Also trappy a couple months ago I use to ohp without regard for back hyperextension which caused lumbar and thoraic (i think that's how you spell it) pain. And now anytime I ohp with a hyperextended back it causes discomfort. Now I flex glutes and core hard to keep a neutral back. If hyperextension isnt bad then what was my problem?

My bench has gotten to 80kg for 2, almost back to my rep PR of 80x3 (1rm was 86kg). next week hopefully i'll be back where I was.

Still got 15kg left on my squat to get that back to where it was,

and my deadlift is also only 15kg off where it was

My new program is working well, i am definitely getting stronger, that month i spent not power-lifting really showed me the weaknesses in my training, and Reverse Pyramid Training is a great way to train.

I have decided that leg curls are fucking awful and I will not do them, becasue fuck laying leg curls seriously.

I'll try to keep it simple, so you understand:

On the OHP the weight is pushing your back into extension, so if you extend your back, you sum those two forces into a super extending force. So basically you hyperextend waaaaay past the safe point.

On the squat and deadlift the weight is pushing your back into flexion, so if you extend your back, your muscles act against the weight of the bar and keep your back from flexing. So basically you can't hyperextend beyond the safe point, and the weight on the bar is actively working against your effort to extend.

Keep in mind flexion of the spine is generally a bad thing and a common cause of injury.

This whole argument you're making trappy is fucking pointless

A lot of people deadlift with spinal flexion and are completely injury free. Doesn't mean you should do it.

You can flex your spine up until an arbitrary "safe point" and lift for years healthily.

I highly doubt there has been a 10-20 years of lifting study done on hyper-extended squatting/deadlifting vs neutral spine vs flexion with a big enough sample size to give meaningful information.

Until then, a neutral spine is still the safest way to go and people should aim for it. If they hyperextend or have flexion on a couple maximal reps it's going to be ok but doesn't mean you should just keep doing it because you haven't gotten injured.

There's still very little information on the effects of powerlifting/heavy lifting on the body/joints over a lifetime.

Maybe we should all just stop squatting and do 10x50 on the leg press

Somethings up with my right knee and it's worrying me for squats tomorrow

Had random severe pain on saturday but nothing since then but now bending it backwards hurts but bending my left knee backwards doesnt hurt. The only two things I know of in the knee are the ACL and the knee bone so its definitely one of those two that's causing the pain

It can happen just randomly. Proprioception sometimes weirds itself out when it comes to knee position when walking if you're relaxed. If you're slightly hypermobile it's more prevalent.

Chances are you collapsed your knee inwards while walking, and now the tissues are a little tender.
Minor stretch damage can be healed relatively quickly if you don't aggravate it.

Most likely you have slight tendonitis or inflamation from overuse (without sufficient recovery)
You have two options:
1. Do your squats tomorrow and have a negative thought in your head that if you try too hard you could get injured further which could happen or perhaps nothing will happen.

2. Take a deload week on squats/deads, do some light rehab work on it. After a week consider how you knee feels and if it's ok do the workouts you were meant to do.

I'd recommend option 2 personally but if I was you i'd probably be stupid and do option 1.

It is boring I won't argue with that. But it would be good to focus on some of those "real life" things that can be improved in the gym like balance and muscular endurance.

Probably won't get you back to deadlifting THAT much faster if you've just got an acute muscular injury, but it's a great thing to get in the habit of doing just for your overall back health later in life.
