There are plenty of free websites to learn. If you major in computer science then they'll teach you. The more languages you know, the better and more marketable you will be. If you're a good programmer, you can make a lot for just starting out. Not sure how IT is compared to programming, but I would think it would pay less. Currently a clinical research facilitator at a major hospital and just had an interview as an assistant toxicologist at the medical examiner's (coroners) office. Currently make about 32k/year. Not phenomenal but not horrible for some people straight out of college. I know plenty of people with their degree that are doing nothing related to their field of study, or are still bartending/barista mode.
18 leaves you plenty of time to figure out what it is you want to do and get there. Don't fall into the wagecuck trap of thinking you have to have your entire life planned by the time you graduate secondary and have a fully stocked 401k by 25.
