I started on a diet a few months ago, and my gym membership starts this week.
I need to buy shoes (probably copping pic related). Question is, how do I look effay in workout gear?
I see a lot of people with compression tights/base layer pants being worn with black gym shorts over + a tee, thoughts?

dont buy running shoes for weightlifting.
you want something less squishy for squats etc
adidas tiro
also if you're lifting don't buy shitty nikes like that just get a pair of chucks

I'm mainly gonna be doing cardio at first to get rid of my excess bodyfat, lifting will be included but not my main focus.

yes, if you're lifting heavy you want a flat hard sole like chucks or specialist weightlifting shoes.

If you're gonna be seriously lifting, you're gonna want the hard sole of chucks as already mentioned. High tops would offer more ankle support for squatting as well.
Either way, I think black joggers pulled up just below the knee is a nice modern look. Plays a bit with techwear and ninja core.
You're at the gym hopefully focussed on getting sweaty and swole, why the fuck do you care what you are wearing

Nike frees aren't bad for lifting at all. I wear them at the gym and they haven't been a problem for my intermediate lifts (170kg squat, 210kg deadlift)
Chad Wesley Smith has also done powerlifting meets in them
