Vegetal protein < Animal protein

Plant protein must be broken down by the liver and reassembled into animal protein. That requires energy and the product has less animal protein then if you simply ate meat.

>>
>>42150528
and that is my main problem with going vegan, I actually like the idea of going vegan but it seems to be fucking impossible for my lifting goals.

A conservative estimation has me sitting around 180g of Protein a day and I have yet to see a vegan diet that is realisitc and has that much protein and keep in mind that is not even a high estimation of what I would need.

So if any vegans are here I would love to get a mealplan that has me around 2500kcal and has 180g of Protein without me needing to eat an insane amount of food or only eat nuts all day long.

If someone can come up with a solution to this that also has some variety and tastes decent I would go vegan instantly I just havent found it yet.

I myself have been thinking about going vegan, anyways here's what I want to know.
How did you feel once you started a vegan diet?
Do you have more or less energy throughout the day on a vegan diet?
Should I ease into a vegan diet, or just quit all meat immediately?
Any downsides to the diet?
What are some foods that I should always have in my pantry/fridge if I'm gonna become a vegan?
Thanks.

Great!
>How did you feel once you started a vegan diet?
LOTS of farts for the first 2-3 weeks, after that nothing special. No, I don't feel super energized in the morning or have less acne or whatever. Although I have never felt sleepy after a huge meal I guess? Or at least it may be less?
>Do you have more or less energy throughout the day on a vegan diet?
Pretty much the same, just less post-prandial sleepiness
>Should I ease into a vegan diet, or just quit all meat immediately?
Don't push yourself too hard and crash! If it's too hard try 1 day per week only at first, when you feel comfortable, then add a second day, etc
Also count calories. If you forget nuts it's easy to undereat!
>Any downsides to the diet?
Harder to eat out
You'll have to log in everything in cronometer for a couple months until you get used to what food has what nutrients
You'll have to learn to cook some foods from scratch
>What are some foods that I should always have in my pantry/fridge if I'm gonna become a vegan?
Dry beans/peas/chickpeas/lentils, if you like cooking, canned if you are lazy like me
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice
Soy milk, oats and berries
Mock animal products like beyond burgers and daiya cheese to help you transition
Spinach or kale
canned tomatoes
Mushrooms and cucumbers if cutting
nuts and pb if bulking
You know, normal food
Chia/flax/hemp seeds for them ω3s

It's unrealistic, but using lentils and beans as a base, and a bit of nuts to top it off, you could go vegetarian or low-meat.
Milk post-wo, some eggs, or a bit of fish will be enough for you to hit your macros.

If you want to use rice or pasta as a base, you'll need a lot more meat, just to cover the proteins.

"Strange" is a matter of habit. There is nothing objectively wrong with soy milk or tofu, and seitan is literally ultra-mega-super high protein bread. I'd say that eating bean (soy) and wheat (seitan) products is less strange than eating tendons, assholes, nostrils, eyeballs, skin, ears, tails etc in the form of sausages but that's just me
>expensive
Not really, no. Seitan is literally the price of bread if you make it yourself

The more usual beans and lentils can sub for soy, anyway. They have almost the same protein/calories ratio.
As for seitan, sure it's cheap to make bread, but it's not common and wheat gluten isn't commonly sold, especially now with that anti-gluten fad going on. You'll have to buy it prepackaged, and that's a good bit more expensive.
It's a shame, because that would be the perfect complement to beans.

It can be very difficult for the uninitiated to activate their almonds. Better off starting with making your own coconuts at home first.
>>
>>42154171
You can make seitan cheaply by washing regular flour. The carbs are mostly water soluble, the proteins mostly not, so you can just soak and rinse in a bowl over and over. You can even make wholemeal seitan with wholemeal flour.
>>
>>42154255
I've read about that but I don't know if I should trust that the carbs have all been rinsed off. Why not just buy vital wheat gluten? It's not like it's expensive or anything
>>
>>42154171
It's not cheap, for a plant-based product, but it's cheaper than meat.
I'll have to experiment with it, it should go well in a stew with lentils.
>>
>>42154316
Let us know how it goes!
>>
>>42154288
I buy gluten and store it in tubs myself. Seitan is a centuries old meat substitute, that's the traditional method of making it. AFAIK gluten is still purified like that with an additional step at the end where it's broken up and seived to make a powder.

I've never known it be impossible to get, but it's still nice to know how to make it imo. It's a lot easier to buy than in the past, about 10 years ago you normally had to order it through fishing shops (gluten is used to form bait sometimes), so it's not so important. I've only ever done it for very niche reasons such as messing with unusual flours or wanting the leftover carb broth for something.
>>
>>42154323

That's the point. Radical centrism is significantly better than strict vegan diets. Meat eaters certainly should eat less red meat, more fish and yes, more vegetables. Vegans should not be strict, and mix in some chicken or fish.

The longest living people on the planet, are not strict vegans (Okinawans) and their larger group (Japanese) eat tons of meat, and are the 2nd longest living people. Just this simple fact destroys strict veganism.

There is LITERALLY NOTHING, including B12, ω3 or any essential amino acid that you can't get from plants and need chicken or fish.

>There is LITERALLY NOTHING, including B12, ω3 or any essential amino acid that you can't get from plants and need chicken or fish.

but there are plenty of nutrients that you can get which are more easily absorbed from mean and far more plentiful from meat sources.

>Okinawans USED TO be the longest living population BEFORE they westernized their diet and added meat and eggs in.

yes, and all the other groups who rank highest in average age in the world aren't strict vegans. ESPECIALLY the Sardinians, those guys love their meats.

>Before they Westernized their diet

So did they or did they not, before getting McDonald's, eat meat? You know the answer is yes. It doesn't matter if it's 5%. They were not and are not strict vegans.

Do strict vegans live longer? The answer is really no. They did a study on seventh day Adventists and they lived like 7 years longer than meat eaters. The problem is, they also eat small amounts of fish and other meat. So they aren't even vegan.

Your mistake is ignoring the middle. It's either all or nothing, when in fact it appears small amounts of meat, with large amounts of vegetables are the key. So by being strict vegan, you aren't living to your full health potential anyways.

Your diet is dumb.

You realize all of those people you referenced are stupid. You know a complete protien is only formed when all the amino acids are put together. So if you get 240% of any amount for all amino acids except for one, that is at 120% then your body is unable to use the full 240%. That one amino acid that is lacking will prevent the additional 120% that every other amino acid has from forming a protien.

If you're bulking it's easy as shit, unless you insist on stuffing your face with sweets and shit. Even eating 3000 calories of spaghetti nets you 180g of protein. The amino profile isn't so good but you get my point. It's really easy to get a lot of protein if you're eating a lot of food. On a cut it's a different story. Try eating 2000 calories and eating 180g of protein. You're going to require a protein powder or some other cop out to increase your protein intake on a vegan diet.

That's actually impressive. I would've assumed there would be way more tofu required. I stand corrected.

But I would like to add, if you ever went out eating with friends and your macros are all fucked up, you can't just eat something that's pure protein to make up for it, unless it powder. Just saying. I've had situations like that. You can't always plan ahead and sometimes you have to make up for a bad diet on certain days. Having a protein powder makes your life easier. But if you can plan out your day, it seems like there's no issue.

Well, two things
1) you can quickly toss some pre-marinated seitan in the pan, it literally has the macros and texture of breaded chicken schnitzel and tastes like anything you make it taste, including chicken
2) there are vegan protein powders that work just fine, and while I admit theyare not a necessity, so is "eating shit when out with friends". So yeah, that.

example recipe

Broth:
8 cups better than bouillon no beef base
8 cups water
3 tsp liquid smoke
2 tsp applewood smoked sea salt
1 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 tbsp ketchup
4 cloves minced garlic
1 tbsp onion powder
Seitan dough, dry ingredients:
2 cups wheat gluten
1/2 cup nooch
2 tbsp oat flour
1/2 tbsp applewood smoked sea salt
1/4 tbsp pepper
Seitan dough, wet ingredients:
1 cup broth from above
1/4 cup low sodium sea salt
2 tbsp olive oil
Directions:
Whisk together broth cold, set 1 cup aside
Boil on high heat, lid on
Whisk together dry ingredients
When dry ingredients are whisked, add wet ingredients ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until its combined
With a lightly floured cutting board ready, start kneading the dough for 5 minutes. You want a big square or circle, about 3/4 inch thick after 5 minutes of kneading. Once done, let sit 5 minutes
Cut seitan into 4 equal pieces and add to boiling broth. Reduce to simmer and cover for 45 minutes.
Turn the pieces over every 15 minutes or so. After 45 minutes, turn off heat and uncover and let sit for 15 minutes.
Ready to eat! You can pan fry or grill or eat as is. Store in broth in the fridge for a week.

It takes a few months for the body to get enough buildup of bacteria capable of bean digestion.

Also sadinians are white what are you talking about
>>
>>42160367
You dont just get new bacteria in your gut, its part of evolution, for bacteria its a little bit faster still but the dietary bacteria evolution has an unknown factor.

And since we can digest milk, and other races cannot, and will not throughout their entire lives (?). And we also have fat processing genes for our past as more as hunters than gatherers, we even have the upper body of our distinct history. And the direct genes who in interaction with the bacteria theoretically could also adapt better to it all (if one went back on the original diet that is deprived of sugars and other modern crap)

then yea. But I bet you vegan fags didnt even think about this angle or did you

>>
>>42160408
You can eat it. I can eat plastic. You cannot digest and absorb it anywhere near the extent the japanese or koreans can because your bodies quite literally have different bacterial makeups.

I really don't get how white people see how this is so for milk and dairy products, but when it comes to anything else white people are so adamant that their bodies can eat anything just as well as any other race even if historically and we're talking about hundreds of thousands of years here, you've never eaten or even come in contact with it.

and that is just the tip of the fucking iceberg you know.

The seaweed, lactose tolerance, fat processing genes. I dont like to put up blatant /pol/ kind of graphs but this serves as a nice comparison.

Look at my chart, and then you would have to imagine that there is most likely just as much, if not much more still of difference just for foods alone between the races.
>>
>>42160372
I'm vegan and I don't agree with everything said, probably because the film makers simplified a lot of things that I know the actual researchers and doctors would put a context to.

They didn't say diabetes has nothing to do with [simple]carbs, they specifically said it fuels it, but it doesn't cause it per se, as many seem to think. That is true. Fat, through intramyocellular lipids, do cause insulin resistance which is how diabetes type 2 starts. Animal fat is also linked to beta cell death, which are the cells producing insulin.

You can of course put on fat by eating carbs, but it's much harder. Search for de novo lipogenesis, it's the process of making carbs into fat and it's highly regulated. It takes some serious overfeeding to have a significant portion of fat storage come from carbs.

Carbs again probably have mainly a secondary role in weight gain by being prefered by the body, so fat is no burned when carbs are available. So if you eat tons of fat and carbs, the fat is easily stored and not used because you keep providing carbs, thus the fat accumulate.
>>
>>42160447

the simplest of things to know is that there was a fat avoidance craze, which resulted in more sugar consumption, which resulted in more obesity. Thus the argument that fats cause these problems are wrong. Its 100% sugars, and probably in combination with animal fats, if one were to only eat healthy animal fats and no sugars, one could probably avoid most of the pitfalls mentioned in the vegan threads.
>>
>>42160463
No because lactose tolerance is not about gut flora, it's about an enzyme the body has to produce.

Sea weed is 100% gut flora as can be seen: http://cmore.soest.hawaii.edu/summercourse/2014/documents/DeLong_1/sushi_microbiome.pdf

So it's not the same at all.

we are talking about the fact that you want to make your arguments so narrow (like the slit eyed japs that you like so much with your studies), that you discard an argument of which you know you cannot win against.

and you no longer can censor us, even the supreme court decided that you are not allowed to do that since our opinions are equal to yours in the arena, even if they come from such a base of the political spectrum.

But the important thing to understand there is that fat consumption has increased steadily over the last 100 years, so this "fat avoidance craze" hasn't had much of an impact. Refined sugar is shit, yes, we all agree on that, but fatty animal producs are also shit, this you need to get.

What the fuck does whiteness and seaweed digestibility have to do with veganism? How off topic can you get?
>>
>>42160491
>>42160480

I already showed you that your milk-seaweed example is shit because they are two completely different things. One is regulated by failing to stop producing a digestive enzyme after breatfeeding, the other is caused by gut flora introduced by eating seaweed.
>>
>>42160474
Far from it. But I refuse to believe that genetics doesn't play a part in diet. Some races are much better at handling other foods than others.

>>42160480
Our comparative gut metagenome analyses show that porphyranases and agarases are frequent in the Japanese population and that they are absent in metagenome data from North American individuals. Seaweeds make an important contribution to the daily diet in Japan (14.2 g per person per day), and Porphyra spp. (nori) is the most important nutritional seaweed, traditionally used to prepare sush. This indicates that seaweeds with associated marine bacteria may have been the route by which these novel CAZymes were acquired in human gut bacteria, and that contact with non-sterile food may be a general factor in CAZyme diversity in human gut microbes.

>To date, the literature describes six different strains of this species, all of which were isolated from the intestinal microbiota of Japanese individuals and the type strain was sequenced as part of the Human Microbiome Project (HMP, http://genome.wustl.edu/genomes).

>Interestingly, in one Japanese family, the mother and her unweaned baby girl had a microbiota containing porphyranase and agarase genes, suggesting that porphyranolytic gut Bacteroides strains may be transmitted between relatives.

>In contrast, when analysing the gut metagenome data of 18 North American individuals (total read length, 1,830,767,417 bp;
average length, 223 bp)7 no porphyranase or agarase genes were detected, even though this data set is 2.5-fold larger than the Japanese data set (almost tenfold considering average read length).

How does that disagree with my point that Japanese are much more adapted to consuming seaweed than white people?

We don't need to censor you, actually I think that your position should be heard by as many people as will hear it.

Because you've convinced yourselves so thoroughly of eugenics and your genetic gifts that you are allowing yourselves to be (in)bred out of the genepool ala European royal families. Again, why censor someone that seems to advocate their own cultural annihilation?
>>
>>42160542
This just sounds like a parallel of HAES rhetoric, "I can't lose weight I'm genetically predisposed to being 500+". "No one but pacific islanders should eat seaweed their aren't genetically predisposed to digesting it."
>>
>>42160542
In that they are not? They have different gut flora because they have different diets.. The japanese eat seaweed and introduce a bacteria that is naturally present on the weed and aids their digestion, they have tons of this bacteria in their gut. North americans don't eat this seaweed, don't get the bacteria, thus don't have these genetic strains of bacteria in their guts. Are you playing dumb? You know what gut meta genome is right? it's not the peoples genes, it's the genome of their gut flora..

yeah but your gut population isn't set in stone. the composition of the microbiota fluctuates on a meal-to-meal, day-to-day, and stressor-to-stressor basis.

there is absolutely no reason why someone who starts eating seafood won't develop the bacteria

Yes there is you imbecile.

Protein isn't one all encompassing magic molecule, it comes in a variety of forms, some more digestible than others, some not digestible at all.

There's a difference between plant and animal proteins, and how bio available they are.

Been vegan for 2 years, not big or anything, just do some complimentary lifts for my climbing, but certainly not feeling like protein is an issue. I don't eat any protein powder and don't even think about it so I can't image someone who does both of those things and want to get big would have any issues at all.

Doesn't the fiber in plant based protein make it easier to process? I'm genuinely asking; I've read so many contradicting sources I don't know what to think anymore.
>>
>>42160638
No there is not, all protein is broken down into amino acids and then reassembled according to needs. Animal protein doesn't just do directly through the blood while plant protein is broken down in the liver, they are both broken down. Sure there is a small difference in the bio availability, but not in the metabolism of the protein.

Because you have an arbitrary standard for "meat". Instead of deepthroating that broscience index from "bodybuilding.com" that keeps being copy&pasted without having any scientific source, look at this: >>42161399

As you can see, some animal products, like meat, has the same bioavailability as some plants, some plant foods have even higher, like wheat gluten(which the meat substitute seitan is made of). Some animals products has higher and some plants higher, if you don't understand this you are beyond retarded. If you compare "meat" to what you will replace it with in your diet like soy, wheat, nuts etc. you see that there is pretty much no difference.

Protein is fucking protein, the amino acids pretty much all come from plants to start with, so thinking there is a categorical difference between animal protein and plant protein is a fucking retard. The only variation is in amino acid ratios, but if you eat high protein foods you will meet your needs regardless if it's plants or animal producs.
>>
>>42160369
And their average height never improved until capitalism brought meat into their general diet.
