To get things back on track : gyms are really expensive in Japan as a rule, so I'm making the most of it by going every day it's open (they close Mondays)

I'm paying roughly $90. How much are the gyms in your area? Do they have any nice amenities? My gym has a sauna and a nice soaking hot tub, as well as some skincare products. So I use the hell out of em to make the most of it.

/fat/ how do you stay motivated?
I stopped counting my calories, and my weightloss had grinded to a hult.

I lost 20kg (44lbs) in 6 months, most of that was in the first three, i'm still 117kg (257lbs)

I want to get healthier, and I know I can get back to where I was 4 years ago at about 80kg (170ish lbs). and i'm maintaing my current weight. but i cant seem to get lower

Any advice?
>>
>>42102909
you can get lower.
you already lost 20, there is no reason you can't lose more.
Whenever i look at myself in the mirror and think "it's no use, this is as far as i can go", i just tell myself firmly "no, keep going, it'll be alright".
Sounds tacky, but works for me.
stick to your plan, keep going.

>>
>>42102963
because that's not how it works, simple as that.
be patient. you can rebuild your muscle after you are satisfied with your fat.
>>
>>42102909

I stayed the same weight for 6 months after losing 23kgs

One day I pigged out on some chocolate and I realised that this gives me very short term pleasure in exchange for long term misery. I started giving it some thoughts and as weird as it will sound, came to the conclusion that food is just fuel and it's a sad thing how much time I spent before, thinking about food. I don't mean to say I don't enjoy eating delicious things but I was able to negate my obsession with it because of that small realisation in the beginning.
Your answer to this problem may be different than mine but there's this fact that no one is shoving food in your mouth apart from yourself. Try to think of why you're using your hands to stuff shitty things in there, what that gives you and why can't you just distract your mind with something more useful than gluttony.
>>
>>42102909

Lately I just take note (In the Notes app in my iPhone) of the foods I'm eating every day rather than getting autistic over the exact calories. I think it's more important to be mindful of what you are eating than to know the EXACT nutrition. For example, if I have to write that I ate 4 waffles, a double cheeseburger, fries, 5 slices of pizza in a day I know I fucked up. It depends on the individual though. If you're the kind of person that is in constant denial about just how bad the calories you're eating are you should dispel that by counting calories of everything you eat. If you're like me and prone to grazing throughout the day, or the occasional binge then just writing the foods you eat down might work.

NB: You do have to know the rough number of calories in your head for the various food you eat for this method to work. For example, you have to know that a burrito from Chipotle is ~1000 kcal.

Anyway, I started a ketogenic diet (already been dieting for a while now, but wanted to lose faster) 3 days ago and am down 6 lbs already. I know it's mostly water, but it still feels good.
>>
>>42102980

>pin point exact location between the gym/pool and school to find the right place to look for rent.
>eventually do all the google itineraries I can think of (from home to gym/pool/school/dads place/back home and variations)
>calculate transport time for a sample of ideal days : 2h13 min to 2h43 min depending on if I go visit my dad or not.

Well I guess on the good side, I might shave off a good hour of that time by not going to school on weekends, and maybe visiting my dad only once during the weekend. But still more than 1h30 in underground+bus system is going to wreck my nerves.
I thought of a couple things I could do to handle it : read ebooks, do schoolwork+study, listen to audiobooks, watch short series episodes.
I guess it'll be worth it. There's no way I am not going to the gym at least six times a week, and the pool maybe thrice.
Wish me luck, anons...It'll be a new beginning for me, in terms of social, professional life. I don't want to mess this up, but I am scared. So I plan and prepare neurotically, I guess.

you guys, I was just checking lidl's catalogue in my country to see if those potatoes were available and found that there's a silvercrest kitchen blender for 9.99 euros (260w), there are no references yet to what model it is on catalogue, just a picture and infographic on what its functions are. >>42103006
This is what fat people don't understand, the root of their problems is their relationship with food.
Food is fuel.
Food can be tasty, food can be delicious, but when choosing what to eat your primary relationship should be "this food needs to be fuel".

Otherwise it is treated a drug, which is fine when being hedonistic on holidays but other than that fuck off, everyday drug use is bad.
>>
>>42103408
Best to do cardio on off days or AFTER lifting.
Lifting while already fatigued makes you unable to lift as heavy and will make you less motivated.
A run after lifting can relieve tension and its less of a big deal missing a lap or two as opposed as missing a set.

Not something to be overthought but this is usually what most people end up going with.

Was just fasting on and off lately for building up will power and testing the waters. Was thinking about trying to get into keto and coming out of the fast after a third day with a keto meal plan to keep the fat burning going. Anyone have an opinion? Also going to look for recipes now mostly I just know eggs and avocados. Also broccoli and bell peppers are unlikely to trip the keto up.

Looks like maybe hes down 40 pounds. Maybe 35. Also hes young and if hes lifting he will fill it in a bit. So I doubt he did more than that.

Supposedly long term fasting is being studied because it produced some results where the skin was absorbed and repaired.

Literally no girl cares about that, i assure you that. As long as your penis isn't a micropenis you will be fine. My ex had a huge penis but it was just too painful, i couldn't do a thing. Those guys have a harder time having a normal sex life, while having sex with a normal sized pecker (like 5" or smaller, yes i'm not kidding) is much more fun. yes, the process that anon is mentioning is called autophagy - the consumption of dead skin cells- and there has been some evidence that fasting also detoxifies the intestinal tract by giving enough time for the organ to completely scrub the excess slime in the small, big intestine and colon. The clearer skin is a seen side effect of prolonged fasting that has been noted in studies. Story cheks out.

I think some micronutrients are fat soluble only, so you might be safe only going as far as your natural reserves will take you. Also it's good to note some micronutrients are produced by the body, others aren't, so you focus on the latter for supplementing. Best you can do is focus on the water soluble ones, and don't take it further than what your reserve's worth of the others before deficiency will take you.

Thats weird.
I do use vitamins, mineral supplements and especially lots of biotine but only because my diet is bad and because i cut by 1800 kcal a day, already fainting really easily. I dunno, get some on amazon or tabletts to dissolve in water, they usually have artificial sweeteners in them.
>>42106259
I just add some artificial sweetener like stevia, really like this stuff. Coffee smoothies don't sound that bad, I might give it a try (when i finally get my mixer!). While fruits and a few carbs are always good, your coffee smoothie will end up having the same amount of sugar in it, right? Or maybe more, do you think there will be a difference with just adding plain sugar for sweetness?
Anyway, I think it's a good idea, combining those two!

Is it ever "too late" to change a bad lifestyle into a healthy one? Not talking about motivational quotes or some shit, I'm really curious about the actual science. When do you get to the point where you have done irreversible damage to yourself?

I'm 26 and my diet since childhood has consisted of red meat, fat, sugar and almost no vegetables, combined with a completely sedentary lifestyle, and excessive drinking and smoking for the past five years. I've literally always been overweight. Am I fucked, or can I still change my ways and live to be 100?

This. In one of Jordan B Peterson's videos he mentioned something along the lines of "people don't change. A fat person goes to the gym for two days and then gives up". This gave me incredible motivation to do exactly that: change. Now 30 pounds down from 310 and still on track. yes, if you need to implement systems of cognitive therapies that are more advanced than the basic toolkits I'd recommend looking at manuals for practicioners targeted at helping them implement systems for clients, and learn from them yourself. it's a great start. eventually if some problems subsist or you run into pitfalls, I'd recommend skimming through the classics on depression (I have quite a few in my list), as well as going through the research articles of cognitive therapists on your local academic source site to see the advancements of the science, the development of new techniques. There is only positives in learning how your ailment operates, and how to cope with it and work your way around it until life becomes somehow manageable. So you could read it first, even if it may seem introductory to you at the beginning (for someone who has depression it might be predictable), but overall there are some good sources, some good pointers where to look for in-depth research (see a particular concept you're interested in, investigate further).
Good luck, anon!

i think going to a doctor and talkign to someone would help if you have chronic depression.

i was diagnosed with clinical depression early last year. i was having a breakdown. there were days where i would just stay in my room and avoid my family completely. i'd zone out and start crying if left to my own thoughts.

went to a doctor, got on anti-depressants, took steps towards getting better. went into group therapy, started going on a walk every day. when i could manage my anxiety i started looking for jobs, got one with a friend at a great friendly place, which made me feel even better.

>>
>>42106962
listen anon, I know you're trying to help.
Unfortunately, you might be one of the lucky few for which medication has "worked" rather than worsen things. In most cases, people associate a remission of depression (the end of a seasonal bout) with the recent start of a medication, while it's in fact cycles coming and going along. Most of the external factors you said, that are natural, like developing positive habits and going to therapy are however harmless and can only improve anon's circumstances.
I'd strongly advise against accepting prescription medication so rapidly, especially if it's anon's first bout of depression and if he's not knowledgeable in the fields of psychiatry.
Also I don't know where he lives, but in some countries, just going to a psychiatrist puts you on a looney list, as well as binds you to follow a treatment by law and in case you stop you can be instituted in a psychiatric hospital or facility for who knows how long, it'll be at the mercy of staff there, and from personal (my mother) experience they aren't generally keen to let the healthiest people go home.
Not to mention the countless side effects of meds, from hyper/insomnia to appetite enhancement and weight gain, to chronic fatigue, apathy, becoming a zombie, etc...
And if ever you have a bout with the law, good luck not being judged as mental once you have a psychiatric record, and having your case treated with prejudice against you because people wouldn't trust a crazy.
Yeah, no, I think anon is better off reading books for now. You had good intentions though, no harm done.

>>42106853
wow, thats impressive!
It's amazing how much people change while losing weight, like they lose their prison, their shell and are suddenly 'set free' or whatever you call it in english.

look up what amount you need of this and that mineral and vitamin per day and try to meet your daily needs. Electrolytes are important, yo
>>42106486
Maybe add some filler like lots of salad and tomatoes, don't use lots of ketchup or mayo, there are alternatives for it (can't name them though cause i absolutely dislike ketchup, mayo or anything similar, it makes me puke). Use low-fat meat and maybe use something different than white-meal bread. Whole grain maybe?
Thats all I can say about it, I don't really eat hamburgers, hope it helps
>>42106532
Oh i have this almost daily. I'm glad i can stay at home atm but when I have to ride I'm forced to eat a small amount of food, usually <200 kcal. Drink lots of water aswell, maybe antihistamines will help aswell. Although I think eating even small amounts isn't a fast anymore, right?

why do people like to spread misinformation about diet soda? Not everyone wants to consume just water for all eternity.

Why give someone a reason to go back to regular soda?
>>
>>42107052
get a trash bag and fill it with crumpled up newspapers.

QUICK QUESTION

how much does drinking a 3-liter bottle per-day increase my metabolism?
>>
>>42107162
MY favorite is from a coworker who insists that diet soda has the same amount of calories as regular soda because of "how the liver processes it"

the better question is, why do you so vehemently insist on drinking soda?
it has no benefits and will destroy your teeth.

Been at a machine gym for 2 months haven't gotten much accomplished, was only going twice a week because of 12 hour workdays and overtime. Did improve my running from going 1 mile to 2 miles per sesh though and went from 85 to 40 on the pullup assist weight. Also dropped 185lbs to 178. My body shape literally did not change at all except my stomach seems to be less dense when I poke it now.

Got a new membership at freeweight gym last week on my 2nd week of 5x5 stronglifts, going 6 times a week starting now with 3 of those being cardio. 145 squat 95 bench 85 rows 55 OHP 145 deadlifts so far.

Bruh, boil a pan of water, dump some soy sauce in it, just a bit, you can put in a slice of lemon instead for a different tinge of flavor. Take your broccoli and a pour a little bit oil, dont drown it, just enough so that you can season it with pepper, salt, and garlic powder. Mix it all up. When the water is boiling put the broccoli in a metal strainer, put that it the pot and cover the strainer with a lid. Turn the heat down to medium and leave it for 5-7 mins.

Perfect broccoli everytime.

Major props to your will power. I've lost 140 pounds and still have problems resisting temptations when there's garbage around the house. Luckily I really only have issues when I smoke weed and the munchies take over, but I dont smoke as much as I used to anymore. Now the only things that really test me are when there's some decent bread lying around the house. I try to stay away from bread as much as possible because I destroy that shit no problem.

I've got a friend who has a way of getting under my skin and I fucking love that not only do I weigh less than him, but he's now the fattest dude in our group of friends. I used to be the butt of the fat jokes and genuinely didnt mind, I love my friends and none of it was mean spirited, but he was still a fat fuck and would be the one to make the most jokes about my weight, sometimes to the point where it was clearly past lighthearted jabs. Everytime I see him I relish the fact that he cant say a single thing about my weight.

There's one simple thing you can do
>>
>>42111878
try starting tomorrow. don't focus on eating healthier foods at first, just start calorie counting so you get a feel for it. try 3 days with a 2500kcal limit, then another few days at 2000 then whenever you're ready hit your actual calorie goal for cutting.
i've found this site gives me the most accurate TDEE and cutting goals.
http://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html

i'm still just cico cutting 4 months in and haven't fully switched to a healthy diet.

I should be under 200 by now. I haven't lost anything. I gained 5lb. Is it over? I can't go back to being even fatter. But my metabolism is slowing down or something. Or maybe I'm snacking more than I think, I don't know. I'm afraid to use MFP again.

>I'm afraid to MFP again

I think I figured it the mystery of your gaining weight
>>
>>42112521
I think I did too.

I ate Jimmy Johns and an entire pizza in one day and gained five pounds of food weight and probably tomorrow or the next day I'll be back at 210 (I was already back at 212 today)
>>
>>42112531
Then why did you post as if you didn't know?

Close to bedtime, I'm on Keto, lost 13 lbs, am 4 pounds from my goal and I just ate an entire mango, how fucked am I?
>>
>>42112557
because I still haven't lost anything in the past month and im real sad about that even though im a lot slimmer and looking good.
>>
>>42112599
Do you think you are actually fucked for some reason, or do you just want someone to tell you it's no big deal you fucked up?

You're 4 pounds from goal and weight fluctuates. What's the problem?
