The diet OP is referencing is the Tim Ferris influenced Keto diet.

It involves limiting yourself to less than 30g's of carbs a day except for one day a week in which you overconsume calories and carbs. "Reefeeding". This was a common bodybuilding diet back in the day, with guys like Arnie etc. They repackaged it in the 90's as the Testosterone Diet etc.

But people doing that have to take into account that these guys were lifting heavy weights every day. They would be completely depleted by the time they came to their refeed day.

Technically it's not Ketosis.
It's basically limiting carbs to limit calories, essentially.

Keto is a shit diet though. Very unhealthy. The process of turning protein into energy leaves behind nitrogen and urea (I think, but it releases some other bad chemical) which your body has trouble ridding itself of. Family history is only relevant in certain forms of cancer. An overweight person has something called "insulin resistance". Google it. If they eat their daily caloric intake based all on carbs, they will not lose weight.

its kind of expensive, its really tough the first 3 days but once you get over carb cravings its pretty easy. Going out to eat or socializing is tough and you have to be very vigilant about how much sugar/carbs are in things so you dont get kicked out of ketosis.

I tried keto for a month, not long enough to switch over into ketosis apparently. Things I noticed:

2) Low glycogen levels left my body looking very deflated
3) Even steady state cardio performance suffered, weight lifting numbers dropped across the board

Eventually I realized that I wasn't going to stay on this long term, and that I better stop before I lose my ability to process carbs and then put back on a bunch of weight. Also I love my weightlifting.

Exercise is easy if you have access to the gym. Ignore the stupid treadmills and bicycles. Just go weight-lifting. Your goal isn't to reach a magic number of weights, the goal is to maintain full control of your reps.

You'll see people pumping from starting position and then back at fast rates. The problem is that they use gravity and momentum to aid that quick rate. Which is stupid. Your muscles don't get stronger from outsourcing part of its energy expenditure to forces. So focus on maintaining control. Go forward with full control, go back more slowly. Do them until muscle failure. If you know that the rep you're in is going to be the last of the set, hold the way back as long as possible until you can't hold the weight.

No offense but I find most people with this complaint are incredibly unimaginative when it comes to cooking. Sides are the important thing for variety. You can turn just one simple veg like cauliflower into so many different sides it's ridiculous (from cauli-rice to a creamy mash to being slowly sauteed in butter to cauli-cheese to cauli-gnocci and on and on). Learn those then learn 7-8 slow cooked cheap cut meat/offal dishes, 3-5 salads, a few different veg stir-fries and mix them up with the usual odd steak or chicken breast and you've way more variety than nearly anyone eating normal shit.
There's also a shit tonne of keto deserts you can make like keto mud cake and keto cheese cake.
