 key to get rid of the window borders.
resize/move the commentary to your desired location. unpause both videos and hit alt+tab until the commentary window is above the bluray video.

I think only pay for one ip from my isp and I was able to get another by plugging the modem into a switch. Then from the switch I have a router and a pc. The PC and the router are given public IP's and the pc gets around 90% packet loss when it leaves the network and the router works fine.

Does anyone know how I can fix the packet loss?

I wouldn't worry on improving the upgradeability of this build since that would mean getting a Z97 mobo if you wanted to upgrade in the future to an OC-able CPU and you would also need to change the PSU for that (and you don't have budget for both). With this you can s till upgrade to a better CPU just not one OC.

first time linux user, i did pic related and tried ubuntu without installing.
i have an external hdd that will not read on a windows os but western digital utilities recognizes theres a drive plugged in. someone mentioned a while back that i can try using it in linux as it will "see" the drive differenty.
