Theres one thing Ive always done, and why people ask why I havent been injured after competing in powerlifting for a decade.

I can safely say after myself and others have run sheiko, you need to change it up every now and then. I do dietmar for a deload phase so I can get some variety and count the volume and intensity so I know Im actually deloading.

It probably takes some lifters a considerable amount of time to actually be able to compete without wasting their time.

Powerlifting is super technical and a lot of lifters start from a 'bodybuilding, wish i was phil heath' mindset... which is very different.

So they creep and claim to PL, look around for programs, try shit in their commercial gyms, etc.

then learn from the failure, find out what you need to change. ANY routine can be edited to make you progress within reason. I laugh at people complaining about 531 low frequency just like people who say SS has no arm accessories

In the early 1970s, the Dynamo Club in the former Soviet Union had 70 highly skilled Olympic lifters. Think about it if you read only one book, no matter how many times you read it, you will only learn so much. If you only squat, you will get only so strong because no new stimulus is introduced. This may not happen in the early stages of training, but as you become more advanced, you will need a more strenuous method of training. Let me establish I am against the idea of cookie cutter routines

whether you like it or not, people of different somatypes and genetics (which I test my clients for) may contribute to changing the routine. The beginning phase starts at high volume low rep and builds into low rep high intensity that mimicks the same 3x5/5x5 progression SS does. I just add more variation. I am not saying that somatypes will restrict a clients ability to do lifts or in differing frequencies. If you have short arms, bench frequency ^ sounds logical, but some people cannot respond to it just yet. It takes failure to see what does not work sometimes.


a beginner client would probably do less variation to be honest.

heres one example

female looking to compete
27 years old
squat is 265 lbs, bench is 165 and deadlift is 325

she has short arms
her bench is 2x a week
at 3x, she was never able to recover or perform

EMG tests on her muscles showed her triceps were lacking in activation at 80% plus nut not below

I'm lifting piddly weight for squats since I'm always worried about this but it's happening for like 255lbs.
