Males have been losing genes on the Y chromosome for millions of years, and it only accelerated with technology like agriculture. A few million years ago, our ancestors similar to the Austrolopithecus had males which were twice the size of females. But now that gender roles carry less and less weight, especially in first-world society, the y chromosome is needed less and less. This means that the end game could be a society of females and traps in the first world, males who have y-chromosome genes you could count on one hand and are basically only different wherein they make sperm. This is very exciting to me because it means over thousands of years that men are forced to become more feminine against their will. Too bad that most likely they will replace their shrinking y with an artificial chromosome. It will be funny how it will creep up on men, though. There will probably be a handful of lineages that will not get artificial genes and let evolution take its course, and that makes me excited.

So basically what they're saying is that transsexuals are in significant ways more similar to the sex they're transitioning towards/"want to be" than their physical sex. This would help explain why they might feel dysphoria over their sex, and why they might feel better if they transitioned; to oversimplify: if you have a "female brain" you would feel that you should also have a female body.

But just in general, transition is proven to work for many people even if it doesn't make you a "real" man/woman or whatever (which is entirely subjective, by the way). It's not even supposed to; it's supposed to be a medical treatment to reduce the crippling depression and such that being trans creates. Since no other treatment works, transition is what is used.

By the nature of the condition gender is an important aspect of a transsexual's life. The dysphoria is both serious and persistent, in a comparable fashion to being hideously deformed in a way that ruins interactions with other people, or having chronic depression (actually, being trans causes chronic depression most of the time). You can't just make that go away. Obviously it would be the right decision if possible, but it's not.

Just because it is important does not mean it is defining you life. You need to spend a lot of investment dealing with it, but you still have identity outside of it, and you certainly shouldn't leave related issues unresolved because of how much you need to do to deal with them; the opposite, in fact.

What do you say to all the people who have transitioned for long periods of time and are better off for it? Are they lying?

What always seems weird to me about that kind of explanation is the part of how that brain then recognizes the "error". Suppose you have a male body but a female brain structure. Your brain has never known anything other than having a male body, and has never been able to compare it to how a female body feels like, so how does it make the connection? How can it map its internal model of its identity onto the socially constructed label of "girl", and then make the connection that people are using the wrong arbitrary name for your brain?

I just can't imagine that the biology decides to HARDCODE aspects such as "I'm supposed to have boobs" into your brain, especially considering the wide range of possible body types and sizes the brain could end up in, even if it is in the correct gender.

If this were about sexual orientation, that would make a lot more sense, since that happens on an instinctual level independent of your own body's identity, your brain is female so it might try to seek a male partner, even if you're male.

Also, if it's just about brain architecture, how does that explain changing ídentities like genderfluids? I won't deny that having the wrong brain structure might play a part in some cases, but surely it is a lot more complicated than just that.

Well people who have lost a limb suffer phantom limb syndrome because the brain has a mental map of the body. When the map doesn't match reality the brain sends signals to try and re-establish contact which results in pain. Student Transfer is always recruiting new writers, however we are fast approaching the next release, but we are concerned about these cycles. We don't like the idea of releasing once per year any more than you do, but we're having intense discussions frequently about how to better fix them.

Honestly, all one needs is passion, you can probably learn the subtleties later, and we've got editors to boot. I joined this project a year and a half ago on a whim, and even I'm entirely shocked I'm still around. If you like Student Transfer, and you can exercise sufficient grammar as to not give our editors a headache, and have some imagination, you really should apply. I mean, what's the worse that can happen? Not write anything and leave? We've had people like that and we don't judge them. Write a few lines and realize you're not up for it? That's too bad, but you gave it a try and we're even happy you gave even that. Only wrote one day of content and then burned out? That's fine mate, you gave it your all.

Anyway, I encourage people to sign up. There's no harm in it, and there's no reason to be anxious. You're not harming us, and you're not harming yourself, and you're not harming the project by just giving it a try.
