General vegan thread, mainly for discussion of health as this is a fitness board, although if anyone's interested we can always discuss ethics and the environment.

So here's my main proposition, give me an explanation as to why a meat eater diet is superior to a vegan one for fitness, or vice versa.

Here's a link to our vegan-fit discord: https://discord.gg/WA2P32d

That's only because eating meat is "default," so you're grouping someone who eats a healthy diet that includes meat with the 500lb woman on the electric scooter at walmart eating her 4th bacon cheeseburger.

Really this stat should be "People that think about what they eat live 6-10 years longer, which includes vegetarians"

This study cannot be extrapolated to the population as a whole. It studies patients who already have cardiovascular disease. Just like salt is fine for healthy people but terrible for people with hypertension, you can make no conclusions about normal people.

In addition, there is no control group, they put these patients on a plant based diet and compare them to the general population. Other comments have already
>>42707369
>>42707349
brought up the issues with this, as you're comparing someone on a controlled diet in a hospital with the garbage the average american eats, not a healthy meat-based diet.

Also they did not here is something in the water in the area surrounding the Cleveland Clinic. Other
age the average american eats. Perhaps if they put one group on a healthy diet consisting only of plants, and another diet consisting of plants and lean meats, the second group would do even better than the first.

Lastly, they changed a ton of variables about the patients diet, not just whether they ate meat.

> Patients were also asked to avoid sugary foods
(sucrose, fructose, and drinks containing
them, refined carbohydrates, fruit juices, syrups,
and molasses). Subsequently, we also
excluded caffeine and fructose.

Excluding sugar from these patients diets makes this whole study garbage. Added sugar has been linked to heart disease, so OF COURSE cutting it out of the diet lowers the patients risk of heart diease. SOURCE: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24493081

I can address the other studies if you like but this comment is already long as fuck. Actually read the articles you're linking and think critically.

It's because meat consumption leads to lower IQs in general. This, those who avoid meat and dairy tend to hold college degrees, have careers, own homes, etc.

Successful people define themselves with said education and homes while the lesser mentally fortunate refer to their physical prowess (not unlike white trash and minorities who own pitbulls).

It's not their fault - it's the meat and dairy they've been indoctrinated by (((them))) into eating.

>correlation = causation

Vegans and vegetarians, whatever your opinion of them, tend to be thoughtful of their diet, and are also more often than not women, who live longer than men.

Basically op's picture is most likely a result of correlating two variables together, not correcting for a host of other factors that might influence it.

You could probably get the same result if you look for people that drink wine regularly.
>>
>>42710324
I would post a picture of my body to prove you wrong, but I could be identified based on my scars (used to be involved with a fight club, stabbed multiple times) and my gang affiliated tattoos from when I spent 10 years in one of the toughest prisons in the country (I’m, probably, in the top priority list of the FBI right now).

I know your type, though. You think because you can squat and deadlift heavy that you're a big guy with an impressive physique. I have built plenty of muscle without those autistic lifts. You probably think you're superior because you follow the routines of a fat little redneck man with no real knowledge of building muscular or strength. I get what you're saying, but there are zero studies out there that can actually back up what you're saying. All studies show that strict plant eaters are healthier than even occasional meat eaters. Moderation doesn't matter. Sure, eating meat in moderation is healthier than in excess, but all the science still shows that a moderate meat diet is not nearly as healthy as strict plant-based.

Don't bother
Carnibores never even so much as read Scientific studies. Meanwhile, I am Vegan and pay thousands of dollars for subscriptions to the latest scientific papers (money I save by not buying overpriced meat) so I understand the Science.

Vegans live longer, healthier, sharper minded lives. B12 deficiency doesn't exist, by the way because B12 is not an essential nutrient. In fact B12 is just a microvitamin of Vitamin C. If you get vitamin C from acidic sources like tomato juice or pickled potatoes, the acid breaks the vitamin C and you get B12. BESIDES IF YOU don't eat ANY B12 it has no health impact. No studies prove this is needed

Veganism is also better for the planet. Animal agriculture produces almost half the worlds carbon emissions. An average cow will emit more carbon and methane after flying 8 hours than a passenger jet. Meat eaters also produce more methane than Vegans and are biologically not carbon neutral. Vegans are actually slightly carbon negative because we eat legumes which cause us to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere.

Veganism is also cheaper. Meat is at least 5 times more expensive. Even the most expensive vegan foods, like dried figs, coconut oil, quinoa and chia seeds, are many times cheaper than overpriced and damaging meat like salmon, feeler minon, and others. I have saved more money in my time as a Vegan than a meat eater would in a lifetime.

why is it that vegans always compare their diets to the diets of the general population who eat notoriously unhealthy food but never compare it to omnivores with healthy diets?
>>
>>42712752
Because their statistics are true in that regard. Nevermind that if you're fit and even moderately active with a healthy relationship with food, you'll be fine. If you're completely sedentary and don't like tracking calories, I agree that a vegan diet would be best only due to the sheer amount of food it would require to put on weight.

Seitan is about 80% protein
Literally every mock meat, but they are not very healthy
All legumes are on the ballpark of 40% (by calories)
Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables and mushrooms have that much too but they are a very bad source of calories in general. Just pointing out that they won't skewer your ratio towards too many carbs, you should be eating them for micros
Pretty sure soymilk is about that much protein too

The researchers point out that, while this may appear surprising to some, these new results are consistent with several observational studies and randomized controlled trials conducted in Western countries during the last two decades.
>The large new study, when viewed in the context of most previous studies, questions the conventional beliefs about dietary fats and clinical outcomes, says Mahshid Dehghan, the lead author for the study and an investigator at PHRI.

Also highly doubt the"milk=prostate cancer" in the above article entirely especially when in the article it says:
>Estrone and prostate cancer risk in men: As far as the estrone levels Maruyama et al. measured in their 2010 study are concerned it is very difficult to tell, whether or not the 26% increase in E2 levels is or isn't a problem.
>The estrone values in the Maruyama study are unrealistic. With a normal range of <68pg/ml the subjects in the Maruyama study would have elevated E1 levels to begin with, if the measurement was correct.
>difficult to tell
>unrealistic
and
>What remains to be seen, though, is whether future epidemiological evidence will support or refute the currently heralded hypothesis that dairy consumption increases prostate cancer risk and whether we will be able to identify more feasible explanations for this relations than those that are implicated by the results Maruyama et al. present in their 2010 study.

>Poor cognitive test performance, enlargement of ventricles and low brain weight were each significantly and independently associated with higher midlife tofu consumption. A similar association of midlife tofu intake with poor late life cognitive test scores was also observed among wives of cohort members, using the husband's answers to food frequency questions as proxy for the wife's consumption. Statistically significant associations were consistently demonstrated in linear and logistic multivariate regression models. Odds ratios comparing endpoints among "high-high" with "low-low" consumers were mostly in the range of 1.6 to 2.0.

From an anon describing the studies below and the same on isoflavones: Genistein, dihydrogenistein, and equol have essentially the same binding affinity and degree of receptor activation at ERb as endogenous estrogen. Same with dihydrogenistein and equol at ERa. 3 oz of steak contains 1.9ng of estrogen, 8 ounces of soy milk contains 30000ng of isoflavone, clearly higher on a mole for mole basis. And unlike phytoestrogens estrogen is catabolized by the gastrointestinal tract and only about 5% survives first pass to the liver.

VEGANISM IS A LIE.

What do vehicles with petroleum-burning engines, and anything electric have in common? They're all powered by FOSSIL FUELS, which come from dead animals. Vegans aren't allowed to own or use ANYTHING that came from an animal -- therefore any so-called 'vegan' that drives a vehicle or uses anything electric is CHEATING and is NOT VEGAN. They may as well stop kidding themselves and go eat a steak, they all FAIL.

So-called 'vegans' also suffer from progressive cognitive deficit due to chronic amino acid deficiencies from malnutrition. That's why vegancucks don't make sense, their brains don't work correctly anymore. People I've known who were vegan then gave it up and went back to eating animal products regularly showed positive changes in their personalities and started being able to think more clearly again.

Vegans brains are so addled that they think you can raise an INFANT as vegan and expect it to be healthy and develop properly -- which it will NOT. Any pediatrician will tell you that you should not feed a baby a strict vegetarian diet, it will sicken, fail to develop, fail to thrive, and ultimately DIE. Pediatricians who encounter parents who insist, against all professional medical advice, in feeding their infant a Vegan diet, are reported to the police and to Child Protective Services, because it is legally considered CHILD ABUSE. What does THAT tell you?

Face it, vegancucks: humans are OMNIVORES, even many vegans admit it, and your meme 'lifestyle' is anti-health, anti-HUMAN, and exists as a political statement more than anything else, erroneously placing dumb lower animals above humans, which is pants-on-head stupid.

More evidence that Veganism is a LIE and actually hurts humans in the long run:

I would recommend vega one or orgain, although I do prefer vega one because it's cheaper. There are pricier protein powders like fermented pea protein by nutrasumma that supplement a decent amount of micros. But overall anon id recommend giant smoothies of spinach bananas and water/nut milk and ice if you're into that
>>
>yfw met many vegetarians that are bro's
>vegans are almost exclusively annoying cunts

>>
>>42709888
But anon aren't you curious as to what's in the meat? All those shots the animal is injected throughout its lifetime, the time it takes from the farm or slaughterhouse to the actual meat packing. The quality of food air and living situation it takes, how animals are fed absolute garbage, GMO grains that change its chemistry and growth, the conditions where dead animals are left rotting because the animals are packed too tight for workers to get to it. You want to eat meat is fine, but buy from a local farm or butchery. It's not even about veganism, do it for the sake of your own health anon

>>
>>42713336
Blindfold her and shove a sausage in her mouth
>>
1. Veganism as a set of beliefs is dumb because it's inherently hypocritical
2. Vegans cannot claim moral superiority over anyone
3. There is no absolute and definitive evidence in existence which shows that veganism or vegetarianism is inherently healthier than another diet of equal caliber in terms of health discipline and vice versa.
4. You cannot refute any of these point with success

I know three vegans irl. All of them are young, middle-class white girls who go to university for a non-stem related degree, all vote for the far left, all preach how horrible animal products are over social media, all think their music taste is objectively better than others (one girl actually posted on IG "When you don't care about the Taylor Swift controversy because you listen to good music"), all have a disdain for Christianity but no other religion, all are raging feminists, all own at least one dog which they infantilise, none of them go to gym, all of them dress in that cutesy 1950's era clothing, all of them have Disney tattoos.

Why are vegans so damn stereotypical to the point it's unnerving? It's like we hit the uncanny valley.

That study has no control group. Plus it explicitly says that they used regular methods of managing CAD in conjunction to vegan diet.

It would be cool if people could be vegan anywhere online and not just be attacked by meat-eaters right away for existing. I always come to these threads expecting a chill time with some info on how Veganism can pertain to the board I'm on, probably because I'm gay, but it's always a shit show.
Honestly, just treat annoying meat eaters like trolls. Don't respond. It's a waste of time. They think you're gay, you think they're gay. It's an equation for endless bickering and distraction from the point of the thread.
Ideally, the thread should include a wall of peer-reviewed studies to support Veganism. This way half the thread isn't just people trying to justify themselves. Any meat-eater that has a hard on for arguing has been offered the counter arguments immediately. It's a waste for everyone to comment about it in the thread at that point.

That said, what's the best plant-based protein powder, both for cost and taste?

Thus, the V diet resulted in a lower total T level (13.7, 9.8-32.4 nmol.l-1) (median and range) compared with the M diet (17.4, 11.8-33.5 nmol.l-1).
