It is a great concept in theory, to measure out strength through basic compound movements, but in practice it's just a shitshow.

Goddamn strongman competitions involve 20x more total body strength and general athleticism. Strongman. Where they bounce shit off their guts to get it into rack. But even that involves mlre total body strength than the way bench press is done now.

It's not just boring it's kinda fucking stupid the more you learn about it.

The weird stances so you don't go too deep past parallel in a squat. Bar placed as low as possible to maximize hip extension involvement.

Benchers maximizing arch and spreading grip width to shorten ROM.

The sumo deadliters with feet spread all the way to the plates.


Even the concept of a max weight single with the barbell is kinda dumb when you realize that by standardization of the lifts youre starting to favor skeletal structure and skill in the movements over actually being strong.


It's basically oly weightlifting lite in the worst way. People with shitty rom who aren't that explosive or really talented, just with decent skeletal structure and an ability to push really hard through their hips.

At least oly lifting involves a tying in of upper and lower body strength, with a great deal of actual skill, flexibility and power. Plus they throw shit above their heads.

Tl;dr powerlifting is for lazy shitters who like basic barbell compounds and fall for the hype of a potential competition. It's totally fallen away from the spirit of both athletic competition and just general feats of strength, in favor of sterilised judge friendly anyone-can-do-it pansylifting.

Yesterday I went to workout and had to stop squatting, it was hurting a lot on my lower back. Ended up just benching.

Yeah it seems amazing for bench at least. I might be doing it wrong though, currently I just have medium (spoto presses), light (CG) and a heavy day of doubles with regular bench. Start each day at around 70, 60 & 80% respectively and add 2.5kg week, reset a given day once I start grinding. I'm still pretty weak but I benched 90% of my max for 6 on heavy day last week so the gains are real. I really like being able to do all my reps with good form too since every day is always doable.

I think his years and years of heavy rows and cheat curls have turned them into steel. Chins, rows, and facepulls are good. Since you're lifting 3x/week, try to do either chins or rows every time, and facepulls once or twice.
If cable crossovers are harder at peak contraction than at full stretch, I'd rather you do DB flyes.
No harm in pumping some arms or doing some core work either.

I really like reverse hypers.

I can't say that they have saved my back or anything wit hcertainty, but I always feel much better after using one if I have any back pain, and it also is a nice "warmup" for when my back / lower spine is feeling stiff.

I dont have any great cues for how to use one. Sometimes I will do it with my legs slightly angled outward, sometimes with my legs andgled further out if I want more hip involvement, but try just move your glutes to bring your legs up.

I think I have a decent sense of the meme muscle connection so I am not very good at giving a cue for it sorry.

Dont swing your legs to get your spine neutral,just think about your legs being held in the air and focus on tightening your ass to bring them up.
