I started dieting 2 days ago on what appears to be a Keto diet, 210g protein, 25g carbs, 90g fats.

Lifting 3 times/week, I calculated a target of 1750kcal/day to lose 0.9kg/week. Problem is, my weight has been free falling for the past few DAYS. I might be underestimating what my maintenance is given my activity/metabolism or something.

Can someone give me a possible explanation? How long should I give it before I recalculate?
>>
hey bitches, school started and i started counting my calories better.

I was pretty unfair to you superfats for a while.

When I was my heaviest, losing weight was so easy. And it wasn't even the increased TDEE, I had no problem living off 500-1000kcal a day. I sailed through 150+lbs of weight loss and time went by so fast.

But lately, let's just say I get it now.
The pangs, the cravings, the binges, the disgust, the turmoil of it all. It took it's time hitting me but it's fucking hitting me now.

Here's hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel, for all of us.

Look up Dr. Jason Fung and get red pilled the fuck out. Studies show less muscle loss than moderate daily caloric restriction + increased levels of human growth hormone + higher BMR in the long term. I'd rather go through 14 days of hell than 6 months of hell.

Was it worth it? I have had maybe 10 beers total in the last three months but I'm really considering grabbing a six pack tonight because I have had a really stressful week at work. I could probably still be around maintenance calories if I don't eat anything else, but my macros will suck.

Hi friends,

I've run into an odd predicament after losing a good amount of weight - tshirts SUCK on me.

I'll elaborate. Look at pic related. Ta-da, tis me. If you look at my back, you'll notice it's way wider than my waist - which is fine, because I have a lot of muscle there, but it makes shirts look AWFUL. Essentially, they just fall off my back and make it look like I've lost no weight which really pisses me off.

Any tips on this? Also just body tips in general for how I can look more aesthetic/fit?

t. started at 250 lbs now down to 200

pic related is me, unflexed (can post flexing but no idea how that'd help when this is about clothing)
>>
>>42554449

>ordered a Burger yesterday when I already hit my calorie limit. cut six hundred extra calories out today to make up for it.

Well nobody's perfect but at least you fixed the situation the best you could.

>doing the same tomorrow.
Not going to make it
>>
>>42554449
After the gym last night I bought 120g of fried chicken. I was still under my calorie goal but it fucked my macros up and it was clearly a loss of willpower.

Is losing willpower confession worthy of you aren't destroying your progress? Moderation has been very successful for me. I'm afraid I'll go overboard at some point, but all of my actual breajdowns haven't even touched my TDEE.
>>
What do you guys think of lifting while fasting? I'm talking not eating at all during the day, then getting a nice lift in, and resuming eating the next day.

Would that fuck up gains?
>>
>>42555865
go down a size in shirts
>>
>>42555902
Doesn't seem to fix the issue. Only marginally better.
>>
>>42555900
You won't lift as well, since you'll have less energy. You won't build much muscle if any since you haven't consumed any protein that day.

So yes ,it will fuck up gains.
>>
>>42555915
So my follow-up question is that I actually did this today and my lifts were great - like, far better than normal. Will I still get the same muscular gain though? Will fasting inhibit that sweet protein synthesis?
>>
So I'm on a cico diet with low carb (not keto) but I've noticed on mfp I'm going over my carb limit with my vegetables are vegetable carbs the "good kind i keep hearing about?
>>
>>42555937
I'm not a scientist, but since fasting means no protein intake for the day you'd obviously have less protein to work with. There's a reason protein macros are daily goals.
>>
>>42555888
we'll see
>>
>>42555838
It's kill for now, check last thread.

>>42555876
Why would it?
No calories m8, water doesn't affect you so why would coffee do it?
Remember coffee is just water, drugs, and tannins.

>>42555937
Bodies work differently and protein windows are still a debated thing, we're not sure how much they affect lifting.
The other anon saying
>There's a reason protein macros are daily goals.
Means nothing, they are a daily goal because that's how people portion nutrition, daily.
Just like how saying you should eat 1500 calories a day or 10500 calories a week, same thing.
Now I'm not saying you will get the same results, it should be harder to push yourself and protein window (protein eaten with x amount of hours from lifting) may or may not affect your lifting goals.

If lifts are going up you should be getting muscular gain.
Still not ideal to lift while fasted, cardio while fasting is A+ but lifting while fasted isn't that smart.
If you're fasting either way might as well lift though.
>>
Cant stop thinking about thicc women. Its what drives me. I want thick thighs, big natural tits, cute face, plump belly, soft skin and long flowing hair.
>>
>>42555943
Don't pay attention to carbs pay attention to net carbs, mfp doesn't know the difference.
Subtract your fiber from the amount of carbs, if that number is below your carb goal then you are good.
Fiber isn't digested and provides no calories, but mfp counts it under the carbs.
The carbs in vegetables are just more complex and are accompanied by fiber (keeps you full and good for shits) and lots of vitamins and minerals.

If this becomes an issue cronometer is p good and actually shows net carbs (carbs-fiber) as opposed to total carbs.
>>
>>42556244
>No calories m8, water doesn't affect you so why would coffee do it?

Well, there is a small amount of calories, I usually drink about 20oz. Also, I've heard that large amounts of caffeine can disrupt IF.
>>
I've been stuck at 158 lbs for maybe a week or so, I fear I might have plateaued here, despite being like 500 kcal below my TDEE daily. I've heard that sometimes having a couple days eating at maintenance can kick start weight loss again, is that a meme or should I give it a shot?
>>
>>42556334
It's not a meme, give it a shot.
>>
I tried listening to you guy's advice but it isn't helping
doubling down is just exacerbating the problem
I'm going to try to take it easy and relax my diet a little, just to see if anything changes

losing a week or two is better than spending months in weight loss purgatory
and I'm in no rush to see results, I just want consistent progress no matter how small

Had some celebrations over the calorie limit. But to reiterate, fuck drinking on keto, it blows you away so quickly
>>
>>42556326
There's a few nucleic acids and a very small amount of oils, if diet soda doesn't take you out of a fasting state the calories in coffee won't.
Never heard that about caffeine and I've done IF for quite a while, caffeine is a god send for appetite.

I'm assuming you know what fasting feels like so as long as you don't exit that fasting high you should be fine, would be surprised if caffeine could trigger any insulin response so have no idea why it could affect fasting.

>>42556334
It's a meme that works for some people, like keto.

I've been lifting for 9+ years lads. I'm tired of it. Every time i'm about to make it I get injured. I stepped in a gopher hole and fucked up my meniscus and needed surgery, then developed arthritis. no more squats ever again.

came back and got stronger, then worked on a project and got a grade 2 sprain on my bicep distal tendon.

now I was so close to making it and people were completing me saying i looked like a new man and had a meat shield back.then when doing dumbbell presses. I sprain a rotator cuff. this is something I've been doing for years and my shoulder decides to give. out for 2+ months.

still doing cardio but I'm eating passed my tdee,i consumed 2500 calories today. I'm tired of getting gainz cucked by the supernatural. evrey time i'm about to make it, BOOM! injury, most of the time it's non gym related.

this time i feel like not wanting to even go back, the fire has died for me. I go to the gym and feel even more depressed post workout. No more high just extreme dread and i want to scream in my car. I think this time i might just give up. i don't know what to do lads, shit's bumming me out. I'm 27 years old now, a grown ass man but i've grown tired of this shit.

I only started at 230, goal is 175.
Shit took two years though as once I get close to it the first time I relapsed HARD, only reason I wasn't obese was I used to go through seasonal depression where I wouldn't eat for months so it would all even out at 230-240 with absolutely no muscle since it would atrophy when starving.

Now I'm at 183 at 6'6" and absolutely no muscle, will start lifting tomorrow as I finally roped someone in going with me.
I know 175 is a bit light for someone my size but I don't want to be afraid of bulking for a while so might as well lose the extra bellyfat when I have no muscle to lose.

Going to fully cutout most fast food items and going to stop getting dessert items. I can lose that five pounds in like a week. I'm only a bit upset by the MFP loss.

I'm not sure whether or not to call this progress. On one hand, the machine claims I burned more. On the other, isn't it true that you have to always increase the workout load or you'll eventually plateau or burn less?

CHEAT DAY MOTHERFUCKERS! TIME TO GET MY EAT ON
>>
so I've been eating 1 pizza (760 calories) and a can of Corn/or green beans (about 60-80 calories)

I'm doing interment fasting. Alongside some running. I'm still a big guy, so running helps me lose weight, probably way easier then if I was a tad bit skinner and could do some of the other workouts. So I'm hoping to burn least 30-100 calories running. I've already lost 2 pound in water weight, it's I'm only on day 3. Although I haven't lost any actual pure fat yet, the fact that I've lost some water shows me I'm obviously on the right path. I'm eating under a thousand calories each day and excerising. Wish me luck /Fat/Bros

Btw my Height is 5'10 and weight is currently about 215
>>
>>42557976

The moment you stop eating your burning energy and fat. Think of weight loss like a hour glass. Every second burns fuel, instead of losing a chunk a week.
>>
>>42558000
I like that outlook lad. I won't lie this isn't my first tangle with weightloss but other times I was thinking about the short-term and not the long term. Now I have a proper schedule in place lol.

Good luck anon, glad you're on the right path. Of course I would suggest eating healthier things than pizza, even if it is low calorie. However, you are just starting out and I know I would have a lot of criticism for my first month of dieting/cutting so do what works best for you now and that's good enough. Also good call on the veggies. I would suggest greens like broccoli, beans or even peas over stuff like corn. Frozen veggies work great for me but once again just do what works best for you.

I'm 5'11 and dropped from 240 to 175 in about 4 months so if you keep eating on a solid deficit with IF you could definitely get down a good 50lbs in a few months considering you lose a lot faster when you first start PLUS when doing IF. I wish I would have done IF from the beginning.

Also, one other thing I will share is that I allowed myself a bit of a cheat one day and ate a whole frozen pizza (1,360 calories) I still ate at a caloric deficit though but I noticed I plateaued more than usual the next few days. I find the fewer carbs I eat I seem to lose more weight. But to be fair that could just be my imagination.

Anyone here count calories over the course of a few days or a whole week rather than each day? I've been considering giving it a try as counting daily has worked fine for several months now but I feel like trying something different might help keep me motivated.

I'm just worried that eating extra calories some days might still have a negative effect even though I'll still meet the overall limit. I was also thinking of counting over the course of 3 days at a time.
>>
>>42558407
Carbs retain more water and refuel glycogen stores furthering water retention still, if you go on keto you lose an incredible amount of water weight at first since carbs are such a big factor.
Water retention isn't a big deal unless you are autistic about the number on the scale of course.
>>
>>42558729
Good to know. I was aware sodium affects water retention but didn't know carbs were that big of a factor. While we're on the subject though, what would you consider a good carb limit? I'm on IF but definitely no intention of doing keto, at least at the moment.

Ex-fatty here. Im hovering at 15%, constantly. How do I proceed from here? Even when I push myself to go lower the only way to stay there is to constantly suffer from hunger and tasteless food.

No calories=no more building muscles if you are natty. Whenever I wanna go back to eating and building muscles I immediately gain back those %.

Sugar is amazing. Ive eaten rows of fig newtons and entire boxes of eclairs. Ive gone out to get ice cream at 3 AM many, many times. I love buying those 1 dollar boxes of glazed donuts at the grocery store and eating ALL 12 of them within a 6 hour period until they make me sick. Eating those 30 oz tubs of yogurt with fruit mixed in, eating cookies as a meal, melting down a gallon of ice cream so I could drink it. I usually dipped bread in maple syrup and Hershey syrup, microwaved it, great! I love those giant 7 dollar brownies dominos delivered warm and chewy, ate the whole thing many times with a whole pizza (or two). Chugging gallons of orange juice 2-3 times a week is also a great way to stuff your face, so good!

I had to lessen my intake of sugar to say the least and have lost a lot of weight since. Now I only have tiny yogurt cups, some fruit, and occasionally some lightly sugared drink in a small reasonable serving size. Count calories, it's a game well worth playing. The numbers on a donut will make you put it down, simply because you wont be able to eat anything else for the day.

Most people here are trying to lose weight, not gain. It's probably better to ask in new thread, or QTDDTOT.

My limited understanding is that nobody can stay at very low bf% for very long periods.

I also understand, I think, that bulking and cutting is cyclical. You build muscle and fat, cut fat, build muscle and fat, repeat. You get more and more muscle over time. Isn't that the point?

>>42559172
This thread is for fatties losing weight. I'm less fat than I was, but I still can't see my dick because of my stomach.

Different poster here, but if you're a dude don't go lower than 1200cal a day.

Learn to prepare and eat healthy food. Fasting is shit at least partially because it doesn't prepare you for changing how you eat every day forever. Losing weight is only half the battle, keeping it off is even harder because it's forever.

Work out , especially lifting weights.

Intermittent fasting with no exercise, tested on myself, use caution, consult family/doctor.

You can eat one meal (1300-2200cal, balanced nutrients) in 48 hours, that will give you 650-1100cal a day, the weight loss will be pretty rapid (1-3kg a week), don't do this for more than 2 weeks.

I think I need to be smarter about all that. Maybe I should try and finally go below 10%, a completely foreign territory for me as I've never been that low in my life. Also it seems almost impossible to attain.

So far: Haggis w/ piles of mashed potato and celeriac (mashed with a huge chunk of butter each), buttered carrots, kale and tenderstem broccoli soaked in gravy, a za'atar bun (more to follow), a square of apple and maple cake iced with maple syrup icing and nuts, a mouthful of *dense* rocky road (more to come) and two scoops of salted caramel oppo ice cream. Yet to come: victoria sponge cake, peanut butter blondies, lime drizzle cake, pecan cookies, shortbread, scones with jam and cream, hot chocolate w/toppings, meringue w/ whipped cream, Viennese whirl and finally whatever I also have for dinner.

>>42560284
out of curiosity, do you think cheat days make you crave bad foods more? I don't do cheat days and I pretty much lost the desire to eat that kind of stuff.
>>
>>42560305
No idea to be honest. I do eat fucktons of veg on the regular to stay full every day and keep at a good caloric deficit. I did go a bit hungry last night in prep. I could easily eat two large takeaway pizzas before I sorted my diet out.
>>
>>42560326
Do you think your stomach has shrunk at all?
I can only eat about half as much in a binge than I could before.
>>
>>42560314
Personally for me I treat them as a reward for sticking to my diet, only having them if I stuck to it. I'm pretty content day to day with chicken and rice with lots of veg, I really love vegetables but it's nice to pig out once a month. Also I try and make my cheat days with other people, not just slobbing on my own. I'm with the family today so it's a nice occasion.
>>
>>42554279
reduced carbs leads to reduced water weight i.e. you pissed it out

>>42560350
A bit yeah, I could definitely pack away more food before I cleaned my act up. I had a carvery cheat day with friends and piled my plate as high as I used to and had a sizeable leftover pile at the end of it. Eating more filling and less calorie dense stuff probably helps.

You probably have experienced it less than me because you've properly altered your diet to be more fulling.
I've just gone cold turkey for the most part and have still been eat calories dense stuff so I imagine that makes the stomach shrink more due to it rarely being full.

>>42560400
That's probably a better method. I just love the feeling of being full and stuffing my face with cabbage seemed like a good alternative. Certainly means I fit more into my cheat days than I probably should.
>>

No it really isn't, it means I'm way hungrier than I should be because my stomach is empty.

I lost 160 pounds in 9 months and now despite being well within a healthy bmi I still have more of a gut than my friends who weigh 50 pounds more than I do now. And it's all skin/empty fat cells, I could probably grab a handful and tie it in a knot if I tried.

I think I want to give up on the keto meme. I think the most useful part about keto is you tend to stay away from fast foods because these rarely meet your carb limit per day, but I don't think it's smart to not eat any fruits.

I've lost over 70 lbs but I think I could have done this with any diet and exercise, I just read that keto would do it faster.
>>
>>42561373

It doesn't work like that, there is no study to support it. Keto is on par with other diets.
>I think the most useful part about keto is you tend to stay away from fast foods because these rarely meet your carb limit per day
What about suppressed appetite and the nature of the foods you eat being extremely satiating? Keto is so good for controlling hunger.
And you can still eat fast food, just be smart about it. Bunless burgers, chicken wings, subway salads, so on.
>but I don't think it's smart to not eat any fruit
Then eat fruit. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, avocados are keto-friendly, within limits of course. Plenty of vegetables too.
>>
>>42561615
Nah, keto works. I lost 100 pounds in 5 months, ate pretty much whatever I wanted and didn't exercise once, besides walking to class and stuff. The other anons problem is he had a daily carb limit that was greater than zero. If you're gonna do keto, you can't try to cheat it.
>>
>>42561662
I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm on keto myself and have great results.
>The other anons problem is he had a daily carb limit that was greater than zero.
It doesn't have to be. You can safely consume 20 g of carbs every day, I can handle 50 g without being kicked out of ketosis, some people can eat even more than that.

>>42565134
Talk to your doctor and a physical therapist (sports therapist?) to see what kind of lifting you can do. Consider swimming.

Walking IS good exercise, though, if you do it enough. How much are you walking? I do 8 to 10 miles a day every day. I'm sure it's helping.
>>
>>42564964
Exact same for me. The only info I've heard is from this study
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-biggestloser-idUSKCN0Y12E9
Basically dieting can somehow reduce your TDEE. I can't find any other studies so I've no idea if it could apply outside of those extremes, but I'm assuming it applies to me since it makes the numbers add up.

I just cut a little harder and stricter and do a bit more exercise. Assuming that its true, I'm not sure if going lower is a good idea or it will just further fuck me over, so I'm just accepting the slower rate of loss for now. I've spent a decade at a bmi of 30 (33 at my worst), and I've finally gotten below that.

The original concept is that you can be lax on a meal every once in a while (say once or twice a month).
Have a favorite dessert/food?
Eat that but be still be careful, if you ate a little over your TDEE no worries if you do good the other days you don't have cheat meals.
Some fatties are willing to get rid of an entire week's effort like >>42564938, the other anon also is spouting nonsense.

Do whatever you want, there are different takes on how you do it.
I would recommend only doing it for holidays, if you continue to eat junk food you will continue to enjoy it, abstaining makes sugary shit taste like sugary shit, it makes greasy stuff taste really greasy, you get the gist.

A safe way to do it is eat 300 calories less than you normally would the days before and after, on the day where you cheat just have an extra meal that day being less than 1000 calories or so of something you really miss.
Don't do this too often though.

The stomach shrinks plus when you actually think about the food you are eating you realize what satiety feels like, a lot different than eating a pizza as fast as you can not thinking about when you should stop.
A diet with satiating foods is hard to go hungry on, green veggies and fatty meat will keep you full for hours.

Its quoting from a scientific journal
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/oby.21538/full

Like I said, I wish there was more than one study to go by.

In my case, but I am absolutely consuming 1500 calories, my TDEE should be around 2100, and I lose maybe a 1/2lb a week. I have no way to measure my TDEE but that implies that its like 1700-1800ish. I don't like self diagnosis, but I also want to stop being fat this decade.

>>42565419
Appealing to nature is a terrible fallacy, something being natural doesn't mean it's better than anything unnatural, especially when you can't back up claims that I what told him to eat (fat, protein, and greens) is unnatural or unhealthy.

Rice isn't very filling and neither is pasta, pasta being the reason many people are obese already.
You're telling people to eat starches which are calorie dense, unfulfilling, and not very nutrient rich at all.

Terrible for weightloss, I don't care if you do this to maintain or gain but if someone needs to be satiated they shouldn't be looking at rice, they should be eating fat, protein, and fibers.
Now if you want to get all vegan on me that's fine but it doesn't change the fact that you should have plenty of healthy fats in your diet when cutting.

>>42565578
