I'm not sure if it's an asspull, it's probably something that's wired into that character since his conception even if not deliberately. But how they exposed it so that there was some depth to that character (at the end of the third season, nonetheless!) rubbed me the wrong way.

I don't wanna sound like a cunt, but making Bojack's design more "Attractive" completely kills the character. It's like if you made Frankenstein's monster attractive: What's the fucking point? These characters are reflection of the ugliness inside of us, and how despicable we can become given due time. This design, essentially, castrates Bojack's character. He's old, gone and forgotten about, and the only thing keeping him alive is the fact that he'a too much of a coward to kill himself, and that lung and liver cancer are not fast enough. If we go by the Secretariat Metaphor: Bojack is an old horse unable to run away from his problems anymore, and he's forced to face them.

Still, nice picture, though. I just feel sometimes that, through artistic liberties, character's are neutered when their design is changed. Essentially, a cartoon character is it's design and voice. Change any of those things, they become an alien entity.


Mr.Peanutbutter, on the other hand, is quite well drawn. Kudos to the artist's talent.

So, with the new season of BoJack Horseman starting tomorrow, I thought it would be interesting to share a possibility for who may be the mother of BoJack's daughter that I haven't seen come up yet.

Bradley Hitler-Smith's mother.

In the episode Still Broken, about Herb Kezzaz's funeral, there's a running bit where Bradley is pissed because BoJack screwed around with his mother and now doesn't even remember her (or at least pretends he doesn't).

Now, there's a flashback where Bradley comes to Herb because he's uncomfortable with BoJack and his mother becoming so close, which suggests something that lasted quite a while, and also that it occurred at least partly before Herb left, which the BH wiki says was during season 2 or 3. If BoJack is telling the truth about not remembering her, it's unlikely to have been during season 3, because BoJack mentions to Kelsey that he remembers a lot about that year because "it was a big cocaine year for me."

It's also possible that their affair continued for quite a while after Herb left and she became pregnant later in their relationship.

Assuming that the affair occurred entirely before season 3, BoJack's daughter would have been born in ~1990 at the latest, making her 27. This would make it pretty weird that she has "Filly Vogue" on her wall, sleeps in a twin bed, and generally has a room that looks like it almost certainly belongs to a teenager.

Another possibility is that the relationship lasted quite a bit longer, into the later part of the show. If BoJack got Bradley Hitler-Smith's mother pregnant with a younger sister near the end of the show, she would be 21 right now, fresh out of college. Maybe that's when she decides it's finally time to look for BoJack.

It's different but it's not at all awful, the weirdest thing about this season is just the fact that it doesn't have a driving center to the plot like the last seasons (the family messages notwithstanding) and is just kind of about the cast and where they stand.

I feel it's almost like a middle ground, like its a set up season for the characters so that something bigger can happen next season.

I actually thought building the episodes around theme rather than an actual event or object worked in favor of the show. It gave them more freedom with the characters without having to tie them in stupidly. Each character had their own tangible through-line, and it ultimately felt rewarding at the end.

I am absolutely pissed that they split up PC and Ralph, since they were so good for each other, but it didn't ruin it for me.
