Snapchat CEO is pro Google, they even deleted their tweet of working on a WP app this week

Phones have a far higher failure rate than 1%, duderino.

It is when they literally came out with an "extra" warranty to cover what is typically covered under a one year warranty.

They try to blame everything on the user, everything is physical damage according to them.

That's what you get when you buy chinkshit.

Thinking of getting a 3rd gen moto /g/ for my first smartphone and loading cyanogenmod onto it.

I am not buying it for any specific reason - mainly the utility of being able to use the internet anywhere, read my PDFs on the train, and maybe use some language learning app or whatever.

The biggest factors for me are battery life, price, and compatibility with CM. I don't really want to spend over $300. Can anyone confirm/deny that this is a reasonable choice?

Does anyone else play Real Racing 3? Does your phone get a steady 60 FPS?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and the frame rate is all over the place. I almost never get a full 60 except maybe when there are no cars around and very little scenery.

I thought this phone was going to be amazing. I was expecting performance to play Real Racing 3 at full and then some. The frame rate is even worse in Asphalt 8.
>>
>>51465429
its not the SoC its the app developer, the Exynos 7420 is the most powerful android SoC on the market, if the app doesn't work on it, it's not because of lack of power, or else literally no phone could run the app. It means the developer has shitty code.
>>
>>51465472

I heard there was going to be an OS update to Samsung/Android phones early next year. Could that fix it? I can't get a steady 60fps in anything, even YouTube.
>>
>>51465522
>even YouTube
factory reset cause that shouldnt be happening.

And the update coming Dec/Jan/Feb. will help a bit, but it shouldnt be having these problems even in 5.1.1

I have a note5 and youtube is fine at 60fps.
>>
>>51465535

I've done two resets and the frame rate still lags. I tried to return it to AT&T but they refused to acknowledge it as a problem.

On my PC and laptop, 60fps videos are perfectly smooth, but they jump all over the place on my S6. I would really like to know from someone else who has an S6 how well youtube and games like RR3 perform.

On an added note, I played RR3 on a Galaxy Core Prime, and it ran at a steady 60fps (although at a lower graphics setting).

Elaborate in depth about the battery life, screen and sound quality

I'm deciding between this and the galaxy alpha, for me that one feels better because no scratchy glass, removeable battery aka instant charge and AMOLED. Of course the Z3 has much better battery but since the Alpha has removeable ones it's probably a better choice since I won't be stuck to the wall charger

What do you guys think about Whileyfox Storm? It's Britbongs version of 1+1, but with somewhat better camera(s), dual SIM/MicroSD support, smaller battery, 32GB ROM and SD605. It costs 200 pounds, plus 10pounds for 3year warranty or 1 year "free" screen replacements.

My biggest concern is that it's from a new company and as far as the development goes one guy managed to root it.

Excellent. I get 5-7 hours SOT depending what I'm doing. 2 days is absolutely possible. I have been off the plug since 10am, its 1am next day now and in at 50% battery life, with 2:31 of SOT.
10/10

>screen
Meh. I love amoled, and an bias towards it. I went from S2 to S4 to Moto X 2013 to this so I still prefer amoled. BUT, there is a white balance setting that helps get the colors how you like them within the settings. It's a good screen. 720p is not a downside.
7/10

>sound quality
Speakers are great and get loud, though they aren't the most detailed ones though i think that's because of the waterproofing. Being able to shower with it is cool, though I don't do it often. They are good, front facing speakers. Not boomsound, but good.
Headphones, its OK. It seems to have a weak amp, as the headphones don't get as loud as they are in every other device I own.
8/10 speakers
6/10 headphones

Hope that helps.

I have it, but I switched to it straight from an old-ass Nokia C6, so I'm not sure how qualified I am to judge.

I use it as a phone and internet machine, and it does that without problems. The screen is nice, the build quality is solid. The choice of apps is very poor, though.

Hey, I'd recommend getting a phone unlocked outright, if only for the sole purpose of using Vaya. Vaya (look em up) has the cheapest phone plans I've seen, in fact I'm on the $18 per month one right now, with 1.5gb mobile data and $650 talk and text. Trust me, you won't get a better deal anywhere else.
In terms of phones, a price range would be nice, but in terms of budget oriented devices, you can't go wrong with the OnePlus X, which you can get off DWI (look em up too), which I'd recommend due to the retarded invite system OnePlus uses. If you're not comfortable with a Chinese "grey market" device, I'd wait for the Moto G3 to drop here in Australia.
Hope this helps

Who here has bought a used phone before? I really want the moto x pure edition, but I can't spend more than $300 and I think I'll have to wait a year for the price to drop to that.

The thing has the same chip as the moto g, a 720p screen and 2gb ram(iirc)

It can easily take Android if enough people who know what they're doing buy it. It should definitely be up there. The thing is like $60
>>
Anyone with OnePlus X? Hows the battery?
>>
>>51472241
I'm personally not a fan, I've been buying smartphones since the old Windows Mobile days. Shit happens with every company. I've owned phones from almost every company, every major OS, and it's worth it to have that original warranty.

Personally, if I couldn't afford something, I'd rather buy something new that's not as powerful.

Check out the Moto /g/ 3rd gen, 2gb RAM version.

I seriously considered this but I'm on Verizon, and the moto g doesn't work properly on CDMA networks. As a matter of fact, none of the budget phones work properly on Verizon networks, which is why I'm stuck waiting for a price drop.

>>

Eh, I wouldn't say most.

You have to keep in mind that the Nexus devices are bought by anal enthusiasts. They're going to complain more. I've seen this time and time again with enthusiasts devices.

You have to take that with a grain of salt.

You won't see it drop in price until the next Nexus devices come out, most likely.

The Pure might go on sale next weekend. If it drops 100 bucks, I might pull the trigger on the Pure as well.
>>
Should I get the LG G3 or Oneplus X? They're similarly priced and similarly specced devices.

G3 has the advantage of a larger screen and removable battery, but the flaw of 1440p resolution (A flaw because it makes no noticeable difference and eats up GPU power and battery life).

OPX has the plus of AMOLED screen, nice size, and hopefully a good customization + development community. However no removable battery, which I do like

root it and lower the screen resolution.

C# is a lot eaiser to develop in than java. However that still means another language to write your app in (if you don't go mono or c++ route). Moto /g/ 3rd gen with 2GB ram is a truly good phone.

I'd trust Motorola's support over Oneplus, just because they're a far larger company. Even despite the Lenovo shit.
>>
>>51472858
>oneplus x looks incredibly fragile
literally meaningless. How a phone looks has no bearing on how fragile or prone to failure it is. Unless you mean prone to scratches / scuffs, but then that's why it comes with a case
>>
>>51472883
>I'd trust Motorola's support over Oneplus

yes that's what I mean.

I don't think the unlocked versions would have anything that would show you broke warranty if you changed the bootloader. Might want to look that up.

>>
>>51475453
That's your own autistic problem buddy.

Anyone who "needs" 70GB of any sort of media on their phone 24/7 is a fucking idiot.

I have playlists. I keep 5-10GB of music on my phone and swap out to another Playlist when I get tired of that one.

If you examine your listening statistics on that 70GB of music I bet $20, 1/3rd has been played less than 3 times.
>>
>>51475508

Why so hostile man? Because I want a certain feature?
>>
>>51475086
So this is my opinion, and I'll state at first that I'm considering buying this phone because I want a phone that has no issues with rooting/changing shit. I don't like to spend money on electronics I can't tinker with.

I think that yes, there are issues.

Yes, there are manufacturing issues. We've seen this in many phones over the years. Nearly every metal unibody phone has issues like bending. Nearly every Nexus release seems to have some issues as well.

You have to consider that part of this is because this phone is targeted at enthusiasts. They will be a bit more anal about problems, and also more likely to post about it online.

>>51475138
Still looking, had to go unload the dishwasher.
>>
>>51475526
No because mSD should have died 5 years ago when it first started being shitty garbage.

There are plenty of storage options besides mSD cards.

You're being forced to wait on an invite from a shitty chink phone company with no warranty for a phone with specs from 2013. And the only reason you want it is the mSD card (and the fact it's invite only probably tickles you)

Just seems pretty dumb
>>
>>51475508
I don't think you should be so insulting, but I don't see why someone needs 70GB of music either on their device at all times.

However, there is something to be said for having your entire collection on one device. I have a Zune 80GB that still works and it can just barely fit everything I have. It's great for roadtrips or when I was in college, to parties.

Ok this depends on where you are

Yes, to root or install other roms/recoveries you have to unlock your bootloader, which requires an unlock code from Motorola. This void your warranty the moment you get the code.

However, if you are in Europe, under EU law, they have to honor your warranty. You'd just want to purchase from a 3rd party retailer that can handle the return.
>>
Thoughts about LG G3? I heard it's not lagging after some updates lately.

EU.

Just bought one for 120 USD.
Build quality is better than expected, runs smooth out of the box, no problems with LTE (Europe).
~44000 points in Antutu.
With WiFi 24/7, 1/3 screen brightness, 1 hour per day of Hearthstone, 5 mins of calling and about 30 SMS (don't count Messenger) the battery lasts 2,5 day.
Best smartphone I've own so far.

I read this phone is pretty good. How's the Alcatel support?
>>
>>51477597
Almost no users, so very few apps. They also are somewhat behind on specs consistently.

They also aren't on Verizon basically at all, and you can forget any new Windows devices on Verizon/Sprint in the near future. At least, not until Verizon/Sprint move to volte.
>>

is it necessary to flash a custom ROM onto G3? I would wait for official 6.0 update desu senpai

That's because there isn't a way, and likely won't be a way.

Samsung is making their damn surest that their shit is uncrackable now on Verizon for "enterprise class" use.

Is it possible to receive a video stream from a television somehow by plugging a mini-USB to HDMI cable?

Just using the Android device as a second display, plugged into the TV?

Has this been done before?
>>
>>51478044
For what fucking purpose
>>
>>51477656
Yes, if you want better battery and performance than stock, and to also do away with the awful sharpening filter on the stock ROM.

If you got a G3 and didn't flash Fulmics, you're an idiot. It's literally stock, but with no bloat, better battery and better performance.

>>51476651
>actually kek'd
>>
>>51478133
Lots of uses. For one, you could then record SCR Pro.
>>
>>51478215
I don't see how you would even output from a TV to HDMI if you expect it to already be displaying something from another source.

And then, you want to butcher framerates and even sound by using your Android as a makeshift DVR.

Not to mention, the MLH support that only a few phones have is output only, not import.

The time spent trying to rip media in this way is better spent in the myriad ways that already exist.

Tl;dr- that's stupid and no

So I am temporarily putting my PC dreams on hold to get a phone and because I will need money for other things. Thinking I'll go with a MotoXPureEdition after some research(ZenFone 2 Laser was nice but I need TMobile Band 12 Support).

The only thing I have to decide now is whether I should buy through MotoMaker or Amazon. I hear motorola has terrible support while Amazon is stellar and I won't have to wait for the phone to be built on Amazon. Is there any reason not to get it through Amazon?

Other questions to anyone with it:

How is it one-handing it? Also what would you say your hand size is.

Okay, just that one for now.

Reminder that Samsung phones have always been superior in every single generation, and this is no exception. The S6 is literally the fastest android phone yet, only to be superseded by the S6edge+ and Note 5. It has tons of features too, like private mode, increased touchscreen sensitivity, real-time kernel protection so niggers can't flash your phone when it's stolen, multi-windows, the most accurate and beautiful screen you can get, and a superb camera which is the best after the Z5 (by an insignificant margin). It also has the fastest i/o and the fastest charging speeds (behind the edge+, which incidentally also has a bigger battery). This is hands down a clear-cut case of technological superiority only available to Samsung flagship users. The Note 5 is by far the best, fastest, most complete smartphone to date in the history of cellphones and mankind.

Of course you wont be able to touch all the 4 corners with you finger without having to move the others.
Tested the X Play a couple days and one thing I have to say about Motorola it's that I enjoy the holding experience and the curve on the back. You are most likely not to drop it, even if the Pure it's one or two inches bigger.

AMOLED is not a plus when most apps and web pages are white/bright, it's a minus. So a 1440 LCD will use less battery in the real world than a 1080 AMOLED.

add to that swappable batteries / a Zerolemon battery with the LG vs non removable in the OnePlus.

add to that LG's mature and stable software vs the still raw and buggy OnePlus OS (i don't want to be overly critical, but if you go to the OnePlus forums and look at people's OnePlus 2 battery life, it's way lower than it should be. it's not because of the hardware (big battery, 1080 LCD display), but because OxygenOS is still buggy as fuck and draining battery by itself.)

go for the LG, f@m

This is incorrect. Newer AMOLED panels like those found on the S6/Note 5 are more power-efficient than older generations while also being more accurate and bright.

Oh there's a difference between QHD and qHD, I was not aware of this. But there's a dealbreaker then.
Anything less than 1280x768 is a no go since I can't stand gianthuge fonts and UI elements, and I don't think it's possible to achieve a small enough font size while still being readable at a smaller resolution than that.
Pic related, I have my Nexus 4 set to 180 DPI.

>>
>>51472277
OPX user, battery is pretty par. 3-ish hours with heavy gaming. A 7am-3pm gaming day had me at 20%, but the battery saver managed to let me listen to some music on my commute back home.

I don't get the hate, other than the slightly shakey software in terms of issues and lack of features, it's smooth as butter.
>>

>>
>>51480308
ah I see. Wonder why they aren't putting out the Style here

any opinions on the cameras between the G3 and the X Play?
>>
>>51479958
Seriously stop shit talking about amoled display when you clearly know nothing about it. The burn in in recent amoled displays is very rare, the quality of it completely destroys LG G3 display. I personally own the OPX, it's been absolutely amazing so far. My dad owns the G3, OPX's display is beyond comparison, much better. Performance is faster as well. Lg wins camera wise, that's it.
>>
>>51480308
Honestly, Windows is kind of tempting at this point.
But there's the whole issue of fuckhuge UI elements on all touch devices by default, do you know if you can change the DPI scaling on Windows phones ?
I can't seem to find any concrete information about this.
>>
>>51480048
Nope, THIS is incorrect. While AMOLED technology is becoming more efficient every year, when it comes to displaying whites and similar bright shades (most web pages and apps), the best AMOLED panel is still significantly less power efficient compared to LCD.
They are also less accurate, not more.
>>
>>51480302
The hate is simple, it comes from ignorant people parroting the "chink phone" meme.

I own the OPX and I'm amazed so far, this thing will last 2 years easily. It completely blows my sister's Moto G 2015.
>>
>>51480384

It's not too misguided, that meme.
I owned a real chink phone, a ZOPO C2. Was decent at the time, but the MEDIATEK is fucking shit. Its bloated and slow even after a factory reset. Hardware degradation? IDK.

The OPX truly is wonderful, save for me being forced to use MTP when transferring files. And that the speaker is kinda shitty.

Love the AMOLED and the design, the chipset isn't half bad either, even though I don't strive for a whole lot of performance.

I just got one. It's 720p, screen looks decent, build is decent. good battery life. that article clearly states, dozens of times, that for whites/brights, LCDs are more efficient than even the latest and greatest AMOLED panels.

also, when comparing power use for mixed content
1) 'mixed' content is very unclear. people regard watching videos as mixed content, but no one will watch videos and do nothing else. realistically, mixed use is at least partially web browsing and peoples most used apps, all of which is mostly white/bright.
2) it compares the Note 5 to a fucking iPhone. nigga please. everyone knows iPhones have awful battery life. they shpuld have compared it to an LG or a Motorola or Sony LCD display. oh wait, but then that would show that even with 'mixed' content, LCDs still blow the latest AMOLED technology the fuck out.
