I've got the basic HY haircut, and I'm tired of it being so neat everytime I put product in it. I have very thick, straight hair, that slightly waves when I blowdry it. How do I still style it back but get a more messier, tossled look? Picrelated. I currently use Hanz De Fuccboi's Claymation. Any tips?

Get some of that old spice matte paste they sell in that red container at wal mart. it's cheap as fuck but it doesn't make it look super neat or whatever, it makes it look like there is no product in your hair but you can style it however you want, messy, whatever.

I've tried a ton of different hair products but only two pomades: American Crew and Murray's. AC doesn't have a lot of hold, unless I'm just supposed to use more. Murray's doesn't shine like pic related, and I've experimented a bit with quantities.
What other pomades are there? I've never seen any in stores or anything other than the two mentioned

It's just preference. Just short looks more heritage-style, reserved, classic. Goes with a suit really easily.
Buzzed is more modern, street or high fashion style. Designed to catch the eye more, instead of being more gentle like the former. It'd also require regular upkeep, maybe even every few days if you want it a very specific length, but probably every couple weeks or weekly.

alright /fa/ I need help from anyone who has really straight hair.

A couple years ago I buzzed it all off (pic related) and it stood out literally all around my head. I don't have a crown or anything. It lies down a little bit on the back.

Now, I've had my hair relatively longer and been doing a side part thing for a while. But I just got some Murray's and I want to try having short, choppy, kinda messy but with a general direction hair.

Will it be possible to do this with my type of hair, even with blowdrying and strong product? Or is it gonna stick up in the back if short no matter what? Assume that my hair is the absolute worst to control when short


Also, winter's coming for me. Should I just wait until spring to go shorter; does hair length really make a difference on temperature?

I would say keep the sides short and let the top grow out a good length

if it's straight it should lay flat after a few inches, if it doesn' you'll have a non-curly jewfro which is weird

I have grown it out plenty. I dunno if you meant with or without product, but without product it still loves to stick up after a few inches. If I buzzed it and let it grow, I probably would have a non-curly jewfro for a while, at least without product. I mean I buzzed it pretty short and even then it looked like I had a fro. Kinda wish I could erase photos and memories of that from existence.

if you try and do it visually you will take an absolute eternity and probably fuck it up worse. go by the feeeling and you'll be OK

to change the direction your hair grows:

get a boar bristle brush and some kind of oil. i always rec coconut oil. comb a good amount of oil through your hair and rub it into your scalp. use the boar bristle brush and brush your hair into the direction you want it to grow. when youre done, shampoo the brush clean. id say do this 2-3 times a week. youre also going to have to use the boar bristle brush very often. when you wake up, before you go to bed, and whenever youre doing nothing and have a free hand basically.

the coconut oil and brushing is also going to help with the growing it out part. its also going keep your curls from being less frizzy.

I wouldn't suggest doing it on your own, but if you have to. Cut your sides and back short(if you want your sides like picrelated, I'd say go with a 1 guard) and cut all around. It'd probably be too difficult for you to create a fade like his, fades take lots of practice and are pretty much impossible to do on your own head. Make sure to leave all the length on the top alone, I'd say his top is probably about 5 1/2 to 6 inches.

You're still gonna need a bit of product though for a little hold. What would be best? I've tried matte waxes, but they make my hair look like straw, and I'm not a fan of pomades. I know you're supposed to leave it for a few days and layer it, but by the second day my hair just looks greasy as fuck and thin and gross.

I'm thinking something more like a cream or something, but I don't have much experience with them and can't attest to their holding power.
