How have you improved yourself this week/month/year? Lifting isn't life, a well-balanced human being is productive, has hobbies, pushes him/herself to succeed, is charismatic, and strives to live the best life they can. Share your successes, failures, methods, and everything in between.

The sticky is divided like so:
>Recommended Readings.
>Some tips to get your life back on track.
>Study and Career.
>To-do list habit.rpg (If you’re TOTALLY Lost. Start with this one)
>Focus and meditation
>Finance

Basic Recommendations:
>Have a productivity Framework that is flexible. A mindset that gets you going.
>Use a calendar, like google calendar. Hours and shit for things YOU WILL DO.
>Learn to focus.
>Meditate.
>Do routines for things you should do periodically/daily, this should cover daily things or weekly chores such as laundry, cleaning, shopping.
>Identify and Eliminate conflicts within yourself.
>Focus on identifying the time wasters in your life and eliminate them.
>Focus on the essentials. If you try to do everything at once you’ll burnout. Little by little.

Resources:

>If you think there is material that should be added (Or taken off). Please say so.
>There is no central authority for the /SIG/, everyone could copy, modify and upload the info here in a latter post.
>To future curators of the /SIG/. Stray away from PUA, and avoid Fedora stuff please.
>If you try monetizing with this, I’ll cut you.
>I’m looking to expand the ‘how to focus’ Area. If you believe you can help out/have tips. Please share.
>>
Material reading can be tricky. There will be trash here and there as we're not /lit/.

But we have to trust others.
Image related has a detailed list that an Annon provided on a thread a while back. If you got time to kill, click on the image, and read the descriptions

As time goes, the /SIG/ has had a couple of books recommended. I’ve done my best to try to get talks of the authors of such books so you can get a ‘piece’ before you commit.

Google a bit about the book, if you think you can get something out of it, watch the talk.
In my opinion, try getting the books “for free”.
If you read it and get something out of it, consider paying for the book.

>Freedom is having control of your life

You should at least have 3 hobbies/activities.
-One that will pay the bills, gets food on your table
-One that will keep you in shape. (lower you faggot)
-One that you're passionate about and might be able to develop into a career.
--------

If you're into lifting, taking the tips to better yourself should be simple; as you already have built some self-discipline.

Make peace with yourself and the way things are right now.
Stop thinking the world owes you, how destiny ‘fucked you over’, how those guys have it easier.
Accept things as they are, realize that life is cruel and your circumstances are the ones you were given. You can’t do shit about the starting point, but you can move forward.

Don’t focus in what was given to you, focus in what you’ll achieve.

Eliminate the things you dislike about yourself, about your life. Is as simple as, do you enjoy your job? No? Take steps to change the feeling.
How are you gonna make that? You either make your job more enjoyable, or you change jobs. Simple.
You want a girl? how do you plan to achieve that? Are you too socially inept? Work on that.
Are you piss poor and can’t afford a decent living? Work on that too.

No matter who you are, where you are in your life, or how fucked up you think you are.
You can improve your life. Take control. Move forward.
Dreams keeps us alive, fighting for them makes us feel alive.
About 5-7 years ago, I was a fucking train-wreck.
Right now, I'm doing fairly well.

Get some discipline, set some goals and a way to achieve them.
Cultivate yourself, learn stuff, get your shit together.

And realize, understand. None is coming to save you.
You got to make your way through.
You NEED to take CONTROL.

If you're still in School. For fuck sake pay attention.

MORE than half of actually doing good in school is attending, the other half is paying attention in class. So then do it.
Or stop it altogether.
If you’re in college and you’re not feeling it, take a semester to think things through.
If you’re in high school, don’t think YOU NEED to enter college to be successful. There are other ways…
Google just started hiring people who never went to college.
WATCH this talk:
http://youtu.be/iG9CE55wbtY

Some learning resources, focusing in code since I’m an ‘IT’ guy:
>duolingo.com
First and foremost. Free language learning tool with a really robust app. THIS IS A MUST. Learning a new language will help you out no matter who you are.
>codeacademy.com
Teaches you the basics, from the ground up.
>codeschool.com/
Similar to codeacademy.
>youtube.com/user/thenewboston
Personal favorite. This guy step by step, learns a shit-ton of programing languages. Give this a check and start watching something you’re interested in.
>codeeval.com
This one I really like, once you get your shit going, it puts you ‘objectives’ to solve through code, last batch are really complex.
>coursera.org
It’s a really nice online-course platform. There are really good things here as well.
>openprocessing.org / processing.org / codepen.io
These sites display some really cool stuff, where you can also check the source code and modify it to see what happens.
>freecodecamp.com

As for career options.
Choose anything you want, If you want to go into Philosophy or humanities, That's fucking great. As long as you’re passionate about it, you’ll find a way.
You can always become a teacher or a writer.

BUT BE FUCKING AWARE THAT YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING MONEY. Don't get a loan to study shit that will be expensive to repay.

Other than that, don't enter into something soulless just because 'I'll get money'.
You only got one fucking life, don’t waste it doing something you hate.

You must have a to-do list, it's pretty essential.
As for which, there are several options
Google Keep, Evernote or whatever suits you.

But currently I suggest you use:
https://habitrpg.com/
There’s even a /fit/ guild created to keep us in check.
https://habitrpg.com/#/options/groups/guilds/eeb30614-2936-4f1c-9713-117248d10149

It’s certainly geeky as fuck. But Gamification has been proven to work when applied to certain aspects of human psyche. Helps you stay in check and keeping your eyes on the trophy.

Stupid trivial things I used to do, I stopped once I placed them as ‘Bad habits’.
It also has a mobile app, while it’s a bit limited and on construction, it is free.

There are three main categories.
>Habits. These are things you do by impulse, not under a schedule. Can be good or bad.

+Go for a jog
+Sleep early/on time Sun-Thu
+Walk the dog
+Go for a ride
+Cook something new
+Go out and socialize
+Spend time at the shelter

-Smoke
-Drink soda
-Drink beers
-Eat Junk/Dirty bulk
-Stay up late Sun-Thu
-Fap [?]
-Play 1.5+ Hours vidya a day
-Shitpost

>Dailies are things you ALWAYS do. Every day or certain days of the week. Planned, they are only good.

+Lift (m - w - f)
+Eat your macros(daily)
+Buy Groceries (Sa)
+Read 30 min (daily)
+Practice the Guitar 30 Min(daily)
+Study Video Editing 40 Min (daily)
+Cook (We, Sa)
+Do your daily points in duolingo

>To-Do are, well, things you must do. You can have a checklist within one To-Do.

()Fix the shelf
()Go to the post office and send the package
()Buy the ticket to the concert
()Pay the landlord
()Organize my trip to the moon
—()Get the rocket tickets
—()Get the reservation for the moon Hostel
—()Buy some moonars to have some local money
—()Buy a map of moon city

Seeing the numbers go up (or health go down) is a weird sort of motivation. I can vouch for it. Give it a try, if you have no idea where to start, This is a good one.

Fill your bad habits, put the to-do’s and take it from there.
>>
BUT SHIT FINANCEBRAH, NOW I'M EARNING ALL THIS MONEY, WHAT DO I DO WITH IT, SHOULD I BUY A FERRARI?

You save it, live within your means, don't go into high interest debt, keep expenses low, the more you save, the more you can put to work, and the more you can earn.

Passively earning money.

I like to call this putting your money to work for you, it's takes money you have saved, investing it, and getting a return on it.

I CAN MAKE MONEY WITHOUT WORKING FINANCEBRAH? ARE YOU FOR REAL.

Yes. This is how most people become wealthy, saving money, and getting a big return on it. How do you do that? Again, there are hundreds of ways. As a general rule, the higher the risk, the higher the reward. What you invest in depends on your investment strategy.

http://www.wikihow.com/Create-an-Investment-Plan

Read it and create one, it should tie in to your long term goals that you set and have written down.

Again, too many different kind of investments to cover in one post, here is a good overview of them.

http://www.investopedia.com/university/20_investments/

This is the risk order:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk%E2%80%93return_spectrum

I personally prefer Real estate, forex trading, and stocks. There is so much information out there, I can just encourage you to read and learn as much as possible. See what suits your life and where you live. And never stop learning.

FINANCEBRAHS RULES ON HOW TO BE FINANCIALLY SMART

>PAYING OFF HIGH INTEREST DEBT IS THE BEST FORM OF SAVING THERE IS, payday loans first, credit cards, ect.
>NEVER GO INTO DEBT TO BUY THINGS THAT DEPRECIATE, IF YOU CAN MANAGE IT
>LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. THE BRAND NAME BAKED BEANS COME AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK
>AVOID ALL LATE PENALITIES ON DEBT
>BUDGET WISELY

and finally, the most important one.

TRY AND SAVE SOMETHING EVERY PAY PERIOD. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS $1, SET A GOAL OF HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO SAVE AND FUCKING HIT IT, PUT IT INTO AN ACCOUNT TO BE USED ONLY FOR INVESTING.
>>
Someone please recommend me some good podcasts to listen to while lifting.
>>
Take cold showers every morning. Best thing you can do besides eating healthier.

One book I will always stick with is The Fountainhead.

Rand was fucking nonsensical when it came to a purely individualist society, but both the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged give valuable insight into the power of the uncompromising, productive individual.

Aphoristic literature is in the /lit/ wiki, and go to other boards for their recommended books, e.g. /sci/, /his/, /g/, /ic/, /p/, /diy/ etc.

Most self-improvement boils down to this:

- Get fit and healthy (diet, sleep, exercise, meditate)
- Read and learn
- Develop some sort of positive thinking feedback loop (various authors have their own models and frameworks)
- Cut out bad habits, replace with good ones

I came to this thread to post exactly this. This annon is 100% right.

IMO an essential reading list includes:
The Book of Pook
>mandatory for all males, this is a guide on male sexuality and contains essential information that almost all young males are (intentionally) not exposed to these days
Starship troopers
>An easy short read. A guide on morality and patriotism thinly veiled as a sci-fi novel.
I will teach you to be rich
>Semi outdated book on personal finance by a meme author. Main message is that you have no excuse for being an uneducated bitch about your finances just because you are young and weren't taught any life skills in high school.
The millionaire next door
>People who think/pretend they are rich are much different from actual rich people. This is a bitter red pill on wealth.
The fountainhead
>This can be a hard read due to the writing style. You will get severely triggered if you take the radical philosophy or actions of the characters too seriously.
Atlas shrugged
>The expert level version of the fountainhead. Read it but don't worship it. It's a parable, not dogma.

I have no choice but isolation now Phampai; nothing else is enjoyable to me anymore. Grills disappointment and my friends and I don't connect unless I drink alcohol with them.

My dream is to fight in another country; I just missed out on fighting in america this year but next year I think I'll get taken over with my club.

I believe when i do meet THE GRILL; she'll be someone from down boxing; I need someone with decent old fashioned values rather than a party whore. I've had party whores and they're all boring beyond the obvious sex; but sex isn't worth the effort it takes to obtain.

I fully expect a shittorrent, mainly to the tune of "fucking millennials..." but I'm still going to see if anyone can be so kind as to help a stranger.

>Anyone get over a quarter life crisis?

23yo britfag, got A levels in Accounting, business studies and maths, got accounting degree, worked as an assistant accountant for a year, quit 15 months ago and haven't done a single productive thing since.

The job itself was exactly as I expected it to be, had been expecting for years in fact, I just always hoped it wouldn't be as bad as I thought it would be. It was immensely dull and full of ass licking to keep people happy.

I've been really put off accounting as a career. I genuinely don't want to do it anymore. I fantasise about engineering, I'm a tinkerer, but I wouldn't know where to even start switching careers, and if I think about it I know I'll be in the same position but with added debt. I also fantasise about being an officer in the army, but I'm neither physically nor psychologically strong enough for it. I have all the right qualities in theory, but actually doing it would be a major issue.

I'm pretty much immobilised because I don't know what my next step is. If I went back to work after 12 months since my last job, I could have blagged that I took my last chance to finally get a gap year out of my system. Young, have a small amount of savings, between jobs, it would have been a perfectly fine excuse. Now the longer my break goes on, the more concerned employers will become. I don't even know what to go back to.

Only thing I can be proud of is I never took neetbux, I'm not a spender so all my earnings went into my bank, and I've been living off it since. It's obviously going to run out eventually though. I kind of wish I could use an exit bag and get it over with, but I don't want to hurt my family, and I'm the sort of clown than can never commit to a decision.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty obvious what you should do but you're just deceiving yourself.

Go back to work as an accountant. If you're truly unhappy, go back to school and figure out what you want to do. There's no debt if you pay for school as you go. Yes, you'll lose a ton of your time but that's better than being a neetfag.

I know you're right, I guess I just don't want to accept the inevitable.

Do you think it's worth seeing a GP? It's "free" in the UK, so wouldn't cost me anything. I don't want to be prescribed pills that fuck me over, but who knows, I might be prescribed something that takes the edge off my depression and lets me get on with life. I've never told anyone about my depression, nor seen a doctor about it.

Are there any options to go study engineering in the military? Those often give kickass experience and teaches discipline (which it seems you are wishing your).

Also, if parts of your degree was in math, how about programming? Which often doesn't even require a degree if you actually do the self study, though going to uni to study that isn't a bad choice either.

I looked into this when I initially quit my job. In fact it was one of the lesser driving forces for quitting. I wanted to use my time off getting up to army fitness standards and preparing myself for the interviews and what not I'd have to go through. That plan immediately went to shit though. If I were to aim to go into the military, I'd be basically barred from seeing a doctor about my mental health issues. You can't join if you've had depression in the last few years, I've never declared mine to anyone, not even my family, only anonymously online. There's a few things putting me off joining, reading other people's experiences dispel a lot of myths I fantasise about, I don't mean I'd be worried about being hurt/killed or anything, but in the army, there's even more boredom, and a tonne more ass kissing than my last job. I think it'd wear me out even more than my last job, except I'd be locked into a 4 year service contract minimum.

I don't think I'd be a good programmer. I have no creativity, I do most things by the book, like an accountant should. I've heard (mostly from /g/) that programming and tech jobs are really bad in general. I don't like the sound of that.

Thank you for your points though! I need to stress I don't want to just disregard advice and argue against it, you've given me some great things to think about. But the two specifics you've given I've already had long hard thinks about (you obviously couldn't have possibly known this), spent the last 15 months thinking about the army and put hours and hours of research into it, but I don't think it's for me. It's not that I want to disregard your advice, but I do have my worries/concerns about it. It's nice to have someone to talk things through with I guess.
>>
>>39601741
Yeah, it is, my dad gets counselling on NHS, and has had Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and all that jazz in the past. You need to see a GP to get referred. I don't like going to my GP though to be honest, when you walk into his office, his main aim is to get you back out. Makes me feel like I'd rather not bother. I get that GPs are overstretched nowadays, I don't blame him, but it's kinda pointless going. I'd go if I need to, I'd need an aim to achieve whilst there, and not leave until I get what I want. I don't know what it is I want though. I need to look into therapy and what not and decide what I'd need and try and get him to refer me before he kicks me out.
>>
I fucking love these threads. Alright, let's start with the good stuff:
>biking 100km a week
>leanest I've been
>started being able to read stories in Chinese
>trying to use every opportunity I have to get better at social interactions

But I need a few tips. I want to focus on getting better at social skills, because I'll be graduating soon and I'll be needing it. I've looked for dance/debate clubs in my city but didn't find anything. Where can I train my social skills? I don't particularly like going to clubs because I can't even listen to what the other person is saying.
>>
>>39601816
>>39601827
Now worries. Sounds like the army is a no go then. And if that's so, what's stopping you from going to a GP and trying CBT? Sounds like the symptoms of depression are what's keeping you from not going to your GP and getting treatment for it :)
The drugless treatments have no risk, so why not have an honest go at it?

Also:
> "I've heard (mostly from /g/) that programming and tech jobs are really bad in general. I don't like the sound of that."
Yeah they are wrong. It's a job like any other, but likely less politics, more pay and more freedom. + it gets really interesting once you start to understand things. That's been my experience at least (and the exp. of all the people I know who have gone that route).

But hey, there are a bunch of things you can do with your time on earth, programming and accounting are only two of them
>>

i've started a cut a few days ago, it's going well so far.

i have two questions. one, how do i incorporate more explosive lifts/exercises in my routine? and which ones are god tier but relatively easy to learn (c&j is hard without a trainer imo, for example). i already do regular lifting, want to train more like an athlete now, be explosive and 'functional' (fukk i hate that word)

and secondly, anyone has some good music albums suggestions for listening while lifting? i like rock/metal more than rap, but rap is okay if it's really good (immortal technique/eminem rly get me motivated for some reason)
>>
>>39601915
Yeah you're probably right in that I should just see my GP, you really are.

I've tried coding before, the basic fundamentals made sense in my mechanical mind, I never went further though. I have no hobbies, literally 0, I spend most of my day on 4chan and youtube. I'll use the first couple posts in this thread and just have another go, pick it up as hobby, see where it leads.

Another thing I've just started thinking about because of you and this thread is that I have goals. I have never had goals, they've always been to get a degree, then when i got that, I just went with the flow by getting a job and that didn't work. If I make some goals, and find a way to constantly remind myself of them, that might motivate me a bit.

Really appreciate your time and advice, thank you.

I'm 23 and I've think of dropping out of school and also leaving my job as a waiter. I just can't handle school anymore. I'm so fucking behind in my classes that its really sad. I hate my accounting major and I can't really see myself majoring in anything. Like nothing really interests me.

I thought about just working in a hospital as a desk monkey. If I get the job I will get paid more and I will get more hrs. So I guess it better than working in a restaurant. I'm just scared it will fuck up my mental gains. It seems like a boring job, but I really do need more money, so I kinda need the job. The problem is that I have no experience working at a desk job. I only have experience working in a restaurant.

The requirements needed aren't too bad, but I'm just scared they won't hire me because I've only worked in food service.

Here is my resume.
Would you guys hire me?
>>
>>39605099
>Sounds decent enough
what would you consider great?

when I'm working I interact with lots of people, but it's mostly very formal.

I usally lift alone, but I would like to find a gym bro. I can work on that

I also paint alone, what I don't mind. But I would like to make that hobby more social, how can I do that?
>>
>>39605188
Go get tested, just like you should normally do with regular intervals.
>guys i think i have some type of anxiety disorder
OF COURSE YOU GET FUCKING ACTIONS AFTER GIVING YOURSELF ALCOHOL POISONING. Wtf do you expect is going to happen after you fuck with your system like that?

I'm not saying to be a tee totaler or anything, but anything more than a strong beer or two and you should expect it to fuck with your mental state and your gut bacteria for days at least. Up to at least a week and a half
>>
>>39605210
Who gives a fuck if they don't hire you? It's not personal, you just didn't fit the needs of the problem they have at the moment.

Also, interest in your subject tends to come after you are good at it. See: So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport. It's the best book I've read on "career"-advice, and it really dispells the usual bullshit we are told about having to "find your passion", while the truth is that almost anyone with a real "passion" for what they do gained it only after getting good at it
>>
>>39605210
id hire you as a entry level accountant at $35K a year if you did well at the interview, meaning you were pleasant and reasonably well groomed and convinced my accountants you more or less knew whats what.

would have liked to see an internship, though. $40K for that.
>>
>>39605227
>I would like to make that hobby [painting] more social, how can I do that?
Do they have art groups, gallery openings, art meetups in your area? Anywhere where people gather and discuss art? I know that where I live there is a biweekly thing where you can go with a group from gallery to gallery and once you start to recognize people and they start to recognize you the step to socialize outside those events feels alot smaller.

I started supplementing my lifting with a social sport. I've tried different martial arts and gymnastics. Though a team sport would be fun to do at some point
>>
>>39605231
I meant to write anxious. I think you're more likely to get action if you drink less while out
>>
>>39605296
Yeah but I don't really like accounting anymore.
>>
>>39605227
>>39605296
If you're applying for desk jobs, why not hit up some accounting firms and see if they need desk jobs or office support people? Makes it WAAY easier to get a job doing accounting if you have an accounting firm already on your CV, even if the job you where doing wasn't relevant. Though I agree intership would be ideal
>>
>>39605328
It's easier to switch roles when you have already proven that you are able to provide value in one department than if you apply from outside. So becoming a good accountant for a while might be a good option before transferring internally to something else

Any good resources on how to have better self-control?

I know exactly what I want to do with my time, I plan out what I want to get done and by when etc.

But I always seem to procrastinate and play video games or browse the internet.

I know meditation is a good practice in relation to this, but does anyone have any more ideas?
>>
>>39605751
Self-control (at least mine) is overrated. Just get rid of the vidya and block the most unproductive websites you spend most of your time on. Even if you only do it temporarily, it helps. Also social accountability. Bets with friends or just an agreement with someone else that if you do X have to donate 1-5% of your yearly income to Hillary Clinton or whatever. Stickk does this

Wew, this is the first time I stumble upon this pearl of a thread. I read through the sticky, will give you feedback on "how to focus". Then wade through the thread.

This piece is written on basis of my own experiences, some of what I write might help you, some might not. Not everything that is applicable to me is applicable to you. See what works best for yourself.

>Shortterm focus:
The border between shortterm and longterm can be vague, hence I will move from a smaller to a bigger timescale.

First of all there are events for which you need to focus on a short term. The first thing that pops into my mind, is thay you need to make a homework assignment. Let's say it roughly costs 1.5 hour to finish your homework assignment. What would be the most ideal situation to get it done in a proper way, where you learn the most from it? (Doing your homework good, reduces the amount of time you need to invest later on in studying for the eventual test).

Start out by assigning a date and time when you are going to make (part of) the homework. I always cut up assignments that cost me more than one hour into two parts. It is of no use if you force yourself to work a lot longer than you're comfortable with, because you work less efficient. So after an hour move on to some other chore, and then get back to the homework with some fresh energy.

Setting a time and date for when you do the homework, prevents you from procrastenating from doing it. If you have a schedule next to your procrastrination machine, it will make you feel bad if you're doing jack shit, and know you should be spending your time on something more useful. Furthermore it is also helpful if you work on something with another person. a) two minds can think faster than one, and you learn a lot more if you explain it to someone else, or get it explained yourself. Besides this, you implicitely sign an implicit social contract where you will look like a weak faggot if you bail out of it.
>>
Rolling!!
>>
>>39606701
Focus during the actual making of the homework:

>Get rid of all unecissary stimulation/distraction
>If you're a neurotic bastard like me, get something to chew on to remain focused
>If you're overstimulated by sounds/sights, like me, choose a quiet place to make your homework, or use headphones to keep yourself concentrated
>Did I already mention that you need to get rid of as much distraction as possible?
>Taking an occasional break is actually a healthy thing to do
>Stop as soon as your as your assigned time is up, if you can't finish it on time, plan in a new time & date to work on it
>Read it through once before you hand it in to prevent retarded mistakes.

>Longterm focus:

If you have no longterm focus you're fucked. You have nothing to work towards, and become an apathic bastard, like I used to be. Do some soulsearching in what you like, and set some future goals for yourself.

>Choose a goal
>Don't choose something someone else chose for you, or you are doing "because someone else is doing it", develop some personality and think for yourself ffs.
>Split it up into managable sub-goals
>Make a plan to achieve said subgoals within a certain time period
>If it takes too much effort, adjust plan
>Take an occasional day off to think things through, so you're not heading blindly in the wrong direction
>Don't do anything against your will
>Do things that will cost you blood sweat and tears, you build character this way. Learn to distinguish between really, really, really doing something against your will, and things costing some effort to achieve
>Celebrate reaching subgoals
>Enjoy seeing yourself grow, it really pays of. It is a long term thing.

Godspeed anon, godspeed

Okay I just had the craziest realization at the gym today.
If you aren't constantly challenging yourself, you will fall behind. People will not want to associate with you.
As fucked up as it sounds, only the strong can thrive in the world. As much as we like to say everyone is equal and all should be fair, it is not. Nature or evolution will never allow that to happen. Only those who are the strongest will thrive and get the most out of life. There is an elite and the 99%. I know this sounds fedora as fuck but it's the truth. I took lsd and mushrooms and had the feelings everyone is equal (I still think everyone should be treated with respect, don't get me wrong) but this mentality made me soft and made me feel entitled to stuff I didn't earn.

If you aren't growing, you're slowly dieing. Think of people as plants. Some plants flourish and produce beautiful fruit while others rot and diminish. Those who produce fruit continute to live on through their offspring and the cycle of life continues.
This is why fat people are looked down upon. They aren't challenging themselves and let themselves rot from the inside out. As much as we like to believe this world is a beautiful place (i still believe it is but don't be naive) we have to recognize how harsh ad unforgiving it can be.

Don't give it up man. I received my masters in math about 2 years ago, and honestly you're not going to regret having a math / physics / engineering degree. I make way more cash than I had ever hoped, and at this stage in my life, cash is a big motivator.

Yeah I understand that. Maybe I'm also being shortsighted - I'm pretty sure I'll be sick of my job within the next 2 years and go back to thinking about personal happiness vs. cash / job.
I started in banking (markets) but switched to business intelligence in an e-commerce company. I'm just hoping at some point I can make it and get out of the system, to dedicate my time to activities I like

Starting out in STEM is fucking fantastic, especially since you can often do a whole lot of different things with any of those skills.

And if you are like me and value the freedom to do the interesting shit you want to do then few things beat the money and flexibility of STEM (personally I'm in CS for these reasons, also it's pretty fun).

This is my life now, after I read Aurelius.

Mon-Firday, work from 8-17
>wake up at 5:40, meditate until 6, shower and leave for work
>get home by 6 pm
>work out, usually takes 40-50 mins with stretching
>read for an hour while I rehidrate and rest, if the book is great I read for at most 2 hours
>Study for 1-2 hours (1 hour usually because I am lazy about this yet)
>Play something until 11:15 pm, go to bed so I am asleep by 11:30
>rinse and repeat

On the weekends:
>still sleep 6 hours
>read more, study more
>clean house, wash clothes, cook for next week, grocery shopping yadda yadda
>friends/social gathering etc.
>play a bit if there are no plans

I check finances per month, have a savings rate of about 60% (low income).
Also started doing NoFap about 2 months ago. It really does work, I urge everyone to read up about the experiences people had.

Will post some useful links later, but most are already present in this thread thanks to mighty Anon and his organisational skills.
I actually like living this way
start small. maybe you can try some online courses, or apply to some real ones if you want to orientate/study first. Or you could just sign up for the mlitary and see what happens
