Private trackers are for distinguished intellectuals like myself edition

Old thread: >>52494024

Not sure what private trackers are all about?
The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.

Check out the wiki and update it yourself if you want more instead of complaining like a fucking faggot. https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Private_trackers

Remember the following:
>staff occasionally read these generals and have posted here before.
>staff may pretend to be normal users asking for invites and when you invite them, they ban you for inviting strangers
>people may report emails and other personal info posted here to staff to get you banned.
>most of the invite offers here are people trolling you with false hope - begging for invites is a waste of time and you should just interview
>around 60% of posters here chat shit - don't make any claims about sites based on "something you read here once"

webRIP is when audio is recorded from a source, for example if you want to record music that's playing in the background on a website you may use Audacity to rip it.

web-DL is something that may be downloaded from iTunes for example then stripped of its DRM.

WEBRip for example is someone recording a netflix stream with a capture card then encoding it, a WEB-DL is usually a download of the episode that's provided by a digital download service

I was wondering if there was a way to define the total combined upload/download bandwidth that rtorrent is allowed to draw from?

Why is there no cabal/huge general trackers that aren't IPT? There don't seem to be any general trackers with over 10k members. baconBits is the most active and they have a 6k usercap. Where does /ptg/ get their software from?
>>
>>52505069
>being this buttblasted
Just pay the 8€ / month and be done with it. Or are you poor perhaps?
>>
>>52505104
Because anyone who isn't retarded can get into specialized trackers.
>>
>>52504983

I'm convinced that the sysops at cabal trackers are more than OK with trading and only have such strict rules in order to keep up with appearances. They know full well that they can't really stop the flow and the fact that they'd open up this process suggests that they don't care much either. They generally catch users who break most rules so as long as you learn your lesson and do things properly you'll get by just fine.
>>
>>52505104

baconBits works because of their request system so it doesn't need to be a big site.
>>
GazelleGames back never?
>>
>>52505202
I'm just asking why there isn't any big general tracker that isn't shit. I don't bother getting a Gazelle/biblio/BTN account because all of the games, ebooks, and TV shows I torrent are fairly mainstream and will get uploaded to bB anyway. Surely there's more people that are like me than there are people who happen to be connoisseurs of high quality music, movies, tv, ebooks, *and* games.
>>
>>52505236
>Surely there's more people that are like me
You mean idiots?

PTP = Mainstream movies
WCD = Maintstream music and software
Bib/MAM = Mainstream Books
BCG/GGn= Mainstream games

They're fucking giant and broad trackers, not niche.
>>
>>52505014
Hahahaha I hadn't even considered this. I could watch new torrents, find someone with a shitty upload, then join their swarm every time they upload a new torrent.
>>
>>52503934
I buy and upload cheap second-hand cd. Mostly unknown French artists so I'm sure it's not already on the tracker.
>>
>>52505280
I'd rather have 1 general tracker than to have to deal with 3 extra trackers when I'm getting literally nothing extra out of the specialized ones. I have a WCD and PTP account because I like to have consistent quality in my music and movies and don't only listen to/watch mainstream music and movies. I use my general tracker for TV shows, games, and ebooks because I don't have trouble finding what I'm looking for on it.

Are private tracker users really so elitist that they MUST be on all of the top sites in their genre even if they're not utilizing what unique things they offer over general trackers?
>>
>>52504902
Indeed I've used a torrent faker uploaded and been busted. I've confessed my cheating during the interview and I was only ban for a few months.
>>
>>52505300
I go on private tracker only if I can't find what I'm searching elsewhere.
>>

>>
>>52505280

PTP = ALL movies

You must be a stupid person.
>>
>>52505452
HDB = ALL TORRENTS
>>
to anon who grabbed that album for me, thanks! I got it
>>
>>52505280
PTP = Mainstream movies are seeded, non mainstream stuff is dead
What.cd = mainstream music is seeded, non mainstream stuff tends to be free bandcamp crap, but non mainstream stuff tends to be semi well seeded
Bib = Non mainstream books because everyone is so desperate to reach 100 uploads that they upload whatever retail shit from cake recipes to edgy grimdark autobiographies they can find which results in completely random crap that no one wants to read and the odd textbook which was ripped because it just happened to be lying on whatever page the person was browsing on the elibrary database
MAM = Whatever people who are utterly rolling in unnecessary buffer feel like uploading which means literally anything mainstream or on #bookz.
>>
>>52505503
I'm pretty sure everything you've searched for is on all of those trackers.
>>
>>52505503
>non mainstream stuff is dead

Not really. Full DVDs and BDs and high quality HD encodes are often better seeded than on specialized trackers like CG and KG.

>non mainstream stuff tends to be free bandcamp crap

That's a pretty big commitment (I'm nowhere near /lit/ enough for that). This year I've just set myself a target to read enjoyable books to try and get back into reading more.
>>
>>52507092

In theory you could. Except web-dls are themselves shit quality. However it's possible, theoretically only because apple are jews, to get real source via web-dl. But you can never do it with a rip.

Pynchon isn't actually that hard to read. It just takes a while to warm up to his style. It's easier if you start with something short like TCOL49. GR and ATD are both amazing books.

Murakami is a good author to get back into reading though. So comfy.
>tfw reading murakami in my bunk on an overnight train in asia
I couldn't find an appropriate image to convey the comfy
>>
>>52507212
Have you read and/or seen Inherent Vice? I DL'd the film the other day to watch soon. The trailer looks really intriguing and actually made me interested in reading Pynchon (reading about GR has just put me off before as I've been unsure whether I'm up to the challenge). I'll check out some of those shorter ones you mentioned, thanks!

And yeah, Murakami is pure /comfy/. Not sure what to put next on my list. I'm thinking maybe some cold-war political thing from le Carre like The Spy Who Came In From The Cold.

I haven't read Inherent Vice. I've read his other books except Vineland and Mason and Dixon though. They were all pretty good except Bleeding Edge. I'm interested in what the film will be like, but should probably read it first.

I would probably recommend starting with TCOL49 then Against the Day or another of his books before reading GR.

I tried to read le Carre when I was a kid but never really got into him. Maybe I should give it another shot. Something that's slightly pre cold-war but might interest you if you're into anarchism/communism is Homage to Catalonia.
>>
>>52507404
>except Bleeding Edge
Good to know, as I actually have Bleeding Edge in my ebook library because it looked interesting. Will give it a swerve for now then. And thanks for the reccs, I'll give Crying Lot a download then.

>Homage to Catalonia
This does actually interest me on a few levels. I've been wanting to read some more Orwell (only ever read 1984 and Animal Farm), and I've been interested in the Spanish War a bit recently with Catalonia trying to secede and whatnot. I'll check it out!

Just remembered Marquez is another big name on my list. Since reading Murakami I've been wanting to delve deeper into the whole magical realism thing, so One Hundred Years of Solitude might be next.

Nice chatting to you anon. I hope I didn't interrupt your reading too much.
Goodnight.
>>
>>52506932

>>
>>52507549
Have a good night m8.

>>52507553
MAM is based for requests. If they could organise themselves a bit better like Bib (in terms of content, not uptime...) then it'd be a top tier tracker. But it's good at what it does.
>>
>>52507538
Why not do that anon? Do you actually collect books for their aesthetic qualities etc? I'm personally more interested in content, but I can see the appeal. I'd flip that the second it came into my possession though.
>>
>>52507596
>Do you actually collect books for their aesthetic qualities etc?
Yep, and records/CDs etc. (even though digital is more practical)
£100 won't last me very long anyway, I'd keep it for the sentiment behind it or whatever
>>
>>52507666
That's cool. I do get the appeal as I have collected records in my time and appreciated having the solid product in my hands to look at and enjoy.
>>
>>52507588
Several of the MAM Uploader userclass literally check the requests every day. 2 of my 4 requests were filled in a few hours. Pretty good.

Some uploaders do upload untouched retails but some of the big uploaders believe that many retail books are poor quality and can be improved with stylesheets and tweaking (like Cipher).

Also, MAM suffers because it's so easy to join. Look at EMP for example, curry tier tracker since forever until the day it closed invites. Now it has elite status and everyone is desperate to get in.
>>
>>52507712
EMP started become more popular when they switched to gazelle. It is a gimped version of gazelle, but still it is something. Closing invites alone would do fuck all.
>>
>>52507804
It's not gimped, it's customised. Though I'd really like it to group scenes of different resolutions.

you can get what you want from using nyaa, bakabt, and xdcc, but ab is still very nice to have one place for everything (except currently airing stuff). it allows all versions of shows as opposed to bakabt, torrents are generally well seeded, and it's easy to maintain a good ratio, so i'd say go for it. if it's your first private tracker, it can also serve as a way in to others through the power user invite forum.

Ok senpai. So you used to go to r/trackers and now come here because you got banned for legitimate reasons. Grow the fuck up desu.
>>
>>52509694

I came here well before I ever went to /r/trackers and I only go there to troll the cunts. I didn't get banned for legitimate reasons, most users here are aware of all the kinds of bullshit that can happen in a ban so you can stop trying to reinforce the "le benevolent dictators" meme.

>>

>>
>>52509711
I've been disabled from 2 cabal trackers for 2 different reasons over the years. In both cases, I was re-enabled after visiting IRC. Why? Because I didn't do anything wrong.
>>
>>52509804

Tried that, didn't work despite having done nothing wrong. At a certain point I stopped asking for my accounts back and just demanded that they acknowledge the evidence I'd provided and admitted that I probably wasn't a trader and they just wanted to ban me anyway but not a single one of the sites I was on would even respond to me.

I'm happy that your experience was so perfect but it's not the same for everyone.
>>
>>52509843
I was banned from all cabal trackers. WCD was the first to let me back in. I am still banned from BTN, but I am back in every other tracker.
>>
>>52509874
I should add I was banned for trading, which I never did.
>>
>>52509874

BTN are probably the harshest of all because they're looking for any excuse to remove any users so that they can relieve strain on the system. If you get banned you better have a damn fucking good case or you simply ain't getting back in.
>>
>>52509843
>I'm happy that your experience was so perfect but it's not the same for everyone.
Fair enough, I give you that one.
It sounds like they either didn't believe the evidence you provided or the 'suspicion' of trading was enough to keep you banned in their eyes.
>>
>>52509905
>looking for any excuse to remove any users so that they can relieve strain on the system
What strain on the system?
>>
>>52509918

It was definitely the suspicion. The reason I was banned in the first place is because the case was so dubious, and I accepted the reasons for the initial ban despite protesting my innocence. Then I discovered some evidence that proved the source of my invites beyond reasonable doubt which I took to several tracker IRC networks and not a single one would even acknowledge it.

I've said to all of them in discussions since that the reason I made a point of getting back on is that I don't show respect for people who don't show respect for me. If any one of them acknowledged the evidence I would probably have stayed away, but they didn't so here we are, I'm back on most of the trackers I want to be on, just waiting for the day when BTN open their doors and I'll be back in there too.
>>
>>52509977
Good work. 312c on suicide watch.
>>
>>52509948

I don't know actually it's been about a year since I was on BTN. I'm assuming that the reason the doors are shut so firmly at the moment is because they reached what they have determined to be terminal capacity. They freed up a lot of space for more "quality" users to join by removing any users they could if they could even point to the tiniest bit of suspicion of wrongdoing. I presume they're still doing this and will at some point open the doors temporarily once enough space has been freed up.
>>
>>52510012

312cuck is probably the biggest cunt of them all. I think I made a mistake in spending most of my time protesting with him as he'd already made his mind up long before I ever even uttered a word to him. Unfortunately at that time I didn't know what a reprehensible character he was. I still think I might not have been in this situation if I'd opted to start with someone else but by that point he'd already spread the word around about me being a naughty little boy for daring to question his damning verdict and nobody would listen to my case.
>>
In my 8 years of using private trackers (and even being /impure/ on most of them) I've never been banned on any. Are you whiny schizoids absolutely retarded or what? Can you go back to reddit maybe?
>>
>>52510121

You think we wanted this to happen? Can you vouch for every person who invited you? If not then this could easily have happened to you as it did to me.
>>
>>52509977
I believe you. I'm glad you're back on most of your trackers. It looks like the merest suspicion of dubious activity is enough to get a user banned for good these days with little or no chance of appealing their case.
As more and more new cabal users are /pure/ via recruitment threads, the opportunities for sellers/traders might well be decreasing.
>>
>>52510149

It's created an interesting dynamic because while non-rulebreaking ways in are becoming more limited by the day, it's easier than ever to get into WCD and work your way up from there. I imagine it would be perfectly feasible to set up an automated system which involves little more than spending the time to take the interview, scrape freeleeches, let them seed for a while until you've got 100GB/1TB/10TB up (or whatever) then sell the account. Not sure how much that type of thing would go for but it'd be interesting to know. Also if you can be bothered to add uploading to the mix then you open up the door to invites to other trackers which may be harder to attain and therefore worth more.
>>
>>52510097
This is probably true. After 5 or more years as staff, I think he's become jaded and 'I've seen it all before so I'm never wrong' power-crazy.
Same reasons he was removed from his Mod jobs on reddit.
>>
Anyone here register a tracker user on sites like torrent invites, make some dubious posts and then report them to staff? I have been "grooming" 3 accounts already and will soon be reporting them to make room for "good" users. Thank me later
>>
>>52510201

That's exactly how I would describe him based on my experience with him. He repeatedly told me to "stop whining" despite the fact that I was completely calm during the entire ordeal.

I would say that it's very obvious he shouldn't have the responsibility that he has but what would I know. I almost feel sorry for him because he's obviously a sad and depressed little man, but he's caused so much unnecessary grief for others that I have very little sympathy for him.
>>
There are a number of reasons you could get banned unfairly.

Triggering staff on the forums or IRC - Solution: don't use the forums or IRC
Being /impure/ and subsequently caught in a massive treeban - Solution: stay /pure/
Inviting a shitfuck who sells or trades accounts - Solution: don't invite anyone
Being linked to a bad user due to you both having connected from the same place (e.g. from logging in from your phone) - Solution: only ever use your home connection
Being hacked - Solution: don't use a retarded password and don't use the same password on every site
Being cross-referenced to a bad user due to similar tastes, writing style or whatever - Solution: give as little information about you as possible and have an eclectic snatchlist.

Yes it gets pretty retarded, but that's the only way to be 100% sure to avoid unjust, autismal staff wrath. Most would be content with 99% and still use the What android app.
>>

>Solution: don't use a retarded password and don't use the same password on every site
