Thinking about competing in a USPA meet on March 25th. Seems like the closest meet in my area, bit unsure about the registration/ entry fee though. Don't want to waste money cause I'm poor but I want to still compete and see if power lifting is something I would enjoy. I need to buy a new belt and get me a singlet though. First meet tips:
- Hydration is pretty important. I just use salted water, but most people take Gatorade or something.
- Bring food. Meets take a long time, so have something to eat that's easy for you to digest.
- Set conservative openers. It's easier to make a big jump between your first and second attempts than it is to deal with an overestimated first.
- Don't bother cutting for your first meet. If you're not making a total that's going to get you something (qualifying, placing, whatever), which you probably won't on your first meet, then it just adds complexity to the process. Baby steps.
- Talk to the other lifters. You can learn a lot from them.

OK guys, here it goes, take 2 at getting strong

I stopped powerlifting a few months ago when i moved, i didn't work out for a few months, and then went pretty casually and did some meme shit as i cut, pic related, i actually look better even though i'm weaker

I never got to my strength goals in the year i spent power lifting, but considering how weak i was and that i had a horrendous back injury at the start that's not too surprising

But this year, this is the year i will hit my goals

my all time 1rm bench is 86kg, that's gone down to 82kg right now

my all time 1rm squat is 130kg, that's gone down to 115kg

my all time deadlift was 165kg, that's down to 155kg.

at the same time i went from 82kg to 76kg, now i'm back to 77.5kg as i started to eat more protein

so over the next 11 months i need to add 18kg to my bench, 25kg to my squat, and 25kg to my deadlift in order to get to my 1st goal of 1/2/3/4, and then i'll work on my 2nd goal of a 1000lb total

This isn't as big as what i did in my first year, where i went from a 1rm bench of 35kg, a 1rm squat of 45kg and a 1rm deadlift of 50kg to my best old numbers above.

Right now my upper back feels like shit from barbell rows yesterday, so i'll sleep on the floor tonight and begin my new program tomorrow, unless the gym is closed for the holidays, and if it is i'll start my new program the first day it reopens

I hope you don't mind me posting updates, if you really do i'll post them with my trip so you can filter me if i really bother you

I started with SL5x5, somehow i did some variation of it going 6 days a week and doing less volume per day, i think i also did a 5 day texas method at some point, but i was trying to get away form my parents at the time, if i was in the house they would yell at me constantly.

and at some point did the P2W true novice program and it really got me to my strongest

I tried SL5x5 this week, and honestly i remember why i stopped, fuck 5x5 squats i'm pushing too much weight to do that, and barbell rows make me want to kill myself

i'll try the P2W advanced novice program with only really minor changes to the accessories and added OHP, slightly more tailored to my goals, fighting my personal weaknesses.

I really do have shitty genetics, but i think it's also due to chemical exposure and malnutrition as a kid

These are the Adidas Crazypowers.
Heels in TPU (the stiffer material, in contrast to EVA from PP2 and PL2s, or rubber from cheaper shoes).

Effective heel height seems to be 2.1cm, the same as the PP2 and Drehkraft. But we have no actual confirmation so far.

Seems inspired by the PL3s, similar asymmetric design, same thick strap, etc.

I wouldn't say add stuff to that routine - because you do have to account for doing 24 near-max sets a week on the big lifts - but at some point that tradeoff has to be changed. You can't be in full specificity peaking mode the entire time.

If by 'strength training' you mean '5x5', then yes. A program approach that is generally not used by anyone strong who doesn't also have other major training stresses going on.

There's more to strength training - and getting maximally strong - than just deciding that everything forever and always must be comp lifts for low reps. That's not super effective. Especially not for a guy who is still 20lbs or more under his effective weight class.
