Using the simple TDEE calculator, being 6.2, about 290 pounds, age 27, currently doing little to no exercise though that will be changing, my TDEE is 3154. I also have hypothyroidism and hypogonadism which I mentioned in the last thread. I'm on treatment for both and I'm curious how this affects my weight loss/gain. In the past I've done an a 1000 calorie deficit and the progress was honestly slower than I imagined. Is this due to my conditions? Or perhaps I'm an idiot and wasn't at the caloric deficit that I thought I was? Honestly if I were to consume about 2000 calories a day and burned a few hundred calories a few times a week, I'd be able to lose about 15 pounds a month, even with my conditions?
>>
>>41986474
>15 pounds a month
That is too fast and in the past you were eating more than you thought. Log in my fitness pal and weigh all your food. Beyond that expect to lose maybe 6 pounds a month after the first month of quick loss.

do a three day water fast and lose like 10 pounds. it'll reset your appetite by shrinking your stomach, and detoxify the dumpster that is your internal body. only the first day is difficult, hunger dissolves completely after 24 hours. By the second day you feel like a superhero- mental sharpness, vivid thoughts, energy, cool stuff. good luck.

Not making it.
If you cut too much calories you will feel like shit and have no energy to work out and only lose muscle mass.
>>
>>41986623
nothing super substantial, there are a slew of conditions you can develop through chronically under eating. If you are fat enough, it doesn't matter though, the weight loss is absolutely more important than any of those conditions that can develop.

Almost all of them are reversed by eating at your TDEE for a week.

muscle loss, fatigue, sleeplessness, bone density loss, acid reflux, which leads to ulcers.

there's quite a lot.

that being said, there is a study floating around where a guy loses over 250 lbs in a year by not eating (while being fed certain vitamins to not die), so take those conditions with a grain of salt as we do live in a world where people make money from you eating food.
>>

6 months of a 1000 calorie deficit with protein in every meal can't be that bad for your muscle mass, r-right?

>>
>>41986766
it absolutely can. above 25%bf or so, you don't have to worry about losing lbm when dieting harshly. between 16 and 25%, you'll lose muscle mass but not drastically. at or below 15% is when muscle mass takes a big hit when you're in a steep deficit, because your body does not have a whole lot of energy reserved for such an occasion.

This thread has been very helpful and motivating since I found it today, thanks a bunch guys. One more stupid question about losing weight "too" fast. My goal is to lose about 65 pounds and I want to do it in 6 months. When I reach my goal in this time, will I have issues with loose skin or is that nonsense? Would I not have issues with loose skin if I were to lose 60 pounds in a year instead?

If you did a 500 kcal deficit, it would take you twice as long to lose the weight, so over the long term, it really depends on whether you're better off losing weight in 6 months, and then building muscle normally for the next 6 months, or losing weight for 12 months.

What is your plan to reach those goals? What will you actually be doing?

20 pounds in a month is pretty high, unless you are very overweight. Healthy weight loss is usually targeting 2 pounds max per week. But if you are very overweight, you can afford to lose more at the beginning.

Any advice for working around injuries? I picked up a hip injury from playing sports.

Legs are out of the question and i think things like OHP and Benchpress would't work cos it aggravates my hip when I breathe in and brace my core. This also makes me think chins/pullups would be an issue because of the core aspect.

yes, but you'd have to average ~1.75lbs per week (.8kg) to do so, which would mean a ~900 calorie deficit. if you work out 3x a week, your tdee should be ~3100, so 2200 should be your goal
>>

and they wreck their physical and mental health in the process. 1-2% of bodyweight per week is the limit, faggot. don't fucking kill yourself out of insecurity.
lose weight slowly, work out regularly, and learn some fucking patience. you'll only end up quitting half way through, binging for weeks, and ending up fatter than you started. the reason fatties fail diets so often is because they try to do everything all at once so they can have their goal bod in a few months.
you're in the beginning stages of a horrible cycle that will only make you more fat and miserable
>>
>>41987246
>I eat 400 cals a day

That's it? That's your whole plan? That's an awful plan.

You are just in a crash diet. Those fail all the time for a good reason. Up your calories to a sustainable level, start exercising in a way you enjoy, and be comfortable with slower weight loss.

I know everyone who decides to lose weight wants to do it fast, but you have to learn to keep it off. That's hard work, and it's better to learn at you go then struggle after you feel like the hard part is over.

>>
>>41987246
I'm assuming you're 5'5 and 20 years old.
So you're BMR is about 1660
If you ate 400 cals a day (which would be nearly impossible to keep up every day for 3 months; you can also completely forget about exercising with that little fuel too) You'd have a defecit of 1200 a day.

There are 3500 calories in a pound, so you'd lose about 1 pound every 3 days.

You want to lose 45 pounds in 3 months (which is 90 days), so you'd need to lose a pound every single day

It's pretty much physically impossible for you to do, and you'd feel like complete shit

I walk 6 to 10 miles a day every day, without fail. I'm not going to get swole doing that, but I'm absolutely losing weight.

Find exercise you like ,that's the most important part. Strength training is important especially for us fatties, but it isn't the only meaningful exercise despite how /fit/ talks about it.

>is there anyway to incorporate meaningful exercise at home? idk if i'll have access to a proper gym in the coming months.
absolutely. if you're a total beginner, simple bodyweight workouts will work well. i'd highly suggest a pull up bar and an ab wheel, but other than that you don't need much at first.
i'd suggest doing yoga and/or cardio in the morning. fasted cardio is the GOAT for weight loss in a lot of people, and yoga will work on your ab strength/stability, flexibility/mobility, and can be a diagnostic measure for muscular imbalances.
something like 30-45mins of LISS cardio a day + yoga and abs every day, and alternating between lower and upper body calisthenics, would be a good idea imo. you'll stay active and work on your weaknesses without the need for equipment. however, if you don't want to get into absurd variations you're gonna want to start lifting within 6 months

I'm a guy but when I was 19 I did that. I was 250 and I wanted to get down to 175 ASAP. I practically starved myself and would binge eat every few days.

I felt like shit, irritable, and fatigue for a year, and I managed to reach my goal weight, but it only amounted to about 1 pound/week lost, which I could've achieved a LOT more smoothly if I had just dieted properly

This also led to me just putting on all that weight again because weight loss/maintenance is a LIFE style change, you have to change your LIFE, which crash dieting did not teach me.

Everyone is trying to lose more, my friend. I just bracket it at 20 for 'attainable goals' so that people don't get discouraged.

Once you lose that first 20 lbs, then I give you a gold star and we update for the next 20.

Was doing a good job of hovering around 1400 for the last few days until today: a ham, salami and tomato-basil chedder sandwich on garlic tuscan bread with 1 oz of wavy chips for lunch, followed by two pieces of uncured pork sausage and 2.5 ears of buttered corn for dinner. Oh, and a chocolate mint cookie.

Total: 1753 calories.

>I usually stick to 400
likely bullshit, if true it's unsustainable for very long.
>I have self control
then how'd you get fat in the first place, hun? you're gonna end up hungry as fuck and going back to old habits. the vast, vast majority of people who do what you're doing do just that.
>I know about nutrition so maintenance won't be hard
there are tons of fat fucks here that could ramble for hours about proper form, exercise selection, and diet. and yet most people here are still fucking fat. there's a huge difference between knowledge and application, and the more severely you change your lifestyle the harder it will be to stick to a diet. again, you're dieting. a crash diet at that. if you really knew what you were doing, you'd understand that excessive restriction reinforces a bad relationship with food, as well as reducing recovery ability drastically, and the only long term effective solution is a change in lifestyle.
>My TDEE is very close to 2k calorie
then you should be eating 1000 calories at a minimum, ideally 1400-1600
>Nothing is impossible. Why speak failure into existence?
pic. fucking. related. you're on an idiotic crash course that ends in failure more than 95% of the time. fatties like to play mindgames with themselves.
>i've been eating so little, today's a good day to cheat
>oh, what the hell. i've been working out so much and eating so little a little bit of X won't hurt
and soon enough you're eating full fat food, drinking sugary/calorie ridden beverages, and getting fatter. it's a slippery slope, but one that ends in the same place for almost everyone.

It's not that people are trying to convince you that you will fail, a lot of us have been there while trying to lose weight. There are tons of discussions about people eating at insanely low numbers and they all discourage it, myself included. It's not a race, it's a life style change. We don't want people to give up, we want you to make it just not by killing yourself in the process. Even if you lose half of what you want to in that time, it's still impressive and still something to be proud of.

this is what fatties actually believe. you're forgetting about BMR, which is what your body requires to keep all your internal organs functioning. extreme dieting can fuck with your blood pressure, dehydrate you, slow/damage internal organs, reduce muscle mass, and cause extreme fatigue. it DOES matter how much under your tdee you eat, because too much of a deficit makes people miserable. you'd know this if you knew a goddamn thing about nutrition.

You're going to suffer hard if you go through your diet. We're not saying that youre gonna fail losing weight, we're saying you're missing the bigger picture of weight loss which is being healthier not just thinner. That's what we mean by it being a "life style change". You will still have an unhealthy relationship with food, it's the same one that caused you to gain weight and get /fat/. You have to reevaluate what you put in your body, eating healthier foods, eating the correct foods, learning to avoid snacking, etc, not just restricting to see numbers go down on a scale. Getting an eating disorder isn't something you should just brush off as no big deal. You go through with this and you're going to come off worse in the long run. Pls think this through, anon.
>>
>>41987975

pushups until failure
calf raises 30x3
bodyweight squats 15x3
dumbell durls 15x3
crunches until failure
glute bridges 20 seconds x 3
lunges 15x3
wide grip pullup negatives x10 (band assisted)
close grip pullup negatives x10 (band assisted)
chin up x10 (band assisted)
dumbell flyes 3x15
dips 3x15
bench 2x15

((I have no idea what i'm doing))

followed by like 20 minutes of stretching.
gonna have to stop doing legs/core for a while though because my doctor says I've got a hernia(right where my groin area meets my leg). So RIP any gains i was gonna make.

People like that were a big inspiration to me to lose weight actually. In one of my big college lecture classes there was always this really chubby girl who sat a few rows in front of/below me and she always came late with food. She would push her way through to the center of the aisle with a bag of fast food or some trash and just feast in the middle of class while everyone else is trying to take notes.

This one day I remember she came through with a bag of tim hortons donuts and a seemingly unrelated cupcake. She literally shoved the cupcake into her mouth and was chewing it viciously as she came down through the aisle. Pushing her fat into everyones faces before sitting down and opening the bag of donuts. I'll never forget the frosting smeared on her face as she plowed through those poor victims. Thank the good lord she was not in my aisle.

Don't listen to the anon who told you that your TDEE is 3100 because you exercise 3 times a week; that is absolute garbage. I know this because I'm an inch taller than you and I started out 2 kilos heavier. Set your lifestyle to sedentary, and calculate your TDEE based on that. It should be around 2200-2400 max. Also, don't eat back your workouts, e.g. if you supposedly burned 400 kcal through working out, don't eat 400 additional calories that day. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't exercise though, just don't count it in your TDEE.

hell, some guys are relatively skinny but have TDEEs above 4000 because they work a manual labor job. i was using a calculator that consistently works with thousands of people, not just one person.
if he wasn't losing weight at the predicted rate, then calories simply get lowered.

There's no magic exercise for this, so at the end of the day, you're still gonna have to consciously keep your posture straight during the day. That doesn't mean exercise isn't beneficial though, look up forward head and kyphosis fix on youtube.

Find it hard to believe you accidently axed all your carbs to point of keto. Some good carbs would be:

Fruit
Rice
Root veggies.

/Keto/ is just a fancy way to be at a calorie deficit.
>>
>>41988608
I did exercise 3-4 times a week (1 hour of biking). And the calculator isn't consistent either. For starters, there is a difference of ~150 kcals between the different values calculated using different methods (if you use the one that uses different approximations), so it's not the most accurate thing ever, and we have someone every few threads who wonders why they don't lose weight, even though they ate 500 kcals below the ridiculous numbers given by the calculator when they didn't use the sedentary setting. And there's also the fact that he should be on a 200 kcal deficit compared to his normal TDEE, so compared to what he normally eats, which is pretty much within the margin of error of the calculator and of the calorie measurements a person can do at home, so you're basically suggesting that he should be able to lose weight ~1.5 times faster than most people essentially through exercising 3 times a week. And let's not even mention that you can only get 3100 for his TDEE if you set his lifestyle to "moderately active (exercise 4-5 times a week)", which is incorrect, and then look at the highest estimate. If anyone's an outlier here, it's you.
>>
>>41986615
I've been hovering near it because I'm low carb, because I've got diabeetus type 2.

>>41988693
Except that keto doesn't imply a calorie deficit inherently, it's just a very strict very low carb diet.

Most people in it in the context of weight loss would be at a deficit, of course.
>>
>>41988693
how does eating only fat/protein = calorie deficit?

There is documented benefits to discarding carbs that has nothing to do with weight. In fact, the only biological detriment to eating that way, and it's that meat eventually causes cancer, supposedly.

I'm pretty sure loose skin is only a thing for really fat people. And for them it's unavoidable. As for the time you want to lose the weight in, it depends on if you're willing to cut 500 calories a day, or 1000.

Currently down between 25 to 35 lbs (don't know what my high was, somewhere between 305 and 315)

Currently sitting at 6'1, 280 lbs, 35% body fat. Hoping to get to 220 by February - March which will put me at 18% bodyfat.

I finally broke my sugar and carb addiction. I had one of those moments when I completely disregarded one of my old favorite snacks because I looked at the nutrition facts. Feels good.

Remember that fasting is your friend. Concentrate all your eating in at most one or two planned meals a day for intermittent fasts.

Tips:

-Drink water frequently. It'll help you purge toxins from your metabolism.
-Don't tell anybody you're fasting if they're not supportive.
-Keep it to intermittent (picture) or 24 hour fasts at most the first times you do it.
-Ignore the retards who know nothing and haven't even tried it but will talk shit of it.

I've been doing keto with intermittent fasting methodology--eating only one (800-1000kcal) meal per 24 hours, and keeping carbs around 20g. The main benefit of my method is keeping insulin out of my blood stream 23 hours per day. Expedites the fat utilization. All the glucose I need is synthesized de novo in the liver from excess amino acids. Combined with a once-per-day morning caffeine stimulus. I've been losing 1.2-1.5 lbs per day, and I'm on my 11th day. Down 20 lbs (first 5 were water weight), with 20 more to go. No loss in muscle mass (that's an unsubstantiated myth). No severe hunger--only get hungry an hour or two before eating time. No energy shortages. Once I've lost the fat I've been needing to get rid of I'm going to readjust my diet back to around 2000 calories and focus on gains, but will still keep the sugars under 50g.

Defeating the sugar-addiction is by far the hardest part of doing anything keto-related. You really don't need to eat sugar because the liver makes its own as long as you are getting good protein intake. Lower sugar intake = lower insulin levels over time = less fat storage and more rapid fat utilization.

>>41989159
Well I stick out my stomach very very hard so it looks like I am fat, then just take a regular picture. This tournament should be very easy to win.
>>
>>41989148
Interesting. I'm military unfortunately, so not eating that long prolongs muscular recovery time, which is not good when it comes to heart health (running a lot). I eat from 12pm to 8pm @ 1200-1800 calories. I'm a very large guy, so that's still a very big deficit not including the daily activity.

Hope your cut works out.
>>
>>41988999
I prefer the daily weigh. It feels so good to wake up and find a pound vanishes. But ya those days where you do everything right and still gain are tough.
>>
>>41989191
Thanks. It is worth noting that I am not doing highly demanding physical activity at this time. I would likely need to eat more to satisfy those demands.
>>
>>41989149
Thanks for running this tournament.
>>
>>41989231
>you do everything right and still gain are tough.
If you stuck to your deficit there is no way you gained any weight that isn't water weight or just a giant shit. Don't stress it

But I also weigh myself daily. I only record my weeklies though
>>
>>41989258
Yeah that's what I figured. I can't get away with a 23 hour fast, even if I wanted to. I've tried a much more stringent fast and I nearly crashed from being tired while driving.

16 hours is plenty fasting though, I usually lose about 1lb a day this way.

Ok so my TDEE is 2,300 and a calorie is made up of 3,500 calories right? So if I wanted to lose a pound in the course of three days I would simply have to take my TDEE for three days (6,900) and subtract 3,500 from it (3,400) and only eat that much over the course of three days right? Is it really that simple?
>>
>>41989329
obviously meant to say a POUND is made up of 3,500 calories.
>>
>>41989155
>>41989301

Not to be rude but I think you guys should weigh in every day or at least every other day. Our bodies will fluctuate here and there so you run the risk of having your weigh in fall on a day where you have a bit more water weight or a bunch of food that you haven't shit out yet.
>>
>>41989329
Essentially. That's why you often see people suggest eating at TDEE - 500 calories, over the course of a week that's a pound. With decent exercise you hit 1.5-2 pounds a week pretty easy.

>>41989351
Body weight is in constant flux, it's going to change day to day. Unless you want to take an average, there isn't really much point in monitoring daily. Whenever you see a number on a scale, it should be obvious it isn't going to stay at that exact number for very long.
>>
>>41989329
I mean, your scale probably won't magically drop down exactly 3.0lbs 72 hours later. But yes, you have the right idea.

Just cut 1,000cal from your tdee and you'll lose roughly 2lbs per week or only 500cal to lose 1lb a week. No need to get THAT specific with it.

Oh i see, nice.
Are you doing all the work by yourself or is there someone helping you?
>>
>>41990334
Just me. I haven't seen Fasting Anon around but I need to talk to her about contest management. I don't have to leave until October now, so I reckon I'll just keep on it until then.

I ate 2800 calories today instead of 2300. Im still gonna make it. 2300 forever
>>
I'm down to 215 from 380.really struggling to stick with it. Going through a lot of personal shit. On work days it's fine, I stick to my diet but on days im home alone with my thoughts I can't help myself.
>>
>>41990342
Oh wow, i saw one post of yours a while ago saying you will hand over the contest to someone else. So that someone else still isn't here
>>
>>41990480
Yeah, I thought I was going to basic a lot sooner but I ended up getting delayed for my chosen career. All good though, more time to train.
>>
1000 calories a day isn't that bad.
>>
Hey /fat/, I have 445 calories left for the day but it's almost time to get in bed. Should I eat anything else? My goal is 2k.
>>
>>41990634
Just save it for a bigger meal tomorrow.
>>
>>41990617
I've been on 1200/day and doing cardio and 1500/day when I do more rigorous workouts. It's honestly not too bad. I get mood swings on occasion though when my nutrition is bad

My main worry is losing too much muscle. I guess I'll just have to buy more chicken.

I'll save a true update for the next thread, but Kiko clenched it for the week in both Percentage Lost and Pounds Lost.

With all the people on notice who dropped out we need to fill 9 slots in the contest for a full tournament bracket so if anyone is interested I'll keep cracking away at this until Sunday and hopefully get all of it filled up and ready. Just ensure that you're serious about participating and ready to put the work in. As of right now we have...

3 participants left from Week 1
2 participants left from Week 2
2 participants left from Week 3
8 participants left from Week 4
1 participant left from Week 5
2 participants left from Week 6
1 participant left from Week 7
4 participants left from Week 8

and 47 people in the /fat/ quitters section. Only 2 of which actually formally withdrew, the rest just didn't show up.

Everyone who's active and participates, thank you. Sincerely. This is a labor of love and I'm glad a lot of you are seeing positive results and we're seeing great people participate and help others in this thread.

People who are quitting that are still lurking... this isn't a cure all. This contest won't keep you on the proper course, its just a tracker for your own journey. Make sure that you're ready to dedicate yourself to the lifestyle change. You're going to bounce around a lot, god knows I have, but you gotta keep in the saddle.

Life happens. I ain't gonna pretend I know about your situations but just know if you need to shoot the shit or talk about it, hit us up. This is, after all, a community. No shame in struggling. Making it isn't exactly an easy journey when you've never been about that life before.

Anyways. Apple loves ya. Happy cutting, /fat/ties. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Don't listen to the troll, start light from now and work your way up anon that way u Doon look like shit when the weight comes off. I'm at 155~ and fit in medium t's and with a size 32 weist. I plan to drop 10 more lbs and just keep lifting until I can add 5 lbs muscle at which point I'm going to be near the 15% bf and just stay there.

Jormungand here, was going to wait for a new thread since page 10 but anyway.
69.5kg according to the scale. Been sick lately so just haven't had it in me to do anything anymore. Finding my focus being pulled away from weight loss and onto other things. I don't want to give up, but it feels like I'm going to soon.
