How come nobody talks about Motorolas cameras, only the LG, Samsung, and Apple ones?

Bored so I'll ask now to maybe to give some conversation.

Never had a smartphone before. Expecting to get MXPE next month(or maybe something else if I find a deal, but I'm pretty fucking set on the MXPE unless one of the LG or Sammy flagships has a massive deal).

Only experience i have are with my mom and brother's phones and a kindle hdx. I dont fuck with other peoples stuff so i didnt root them or do anything aside from some sideloading. To get to the point: what are some of the first things I should be doing with a phone when I get it as far as essential apps, settings and such go?
>>
When do you think the Mi5 and other SD820 phones will drop?
>>
>>51482696
first quarter 2016, like has been said since before june.
>>
>>51482672
First thing you should do it's disable useless apps.
Even if Morotola's rom are almost vanilla they got some apps you'll most likely never use.
Don't recommend root for first time users, you have not experience with android so if you touch something and ruin the phone you won't be able to recover it.

Thinking of buying the Nexus 6P. It's perfect in every regard for me but I'm wondering if it will be too big. I've got decently big hands, not huge but kinda big, but I've never owned a phone this big. Is it something that you get used to? How is one handed use with it?

My current phone is a iPhone 4S that dies at about 50% battery life and the battery goes from 100 to 50 in about 45 mins of light use. I don't play games on my phone but I browse the net, use normiebook, snapchat, etc. I'm looking for good performance and battery life.

I'm a bit of a poorfag so I'm torn between the G3 or the Z3C. My main issue with the G3 is the giant size, but I'm worried the Z3C might be too old and outdated going forward.

I'm a Canadian buying either unlocked, btw.

Should I get the LG G3 or Oneplus X? They're similarly priced and similarly specced devices.

G3 has the advantage of a larger screen and removable battery, but the flaw of 1440p resolution (A flaw because it makes no noticeable difference and eats up GPU power and battery life).

OPX has the plus of a nice size, and hopefully a good customization + development community. Also the AMOLED screen is a real plus to me because I prefer it, technical nitpicks aside. However no removable battery
>>

>>
Thinking of buying one of the S6's this week, leaning towards the Edge or Active. Which should I get? It'll be my first android device.
>>
>>51484718
The general price of phones has risen sharply cause of the dollar (yet we still earn the same) and all the companies cück you into 3 months of huge rates before getting it unlocked.

Prepaids are all garbage here. And still pricey.

To put it in perspective, to have unlimited local minutes ("local" being restricted to 50km) and 1gb of data is $75+ on nearly every carrier.
>>
>>51484693
Well I kinda hate my g3
>>
>>51484784

>>
>>51484693
Oneplus X, I own it myself and been loving it so far. Only thing i dislike is the camera in low light conditions and probably the no warranty support, but i can always contact PayPal for that.
>>
>>51485473
I'm leaning towards the G3 right now desu because it's readily available and removable battery is a big boon.
However I'd love to wait and see a Oneplus X in person. I bet the screen looks great with the minimalist front and OLED
>>
>>51485488
I got a g3 about a week ago and I absolutely love it so far. Battery is decent and lasts me the whole day with moderate use and that sd support with a 128gb microsd is awesome for emulators and music
>>
Best Nexus 5 rom? I'm looking for excellent performance. Don't really care about customization.

>you can dark theme the settings menu and change your icons XD

literally who cares
>>
>>51485488
Indeed the battery is a plus, but OPX battery is decent enough. I dislike the bloated G3 and much prefer the smoothness of the OPX as well as the design, plus I flash a lot so the support on XDA is a plus for me.
>>
i'm thinking of getting the xiaomi redmi 2, how big is the difference between the 1GB and 2GB ram version? i don't care much about games and i will probably install a custom rom
>>
>>51484053
I've got my Z5 Premium a few days ago. Came from a Nexus 5, performance is a lot snappier, no complaints. Other than minimal UI stutter when quickly scrolling through huge lists in apps (which is sort of normal, I guess) everything is smooth.
Tried 4K recording and PS4 Remote Play and haven't had any issues with overheating so far.
Can't comment on SoT much, but I got around 6 hours off my first charge, although that was at 50%, charging to 70% and then going to 15%.
Other than the price, I'm pretty satisfied.
>>
>>51486726
I'm looking at the SONY Xperia Z5 Premium Dual Sim 32GB and that Asus Zenfone 2 64G

Any opinion either way?
>>
>>51486825
I can only speak for the Z5P, haven't owned or used a Zenfone 2.
In Europe the Z5P doesn't come with Dual Sim functionality and other than that those two phones are in vastly different price brackets, if you're willing to spend 800€ on a Z5P, you might as well look at other phones to compare it to and not the Zenfone 2.
>>
>>51484469
I have a LG G4 and I can tell you it's not that bad, at all.
Get a launcher and you won't notice the difference.
Yeah, the settings menu (actually...just its color) won't be the same, but so what? Is that so important? After the initial setup, I never go there.

Fun fact: everyone complains about the tab menu in settings, but there's an option to switch to "list view".

Not only I do not regret buying it: I actually love it.

Does anyone else use the Ghostery browser for Android? I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and I'm loving it. I'm sure any browser with an adblocker would've been better than just using the stock Chrome app like I was but I have no complaints about it so far.
>>
Had my S6 for over a week now, I'm enjoying the phone a lot but goddamn the battery time. Browsing on 4G a lot will drain the power from 100 to 34-40 in just 3 hours plus minus. I have an emergency charger and the phone charges really fast so it isn't really that much of an issue. But you would think battery life would be more focused on.>>51488690

UKfag here, what's the best phone I can get for £300?

Incipio offGRID case if you need more battery life.

>>
>>51488862
I'm really glad I bought a 3rd gen Moto G instead of another flagship phone. The screen is only 720p and the CPU is less powerful than the flagship phones but I don't really notice any difference in user experience coming from a Nexus 5 that has both a higher resolution screen and more powerful CPU. What I DO notice is that I can routinely go 2 days between charges even with moderate use and screen-on time and over 3 days between charging with very minimal use. I had completely forgotten what it was like to have a cell phone's battery last more than 24 hours and it's just great.
>>
>>51488915
Hm thanks. I'll look into it.
>>
Are you guys paying for your phone via a carrier plan or did you just buy it full price? I'm paying 75.4$ a month for my galaxy S6 32GB. With it I get 3 gigs 4G, Infinite SMS's, MMS's, and as much phonecalls as I so desire. Of course being an anon I never really call or text anyway so it's useless in that sense. I'm bound to this plan for 11 months more so it's not that bad really imo.
>>
>>51489032
I've been using straight talk for right at 2 years now and, being a budget carrier, you must buy your phones outright using their service. I bought a Nexus 5 and just recently bought a 3rd gen Moto /g/ when my Nexus 5 got broken. My phones are unlocked and my plan is month-to-month so I'm not bound by any sort of contract.
>>
>>51489076
Yeah I thought about doing that as well. Considering paying my phone down in a couple of months though, after that I'll only be bound to the plan itself. But for now I'm sticking with it, I don't have bad credit score so that wasn't an issue fortunately.
>>
>>51489122
Yeah, I was just coming off my parent's family plan and going with a budget carrier for a single line was MUCH cheaper per-month than going with Verizon or ATT at the time. I'm not sure how the big carrier's plans have changed since then though.
>>
>>51489169
Yeah, but I needed a new phone and a carrier plan so I figured I'd might as well go all in. I can afford the price so why not. Only thing I regret is the awful battery life.
>>
>>51489193
If I remember correctly, at the time that I switched to straight talk, Verizon's plan prices were about $20/mo higher. When you bought a phone through them they only knocked ~$200 off the total phone price and I would've had to sign a 2 year contract. So in under 1 year I would've paid back the $200 phone subsidy and then over the course of the entire 2-year plan I would've ended up paying an extra $280 over what I ended up paying by going with straight talk and just buying a phone outright.

Like I said, I think the major carriers have reacted to the rise in popularity of budget carriers and have changed their plan structure up dramatically since 2 years ago.
>>
Looking for a new phone - how is the Nexus 5X?
>>
>>51489347
What phone are you coming from? Some people say the 5x isn't a huge upgrade from last year's flagships.
>>
Alright, riddle me this, Batman. My Asus Zenfone 2 just totally fucking broke its own SIM1 slot (and the SIM2 slot was fucked before I got it) so I think I need a new phone. It has to be unlocked and under 300 bucks. I'd prefer a smartphone, too. I like larger screens, but not too large since I run with my phone in my pocket. Preferably durable and pretty fast, with a passable battery life. Discrete SD cards would be nice. Thanks, friends.

My father needs a new phone, because S3 is getting kinda old and the battery is shitting itself pretty hard, also no 4g and other usefull gimmicks
Is G4 a best choice ? If I don't recommend him a good phone he will probably buy some SamShit S, possibly even the horrific 6 edge
G4 has removable battery, which is essential if you keep your phone for more than 2 years, a very nice screen, expandable storage, 3gigs of RAM, fairly good camera, though sadly no slow motion, sadly no usb 3 either but afaik the battery is pretty good
Any other similiar alternatives? He doesn't really want a phablet so G4 is probably the biggest he would get, no Note or V10
Doesn't want an iPhone either, so that's good

I just got a 6p, coming from a galaxy s4. It's definitely bigger than the s4 but I'm getting used to it quickly. I have big hands. It's almost exactly the same size as a iPhone 6s+, I went to an apple store to get a feel for the size.

What color did you get? How is it build wise?

>>
>>51490303
I replaced the battery. I'm getting 2.5 hours sot which is fine for my usage.
>speakers and mic
I never had any issues. Call quality is average.
>camera
Agreed, it isn't good at all but it suffices for my light use. Granted, I do think that if I had a better camera, I'd be likely to take photos more often.
>>
>>51490328
Oh forgot one thing, but I've heard it's not exclusively N5
If you turn on the flashlight for like a minute or two, it crashes, you can't turn it on again and camera app stops working, only works after restarting

As far as the 3rd gen Moto G goes...

It's pretty cheap, does everything that most people need a smartphone to do, has great battery life, is *waterproof*, can take a removable micro SD card, and comes with nearly stock Android with very minimal amounts of Motorola bloatware.
>>
>>51490393
>very minimal amounts of Motorola bloatware.

As in only a few changes to stock apps like the camera
>>
>>51490062
I got the aluminum 64gb.

Build quality is pretty good, I would say top tier among android phones. Although I had to rma it because the plastic part on the back was very slightly bulging in one spot. They let me use the device while a new shipped, no issues with the new one, rma process was very simple. My gs4 was totally usable still but I was getting bored with it. Overall pretty happy with the upgrade.

720p display
>>
>>51490535
It's not as bad as you'd think. Coming from a Nexus 5 with a 1080p display I was prepared to be disappointed but I don't really notice the difference to be honest. Lower res screen also makes it much more battery efficient.
>>
Why the fuck is there just no perfect smartphone

I've got a 2560x1440 computer monitor if I want to look at a really pretty screen. 720p on a phone is more than adequate for most people unless you hold your phone 5" from your face or something.
>>
>>51490781
>720p on a phone is more than adequate for most people unless
That's the thing though, its all subjective.

I am currently using a 1440p 5.7" phone.

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell I would willingly switch to a 720p 5" screen.
>>
>>51490781
the difference is highly noticeable, I'd agree for up to 4,5", but on 5" and, sadly more popular now, 5.5" it's really not enough

>>
>>51489648

Are there any other options for the price?

I was thinking about the Z3C as well.

G4, Moto X etc. I'm not interested in due to being 5.5"
>>
>switching from Xperia SP to OPX
So was my old phone that good or is the OPX really that awful with headphone audio?
>>
>>51490781
Fuck no it is noticeable, I had a moto g 2015 and switching to AMOLED 1080p the difference is huge.
>>
>>51481884
Yeah
>>
>>51490832
True, it's subjective. I don't use my phone for much besides browsing the internet, checking email, facebook, lurking 4chan, and watching the occasional video on youtube (normally when I'm working on some project and want to watch it being done in a video before I attempt it). I never find myself wishing my phone had a higher resolution even after using a phone with a 1080p screen for over a year immediately before I got this one. Then again, I was without a phone for 2 weeks after my Nexus 5 got broken while I was waiting for my Moto G to get shipped to me so I never compared them side by side or anything.

>>51490834
For me it's only really noticeable when I hold my phone uncomfortably close to my face. I normally hold my phone 12"-14" from my face when I use it and the difference in pixel density between the 1080p Nexus 5 and 720p Moto G isn't what I'd call "highly noticeable". Everyone's different though, what doesn't bother me at all seems to be a deal-breaker for you.
>>
Lg G3 vs zenfone 2 vs Oneplus X

Which one do i get and why?
>>
>>51491120
My 1440p phone can do VR (Note5 with GearVR).

720p and even 1080p just isn't high enough resolution for this use (and frankly 1440p is still a bit lacking)
>>
>>51491120
I should also note that I view my phone as more of a "backup device" for using only when I cannot use my laptop or desktop or for reading stuff in bed before I go to sleep so I suppose I don't expect as much out of it as people who use their phone as their main portal to the internet.

>>51491147
I've never done anything with VR before. It goes without saying that a mid-range "budget phone" probably won't meet the hardware requirements of more advanced, hardware intensive things like VR. That's getting into "power user" territory in my opinion and is really what flagship phones are for.

well with the note5 anyway, updates are pretty solid so far. ~3 months after launch and I have gotten 3 OTA updates from AT&T.

If it has defects as soon as you get it rma it asap. They will comply.

If you have an unresponsive screen later on the One, it is likely your fault for not treating your expensive electronics right. The One has old technology in the screen where even the smallest of cracks to the front of the phone will make the touchscreen basically unusable. So don't get it if you tend to damage your electronics.

I don't know how much that is or how much you talk/text, but prepaid tracfone is basically $85 a year for me. The 400 min card comes with one year service, and Bring Your Own Phone phones have triple minutes, so that 400 min card becomes 1200 min, 1200 text, and 1200 mb data.

Well it's been 3.5 years since it came out. Most cell phone manufacturers assume a 2 year upgrade period. It should be no surprise that a year and a half after its expected use time, it is getting a bit slow.

The fact it still functions is a testament to at least somewhat decent engineering.

Hi gurus.
Was thinking of buying a refub smartphone from Samsung (Galaxy s5). What are your guys' experiences with refub phones like? And is it worthwhile to get one? It's around $250.

And should I wait till Black Friday to get a new phone? Doesn't have to be a flagship. Are there going to be any deals and sales for all types of phones?
>>
>>51497785
If it's a factory refurb it's essentially been restored to its original state, it was just previously owned and might have minor cosmetic blemishes. But functionally it should be 100%.

S5 is still a solid phone, and it appears it will be getting the official 6.0 update from samsung at some point in 2016.

In the next month or 2, the best phone specs wise is still going to be the Note5.

Xiaomi is chinese made and so build quality is subpar and warranty is questionable. Support on US carriers is also questionable.

Note5 is the most powerful phone you can currently get, it has a nice 1440p display that works with GearVR so you can jerk off to VR porn.

Pretty much any phone will work for those things, I recommend Nexus phones since they are pure Android and can be rooted and riced to your heart's content. Many non-Nexus phones (especially carrier models) are unrootable and unflashable so customization is limited.

>>51497785
only buy if you are certain you can unlock the bootloader, root, and flash custom ROMs. Otherwise you're stuck with touchwiz cancer.

>>51498446

>>51499298
get rid of that battery now before it melts or explodes...

I have powered off the phone and put it aside.

My new phone gets here by 10am tomorrow

Have you used an S6 or Note5 for more than a few hours?

Modern touchwizz is fine

put it outside in a metal bucket, if it actually pops open then it'll spew toxic fumes and the lithium might actually catch on fire when it comes in contact with the air

stupid phone question.

I live in the states and have AT&T. I'm thinking of buying the Moto G3 16GB version and just taking the SIM card out of my old phone (Galaxy S3) and putting it into the Moto G3.

Will this work?
>>
>>51499259
fuck, really? I really only use 2-3gb a month, would it make more sense to go with a cheaper plan? T-mo does 6gb/mo with rollover for $65 now. I'm worried about their coverage, though I live in NYC I use a lot more data when traveling.
>>
>>51499516
That'll work, just as long as it's not sitting on something really flammable.
>>
>>51499614
You can get on Straight Talk for $45/mo with 5gb of high speed data (4G lte) and unlimited 2G data afterwards. You can use AT&T's network with them and have great coverage.
>>
>>51499668
On this note AT&T in NYC is fine.
>>
>>51484784
i would say get the active because that has everything the s6 has plus a bigger battery but its only on one US carrier
the edge is a gimmick but its sexy as fuck

I have a 6p, the build quality is great. Like all bendy phones, it's only an issue if you're a complete idiot, don't give a shit about your device, or have significantly compromised the structure of the device before hand (I think cracking the screen could do this)
>>
>>51492462
OPX LTE support is basically why. I pay for 4G LTE, so I damn well better get it.

Also, Motorola is generous with warranty support. I've seen people get full on replacements for phones they broke themselves. OP makes great phones but their customer service is adequate at best.

ALSO, OPX battery life doesn't even touch Moto G.

You replaced your battery and get 2.5? I get 3.5 on my 1.5 year old refurb. First N5 from launch was water damaged and Google replaced it for free.
I use a 6P now and get 5 hours easily.

Upgrading my shit locked phone to another shit locked phone.

I need the ability to use an EQ for music, a decent camera and the ability to send 4 word texts to my family. Battery life and stock-aesthetic are also a little important to me.

My old HTC one died from water so I've been using an iShit for a while, I want to be able to do things again though, so I need an android.

Which would you recommend for a shitter like myself? I don't really modify anything except for the lock screen.

I just bought a G3 today after being an iShitter for 2 years (and a blackberry pleb before that)

Holy FUCK does it feel great to have a phone that's actually fast and responsive. The screen is crazy too. Android is taking a bit to get used to, but so far I'm loving it.

Only complaint is I don't know how to turn off ad-tracking or change individual app's settings.
That and I miss the iOS emojis t b h
>>
>>51501215
root and change the emojis using emoji switcher or whatever it's called
>>
So far it looks like Motorola won't be putting any discounts on the Pure for Black Friday or Cyber Monday, which isn't to surprising since it didn't come out very long ago. Still damn.
>>
>>51501434
Can't root G3 not new anyway.
>>
>>51501471
AFAIK all models of the G3 can be rooted.

Pretty sure you can unlock the bootloader too. It'll void your warranty, but it's doable for many variants of the G3. CM13 exprerimental builds for the G3 are already circulating.

>>51490507
I wanted to hold off until next year but I'm really thinking it's time to replace my OPO. I'm having issues with the camera and the battery and I really just don't want to be using it that much longer. I'm not sure what I can replace it with that would be a worthwhile upgrade, though.
>>
>>51501585

Unless something has changed, like root relying on an exploit that was patched by LG in later versions of the software, there's plenty of guides on how to root G3s.

I stll have yet to find a phone OS as nice as webOS.

Ordered that unlocked American version of the LG fx0 to give firefox a shot. Hoping it works on Softbank.

i bought the new lg g4 but i can't root this piece of shit

i thought lg g4 supported this !? did they just backpedal

It varies. If I just went hard on it for 4 hours straight, I'd get 4 hours sot. But with standard usage which includes standby, I get 2.5-3.0 sot.

I got a Zenfone 2 a little over a month ago. There's a lot to like about it, but unfortunately the software is unusable dogshit so I'm returning it and just bought a Moto G 3rd Gen.

Has anyone here gotten the 6.0 update yet? 5.0 killed my Moto G 1st Gen, but since this was built for 5.0 and 6.0 is basically a revised 5.0 I'm assuming there won't be any issues.

I've been on the edge of getting a new phone for a while now as my nexus 4 is getting pretty beaten up. A friend just gave me a one plus x invite but after checking some reviews I'm not sure if it's worth trying to get one plus 2 instead. Some people are saying the x can chug a little at times when you get stressful and sat the 2 is just a better phone. Is it with just putting the extra little in for a 2?

Just got a "defective" phone off eBay for cheap. The external speaker was apparently blown. So I get this thing thinking I can just replace it, no big deal. But when I flash CM on it, the speaker suddenly starts working again. Gogo shitty Samsung firmware that randomly causes the speaker to stop working, I guess.

I want a Smartphone thats decent for watching videos in VR (Google Cardboard). My budget is about 240€. I am willing to buy refurbished.
>>
>>51486915
Yeah the g4 is fucking great, the only problem I have with the phone is that you need to root it for it to be able to film 60fps 1080p videos, although it's pretty easy if you know what you are doing.
Also the camera is so fucking great.
>>
>>51501818
Anon try this, by far the safest and easiest way to root the g4.
