Anyone here ever try jump squats? Should I switch out traditional squats for jumping squats? I'm more interested in overall athleticism as opposed to bodybuilding.
Thoughts on these 2 exercises /fit/?

Use dbs or a trap bar to do them. Much more fluid of a movement this way. Just keep in mind that you're not likely to develop a crazy vertical as there's a large genetic component to it or else everyone who trains explosive movements would have 40+ inch vertical. If you can do power cleans those are ideal due to being able to progress them so much. Or do high pulls instead.
you actually generate less power when you jump squat than when you just do regular jumps. Trap bar jumps and unweighted jumps are much better for power development
