not all pedigrees are unreasonably expensive, you're also posting that on a board where people are willing to fork over stupid amounts of money for clothes. any reputable breeder or kennel club is going to take special measures to make sure both dogs are a good match for one another. you're only going to find inbred dogs in puppy farms and with backyard breeders. any purebreed with a decent pedigree should be well and truly healthy. there's nothing necessarily wrong with wanting a strong, healthy dog that has adapted to specific conditions through its genetic lineage and thus displays particular traits. sounds like your entire perception of purebreeds is based on sickly inbred pugs born in some dude's basement. shelter dogs are still great though.

Purebreed by its very definition is inbred. The current breeding pool for purebreeds is so small that there are no 'healthy' dogs coming out of them. If you want a strong, healthy dog then you get a mongrel, there's no way around it. It's simple genetics.

They don't have to be pulled from the same familial gene pool. The gene pool merely needs to lack the diversity to stop the recessive genes from being such a big problem, which it doesn't. There's a reason why most modern purebreeds essentially start falling apart after about 6-7 years of 'healthy' life whereas most mongrels/mutts tend to be fine for considerably longer.
