Maybe, but for me the connection from better arch -> stronger setup -> more weight on the bar was pretty smooth. I mean, from a pure mechanical perspective (which I know is not perfect) a bigger arch provides a stronger position.

Summed up here:
Cat camel:
5-8 cycles
Curl-up:
7-8 seconds - alternate sides
Side bridge:
7-8 seconds - alternate sides
Bird dog:
7 - 8 seconds - alternate sides

I also did planks, but I don't think they helped honestly.

I did this every day, sometimes twice a day, for 1.5 months. Eventually all the planks caused me to strain my abs, which worsened my lower back pain.

So I stopped doing it and started deadlifting again, I did lots of wide grip deadlifts and after a while I found that my back hurt whenever I didn't deadlift in a while. And the more I deadlifted the less it hurt.
Now it doesn't hurt at all.

The conclusion I've came up to is to strengthen your core first with the mcgill thing, and then strengthen the SHIT out of your back once you can deadlift pain free,

Hyperextension injuries don't occur during squats/deadlifts.

First by the fact that the weight is causing flexion force, not extension force. So you can't even hyperextend to the point of injury (a non-natural movement that needs outside force), as the weight on the bar is actively trying to flex your spine.

Now sum the fact that the squat and deadlift are making it harder to hurt yourself with hyperextension, with the fact that hyperextension-injuries of the lumbar and thoracic spine are an extremely rare type of injury, to the point where medical books and articles say "it's not even worth talking about".
