Simple. There are two watch people really. You either get a 'fashion' quartz watch. Or you look to mechanical watches.

The reality is there are affordable mechanical watches, the same price (or less) than 'fashion' watches.

If all you want is a watch that looks 'modern' Then you could do a lot worse than Skagen.

But for the same money you could get a Seiko that is mechanical, has some 'soul' and enthusiasts would respect, (if you care).

Be careful though, nekt minute you're down the rabbit hole and going after pieces like this.

Look at Seiko, Citizen, Timex, Swatch for your budget.

I don't mind since they are neat. the fact that you have a little machine on your hand that responds to you is cool, especially from an engineering standpoint. It doesn't matter if you spend $100 on quartz, because it's basically like a $10 quartz on the inside/ takes almost no time to produce, which makes them boring.

I could never buy a shitter just because of the constant chore of fixing the time endlessly. But anything COSC certified is acceptable and it only really needs to be adjusted once every month, which is when you would change the date wheel anyway. If you get a really accurate, high quality movement you might never need to adjust it because you can self-regulate it by leaving it in different positions when you sleep. For example my old, beater Rolex has been regulated purely by me leaving the crown up when I sleep and it's only drifted off by a grand total of 3 seconds.

But yeah I would definitely say you need to be a "watch guy" to buy anything mechanical because quartz is, generally, superior from a raw accuracy standpoint.

It's a nice watch but it's kind of oversized compared to my Seiko diver and I sort of regret having such a blatant sub ripoff. Very high quality overall though, it looks and feels great and it has a decent movement and sapphire crystal and all solid links and stuff.

Unless you know someone who can do it as a favour, it's propably not feasible to take it a professional watchmaker for crystal replacement, as they charge way more than your watch is worth, eventhough it's a really simple job.

You could try and source replacement crystal from eBay etc and change it yourself with help of Google. There's bound to be modding guides etc for Vostoks as they are quite popular.

Absolutely love this watch. Think it looks great, is only 38mm so won't be stupidly oversized as well as having a great mechanical movement to satisfy the watch nerd side of me.

Only thing I'm worried about is the fact that with what it costs I'd want to wear it every day, it will be fine for work but I just don't know how well a white watch will dress down. What do you guys think, is it able to be pulled off with casual wear or is it too much for a jeans and sweatshirt or t-shirt/jacket look?

It's a chronograph so by default it's already a very casual watch. White dial doesn't change that, desu I don't know where you got the idea that it has "that effect".

Imho it will look just right with jeans and sweat, but also good with jacket etc. I'd wear it with anything that isn't a suit/tux.

Sure, though keep in mind that the lug to lug of the strela is quoted at 47 (I don't have one to measure), which isn't far off the 48.5 of the L&H - it'll be a fatter tower, but the lug position will be about the same.

It's missing the chronograph, but do you really need one? If so, consider a quartz Casio Edifice. It won't wow any watch enthusiasts, but it looks nice, and is way cheaper. I didn't see the one I bought as my first on their site anymore, but I've taken that thing through hell, and it still works great.

The brand is amazing value for the movements and unknown enough that you aren't just following the crowd. So far as the online store goes it's a generic chinese based export store so take the risk if you want. Doesn't have many reviews on trustpilot.

It won't have the same Citizen-Miyota movement a say $400 Citizen watch would have, but propably very inexpensive entry level movement they supply as generic component to variety of makers. It will still be reliable and accurate though.

150$ feels steep though, the watches look kind of cheap and I get really Daniel Wellington-esque vibes from the brand/website.

Yes, it's solid. It was my daily beater for about 5 years, and it still works great. The top chronograph button still works, but it doesn't click anymore. That's my only complaint.

I get your drift, but it's hard enough to find a G-shock that isn't completely repulsive. Besides, hands are more my thing.
The strap looks good enough and certainly does the part. You're right about the crystal though, that's fucked up. Not too worried about the waterproofing, as I have a 10 atm watch for when I go sailing. I'll probably just wear it daily around the shop and at the range.
All and all, I would probably be pissed if I didn't pay half price for it, I,ll admit it.

The oil dries no matter what, that was my point. You might get a marginally longer life out of it if you keep it running but the service costs are going to make you want to buy a new one anyway. The costs of a watchwinder would outweigh that marginal increase in lifespan as well.

I'm just saying don't worry about it either way. And no the movement won't seize up it will just start keeping shitty time and slowly grind itself to dust.
