But they're charging for it now so I might be wrong.

Nigga that shit is in most of the recommendation lists of animation I've seen.
It's pretty good but too niche to talk about it with anyone.
>>95334269
>I am the only one who's seen this movie
I know /co/ is full of plebs but come on
>>95334269
Yes, you are the only one who has seen it. Congrats in being special just for having seen one of the most famous works of animation of all time.fag
>>95334269
Savage Planet is entry level "le obscure artsy animation" amd while I enjoyed it its nowhere near my favorite due to it just boils down to boring ol' sex garbage and just seems like some frenchies sexed up acid trip. I watched it years ago on laserdisc so my appreciation of it at this time is biased of course but /co/ seems to be more enamored with it than i ever could. It just seemed to lack sbstance to me.

Why not talk about it?
Even if they use the "Aliens are just blue humans" cliche, they were more fleshed out as their own society with their own traditions instead of just space[human holiday]
I appreciate that the world it takes place on feels like an alien world and not an apple store in space.
>>95334269
No you aren't - this movie isn't obscure
>>95336300
Because is old and gay.
The meditation sequence is really good.
>>95334269
No you're not, I've seen it too! You little liar.

Sorry, this is the bit that confused me.
>>95339875
I cant find it for free and unedited on youtube or dailymotion anymore.
>>95334269
I've seen it. Pretty fucking stellar film.
>>95334269
I've got the criterion bluray I honestly love le the movie more than I thought I would

Essential Cartoon Network-raised /co/ babbies' first niche animation:
>Fantastic Planet
>Wizards
>Song of the Sea
>Akira
>>95336300
I really liked the alien world aspects and how the humans were hus just pests that stuck there for who knows how long, the extermination scenes were fucked up
>>95335993
The 70s were a mystical place huh
>>95341852
I've seen Akira and Wizards.
>>95341852
Song of the Sea is niche?
I went to see it in the cinema in Tokyo a couple of months ago, it's not that niche.
They were also showing the Secret of Kells.

>>95341852
this board's gone downhill if people are calling fantastic planet "baby's first" anything. I wonder what will happen when we run out of things to call "baby first" and everything just becomes entry-level to you contrarians
>>95340103
Ah.
>>95342221
It's a really good movie and although it's too obscure for normies and most of /co/ it still isn't "obscure" as far as niche animation itself goes, which is to say it isn't exactly on the level of Jankovics or Svankmajer in terms of inaccessibility.

Yes, yes they were. We gobbled magic mushrooms like popcorn, tore off our clothes, and went on shamanic dream-quests. We climbed the neon mountains, we were alone in the teeming crowds of Humanity, and we screamed into the void hoping it would scream back, hooking its talons into our brains, dragging us down into the abyss. The 70s were wild wild times, aglow with heliotrope flames and fluorescent cotton-candy stuffed into our skulls. Our bones shone through our flesh with an unwholesome luminosity.
O my son, the 70s *glittered*.
>I'm the only one
I own both the Criterion collection release and Anchor Bay release from 2000, Of course I've seen them
>>95334269
no you're not the only one. i saw this a few years ago on amazon and bought it used. then showed some of my friends. can't remember who i gave it away to
Well despite OP's horrible post, I'm glad he posted this as I had never heard of it. One of the most bizarre things I've ever seen, so thanks.
>>95334269
It got a Criterion release you dullard
>>95334269
saw that shit 20 years ago nigga
Honestly fantastic planet is something I wouldn't mind having a remake with a higher budget as long as it still has that 70's psychedelic weirdness
>>95345151
They made a new graphic novel. The Traags actually emote in this one.
It's not as good, but the Traag that adopts the guy is ten times cuter.
>>95345196
Just look at this little cinnamon bun.
>>95345196
Oh fuck the hell yes can you storytime it?
>>95345248
Does anyone have links for this doesn't seem like a translated version exists

Their lack of emotion contributed to the creepy vibe, too bad.
Don't forget to watch Time Masters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKBdeb6dmXI) and Gandahar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVxX1KMd2Qo) by the same director.
