looking to jump over Linux and have a few questions
why not Ubuntu
best distros/DEs and why?
Antergos w/ cinnamon... Cuz its arch and The DE is pretty much The best
Debian (because it's the only distro where maintainers seems to know what they are doing)
DE: no DE, just DWM
(tilling ftw)
ubuntu is fjust ine as a first linux
If it's your first time, pick the easiest, I guess that would mean Ubuntu in its different flavors

All you had to do is to recommend a proper distro (like Xubuntu) instead of a total memeware
Linux From Scratch
DE is for subhumans just use command line interface.
Feel free to post feedback (in 10 years)

1) Welcome to /g/
2) Be sure to check out the sticky/wiki
3) There is usually a /general/ dedicated to linux be sure to check it out.
4) There is no best distro. Do some reading on your own. Check out reviews on youtube. Use a liveCD or liveUSB. Asking /g/ which distro is best will lead to nothing more than a useless distro circle-jerk/hate thread.
Good luck.

People don't like Unity. I haven't used it much, but I don't like it either. Amazon spyware on by default, though I think they've changed that now.

Nah 4chan is propertiary I send a request to a daemon to fetch the site and then I send an email to myself. Then I send an API request to 4 chan whitch doesn't work, I try to start X and it fails so I have to reboot to post from windows 10© with Edge© and Bing©.

Well meemed, my friendo
Elegance
stupid question:
I am installing Debian on a partition, near the end of the installation it asks to install GRUB but warns that if there is another OS this could cause problems. It won't let me install GRUB on the partition I made for Debian, is it safe to just install it wherever the installer is asking to by default?

yeah, it should be fine, doesn't it give a list of other OSs on the disk? if it does and they're there, you're fine.

Ubuntu is fine. Some people just don't like unity.
Mint Cinnamon is nice.
Also xUbuntu, mint mate, elementaryOS

I second Antergos. I would say use XFCE or Gnome though.
