What's the best way to fill my robotics parts bin with things that I don't know that I need yet?
I'm not looking for a build-a-long kit, just an assortment of sensors and other components.
Just buy broken robotic toys and dismantle.

This is good advice. Its a good way to learn about mechanisms and assembly. Parting out stuff and organizing parts gets the juices flowing. Looking at parts is a good source of inspiration.

old document scanners and printers have lots of useful components that can be re-purposed for your purposes anon, look in e-waste skips at yourlocal refuse site, computer shops will part with this junk for next to nothing. Good luck in your exploits.
