>A young man's dream of joining the Royal Marines is said to be hanging in the balance after he punched a man in the face on a dancefloor.

>Matthew Fish has hopes of joining the elite corps but his actions during the early hours of August 21 could have cost the 19-year-old dearly.

>Rebecca Dolby, prosecuting at Hull Magistrates' Court, said Fish's victim was the brother of a young woman he was "trying to chat up" at The Sugar Mill, a nightclub in Dagger Lane, city centre.

>Miss Dolby said the attack occurred when the victim confronted Fish on the dance floor about pestering his sister.

>Fish had admitted in interview to drinking five cans of Fosters before going out, and then consuming a double Jack Daniels and coke and a drink known as a Turbo Charger while out.

>He recalled "having an altercation" with his victim, but could not remember anything else about the incident, Miss Dolby told the court.
