Hi /g/, which do you have? 8GB or 16GB RAM?
Which do you prefer?
Okay. I'm in the market for a laptop/ultrabook.
First: Lenovo: Aside from the superfish debacle, was alooking at them for a nice book. A check of the specs shows that the latest generation of ultra books, are frozen at 8GIG. Previous gen were upgrade capable to 16g. WTF?
Second: the de3ll xps 13 ultrabook, is stuck at 8 gig.
Clearly these companies are trying to borrow from apple in that a planned obsolescence in their flowcharts.
What is a good ultrabook to get that runs linux?
good goy! if you aren't a consumer the terrorists win, oy vey.
>Kill you're are self.
Shutdown the computer, and go read a book.
If 16 Gig available upgrade, will get 8gig to start. $2K seems reasonable for a good machine. Not looking for Games, more for virtual machines, compiling programs. Also fun things like working on Project Euler (c/c++), wifi hacking just for the LOLs, and the occasional snooping at the starbucks.
Again with the malformed response. Run back to your mother and ask her advise on what to say next.
>This fucking nigger right here can't read
Oy you shitpostin again kiddo.
16GB, guess that was kinda overkill though. Not that it matters much, RAM is cheap anyway.
Never change /g/
>tfw you will never be rich enough to build a workstation level PC with 1TB of RAM so you can post Speccy screenshots and shit up threads like these and get many replies and forget the fact that your life will always be void of any meaning
I only have 4GB, but I barely do anything on my computer so it's more than enough.
I put 8GB in my mom's home office PC but somehow it's not enough. I think it's because she refuses to use tabbed browsing, runs both Chrome and Firefox at the same time and never closes a window until she's ready to shut down the computer. Sometimes multiple instances of the same site will be open across both browsers for the whole day.
Few years ago I'd say 16GB but man ram prices have ramped up suddenly here. 2x8GB costs about as much as my GPU (r9 280x)
4gb. Thinking about getting another stick but I'm hard pressed to find a reason to. Never really reach over 4gb in my daily usage. Even when I have stuff like 3DS Max, Photoshop, Firefox, Skype, Steam, torrent program and music player open.
Despite being able to keep a steam library up to date I somehow fail to put away enough money for new parts so 8gb, 16 I guess because 'murca but I don't think I've seen it use 7gb so I doubt it's a massive deal for casual gamers
Maybe you should get your eyes checked
Windows starts to swap already at 50% or so.
Not that you should always use less than that, but you are in the swap zone already.
Use sysinternals tools to check your swap usage.
(you should add +4 or +8gb of memory to your system. especially if you want to run memory hogs like skype in the background.)
nah, its stable as fuck.
the only way to make your system instable (bsod, kernel panic, whatever) is to apply rams with different brands AND speeds.
now... this PC runs all kinds of brands and speeds. but here is the trick: as long as you run them on a lower common speed (1066 in my case), they all work solid.
who cares about ram speed and dual channel crap, if you can have twice the amount of ram.
