So I kinda have an issue.

My hip socket hurts every time I hit bottom on depth. No way to tell without an x-ray, but it feels like my femur is smashing into my socket. Even bodyweight squats kinda hurt when I hit bottom after heavy squatting.

Warm-ups dont really help. Ive been mostly ignoring it hoping it would go away but it's not.

When I go to lift tonight Im gonna see if it happens with the bar as high as possible on my traps, because front squats never seemed to bother it. If that doesn't work, and my hip sockets still hurt at end range, what are my options? I really dont want to give up back squatting :(((

It's going, brother. Starting CLP tomorrow after recouping a little of my lost strength on a standard LP. The pause work may be unnecessary for someone as weak as I am, but I find it indispensable due to a savage shoulder injury (severed ligaments and all).

Next time I hit those numbers I'll be down 120 pounds bodyweight.

What about you? It's strange how circumstances align in such ways, a perfect time to deload. What numbers are you working with/planning to?

Well, I was doing some Leeman-style programming (i.e. do as many sets as needed to reach 15 reps, add weight every session, then switch to a top set with backoffs when you need four sets). It's going ok. Kinda just a "slam your face into the bar" form of linear periodization. I think my upper body lifts are getting more out of it than my lower body lifts, but we'll see as time goes on. The only thing I've had to switch so far is pause squats.
My lifts were around 1/1.5/3/4 when I started a couple of months ago, so we'll see how things have changed in another couple of months. I definitely like it, but I'll be adding weight more quickly next time so my training cycle isn't so long.

I like un-structured training for "off season" and minor meets, and then structured training for when I want to turn my brain off and grind towards a goal.

Currently enjoying the shit out of a self-customized 5/3/1 (3/5/1) template. Lots of chances to auto-regulate on top of the bare bones.

It is a nice compromise.

Not really. But I think they're just as unimportant as planks or the so called ab wheel.

When a powerlifter trains their abs, I would reccomend weighted crunches (on a ball to allow for full ROM). Its a good ab (and spone) excercise IMO.

Planks have their place as well. They can be more specific to some situations as you are not moving the spine, just holding it in place.

But anyway, the abs dont play a big role in any of the powerlifts. I would only train abs to keep the spine healthy.

As back extensions would also be done (often with a rounded lumbar spine), crunches (and perhaps planks) would also be done simply for balance of the spinal extensors and flexors.

Thoughts on this line of thinking? - 'activating' muscles before certain movements. It seems to be on the face of it needless - surely you'll necessarily use the muscles you want to 'activate' if you do the movement correctly anyway. It should be fun, low stress training. A change of pace from the daily grind.

Go for 3-5 x 5-12 (ish) for your rep ranges. Don't do anything stupid to get hurt (no bosu ball weird shit).

Or you can even just have rep goals (ex: 100 reps total of tricep isolation work).

Regarding your comp lifts, just work up to a couple singles at 85% tops for your squat and bench a couple times per week. DL, maybe once per week.

It doesn't take much to keep the groove fresh.

You can even just do variations of the big 3 programmed for higher rep ranges, plus plenty of supplementary work. Ex: Front Squats, OHP, SLDL's, plus plenty of pulling, curls, triceps, chest, etc etc.

You should come out of it with some good pumps in recent memory, fresh happy joints, and a hunger for pushing heavy weight.

The issue is that my scapular winging causes forward shoulder, so it's a little difficult to use them properly, since I can't even put my scapula in the proper position. Yeah, I've gotten pec cramps from sumo. It's never been that bad though.

Today during my workout my strained intercostal was flairing up again. I was able to power through and finish my main work (bench/squats), but I still can't dumbbell bench or do lat work since it's too painful. Should I just keep powering through until it goes away?

Why do cunts think sheiko is the be all and end all of powerlifting training?

Yeah it's a good program and all but different people respond better to different training stimulus.

The a good program is one they can be consistent with (as long as the program is reputable ofc but this shouldn't need to be said)

Starting Strength, Strong Lifts, GreySkull, Madcow, 5/3/1, Cude Method, TM, Candito, Sheiko, Smolov, Lilliebridge, Bulgarian Method, RTS, etc, etc

These are all good programs that can be utilised depending on your level and how you best respond to the training. Ultimately none of these will ever be as optimal as a fully customised program specified to your goals, strengths and weaknesses.

Well the pain is fairly slight and in everyday life even when I do simple things like pull on something. Usually the big 3 don't really bother it too much. Arching for bench, initially getting under the bar for squatting, and closing my belt hurt it a bit. But my strength hasn't been noticeably affected at all and it's just painful when I stretch it in certain ways.

I really don't want to just take time off since I can still do my workouts and am in the middle of a Sheiko block. And it has gotten a bit better compared to a week ago.
