No, just get the OHC or trade. 100 MSRP for a 600 page book is ridiculous

wanted to start building a collection for the first time (at 27 years old, fuck me) and thinking that New Frontier is a must. How do you guys handle TPBs with more than 400 or 500 pages? do they get creases on the outside easily? or do you just pass on TPBs altogether for thicker books and get HCs?

So far, I thought about getting
>Watchmen TPB
>All Star Superman TPB
>New Frontier TPB (can't find HC on booksetc)
>The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition HC
>The Long Halloween TPB

Also, why is booksetc.COM posted in every single thread when the site is dead? only booksetc.co.uk works, does it not?

no, all in perfect condition
really enjoying the book too
interesting concept, likable characters and great art

i was gonna pass it up and grab them at a comic con soon, but then i saw the retail price on the trades and i figured getting them all for $80 less plus free single issues pretty much was a good deal

>So far, I thought about getting
>>Watchmen TPB
>>All Star Superman TPB
>>New Frontier TPB (can't find HC on booksetc)
>>The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition HC
>>The Long Halloween TPB

Those are basically top 5 most popular DC books on ppls shelf, the only one I'd recommend you getting is New Frontier... the rest is more interesting once you've read a decent amount of stuff.

Start somewhere a little more interesting, I'm sure if you have questions ppl would be more than happy to help (in the shelf thread at least)
>>
>>95226305

Perfect condition trades for 2$ a piece and the extra floppies including the first one? thats a fucking steal.
>>

>Start somewhere a little more interesting

any examples? it's not like these are my first comicbooks. It's just that I never bothered reading beyond the stuff I got as a kid/teen and the stuff I read in ebook form. Just wanted to have a small collection in my shelf which I can read from time to time. Basically mainstream stuff I always liked

Is Master of Kung Fu any good? I just bought Infinite Kung Fu andI love it. Trying to find more like it.
>>
>>95227069
Yes it is, especially after Doug Moench takes over. It's got some awesome art and fantastic stories. It takes over the numbering of Marvel Special Edition at issue 15, and really hits its stride at issue 29 "The Crystal Connection"
Shang Chi is a fantastic character with a surprising amount of depth. The supporting cast is fucking great. It's an awesome comic. I give it my highest reccomendation.

a quick tip for buying/reading/collecting. popular books may not always grab you and don't buy something cause it's popular (not saying you are, I don't know your taste). A good resource you should use to test out things is your local library. I have found plenty of new things from my library that I wouldn't have found at my LCS. I have also picked up a lot of books that I found I hated there and realized I should never waste my money on these.

as a side note, next time I'm at my local library I'm going to take a picture of the Conan and Red Sonja section (which is pretty massive) cause I need to ask where to start and I see a lot of Conan fans here. The graphic novel librarian is a long haired biker guy and seems to really love his sword and sorcery books. He seems like a really cool guy

I'm working on getting a full run on New Teen Titans (I have up to the just-released Vol. 7), the post-Messner-Loebs Vol. 2 Flash (I have all of the trades out right now), and I have the Perez Wonder Woman omnis coming in the mail soon.
As far as single issues go, I'm working on getting the issues that make up Starman omnibus 3, all of Walt Simonson's Fantastic Four run, and Steve Englehart's story arc that goes from FF #313-319, mostly. Simonson's FF is surprisingly easy to get at a low price. I got about a decent chunk of the run for $5-6 total a few weeks back.

I know what you mean, but they're pretty nice books. Not too big as to be unwieldy, not too expensive, solid binding.

I'm trying to get most of the things I like in HC when possible, so sometimes it's a bit of a toss-up between springing for an Absolute, or sticking with trades. Some classics and things I really like I'll go for the Abs whatever, but with some books it's nice to have a 'deluxe' option, like Y - The Last Man.
>>
>>95243388
I only really like big beefy HC's with maxi series, but with ongoing and regular minis, a normally thick trade is fine by me more often than not.

Picked the re-released Ennis Punisher omni for $54 shipped. Really tempted to get a few more they have for half off....
>>
>>95244282
Their shipping usually takes forever, but it's highly worth it. They pack the boxes so the books don't move a hair. They have that expanding foam that keeps everything in place in the middle of the box.
>>
>>95244282

>>
>>95244581
Yeah, you get 2% discount if you place a second order within a week. I have lost quite a bit of money to them myself.
>>
>>95244565
The shitty thing is that after setting up any kind of workaround, you'll probably end up spending enough so that you don't end up saving much :/

Unless you live close to the boarder, arrange somewhere to ship and take a trip down once a month
>>
>>95244282
They're fantastic. I order most everything from them.
>>
>>95244717
Goddammit I'm noticing that now. Everything I'm looking up is so cheap it almost doesn't make sense NOT to buy it. If I pass on it I'm just going to spend more on all of it later on. I hate how fiscally irresponsible I am
>>
>>95244860
The downside is that people assume that trades will be automatically down 42% on IST right after release, so there is no need to pre-order. Preordering is what tells the publishing company's what people are interested in though.
RIP Sandman Mystery Theatre
>>
>>95244860

Also got some Shadow for my collection.

worth it even just for the covers

I've never preordered anything.
Somtimes, though, Amazon seems to leave things at the preorder price for a bit after release.
I got my Bronze Age Brave and the Bold omni that way, which is the only thing I've bought from Amazon in ages.

I'm moving and figuring out the best way to pack hardcovers and fancy collections is driving me nuts. Trades have gone into long boxes. Easy enough. Some smaller hardcovers too.

But the fancy shit I'm left wrapping in bubblewrap and putting in big heavy boxes. Shit is not ideal. I don't know what is ideal.

Preorder on Amazon as soon as you can. You get the lowest price from when you order to when it ships. There's usually some weird stupid dip for half an hour midnight on Tuesday some night so you can save good money.

Adam Strange omni MSRPed for 100. Amazon had it up for about 42. I got it for 33 by the time it shipped.

It's 2% of retail, not their already cheap-ass prices.

Basically no info at all as far as ive seen, just cover shots and omni titles... and apparently its in chronological order?
not sure if that means if its just in the order the issues came out or if they're gonna move things around a bit like with the plague of frogs omnis

>Some of the books I wanted to buy are sold out on Amazon and am hesitant about getting books from sellers I never see pictures from

>Tfw there are sellers of a 100% rating on ebay that have some of the books i want to buy but am pretty hesitant about getting a paypal since everyone on their wants you to buy things via PayPal

It worth trying Ebay? Plus i dont know how paypal works one bit. It safe to sync your credit card with it and whatnot?

>bubble wrap
how far are you moving? cause unless you are going through some shit just pack the boxes tight and you won't have an issue. Just use a box about 2x4x2 and fill up the empty space with something like softcover novels or whatever.

is that Eisner book worth reading if you already read Understanding Comics?
>>
>>95245546

Not too far. I'm only doing that wrap for omnis and Absolutes. Books over 50 bucks really.

The stuff like Runaways volume 2 hardcover or what have you? That I'm just packing. The Incal and Hellboy Library Editions and that Absolute styled Rocketeer gets the wrap.

The best thing is to bubble wrap, find a box just a bit bigger than the books then cram balls of newspaper into the corners to wedge it in, and protect. if you're hiring movers instead of hoofing it all yourself, just take the books with you in your car unless you've got a metric fuckton of them.
>>
>>95245649

Metric fuckton. Sadly I have to get a storage unit, so the amount I can have on shelves isn't going to be great.
>>
>>95245564
I don't know, haven't read it yet
I'm just interested in Eisner take on it
>>
>>95245542
Ebay is worth it if you don't really care about the condition of the book. Paypal is just a paying service. I've never had any problems with them.

Not to sound like a twitter fuck, but it's 2017 my man. Who doesn't know Ebay and Paypal are as safe to use as plausible for digitally relayed financial information?
