I've thought about those questions. Developing male tendencies turns the focus on him and away from her, which is the main part for me, and I don't find it as believable as her developing female tendencies, with the assistance of a man.

Him already being boyish and strong-willed is better but still less believable for me. I guess my conception of a boyish/strong-willed girl is further away from my conception of a full-blooded man than my conceptions of a girl and a feminine man, so the transformation to female is still more believable.
