Yes but that's including your baseline metabolism/energy expenditure ie what your body uses up just living through the day. You don't have to burn off 1600 through exercise if you've eaten 1500

Is there any remotely accurate way to gauge how many calories you're burning off during exercise? The values mfp and similar give you seem waaaaay exaggerated, like you can go for a 30 minute walk and that's hundreds burned etc.

I ate 1000 kcal a day for the last 5 days, today I managed just 500 kcal, and I am not losing weight, it doesn't make sense. Plateauing aside, when I eat 1/3 of my TDEE I should lose something. Does anyone have an explanation? I'm not having memory gaps either that might cover up secret eating, as I simply don't have the food supplies.
>inb4 stop starving yourself
>>
>>41975786
Your a dumb bitch if you are doing 400 calories a day. Your TDEE is closer to 1650.
>>
>>41975807
Water weight maybe?
>>
>>41975781
listen anon, I'm going to save you at least a couple weeks of figuring this shit out by yourself and give it to you straight. A man your weight can do fine with 1500 calories a day. That's a 1400 calories deficit, and it'll get you at least down two pounds a week, even more while losing waterweight.
If you wanna ease into it, sure go down progressively with your calorie deficit, but in the end you'll have to increase it as your TDEE will lower as you become leaner.
So better start now and make quick progress of the first fifty pounds. Just my two cents.
>>
>>41975807
Just don't eat

I'm not even counting exercise, I aim for 1800 kcals, MFP recommends 2100.
Here's my listing for today:
3 large eggs (~210 kcal)
2 tbsp of mustard
2 slices of whole grain high-fiber bread (200 kcal)
10g of margarine (35 kcal)
2 cups of vinegar cucumber salad (literally just cucumbers, pepper, salt, water, vinegar, 32 kcal)
2 liters of water
>>
>>41975786
hey anonette, I'm 5'5 and I eat about 800 calories on average daily (goes from 600 to 1000 from day to days). My TDEE is 1544, so
I average a 744 calorie deficit. I don't know what your stats are so I wouldn't be able to tell you what is a reasonable deficit for you, but it for sure doesn't equate to eating only 400 calories a day. You're going to fuck your shit up, metabolism, nervous system, endocrine system just because you want a quick fix to your mistake. Just own up to it and do it the right way.

I only eat once a day though (OMAD+23:1), keeps me disciplined and I feel full and content after my meal, up until the same hour the next day.
As some anon said in a precedent thread, I think it's better to eat one big feast a day, like a warrior, than to have three holocaust survival rations throughout the day (+it triggers insulin spikes and thus insulin resistance, diabetes as opposed to fasting). Try it if you're not already doing it.
>>
>>41975905
i'm not talking muscle sparring, i'm simply asking if after losing weight on keto, if i suddenly amp my carbs will i get back not only the water weight, but also a bit of fat even if i'm still on a deficit

basically i want to know if i need a refeed period
>>
>>41975807
If you're undereating by 2000kcal a day in 5 days you could potentially lose 2.87 lbs fat.

You're weight fluctuates on more than just body fat though. So you can gain water weight, or have more pee pee and poo poo, food in your stomach, or cancerous tumor.
>>
Im trying real hard here fit, lost 27kg since feburary.

>>
>>41975970
look anon, not the guy you're replying to, but I'm gonna share personal experience.
I did do lowcarb for a while, and when I did my first carb refeed in the process of transitioning to eating a higher dose of carbs, I gained back water weight. I think I gained about 1.5kg in the day after the refeed, and it took me a week to shed it back. Then when I started eating a higher dose of carbs on a daily basis, I suspect I gained a bit more water weight (I was still on deficit, so it couldn't have been fat). Maybe 1.1kg more. I got rid of it in 10 days and went back to losing fat on moderate carb now.

everyone can understand I am talking about type 2 here, I specifically said it after mentioning that "the triggering of insulin spikes, [causing] insulin resistance, [causes] diabetes". It was just a logical development in the sentence that would make it clear which type I am talking about.

>spreads misinformation that diabetes could be avoidable
Wrong. I'm doing the exact opposite. Spreading information on the fact that it is avoidable. For type 2 obviously. It's not because you have been doomed with type 1 that you should censor all information on the topic of diabetes just because it triggers you to hear there is hope for other people. Have some human decency.

I just think he could use some help.
He's a great man, I want to be a caring girlfriend.
He fulfills his duties as the man in the relationship, and is dedicated a lot into work.
He's an adult on all fronts, except perhaps his views on nutrition and health.
I think I can at least ease him into it by making him good meals for a couple months, then maybe as he sees the results coming, he'll agree to do it himself. I think I owe him that because he's been there to support me through my weight loss.

My boyfriend...well he's a man. so he's reasonable. He doesn't count his calories or macros, but he lets me know when he eats or drinks something, even if it's junk. He holds himself accountable so I think there is leeway to improve his relationship with food.
Thanks for your concern though, I appreciate you looking out for me, after what you experienced.
>>
>>41976224
You'd be surprised at the amount of people that suggest I can reverse my T1. I feel this is down to people generalising it to just "diabetes". I did not say it needed to be censored at all, I'm not sure where you read that in my post. I said that you should specify what type you mean.

Insulin resistance is also an important aspect in type 1, it's not specific to type 2. They are important for different reasons though.

It's okay if you want to get defensive, I understand you feel you know a lot on the subject. I just want you to understand why it's frustrating for T1s.

Joined a gym yesterday.

A staff member showed me squats and bench press. They were difficult but I did OK.

He said deadlifts would be too difficult so he showed me barbell rows instead, but I couldn't get the proper form. He recommended machine seated rows instead.

I don't need to progress at a fast pace. Will that help me with form? Before I start increasing weight I want to make sure I'm lifting correctly so I don't fuck anything up.
>>
>>41976355
Well anon, I understand there are general misconceptions about type 1 diabetes, especially the shams of reversing it. I'm familiar with it, albeit none too much with the scientific explanations.

I think you should understand where I am coming from too, as an advocate for health too.
I am also sick of hearing the complacent masses of overweight and obese people talk about diabetes as if it could never be prevented or treated with the simplest change of lifestyle.

So of course, I'll take you up on your words and try and make a clarification too when you say that I am "spreading misinformation that diabetes could be avoidable".
Why don't you specify which type, yourself? Because type 2 is avoidable. So enough with double standards.
I'd rather educate people here on the fact that there is hope and potential for reversal, than to concede into the general pseudoscience atmosphere of fat acceptance, and the normalization of the various diseases and conditions associated with it.
I hope you see the other side of this coin.
It's only a question of principle if people like me come up on the defense when someone tries to justify their environmental disease on genetics, because it's an enabler mentality that is harmful to our society. So I feel like I should always step up to the challenge if someone discredits a scientific piece of evidence regarding health.
But this is a dialogue of deaf people: clearly you wanted to make a point about your experience with T1, whereas I was more interested in signaling the dangers of T2 complacence.
>>
>>41976061
are you me? My gf does that shit all the time. I'm convinced she just wants me to stay fat so she doesn't have to take care of herself
>>
>>41976440
what I do is skip lunch and breakfast and have dinner early.

like water fast all day, and have your dinner about 5-6 hours before bed. So if you go to bed around 11 pm, have dinner around 5:30 to 6 pm.

Then you can have a protien shake if you want before bed.

It makes it super easy to be full on 1500 or less calories, since you can have one big meal.

I try to go for 200 carbs, 150 protien, 50 fat.

which ends up being around 1850 calories.

If you eat "healthy' aka less fat( 10-20 grams) you can average around 1500 easily.
>>
>>41976483
deadlifts aren't difficult. Just start very light. Machine seated rows will work the same muscle, but as with all rowing exercises, your limiting muscle will be your arms. You need strong biceps to row heavy weight.

with deadlifts, your arms are completely out of the equation, you are basically picking up the weight with your back and hamstrings.

Be careful with deadlifts, you don't want to slip a disk and go to snap city.
>>
>>41976224
>everyone can understand I'm talking about type 2 here

As a recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic, I assure you that isn't true. I've had to explain quite a bit as I told people about my condition, and it's clear that although most people know there are 1 types they absolutely do not know the differences between them. I didn't either, until I got diagnosed.
>>
>>41976483
Flexibility is probably your biggest hurdle to proper form. Stretch a lot every work out.
>>

I didn't specify a type in that one sentence due to quoting you using the generalising term. That's why I said a sentence after it saying "this is limited to specific types". Not just T2 but also gestational or steroid diabetes. Potentially more as we uncover new types.

Good call. I stretch legs fairly regularly because i walk a lot, but what stretches are good for barbell work like squats and rows?
>>
>>41976552
Hamstrings. I stretch them twice whenever I'm going to do squats, first one leg out at a time leaning forward and standing bent at the waste right before the lift.
>>
>>41976173
yeah for some reason normies believe that exercise is way more important than diet. I have a friend who claims you can eat whatever you want as much as you want, as long as "you exercise for 30 mins at least three times a week"

Exercise is a pain, but everybody knows it's good for you.

Its much harder to change your diet, and harder than that to really pay attention to what you are eating.

My stomach hurt a bit so I decided not to go running. I then proceeded to eat two sandwiches, which fucked up my deficit today. I usually have a day where I eat normally every week anyway, as I'm on a fairly low calorie diet (nothing insane like sub-1000 kcals tho) and I exercise too, so all in all it's not a huge problem, I'm just mad because it wasn't planned, I just gave in.

Hi /fat/, I'm slacking on the exercice but my eating habits / calorie intake is on deck.

I dont exercice as much because I hired a trainer and she is making me do these fucking meme cardio exercices that makes me hate working out, as opposed to glorious strength training.

I find it hard to motivate myself to go... there is no reliable scale at the gym.
I think it would be easier to track my progress if I had a scale.

Could you guys recommend me an accurate scale that can go up to over 320 lbs and isnt too expensive? My budget is probably 100-150$ CAD

My last weigh in was 320 lbs, but my dad is about 360 and im trying to get him to lose weight, so if theres one that allows such weight it would be nice too.

Thanks

Your mistake is finding the wrong trainer.

Tell her what you want - no cardio memes, you want to lift. She should support what *YOU, HER CLIENT* wants. If she doesn't want to do that, then fire her and get another one.
>>
>>41977471
I'm 2 pounds lighter than you at the same height, but I have no trouble losing weight. I do OMAD 5 days a week and my calorie intake is between 1000-1500 on those day, plus I do cardio 4 times a week. If you are mostly concerned about fat in one area in your body, e.g. your stomach, you probably don't see differences because you lose weight from other parts too. I have a lot of fat on the back of my thighs below my butt, for example.
>>
>>41978073
>I don't exercise as much because...

Bullshit.

You know the exercise you want. Start doing it. If your trainer isn't helping you do what you want fire them. If you aren't interested in cardio, don't do it.

You know you want strength training. Do that.

>>
>>41978073
>I don't want to do these exercises because <insert excuses here>
Very nice mentality anon, definitely gonna make it. She probably makes you do "meme" cardio exercises because you can't do the usual ones because of the high risk of injury due to you weighing 320+ lbs. Also, cardio burns more calories, so it's probably more beneficial at the current stage of your weight loss, you can worry about lifting once you drop like 50 lbs.
As for the scale, you can probably get any digital one. I once looked up how accurate scales are, and found some random study where they tested different scales and found that the digital ones are fairly accurate, while the mechanical ones are a bit worse, but not too bad. Accuracy isn't even the most important thing, it doesn't matter if your scale is off by 4 pounds as long as it is consistent and you can see your progress over the months. I have a shitty mechanical one, and while it is probably not accurate, it is consistent.
>>
Guys.
I have been exercising a lot. I went from not being able to run a mile to being able to run for 30 minutes continuously. I went from 10 pushups max to 35 pushups in a minute. I don't feel weak or lacking energy, so I don't need any of that energy drink bullshit, after all, I do get a reasonable amount of calories, it's just in one meal. I'm a shutin right now, so I don't have to worry about school, but it's not like I wouldn't be able to sit in a lecture and take notes just because I only eat once when I am perfectly able to do a fair amount of cardio.

Bodyweight routine on weekdays, upper MWF with legs/core T/Th. Mix of walking and running 30-45 minutes per day, weekdays. I work 20-30 hours per week stocking shelves in a grocery store. It's not grueling, but I'm on my feet, standing, walking, squatting, lifting boxes, etc. Because of this and the bodyweight stuff, I put my TDEE on one step above sedentary.

Today I had oatmeal, two eggs scrambled, and a slice of fat free cheese for breakfast, a 2.5oz packet of tuna and 100 calories of cashews for a snack/lunch, ground turkey with black beans, rice, and broccoli for dinner. Oh and now I'm having some vodka with raspberry seltzer water. It all came out to 1400 calories.

There is a minute of silence, then a text-to-speech voice says the # of the run, like "one" or "twelve", then there is a loud beep followed by twenty seconds of a 500 something Herz sine wave, and then another beep marks the end of the sprint. Obviously, it would be harder to extend the rest period when I use an audio track for timing.

I'm on a cut and eat tacos like once or twice a week.

3 large flour tortillas
Red pepper
Onion
1 tbls olive oil
Chicken or costco steak ums

Gets me about 1000 to 1200 calories.

By -900 net calories, that nigga means 900 kcal below TDEE, and not literally burning off all he ate and some more.
>>

oh. net is how many your at after you subtract calories burned. say i eat 500 cals then burn 1000 cals id be at -500 net on mfp. if i eat 1000 then burn 500 id be at 500 net.

For what it's worth, absolutely nobody but you would give a shit.

Also, that would happen once. Anyone jogging or running will blow past you as soon as you go back to walking. There's no way you spring fast enough for such a short period to catch up after a minute of walking.

There's a few near by definitely. The only issue I still lack a lot of personal drive. Yes I can cut calories by cutting intake. I can make myself walk more by parking farther from the store and walking through the entire place. But i joined one of those pay monthly gyms and fell of the band wagon, after the middle of the second month. Kinda wanted to find someone to rove wrong or impress.

this is probably a retarded question but here goes:

what's the consensus on eating below your BMR? I'm 5'5 and 220 lbs. I'm exercising 3 days a week and I walk a lot at work. My TDEE with a 500 cal deficit puts me at 1930 daily. This feels like too much. What would happen if I ate 1700 daily?

You'd lose weight faster. That's more than enough calories to function normally.

I'm your same height and was 220 last month, down to 210 now. I've been eating 1500 or less for weeks now (and exercising for months) with no trouble.

If you start to feel weird or something you can always just up your calories.

Hammerhead curls, but make sure you're pushing your shoulders back and your chest out.
>>
>>41979986
If it's your first three weeks that's normal. If you're real fat that's normal. And if you're not super fat, it's still normal to lose weight in spurts. Don't worry about it unless it turns into something like 50 pounds over 2 months or whatever.

I'm overshooting at 60 and 65 is a good middle ground. I've noticed that the bmi scale is shit since I do look good with clothes on. Just I'm on a mission to be athletic built at ~14% bf because I have some ppl I need to rub it into their face that I can make it. Currently I'm away from uni on vacation, and have a good 2 months B4 I can gym again. So I'm doing bodyweight stuff to keep as much muscle as I can. 10lbs loss is much noticable at a lower weight. So I might be happy with 65 kg...

Ate cheesecake for breakfast... Feel sick. Don't care.

Why???

Been to gym 5 times this week for 2-3 hour sessions. Kitchen is starting to look like preppers with high protein + I bought my first 70% protein powder and shaker.

Don't care about cheesecake breakfast. Haven't bought biscuits in 2 months... No crisps in house... No ice cream in freezer... No sugary drinks in house... No high sugar fruits like strawberries... No sweets... Low carbs in diet... No cereal... just oats.

Friendly reminder that you will lose weight faster if you put on some muscle because your TDEE will be higher. Plus you expend calories to gain muscle... Plus you get stronger. Plus if your scale doesn't move you can be sure your fat is still going down.

Not the person you're replying to, but what are plateaus?

Lets say my TDEE is 3,000 and I switch to 2,500, lose weight, then down to 2,000, then down to 1,500

At a certain point, you can't go any lower, or would you be at a healthy weight before one gets to that point?

>>
>>41980337
If you don't lose any weight after 2 months of eating 1500 calories a day I think it'd be fair to say you are at a 'healthy' weight.

Every time someone here posts that they've plateau'd or are stagnating while eating much less than their TDEE it's one of 3 things.
1. water weight or shit, which will go away after awhile
2. not waiting long enough to see results on the scale, which will go away after awhile
3. They are eating more than they think.

4th ultra rare option. they are gaining muscle at an equal rate of fat loss
