Is it possible to pull off the square toe?

Also would I have to avoid anything skinny on the legs because it'll overaccantuate the boxyness (skinny is going out, but still)?
>>

Do you want to try to pull them off because you actually like them or because they're Rick and on sale

Want to get a long lasting and sturdy but still somewhat fashionable leather boot. Heard a lot about Red Wing and Chippewa. What would you guys recommend?
>>
>>12672441
I don't care about Rick, but I do want to try and pull them off because I really want harness boots and they are indeed on sale. I'll try them on in person when I get back to Toronto but I want a preliminary opinion
I think it can work the way I'm seeing it now, but it might be different when I have them on feet and am wearing the type of trouser I'd wear with them.
>>
>>12672458
Find a local artisan and get something custom made for yourself
>>
>>12672460
Also at this point I've looked at them so much and thought about what I'd wear so much that I just can't think straight about them at all
>>

Would those boots look retarded on a short girl?
>>
>>12672458
I bought that exact boot last year on sale at burgundy shoes coincidentally. anywho, they are fedora shoes, returned them. also chippewa is garbage
>>
>>12672466
Nah, tall boots on short girls are cute. If you're like freakishly short don't though, don't wanna make yourself look smaller than you already are and I'd only really recommend if you're attractive, otherwise you'll just look a freak

>>12672438
I really hate square toed shoes so I'd sag definitely not. Didn't SLP do something very similar ?
>>
>>12672488
Yeah, if I could get SLP harness boots (I'd actually get Jodhpur or London before harness but regardless) I would, but I'm not about dropping more than $1000 on a pair of boots

I have some red wing iron rangers, got them like 3-4 years ago. They're great, very comfy after you get them broken in and overall worth the money. I mean, at the end of the day, they're brown leather boots, if you get something quality and take care of them, they're gonna last you and do a good job of looking like nice brown leather boots.

Compared to boots made of leather

Honestly my ranking of boots:

+ Doc martens = leather autism trench coat

+ Red wings = sjw/male femnist reddit user liberal arts college kid who wears gap and shit like bonobos thinking he looks amazing

+ Chelsea : effminate obnoxious kid "into fashion" who wears because he saw SLP shoes once and thinks any black Chelsea boot with any skinny strech cotton/spandex motorcycle pant = Heidi.

Engineer boots: slightly older reddit user slightly autistic fascination with STEM because he thinks being associated with "science" the marketing term makes him smart. Watches big bang theory thinks it's smart comedy, collects anything with a NASA logo, reposts bullshit space photos, collects fuunko pop figures from movies and TV shows that he really doesn't know or care about....like.dr.who and game of thrones. Has only had 4-5 sex partners 2-3 of them being 3-5/10 chubby awkward not indemand chicks he's had really fucking long term relationships with because he can't do any better.

How do I make my Docs not look like stupid retard boots? The laces look like they go too far between eyelets and expose too much of the tongue. The tongue looks stupid and bulgy on its own, but when I dorsiflex my foot, the tongue juts out and pushes the eyelets futher apart. Also when I walk for like 30 minutes, the tongues usually shift way over to the side and you just see my pant leg in place of the leather. I've had them for a few weeks, are they just not broken in yet?
or did I buy into a meme boot?
>>
>>12674676
1. You got unlucky with the quality.
2. They gavent broken in yet.
3. You're doing something wrong.

Mine did all that shit too at the start but now the tongue doesnt get displaced ever and I can tighten them up much more.

boot noob here. im probably gonna get shit on for asking such a dumb question but if I buy 6 inch boots, should I be cuffing or tucking in my boots so you can see the entire boot?

ive never really worn shoes that went past my ankles so i dunno how I should be wearing stuff like that to make it look good. im assuming shoes that go past your ankle, you want to show them off, right?

Sorry for ignoring you I hadn't seen the reply.
Not Made in England, these are 1919s, not 1460s. They have steel toe and 10 holes, 1460s have 8 holes and no steel toe.
They hold up pretty well except for the leather starting to wear around the toe heavily and where its broken in, I dont mind it, it's not fucking up the boot, much less in the toe.
For some reason DM pulled these out just as I was going to buy them so I got them off a reseller, they didnt even liquidate stocks, I dokt understand their online page, they also seemingly pulled out the non MiE 14 hole 1914 boots (which were the second modt popular model after the 1460 and a classic).
They do weird stuff.

They look beaten, and beaten Docs look the best. OPs pic is actually my pair of 1914s with steel-toe caps on 'em. How often do you wear your and do you wear them throughout the year? I wore my 1490s until they started to get splits behind the toecaps (soft toe-caps) and that was just after 4-6 months of wear through snow, rain and summer. Yours look to be in a really decent condition for 2 years of wear.

The weather here is gentle enough, even though Im moving to the mountain soon. The boots are full of scratches and other shit rather than being generally worn out, and it could also be the flash.

The toe is specially very worn out, but the bootd themselves are fine. I'm a fat lazy shit and I live in buttfuck nowhere for now without anyone I can inmediately poke and go out around so when Im walking with these its when I go out or when Im some place like when I was in school, so I guess thats why they arent that worn. I think they will take a spin when I move out because of the harsher climate.

Here you can see that they are wearing out where broken in behind the steel toe and other stuff.

Fun fact, these laces I bought at the London's original DM shop and the clerk was a massive supporter of Solovair's over docs. They also have some scratches because I kicked in a safety glass window once during 2016 summer shenanigans and my foot was stuck for a moment.
>>
>>12678340
They look tight. You a RASH, trad, etc...?

And yeah, imo it goes like this;

Solovairs>>actual vintage Docs (pre-2003)>>>>vintage-line Docs>>>>>>>>>>>>chink-Docs

Your boots like that, consider polishing them at least once though, they'd look even nicer.
>>
>>12678360
I'll just stick some wonder balsam up their ass sometime soon.

I consider myself a RASH, even though I do not identify with american meme politics or le cuck left may may.

Yeh, I don't mind skinheads. Effay as fuck for sure, but I don't really hang out with them.
>>

I dont hang around with skinheads either because Im about 1 generation late to the scene here, but I do hang around with punks and metalheads. I dont think the subculture does the person to be honest. You just adapt to what you feel like.
>>
>>12678394
Yeah I can understand that. And I know how you feel, subcultures aren't thing at my city either, so I tend to hang out with very mixed groups of people. The only "united" skinheads I know of are the racist ones, and those are the kind that tried to fight me in Kamppi because they thought I was a "filthy crustie".
>>
>>12678520
Yeah, but that's more of a thing because they pick the skinhead thing as a cult shit based om their "ideology" because they are literally retarded.

There is nothing skinhead with boneheads.
>>
>>12678523
Exactly. But I live in Finland, the skinhead-culture that arrived here wasn't inspired by the trads, more by the European Nationalist-shitheads.

I don't have a problem with skinheads, but you just don't meet or see them as often as you'd think. That's why most people in our country associate skinheads with racism, violence and oppression.

Me and my friend were just talking next to the entrance and this one skin (prob drunk) walked onto me, pushed me as if I had pushed him and obviously tried to start a rumble by taunting at me. His buddies, 4 or 6 guys were just lurking the situation from the side, I was flustered at the situation and run-walked into the R-Kioski. Does tucking into 6 inch boots really look that bad even if the boots are the same color as the denim? I feel like wearing black boots and cuffing black jeans doesn't really "show off" the boot, but tucking my jeans into them makes the silhouette a little less clunky. Whenever I tuck my jeans into my boots, I tie them as tightly as possible so it doesn't look like >>12680757

It'll only make your legs look shorter, be careful to keep the silhouette and possibly colors too consistent all the way down. Tucking skinny jeans into boots should be OK for your legs though.

I'm sure some of you have Danner boots. What are your thoughts on them?
I was looking at a pair of mountain lights for both hiking and winter use. Thought about the dark brown ones initially, but I think I wear too much black for that to be a good idea. I'm interested in how the leather holds up for both black and brown boots.

Killing your heels is unavoidable. I usually just wear them all day every day for the first two weeks (absolutely kills) but then they're completely fine after that. Fastest way to break them in. my china-made all-black docs were absolutely battered after only a year of regular use and abuse (that's a single winter)
the leather where the foot creases the boot was gone to shit and there were holes big enough to touch my socks... but I could've lived with that. the bad part is that the sole itself had cracked all along the width, left to right, again where the foot creases. any time I'd step in a little puddle the water would go right up and my socks would get wet.
you get what you pay for, and you pay for shit

The reason for the cost is up to material quality, construction, and first-world labor mainly. A more expensive boot can also be recrafted once the sole wears down if it has a welted construction and high-quality leather, and it's not unexpected for good boots to last 6+ years with regular use and care. $300 is considered entry-level.

Solovairs are the same quality as vintage Docs. With adequate balsaming and polishing, they should last you a while. However, don't wear them everyday through every season, these kinds of boots hate snow, heavy rain, mud and cold temperatures (around -10C and below that). Let them dry out and rest after a day of wear and brush dirt and dust off them after every wear. If you dig the Docs you got, then go for it. Remember tho, greasy over hi-shine leather.

EBay search Austrian paratrooper boots/go on google or millsurp stores and search them then buy the cheapest

They're the ones that look like memeboots

There's only two variants, the winter ones which are bulky because they're lined and have lugs for the laces, and the regular (meme) ones, which are just leather and have half eyelets half speed hooks. Honestly both are pretty nice for what they are imo - the memes a plain, simple leather boot, the winter variant a heavier and warmer boot

For anyone interested in wearing Jungle Boots I have some tips.
Watch out for Chinese fakes, Jungle boots seem to be the number one boot to make bootleg copies of, the quality of the fakes is abysmal and will usually say made in China INSIDE the boot. Always check in person for the stitching on the heel of the boot, its a telling sign that it is legit.

Size wise, Jungle's are very close to your regular shoe size, unlike most military garments there is no tricky oversizing going on here. My Jungle/sneaker shoe size is 7, on a pair of Doc Martens my size is a 6. You can always find the size on the bottom of the boots across from the "Ro-Search" branded sole marker. The soles on Jungle boots are a very hard rubber that can easily last 2 years of CONSTANT wear (I wear mine for work, school, hiking, dates etc.) However this hard rubber (along with a steel plate along the bottom of the shoe) make it very hard on your feet. Make sure to get insoles or inserts for Jungle Boots, otherwise your feet WILL suffer. I personally like using Superfeet Green, you can have a someone size you up and cut them to size at a local REI.

I recommend replacing the laces on your Jungles when you first get them as well. The waxy laces most jungles come with are crap, I personally cut out some 550 Paracord to the length I need and just burn the ends to make my new laces, Paracord is strong yet somewhat flexible on top of having a smooth weave that lets it slide around the metal eyelets of boots easily, cutting down on how long it takes to lace up and down.

Here's the side profile compared to my new pair of Doc's. If you're used to Doc Martens I cannot stress enough how different the soles are in Military Boots, they are HARD and not squishy at all, you need to make sure to get good inserts and toughen up your feet and knees.

For maintenance of the leather, some black kiwi shoe polish will do the job just fine, my boots are in poor shape because I didnt do the effort to maintain them properly.
The fastest way to break in Jungle Boots is to get them wet and wear them around till they dry. Make sure to wear dark wool socks during this process, most jungle boots still leak excess olive green dye since they have been sitting in storage for 30 or more years and have never been worn before. If you want a modern pair of Jungles there are only a couple manufacturers left like Altama or McRae. Hope this helps any anons who want a relatively cool looking yet functional boot. And the canvas uppers make it one of the most comfortable and breathable military boots out there.

I've never really understood the need for insoles but I guess if you want you can. Seems like a bad idea buying boots that fit you with insoles because then you have to wear insoles at all times and your buying boots that are too big for you. It also seems like itd stop you wearing in the soles of your boots properly meaning you can never get that level of comfort a well worn boot gives you. Also you won't notice it if you find a pair that fit you brilliantly or are really comfortable for you
>>
>>12692239

Rothco is definitely shit yes, they are the made in china boots with their logo melted into the soles total garbage with faux leather and flimsy uppers. There is very little difference between an OG pair and the expensive newer versions from Altama or McRae. Altama recently got a contract by the govt to start making Jungle Boots again and the "new" Jungle 2 boots look amazing. The problem is...we cant buy any, all production has gone into supplying the military and govt contractors so nobody knows when we will be able to purchase them. If you have any reputable army surplus places near you I would recommend those places first to check for boots. Beware though, there are so many awful army surplus places selling made in china rothco shit everywhere. I could sperg out about finding the right army surplus place because that can be a whole ordeal based on where you live. One site that I have bought from before is here, the prices are HIGH though, at a real army surplus place you can find OG Jungles for around 50 bucks max.

http://www.omahas.com/vietnam-jungle-boots-panama-sole#.WZfjrN9lDqA

Once you have Jungle boots you CAN resole them, any cobbler worth his salt can and HAS worked with jungle boots before and should have no issue keeping your pair good to go for several years to come.

I also forgot to mention that Jungle boots evolved during the vietnam war, meaning there are several variations in the tread. I recommend the Panama sole but a Vibram tread means its from early in the conflict and that theres alot of history in that boot. Modern Desert boots are based on Jungle Boots, even having the Panama sole but removing the leather and drainage holes on the instep.

Wellco used to be good, no idea now. The boots are made in china but appear to have slightly better quality control than brands like Rothco, I cant justify the price they sell Wellco boots for however. You may as well go buy the real deal. Unfortunately the price of boots is going up because they are getting harder to find.
