What does /g/ think?

Trying it for the first time, and it seems incredibly responsive and snappy all the time on low end hardware. I like it so far.

Ubuntu MATE is my preferred, it comes with Marco WM for low end comps and Compiz for better hardware. I guess I would use Lubuntu if I had a really shit computer though

Its great for old hardware but when I wanted to install it on my dads laptop the thing would break after switching from ALSA to Pulseaudio. Like literally break the system so it wouldnt boot up. Eventually installed Mint MATE on that machine and works great.

I've had problems with openbox on an ati gpu (incredibly slow), this was on a decent computer as well. But in all other cases in which I've used lubuntu, it was good.

With the openbox issue, I know it was that window manager and not a driver issue, because I tried a different wm (can't remember which one) and everything started working fine.
>>
The best non-bloat. My goto. It just works, no need for buntu minimal install, XFCE sux. Pretty easy to rice, very responsive.
>>
the only think that works on my t43 out-of-box
>>
>>52360416
It's even great on higher end computers. I avoided it because it was "lower end", but it is actually pretty great and super customizable due to the openbox it's built on. Installing custom fonts is a fucking nightmare until I got "gnome font viewer", could not even install fonts manually for some reason.
But apart from that it's great

you might as well use xfce then
>>
>>52360444
Yes mate is far away better than lxde and sometime lighter.
>>
my cock would be diamonds if that roll on thingy on openbox be vertical
>>
>>52360416
It's good, but I liked Crunchbang better back when I tried both on a shitty laptop. I guess I should check out BunsenLabs.

Lubuntu is nice if you just want to install a usable system and forget about it.

Nice wallpaper
Care to share?

Works nicely on my Thinkpad T30 and Dell Mini 9, though the wifi doesn't work out of the box with the latter.

Puppy also works well on those machines, what other lightweight distros are out there? Tried Xubuntu, but that was a little pokey.

In hindsight I would've installed cardapio menu because it works on lxpanel but cbf changing now

I tried to put lubuntu 14.04 on my brothers thinkpad I gave him and ran into nothing but issues. I ended up settling on xfce.

Actually installed it today on a MSI U-100
Posted this screenshot in another thread.

Turned a 1GB ram snail to a usable machine.

Desktop and default programs not too bad, not much tweaking needed.

As a browsing machine it works fine.

Been using it for 2 months, like it and it is my first Linux distro.
How do I make it prettier? Because it looks really ugly

What do you guys find the the advantages of lxde over xfce to be?
>>
>>52364286
lxpanel to xfce4-panel, pcmanfm to thunar, lxrandr to xfce4-display-settings and openbox to xfwm
