What are you guys reading?
What did you learn today?

If you're reading, do so with a highlighter at hand and post quotes you find valuable or interesting in this thread.

I'll be posting some quotes from Bob Hoffman's "how to be strong, healthy, and happy"

A short discussion on self reliance by Robert Greene:
https://youtu.be/qsjI8dG7Gok
>>
"Not wasting too much time in bed permits you to live longer"

"Too much sleep is not a benefit. Rather it is depressing, causes sluggishness and a state of lethargy. In fact it produces lassitude and may even stupefy the mind"

"It is distinctly unhealthy to overdo in any way. You must contract the habit of moderation in all things if you wish to be strong and healthy. Too much of work, play, rest, or sleep is not good for you. You must hit the happy medium."
>>
>>38044286
"Regardless of your age, you should make it a rule to learn something new each day and to do something each day to improve yourself physically."

"It takes two to fight and if you don't, soon the others will be ashamed of themselves. No matter what happens don't let it disturb you, at least on the surface. Go through the jungles of trouble that may beset you on every side, as calmly, majestically, serenely and powerfully as a huge elephant in his native jungle, which, knowing the he's too big to be harmed by any other animal, leads a calm and happy life."
>>
>>38044334
"Determination self denial and practice all lead to the maintenance of a tranquil mind."

"Do you constantly say, "I can't I'll fail"? Then you have learned to practice evasion and you are permitting yourself to be mentally weak.

Be positive, build positive traits. Know what you want to do and do it. Promise yourself not to let worry, anger, envy, jealousy, hate or any forms of mental restlessness steal into your being."

"Determine to be calm, that you will avoid negative mental processes. Get out and seek real interests, work, hobbies. The best hobby of all is physical training. Concentrate on your activities. Instead of worrying about the future, welcome the opportunity to face problems, ordeals or the battles of life. You can build yourself so that you obtain pleasure from overcoming, from defeating problems, apparently insurmountable difficulties. You can overcome all your difficulties and win. You will find the next encounter easier. You will have greater confidence in your own ability.

Each morning when you arise, repeat this magic formula to yourself: "I will be calm. Nothing can upset me or worry me today. I will not lose my temper, I will overcome all obstacles."

"Don't have mental ups and downs. Do not permit yourself to become too enthusiastic, too excited, over desireous, or covetous. Develop mental stability."

I've been reading the Art of War. It touches a lot on being opportunistic, to take opportunities as they come and to not procrastinate, as attacking early may not be good, but waiting has never been a better move. Don't have the book on me, but it's something like that.

>>
>>38046383
there is actually great harm in reading the wrong material at the wrong time, or any material you are not prepared for.

ideas are powerful, dangerous things.
>>
>>38046399

Fair point.

I feel like im in a turning point in my life, for the first time I am actually working on improving myself.

I find that I want to read a lot, I used to read a lot of fiction and now I want to replace that by reading non fiction, hence the list of books.

How do I avoid filling my mind with bad ideas?
>>
The oxford handbook of philosophy of physics
How the laws of physics lie
A history of political theory
Heidegger: a very short introduction
German for reading
Hegel's philosophy of history
>>
Goals are a very important part of self improvement.

I have made a list of long and short term goals for myself and whenever I have some free time I try to work on these goals.

Also I have a few daily goals like meditating, learning german, practice writing.

Striping a goal of my list works really motivating, I can recommend this to everyone.

I almost got mugged a couple of weeks ago. It shook me up a bit, but I've reached the point where I am somewhat thankful for the wake up call the senseless act of violence gave me. I got my ass back into jiu jitsu, which is a goal I've had for years but couldn't find the time for. I started going to muay thai once a week too, which is something I gave up in frustration after disheartening sparring sessions and injury. Most importantly, the random assault reminded me how unpredictable things are in life. I got out without a bruise or scratch, but that could have been different. Treasure life and spend time wisely (yet here I am, contradictions much). Getting back into martial arts has helped me discover my competitive side and masculinity. I highly recommend doing some kind of martial art to everyone. Teaches humility, dedication and discipline. Anyway, I just started reading some Marcus Aurelius, with the hope that his insights are rightly timed for where I am in life, and might provide some inspiration for keeping focused and disciplined as I take on new endeavors (I start a new job next week and am working on a grad school application portfolio for next year). These threads are under rated. Keep em going.
>>
>>38046447

I recently did a trial lesson of MMA, but I think im going to do muay thai since I already have 11 years of judo experience.

Lessons start in august, looking forward to it.
>>

I'm not in any position to give advice.

But that feeling of finally improving yourself is familiar to me, too. I also used to read a lot as a kid, and when I picked books back up I felt very relieved.
>>
>>38046468

Well I'm just going to need to find out for myself then.

I hope that reading different books will give me different views so I can compare them and see what fits me best.

Some of the books I'm reading confirm thoughts I already had so thats positive I guess.
>>
Stop watching porn, masturbation is fine but do not overdo it. Once or twice a week max.

Porn is like fast food and you should avoid it, that probably means not visiting /b anymore.
>>
>>38043912

I bought this book. It's pretty based, Carnegie knew what was up. He's a better person than I am though, with the whole 'don't criticise people, it's counter productive'. That is not easy.

Been listening to Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche on audiotape while I drive. Tried to read the book itself a few times and it feels like it sinks in better when inflection and tone is presented to me rather than left for me to discern from his meandering sentence structure.

Its very good, so long as you presume it's also painfully self aware. He displays an incredible understanding of human psychology, introspection and motivation for both his time and his profession.

"Whoever has seen deeply into the world has doubtless divined what wisdom there is in the fact that men are superficial. It is their preservative instinct which teaches them to be flighty, lightsome, and false. Here and there one finds a passionate and exaggerated adoration of "pure forms" in philosophers as well as in artists: it is not to be doubted that whoever has NEED of the cult of the superficial to that extent, has at one time or another made an unlucky dive BENEATH it. Perhaps there is even an order of rank with respect to those burnt children, the born artists who find the enjoyment of life only in trying to FALSIFY its image (as if taking wearisome revenge on it), one might guess to what degree life has disgusted them, by the extent to which they wish to see its image falsified, attenuated, ultrified, and deified,—one might reckon the homines religiosi among the artists, as their HIGHEST rank."

It's extremely helpful to mark books that you own. They function as references and resources that you can come back to. In the words of Dale Carnegie, "marking and underscoring a book makes it more interesting, and far easier to review rapidly." Knowledge is a tool, and storing it in a way that makes it easier to get at in the future is very helpful.
>>
>>38046415

Interesting point fellas. I was thinking about this last night as I was reading a chapter in 48 Laws of Power. It's a very interesting book and some people compare it to Carnegie's HtWFaIP, but where HtWFaIP encourages you to be a better person, a good person, I feel like t48LoP encourages you to be a bad person, to be manipulative, duplicitous, dishonest. I sometimes wonder if I should even be reading it.

This is a horrific mish-mash of trash and decent books.

Let me offer a more refined list for "self-help" (please note this is just a basic list whipped up on the spot)

Ethics/Philosophy:
The Story of Philosophy - Bryan Magee
Apology - Plato (try to read Euthyphro before, and Crito and Phaedo after)
Nicomachean Ethics - Aristotle (you may want to read Politics after)
Principal Doctrines - Epicurus (http://www.epicurus.net/en/principal.html)
Letter to Menoecus - Epicurus (http://www.epicurus.net/en/menoeceus.html)
On the Nature of Things - Lucretius
Selected Works - Cicero
Discourses, Fragments, Handbook - Epictetus
Letters from a Stoic; On the Brevity of Life - Seneca
Meditations - Marcus Aurelius
Consolation of Philosophy - Boethius
The Daodejing - Lao Tzu
Zhuangzi - Zhuangzi
In the Buddha's Words: An Anthology of Discourse from the Pali Canon

I know this is mostly classical, but it will suit you well enough. For publishers, go for the following: Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Hackett Publishing.

Fiction/Inspirational/Epics/you know what I mean:

The Iliad & Odyssey - Homer (Fitzgerald, Fagles, or Lattimore are good translations)
The Histories - Herodotus
History of the Peloponnesian War - Thucydides
Anabasis - Xenophon
The History of Rome - Titus Livy
The Gallic Wars - Caesar
The Civil War - Lucan
The Aeneid - Virgil
The Metamorphoses - Ovid
Lives of the Caesars - Suetonius
Lives of Eminent Romans and Greeks - Plutarch
The Cossacks - Tolstoy

Again this is mostly Classical, but there's no point in going through every existent work of literature for a list when these suit the purpose fine. Again, go with university presses for your publisher choice, Penguin are good quality a lot of the time, but sometimes use older translations.
>>
>>38049641

A lot of the more contemporary "Self-Help" books.

My main issue is the mish-mash nature of the list, it jumps from banal guides to world war memoirs. I understand the list is just a shopping list, but I wouldn't advise following it.

Reading: The Power of Habit.
Would recommend.

Learned about the Basal Ganglia. Its an evolutionary very old part of your brain. It looks for cues and rewards. If it finds them it learns and streamlines them into automatic routines. Your brain, when it notices a known cue, goes into a low processing mode that can perform surprisingly complex tasks.
These are utilized by habits.

I've been trying to identify where I can string behaviors and habits together. Like I'm on 4chan because I just finished jerking off and my tendency to stay off this site just plummets. I've also started reading before bed, and studying french before I get out of bed after I wake up. Sleeping is the most consistent cue I can think to build off of, so it seems like a good place to start.

I've always been resistant to the idea of being slave to a routine. Don't want to sink into a monotonous. But knowing that there is an autonomous part of the brain that is pretty damn powerful, it seems like the best move is to work with it and use it as a tool, rather than letting it run haphazardly. Sort of like controlling fire.

I found out today through metacognition that I often fall in to leadership positions in any group activities or work shit. I also realized I hate being the fucking leader, because I'm bad at it. In my experience:
Read in this order:
"no more mr. nice guy"(if needed)
"how to win friends and influence people"
"Model"

Also get shredded as fuck and analyse your surrounding. As soon as you see that people tread you different when you are a sick cunt, it will be a lot easier.
And start to see females as a "not so important" goal in your life.

Taking advice from literally the worst part of reddit. Kys
>>
>>38059738

Their basic advice is:

Sleep well

Lift

Eat healthy

Improve yourself

Dont care too much about women

How is this bad advice?

The only reason you dislike reddit is bacause its another website than this autism containment site.
>>
>>38060012
That's basic advice for being socially functional.

TRP is basically betas being as tryhard as possible. It's one of the most hilarious things on the internet.
>>
>>38060012

Their advice may be good in some cases but most of the times it is bullshit.
No matter what the question is you will always see some idiot saying you should lift and raise your smv.

>my dad is dying and my mom drives me crazy
Lift and raise your smv.

>some bitch is saying I molested her and I'm losing my job
Lift and raise your smv.

This whole subreddit is some pathetic circlejerk. Read the sidebar, the suggested books and some posts. That's it. Leave this shithole. Guess who is giving advice? Some pathetic beings. Same as here on /fit/, most of the guys here are skinny or fat dyel faggots.

I tried meditating but didn't notice much change. What is meant to happen?
>>
>>38060125

Meditate every day for the rest of your life.

There should be some changes to your brain within 8 weeks but you probably wont notice the difference.

Just like with lifting it takes a long time.
>>
>>38060125
I started doing breathing exercises daily (I guess you could call it meditation).

>I'm way more relaxed overall
>I handle stressful situations better
>far less anxiety (before presentations, dates, meetings)
>longer sex sessions (could also be due to my improved stamina, but I have more control over my orgasm, hard to describe)
>>
>>38050375
The Slight Edge also hones in on this, though less technical. It really highlights the incremental power of daily good habits, as well as the ones you think are harmless
>>
>>38051453
Just do it man
I mean think if it was the other way around, if someone took 10 seconds out of your day to ask you the time, would you care? Would you get pissed? Would you think they're intruding your life? No man you'd answer the question and go back to living your life and not even remember their later 15 minutes later. So just what do you think is going to happen when you do it?
Don't make a big thing out of nothing

He just needs to be told when and how to do these things and he's sorted. No biggie.

Honestly when are you people going to learn, there is no such a thing as common sense. If someone doesn't know something yet he's not a failure, he's not beyond help, he just doesn't know something yet.

The only foolproof way that I know of is to read a lot, even "bad" books.
You then have to use *your* intellect and experience to find out what is bad or trash, according to you, your environment and lifestyle.

I'm not saying to ignore the advice of people who recommend "good" books, and by all means, give it a go (HtWFaIP, or the 48LoP); but don't let it prevent you from reading material that you might find interesting. Thinking that a book is good because you were told so (like thinking the Mona Lisa is the best painting in the world because you were taught so for example) is pleb tier and shows a lack of critical thought.

After a while, it becomes easier and easier to sort the good and bad from books.

I read Engineering the Alpha a few years ago, and was able to sort through the cringy stuff (skipping whole chapters sometimes) and kept the stuff that interested me.

If you read Models first you'll probably won't need to read half of the other books on your list.

Also most of these books seem geared towards becoming more attractive, better in bed etc. You're treating the symptoms here, the cause is that you're being a needy insecure faggot and if you stop doing that your life will improve drastically.

>>
>>38065053
I honestly don't know. The signal to noise ratio for female advice must be awful, and a lot of it probably geared towards how to become a triggered landwhale femtard.

I know there is a female pickup artist subreddit, /r/fpua. Maybe that can help you? I dunno.
>>
>>38065053
Depends on your goals, really. Do you want to be feminine, "good wife" and lure the best man you can find? Independent with career?

Most of these books are quite universal, how to be good human bean. How to be "good male" are cringeworthy, they are all about how to dress and so on - you can find "advices" like that for women everywhere.

Looks are more important for women than they are for men. But women's priorities are probably more geared towards having a relationship than the insecure betas on this board who just want to fuck as many girls as they can for validation because their dads never loved them.

So... skincare and diet and nutrition, and possibly therapy?

In fact therapy and resolution of cripping emotional issues would do everyone on this board far more good than lifting.

>>38065439
TRP is a dumpster fire of extremely butthurt men all circlejerking together over how shit women are, and wrapping a shitty half-baked philosophy around their crippling emotional issues, which is basically the same victim-complex you'll find on /r9k/ but with an element of self improvement mixed in. Self improvement, i.e. striving to become 'alpha', because nothing says 'alpha male' like rearranging your entire life around seeking validation and the approval of women through sex.

Its like a support group for people who have been traumatised and maimed by horrific car accidents. Except they all sit around talking about cars all day, how they hate cars and cars are fundamentally unsafe and can't ever be driven for any length of time without involving their driver in a twisted burning wreck on the highway... but they simultaneously want to borrow/steal as many cars as possible for joyrides because its the only way they can feel good about themselves.

Its a mess in there, and there are far more wholesome approaches to self improvement than letting your brain marinade in that pissmist of negativity.

At first, I was like that as well, I didn't understand what was supposed to happen. This led to me stopping and not trying again but over time, I would try meditation during days I felt overwhelmed and for some reason it was so helpful in relieving me. Since I noticed that effect it had on me, I have been consistently doing it everyday or try to (I skip some days due to laziness) Some sessions will be better than others so expect that much. I will emphasize the point just about anyone who meditates will tell you, practice it everyday. It doesn't matter too much how long you do it, but just try to do it everyday. This way you'll experience it often enough to begin recognizing some of its effects. As opposed to doing it on random days where you'll forget the experience of the last session. I'll also add that the sessions can be quite soothing as you're doing it, so that's some incentive to practice it (it's kind of like a natural high like exercising)

Which countries are really safe for foreign tourists? i don't want to go anywhere dangerous
>>
>>38066723
Nowhere. No, for real. Nowhere.
Foreigners are welcomed in SE Asia simply because they're foreign. To their eyes, you have money and if you have money, you can be their friend or family member. If you have no money, they'll treat you like shit. Even worse, if you have too much of it, you'll become an open target for pretty much anyone. The Philippines is a good example of this.

Just keep reading and think.

>y-y-you know nothing about m-my reddit beta support group circlejerk cult! y-you're lying

No, this is my conclusion after having spent some time there when I was a bitter angry faggot, and having grown and moved on to more wholesome and less butthurt-driven forms of self-improvement.

Lets have a look at the subreddit and see what they have to say for themselves...

>Uncle Vasya’s Guide On Dating Models [TRP ENDORSED]
Because you can't get that sweet validation unless you're pedistalizing the women you're trying to date. Such tips in that thread include:
>-You will discover you no longer need reservations...anywhere.
i.e. use the fact that you're dating a model as the basis of your confidence, because her approval has validated you as a person.

Further down we have:
>Understanding woman: Part 9 – Vanity, Vindictive behaviour and Transgressions
8 rants weren't enough, this is part 9. Even the title is salty and obviously being written by someone who spent a decade in the friendzone. Remember you can't be redpilled unless you're a bitter angry little faggot who believes that 50% of the human race is irredemably shit, while still wanting to sleep with them and altering all of your behaviour towards that goal. But yeah, if you're a shitty person, you will attract shitty people, and shitty women, and this will be your experience of women and you'll end up writing posts adding yet another hand to the circlejerk

The rest of the subreddit is literred with MRA and anti-feminist bleating that would be good for starting threads on r9k and, while I agree that feminism is stupid, that still really has no place in a self-improvement context. Any good advice that you find here can be found elsewhere, without being encrusted with the dried salt of a thousand angry permavirgin tears.

That place is not good for your emotional wellbeing. I hope you move on soon.

Sleeping your 7-8 hours is pretty important, especially at the age of most fitizens.

Most based is getting your 7.5/8 hrs by hitting the hay early as you can and waking up with the sunrise (or before it if work is forcing you to do so).
>>
>>38060012
Redpill has the general ideas down, but they're bitter about it, and they WILL turn you bitter. They will seriously make you antisocial autistic because you'll be paranoid of women, minorities, friends, and society in general.

>>38067361
sleeping 7-8 hours is important when you're a id still growing. Now that you're a fully developed adult, sleeping is less of a requirement.

You can easily go the rest of your life sleeping only 5-6 hours per night

>>38067452

>>38067357
Reading is useless if you don't apply what you learned. Like you can't read a book about painting and then suddenly know how to paint, you have to practice and incorporate the techniques you've learned.

I read Models, I found it helped me approach girls more, because it helped me identify when I was being a bitch and making excuses, or holding back because I couldn't think of anything to say. Now I just go up to them without thinking and say hi and introduce myself and see what happens. And it actually works... also no I don't look like Chris Pine, I look like Zach Galifianakis

>I'm interested in joining toastmasters to get over my fear of public speaking. Maybe it will help me fake being outgoing. Has anyone on /fit/ done toastmasters? What did you think? Is it worth?

You might as well be reading a book right now, because instead of trying the thing you want to try, you're here asking us, like we'd fucking know. You're getting a faint sense of accomplishment as you ask us this dumb question, but really you're just making excuses and wasting your time.

- trying to get new contacts, actively creating situations (organising events such as campings, I'm going to give away my spare chilli seedlings tomorrow through adv on my local facebook group, some time ago I gave my spare pet worms)

I have ADHD, so routine is something I need in order to function. Otherwise I'm a dishelveled mess, leave things undone, then get anxious, depressed, and nonfunctional. I developed a lot of my strategies while unmedicated - being medicated just makes shit easier to get started and helps me feel rewarded.

Stringing things together is key. My routines don't make life monotonous. I still do fun shit - my routines enable me to get the stuff done I need to do, then allow me to relax.

Wake up, take my vyvanse, walk the dog. During the walk my meds start to kick in. I think about what I'm going to do today. Get back, grab a cup of coffee and use the notes app on my phone and start a checklist. I go by events (places I need to be), tasks (things I need to get done) and reminders (upcoming events and tasks that aren't urgent but need to be kept in mind).

After this I'm usually ready to go. I eat breakfast, clean up the house, do any chores that need to be done. If I'm going to the gym that day I'm out the door then, otherwise I usually have about 2 hours to myself before work starts. I get a head start and take a shower, wash up. Sometimes I read, browse the web, tend my garden, do anything that my homebrewing needs (sample, test, transfer, keg, etc.), or play vidya.

Likewise at night, when I get home, usually the only thing I have to do is put away the dishes from dinner, take out trash, etc. I pack my lunch if I have work and my gym bag if I'm going the next day.

That's the extent of my routine - bookends to my day. A lot of successful people do the same, I eliminate unnecessary choice and run on autopilot so that the rest of my day I'm charged up to make decisions and act.

looking for excuses much? They can - and will - reduce your problem. Now you can either do it slowly (2-3 years) so your skin get in place, do it fast and get surgery later, or you can do nothing and die at the age of 40.

And to re-iterate, it won't do much of anything.

Your lack of understanding of physiology is really your downfall.

> you've contradicted nearly all popular medical opinion

yes, show me studies then - how much weight can you loss without saggy skin, and then studies on the same subject with collagen supplements. Guess there are none.
>>
>>38068290

You're asking me to provide sources for things you're arguing for? What?
>>
>>38068392
You said it's impossible to significally reduce saggy skin after weight loss, using collagen supplements and prolonging process up to 3 years. What you're saying is basically "you'll get the same flaps if you get your weight down in 3 months and 3 years, no matter if you use skin supplements or not", which is not true.
>>
>>38068071
I don't think there's any fear, it's just kind of...distaste? I dunno, shit seems lame, if you have to alter your mindset that much for sex, you were probably a sack o shit to begin with.
>>
>>38068421

So your logic is once the fibres have been destroyed .. and oral supplementation is going to reverse that.

Odd theory, again, car accident but it'll be right mate new coat of paint and it'll be brand new.

No.

3 years? If your skin hasn't recovered in 6 months then it's unlikely to ever recover. Collagen cycling occurs by weeks, not years.

You sound HEAVILY invested in this very odd/biologically unsound strategy.

I'm guessing you're currently very obese and in the process of losing weight yourself, and naturally you're feeling insecure about your future and potential loose skin.

Best advice is to start saving so once you've lost the weight you'll be able to afford some skin removal and contouring.

Best of luck.

>once the fibres have been destroyed

but they aren't, at least not usually. They are destroyed during RAPID weight gain (i.e. pregnancy), but not otherwise. This is why you can literally triple your arm girth without stretch marks. And this is why ex-bodybuilders aren't covered with saggy skin.

Sure, if you are very fat and quite old (i.e. above 40), your saggy skin remains saggy. But for young people without very excessive weight (below 120 kg) who use collagen supplements, it IS possible to get the shit done without surgery.

>No, this is my conclusion after having spent some time there when I was a bitter angry faggot, and having grown and moved on to more wholesome and less butthurt-driven forms of self-improvement.
So you are already biased and didn't listen to what they had to say, only for what you wanted hear.

The first thing they recommend for new beginners is bettering yourself, understand any psychological problems that you might have and fix them to become a better person, self-improvement and LIFTING is the very first thing that literally anyone over at TRP will tell you to do first. Then comes the part of acceptance of how the current world is, from economics to sexuality, the definition of what it means to be a man and so on. At no circumstances have I read any woman bashing or encouragement to feel anger towards women. They even name phases that some of the newbies that take The Red Pill feels, after all the anger is out, next comes acceptance and a way for you to deal with the cards you have been given.

I wasn't wrong when I called you a liar, it doesn't matter because you or someone else already skewed your point of view and your argument doesn't come from a logical well thought out analysis of what TRP is about.

>anti-feminist bleating that would be good for starting threads on r9k and, while I agree that feminism is stupid, that still really has no place in a self-improvement context.
Read again what you just said, slowly and realize how stupid it sounds.

>This is why you can literally triple your arm girth without stretch marks.

What the fuck are you talking about, jesus.

> And this is why ex-bodybuilders aren't covered with saggy skin.

See: Arnold Schwarzenegger

You're conflating stretch marks, i.e.rapid weight gain, with prolonged obesity which is related to elastin.

The point is your collagen supplements will do nothing appreciable to prevent or reverse loose skin.

You're perpetuating wives tales which half-truth biological science into luring gullible and desperate idiots into purchasing their products.

The only proven way to not get loose skin is to not gain excessive weight in the first place.

The only proven way to correct loose skin is via excision.

These are the facts, and they are not disputed.

One of the first things they tell you is not to change to have sex.

The most important thing in your lofe in you and your self development.

If you improve your life sex will follow, but its not the main focus.

You are the focus.

Many people here do not thoroughly read what TRP is trying to say and then start bashing it.

Also they dont hate women, they look at them for what they are and then tell you to put your focus on yourself NOT on women.

My first 2 years of university I did jack shit and basically wasted my life due to continuing depression. But this summer I started therapy and some meds and I just finished a semester of summer school and got a B and an A-. An A- is the best grade in a chemistry course I've ever gotten in university. It isn't much in terms of helping my gpa because combined the courses were 3 credit hours, but I'm feeling kind of proud of myself. I got a good grade in one of the hardest chem courses I've taken.

I think I've also been able to break past the point of complete apathy. I feel like I actually want to go to school, like I want to learn, like I want to socialize, make friends, volunteer, join clubs, be a functioning human. I want to read, re-learn piano, get better at music production, get a better body and make progress in the gym.

I think if I continue this path I can end up where I want to be, lads. At this point, dental school looks like a long shot due to my shit gpa. Idk if it's still possible but I'm still going to try. I used to want to be a surgeon, but when I became depressed I lost all of my hope, yearning and motivation for that. But now I feel like I could do it. Maybe instead of dental school I could try for med school. I know it sounds stupid, to just decide "hey I want to go to med school" in your 3rd fucking year of university, but i feel like the dreams of the younger me are worth being fulfilled. I feel that if I just put in hard work, have faith, stay focused and just try my best then I'll get where I need to be.

I'm feeling more hopeful now than I ever have, lads. And I think that's the greatest part about all this.

We're all gonna make it.

It blows my mind how some idiots defend TRP.
I subscribed to TRP when the subreddit had around 15.000 users. I really liked it because you had some grown up man who had life experience and knew their shit giving advice and had no problem to discuss it.

I've read the best posts of the year last month and believe me it is a shithole. Even endorsed contributor write some conflicting articles and if you look at the post history of some users who are giving advice you'll see what a pathetic faggot gets most upvoted. Why should I listen to the advice of an idiot who was manipulated by a single mom two months prior?

TRP has a few good points such as not letting women be a main priority on your life, getting your shit together and how to act more masculine, have confidence in yourself, but don't be a cunt, and so on.

However, literally every philosophy can have this from Objectivism, Feminism, Communism, Fascism, so on and so forth. TRP is good for maybe a day or 2 where you get exposed to a new state of mind and incorporate it into your own view of the world. Outside of that, it is nothing more than ass blasted dudes upset they bent over backwards for sloot pussy. Hell, I can't think of a time I've seen a Red Pill video on YouTube and the person who made it wasn't some chubby, decent looking nerd with a half decent beard.

The book develops a bit on that and explains how to criticise tactfully. There a difference between telling someone " this is wrong, and you're a failure" and "this part is good, but do you think that part could use a little more work or modification?"

Then again it depends on the context and people. I'm no soldier or surgeon, but I suppose those guys want a straight to the point answer or critique, no room for diplomacy in those cases.
Personally I don't mind bluntness when it comes from Someone knowledgeable. Especially if they explain the mistake. But if your a dumbass who's wrong and blunt...

brain training apps and websites are a clever ruse that tricks you into believing you are getting smarter but in reality you are just getting better at playing a video game.

you could honestly get the same benefit from playing regular video games with similar formats.

if you need someone else to tell you how you should be sorting your priorities you probably aren't a real adult yet. once you have real bills and actually need to work, everything else sort of falls into place. i quit after 6 years of functioning alcoholism without even knowing it because i had to pick up a second job and ended up working 75 hours a week and couldnt afford to drink or had the time. as for women, its way easier to approach them when you know youre a responsible human being that has a lot to offer. at this point i dont take most women my age seriously because they are too immature to take care of themselves, let alone be mature enough to handle a serious relationship.

you can't just become confident in yourself by reading some words or listening to some CD.

you need to be able to look in the fucking mirror and see someone you consider respectable. if you can't respect yourself, you need to figure out wtf you need to be doing better.

my advice would be to either find a job, find a better job, and/or work towards a real career. consider a 3-5 year plan.

if lack of motivation is your issue, then you have way more to work on probably starting with regular basic hygiene. typically i find anons on this board that aren't confident or motivated typically are early on in their lifts or haven't started. if you're a fat fuck, you need to start by getting out of bed at the same time every single morning. force yourself out of bed and start your routine. escape manchild mode. do your chores, laundry, cook for yourself. be a fucking person every day. not a fat sack of shit.

Dudes in jail are often driven to workout for obvious reasons, but many are also driven to the books because a) there's very little to do and b) they want to gain some insight about society and why they're in there and not someone else.

George Jackson, Edward Carr, Malcolm X and a number of other militants from that tradition were all radicalized in jail. Some people enter prison virtually illiterate and end up authors like Edward Bunker. I don't know how common it is, but it happens.

Meanwhile, the intersection between regular people who take interests in the humanities and people who are into fitness is virtually non-existing. So I'm curious about what may have driven you towards that.

a lot of how young men are raised in modern day to deal with women is very.. very wrong. look at all the garbage fed to them on tv, movies, media, and what their beta dads/bitchy ball busting moms fill their heads with. most of them will never find that information to begin with.

I'd say to anyone who ventures into there, just grab the information you need and then gtfo. the sidebar is good, and also the evo bio/psych information is very useful too (example: AF/BB dynamics, mating schedules, biologically driven reasons for infidelity, etc.). a lot of the blue pill examples or things like that you see IRL are explained well through that kind of lens. it's a good way to prevent getting your shit fucked up, but no need to stay around and have circlejerks with angry people.

Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, more mysterious, than the bland and timid masses."

This guy loves cocaine, for sure.

I want to learn a new language but i'd like to learn one that would help me in my field (agronomy / agriculture engineering)
I already speak english and portuguese. I'd like to work overseas preferably in a country that supports organic farming however it's almost impossible to learn a nordic language by myself since where i live don't have swedish/danish courses
Any suggestions?

Acha que alemão seria uma boa?

Does anyone have advice for getting the energy to do stuff after work?

I work 3 days a week (contract job, only 19) from 8:30am to 4:30pm. In the door around 5 for dinner and then i just watch tv or listen to music. I have all kinds of things I want to do like practicing my programming skills, or getting jacked, but I'm always so mentally exhausted.

Any advice? I've asked coworkers about it and they've just said stuff like "you'll grow into it" or "it gets easier when you're older". I work in an office, it isn't like I'm running out of breath all day, but I still get exhausted. I have 1 cup of coffee around 10am or so, I don't like having any more or I get jittery as a mother fucker.

Read "The Power of Habit". It's essentially about designing habits, which is almost like hacking your brain. Forming habits makes things non-conscious and require less effort and willpower.

Currently i'm reading :
Infantry Attacks by Rommel
Panzer leader by Heinz Guderian
Designing games by Tynan Sylvester

That would probably go well with me, I appreciate order and shit. Is it hard to read? I'm not exactly stupid, but my reading comprehension isn't great and long books or ones that are really verbose confuse me pretty badly.

Also do you think forming those habits will increase energy to do things spontaneously, that aren't necessarily part of your habits?
For instance, right now I've been telling friends im busy just cause I'm so mentally shot. I don't want to just be able to practice my programming and workout every night, i want to get to the point where I can do anything that gets thrown at me.

Are you sleeping and eating well.

Your diet has a huge influence on your day to day life.

Look to see if you are eating whole non processed foods.

Also cardio will increase your energy throughout the day.

>tfw public accountant working 80-100 hour weeks during busy season

Brah you just gotta sack up and do shit instead of just wasting time.

After working all day the last thing i want to do is anything that involves thinking, but i'm studying 4 hours a night to finish my CPA license.

I'd suggest doing all exercise in the morning, so that is one less thing to worry about at night. Also, start meditating if you are not already. After work it can really help clear your mind and I always feel somewhat rested after meditating.

Tbh idk how you are struggling working only 3 days a week, did you ever have an actual job before this?

>Did you ever have a job before this
No, throughout highschool I was in and out of the hospital and on and off medications, too sick to hold any job. I've been doing this one since February but only started getting paid in June. You would think I'd have adapted by now. In any case I'm done in a month and then I'm going to university

Major props for working the amount that you do. Any resources on how to meditate? I've tried in the past but wasn't really sure how to tell whether I was doing it right or not.

There is an app called Headspace which is really good for beginners, it has 10 free 10 minute guided meditations. I also like Tara Brach's podcasts; she is a spiritual retreat speaker. A lot of what she releases are just "talks" but i find her very calming, and every now and then she will release guided meditations. There is also a starting sit /fit/ inforgraph that has a lot of the basics.

And good luck at uni, after going through school and working a part time job, the 9-5 office life will be easy. Shoot for that 4.0 GPA, everyone you are in class with is your future competition in the job market.
