most sports science is so far out from what weightlifers/powerlifters actually do that when a paper is actually concerned with the movements in either sport, it doesn't take someone with more than a few months of lifting experience to spot a glaring flaw

then again /fit/ is content with copypasting a conclusion in an abstract instead of reading the paper so i guess that may not be so obvious

but if there's a book like SS filled to the brim with citations from well done studies then i'd like to see it

most of SS is concerned with developing a mechanical model for efficient movement and applying it to the five lifts. i'm asking if there's a book like that with citations for the efficacy of the movements

I used to think no, now I think probably yes. The strongest counterargument I think would be Spoto, but (and not to IPF memeshill too hard) I think his goddam ridiculous absurd triceps allow him to use that narrower grip more effectively. The goal is not to have the widest grip the goal is to bench the most weight. That might seem obvious but I think alot of people confuse the two. Another one is people who think the goal is to have the widest sumo start position.

Most people do best with a moderate grip.

Most people are not above average. Most people have not tried maximum grip for a significant amount of time. Most people are not aware that while squatting and deadlifts have tradeoffs that mean an easier ROM in one plane is sacrificed for a more difficult ROM in another, benching relies much more on minimising the angle between the upper arm and the fan-shaped pectorals.

I did some heavy deadlifts

as usual I did them right after squats because otherwise I have either overlap or reduced training frequency.

anyway, I actually felt very good that day and I wanted to set a new 3RM PR. but then already during squat warmup I felt weak. I tried to deadlift anyway and I already struggled with the warmup again.

no idea why I was so piss weak that day but again I was too proud to go easy

the first rep felt heavy as fuck, I could barely lift it. then came the second rep... holy fuck that was the ugliest deadlift I have ever done in my entire life. usually I am known in my gym for my back that never bends. but that rep I had such extreme back rounding and at such a heavy weight. but not only was it rounding, my back also changed a lot during the lift, further destabilizing and putting more pressure on the spine.

after that I actually aborted my deadlift session and moved on to accessoires. I was scared that I fucked up my back. but my back feels fantastic.

what is going on? I thought that shitty diddy form would send you to snabbedi city.
