If you are that person, post your simple/small/stupid questions here

Don't bump. This is a slow board, and will continue to be. Wait for an answer or google it.

I want to make a classifieds site crawler that would find products with a certain name under a certain price and show them on a page. I understand that I need to fish out the info from HTML, but how would I handle multiple page listings and searching for keywords in product descriptions, the ones that can only be seen in the detailed product view, not the list?

Where do I start?

I have a whitelist for threads I do enjoy, like SQT.

I filter anything that includes

Linux
OS( )X

and then personal filters for things like

etc .etc.

And that gets most of the garbage, not all of it.

What's left is non specific threads and OC

Currently having some problems with my desktop. its an old 2008 hp prebuilt with a new power supply and video card but recently it just shut off after a minute or so of distorted image and every time I try to power it back on it beeped twice, 1 short and 1 long which supposedly indicates a memory problem so I reseated all the ram, tried new ram, and reseated the cpu all without luck. anyone have any ideas? Can I run my access point in 802.11 AC with my oneplus x, which only has 802.11 N?

really? by AC I mean exclusively AC
>>

Your phone will only use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, but that doesn't mean you can't run the router in AC mode for other clients. It might hinder overall bandwidth but I see no problems
>>

no, thats not it
i plan to use a pcie card as access point, and that can run either ac or n

If you mean you're using your PC as an access point for your phone and other devices, the point still stands you can use AC mode. If not you need to be way more specific

Is there a torrent for an archive of the Library of Congress? A quick search of the site didn't turn up much.

Thought it might be nice to have that lying around.
>>
>>52512630
ok, the situation is as following
>>52512498

i was thinking about using a barebone as my homeserver, which would also at the same time act as a router

simple arch machine, will run git & mailserver & NAS, but also creating a subnet from an existing network and the PCIe card will create a Wlan

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JNA337K/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

now, I assumed, this thing cant run one AC network and one N one, like a usual router could. So I was wondering, if AC is backwards compatible or if 'll really have to use N (since my phone doesn't have AC) or will have to buy a real access point or router
>>
>>52512700
I wasn't joing, it'll still work in AC mode
>>
>>52512730
ok, I believe you, and thanks for the help

but can you explain how that is supposed to work / why it will, please?

>>
>>52512768
>802.11ac is backwards compatible with 802.11n
>802.11ac falls back to 802.11n to serve clients that don’t support 802.11ac. This works very similarly to how 802.11n falls back to serve 802.11b/g and 802.11a clients today. Dual-band APs like the MR34 will seamlessly serve 802.11ac and 802.11a/n clients in the 5 GHz band, and 802.11b/g/n in the 2.4 GHz band. Backwards compatibility is a key point since nearly all deployments will be dual-band and therefore will need to support 802.11n for years to come.

My friends mother who has worked in IT for over 20 years and worked for TYCO for over 15 years was let go and she gets turned down so many fucking times simply because she doesn't have a degree despite being more qualified than other applicants and being more capable.

So you are kind of at risk if you ever get a job and then are let go.

6 C on a GPU is nothing, don't worry about it.
unless you mean you noticed a 6 C increase since relatively recently, in which case there's probably something inside your case, or the GPU fan is dying.

Since this didn't seem to be answered, did you mean
1. playing back flash SWF videos
2. making vector-based cartoons, or
3. generally replacing flash period?

1. Gnash?? Irfanview has an ok Flash plugin.

3. Just develop in HTML5 from now on, god damn.

My graphics card is 60°C during idle and goes beyond 100°C at 100% load. It's really worrisome since it's going to be a lot hotter during summer. The fan is working and I also cleaned it from dust so what could be causing the high temperature? Is it possible that the thermal sensor could be damaged and report an incorrect reading? If so how do I use a thermometer or how do I check this?

Which is better for the longevity of my GPU:

1) It idling between 35C and 45C.
2) Having the fans on at about 850 RPM and it staying close to 35C?

Will the fans die before the GPU?

I've never actually killed a GPU before but I'm kinda curious at what temperates is it worth having the fan on to cool it and whatnot.

Mom's old PC is beyond repair, but the HDD is nice, so I decided to add to my PC. If I put this old HDD in the SATA port, it works perfectly, but then I'd need to deactivate the CD/DVD drive, cause I only have 2 SATA ports. Then I bought an external HD case for it, but it's not working. Most of the time it tells me to format, but the windows's disk manager fails to do it, and if I try to transfer a file around 20MB, it freezes or fails to transfer and the HDD disconnects, as if someone had unplugged the cables.

this is kind a shot in the dark, but does anyone have those webms/videos of the system administrator that was in his room smoking an e-cig/vapor machine with like 10 monitors around him?

The back story about him is that his wife and daughter died and all he does now is vape, do administration shit, and play on the puter. It was a sad/interesting story.

Do you care about upgrade paths or do you just want the best you can get right now? Are you willing to overclock? Do you have access to microcenter? Do you have any prefference when it comes to where the parts are for ? IE do you want them all from the same place or two places ? (Amazon and Newegg for example)

Here you go. You could buy a ssd later and another 8gb of ram.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cQsNK8

I wouldn't worry on improving the upgradeability of this build since that would mean getting a Z97 mobo if you wanted to upgrade in the future to an OC-able CPU and you would also need to change the PSU for that (and you don't have budget for both). With this you can s till upgrade to a better CPU just not one OC.

This is more gaming related than it is /g/ related, but I might as well ask. Some PC games have benchmarking modes, and the games that usually do often don't have an 'upper limit,' as in there is no FPS or resolution cap; it will only get better with time. But there are some games, even new ones, that have a cap on framerate and resolution, the latter being a strange thing to cap. Let's use Metal Gear Rising for this example, as it has a resolution cap of 1080p (without the use of a resolution hacking tool) and a framerate cap of 60FPS. With that in mind, would it be possible to use 'reverse benchmarks' where the goal would be to determine the absolute weakest hardware needed to run a game? How would one go about find out whether the game needs more CPU power than GPU power, or vice versa?
>>

Why is this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00RY4X8A4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453264928&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=dell+xps+13&dpPl=1&dpID=31dNWXKjlxL&ref=plSrch

More expensive than this:
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-XPS9350-673SLV-Generation-Microsoft-Signature/dp/B015PYYOZC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

The cheaper one is the better choice because it has the newer generation of the processor right? Or am I missing something really obvious.

I also checked what kind of models dell is selling on their own site and they only have 6th gen i3s in their new cheapest xps 13s. Is that somehow a better choice than the 6th gen i5 in the previous link?

Yeah that will be totally fine, but you may as well save a few bucks and get 1600 ram instead if you're not doing anything resource heavy tasks. I doubt you'd notice the difference in speed and ram timings

So /g/, I've rooted my generic android 4.4 tablet using kingo root, and so far it's been working really weird; my battery has been draining a lot faster since I rooted it, the root sometimes gets undone, and apk's that I place in /system/app don't work as they should. This is not the first time I've rooted something and it's really bothering me, I don't know what to do to fix these things desu. Help?
