I saw it opening-ish day in high school with no expectations and hated it, as did my friends. Obviously that's just one man's opinion, but I really just didn't like it one bit.

Haven't seen it since though, so maybe I'd be warmer to it now that I know the ending.

The novel really just sets up her being like that (and showing her do it to two other FO people, one who is quite important).
It also shows her getting her chrome armor, a much-needed look into how the FO operates in the latter half of the 30 year time skip, and potentially a new character we may see in TLJ.

I'm going to continue my cataloguing of all notable vehicles that appear in Star Wars canon, in chronological order (as best as I can), for the purpose of fostering quality on-topic discussion.

The Providence class Star Destroyer is a thing of beauty, the iconic Separatist capital ship. This thing for some reason does not have an entry in the TCW Incredible Vehicles book, even though it appears in what is chronologically the very first episode of TCW.

I respect or resident anon who shills for the Providence, it's a good shipfu to have, even though I prefer the Nebulon :^)

I must say I am very intrigued by the direction they took Mandalorian design in for canon, I don't find them particularly attractive but you can't deny their originality. This Aka'jor shuttle for example exhibits their widespread affinity for variable-geometry wings, not even Rebel fighter or Imperial shuttles have quite so many moving parts as the variety of Mando ships. They also have a much more consistent and cohesive design aesthetic from the EU, which had MandalMotors designs all over the place.

Poe should've had a much bigger role in TFA. He should've had Finn's role, or at least been with Rey and Finn for the entire duration of the film. I'm pretty sure him and Rey only have 1 scene together and I don't even think they're introduced to each other, either. It sucks because the first 40 minutes of the movie (right up to when they leave Jakku) is honestly near-perfect and entertaining as fuck. Once Han & Chewie step onboard the Falcon the movie starts going downhill. Sure, it's not a masterpiece before that, but you can't deny that TFA starts really strong and goes downhill at that exact scene, whether you hate the film or love it. Anyway, Rey/Poe/Finn should've been the main trio of the film. Poe and Finn had such good chemistry together that people genuinely began expecting them to be gay for each other in later films, and not just weird tumblr shippers, but casual viewers. Rey and Finn had good chemistry too. Not in a romantic way, but it was believable that they're friends and care about each other. The dynamic of that trio would be great too. The young scavenger, a former Stormtrooper on the run, and the experienced Resistance pilot with his cute droid. The movie wouldn't even really have to change much of the story, either. Poe co-piloting the Falcon with Rey would build a bond between them and make that scene a lot more believable. Poe and Han having scenes together would be great. Plus Poe could just be like "guys I'm gonna get BB-8 to the Resistance I'll see you guys later though" once they get to Maz's place, and that way it would make sense why the Resistance shows up out of nowhere there to save the day. And the rest of the movie could play out almost exactly the same.

Am I crazy or are these not massive improvements that would've been easy to write into the script? Sure, there's still the whole ending and Starkiller in general, but I already have a few better ideas on how to write a better third act that doesn't include a Death Star.

TFA's critical reception made me lose faith in critics

seriously? 92% of critics like this thing? I thought critics were supposed to see past the goggles of nostalgia they talk about when they review every other franchise, I guess Star Wars is an exemption to that

fuck that CGI is so much of an improvement over TFA's Snoke, but I guess it makes sense since that design wasn't finalized until super late and so it had to be rushed, whereas this time they've had the design for 3 years plus a director like Rian who was so ahead of schedule that editing began in August of last fucking year. Compare that to Justice League which is going through at least $20 million in reshoots right now and is supposed to come out in 2 months. Or even the Han Solo movie which is such a clusterfuck and still has a release date in May.

I'm positive Rian is Kathy's first choice for IX. He's the only director that they've had no problems with and he's said he'd do another Star Wars movie in a heartbeat. The only reason why I could see him not directing it is because he doesn't want to for whatever reason, but part of me thinks Rian cares enough about the series to make the commitment despite it being so last minute as long as they delay it by at least 6 months, which they did for TLJ when he asked for more time.

A lot of people have said that it's stupid for people to want Rian to direct IX so badly when we haven't even seen TLJ yet, but I just like Rian so much as a person based off his twitter and fan interactions he's had as well as trusting him as a filmmaker that I think almost anyone else taking the job would disappoint me.

The Coronet is a vertically oriented luxury cruise ship. As it appears in an early season episode of TCW, its interiors are not as visibly luxurious as they are implied to be. I do like the affinity of Lucasfilm/ILM for vertically oriented or partially vertically oriented ships.

with Han Solo Ron Howard's name was brought up the next day, if not earlier. Rian was said to be the top contender by Deadline like an hour after it was announced Trevorrow got the boot, and Deadline were the ones who first published the rumor about Rian directing Episode VIII and writing a treatment for IX before it was announced, so they definitely have a decent source. I'm not sure if they were the ones who named Howard for the Han Solo movie first, but I'm pretty sure that might have been The Hollywood Reporter or Variety.

I would expect an announcement this week if it's going to be Rian, since that would show how confident they are in The Last Jedi and also create a shit ton of buzz for both films. I don't get why everyone else is saying they won't announce it till after TLJ.

The Nubian Star Skiff is nice, I like it better than the Royal starship from Episode 1, but it's not as good as the cruiser from episode 2. I'm not quite sure how one actually gets to the cockpit from inside though, the internal scaling doesn't work quite right, at least to my eyes.

I honestly think it is notably better then all the prequels.
Only flaws with it are Mud swinging on vines & the fridge survival.

Shia is actually decent in it. The scene with him getting emotional after seeing loxley's asylum room was effective.
(Even then Shia was a MUCH better actor then fucking Hayden Christensen)

Blanchett is the best villain of the series.
The alien mystery is something different & unique for the series but still fit the pulp adventure.
That moment when Indy turns to Mud while holding the skull & out of chilling bafflement says "what is this thing?" Is great.
Except for the oversized jungle clearing machines, the cgi was fine.

It's 100% possible if you're sufficiently out of range of the shock wave that would pulp your insides. It's 99% impossible to survive it flying hundreds of miles per hour through the air on a ballistic trajectory to land miles away, which would pulp whoever's inside it. That's the part that's questionable. Still, it's a movie, and Indy's already survived a lot worse.

I'm not who you're arguing with in other posts.
A fridge could be launched by a nuclear blast if it were far enough away from the centre.
I can buy that.
If the fridge was launched into the air and then landed in some trees without tumbling, I could even buy Indie surviving that.
It's a little wacky, but the series has had some crazy shit in before (like the aforementioned raft parachute. It would be the most ridiculous thing Indie survived, but I could buy it.

For me, it's the ridiculous tumbling that pushes it from "Ooook, that's a little crazy, but I can buy it" to "How the fuck is Indiana not fucking dead."
The movie doesn't even treat it like something crazy happened. He just gets out and looks annoyed at surviving a fucking NUKE.

Interesting fact, almost every single "new" shuttle design in the Prequel movies, TCW, Rebels, and Rogue One is actually reused, recycled, and refurbished concept art by Joe Johnston and Nilo Rodis-Jamero who made dozens and dozens of sketches and concepts for the Emperor's shuttle in Return of the Jedi, which we see finalized famously as the Lambda.

The Nu-class shuttle is a beast, love that girl even if she doesn't have a dorsal fin.

This is the last ship of the woefully incomplete TCW Incredible Vehicles book, which only goes up to about halfway through season 3. I'll finish posting the complete roster of TCW vehicles later, after I take a break, though I'll have to check Wookieepedia and the StarWars.com databank to make sure I'm thorough.

Don't let that stop you from discussing ships though!

This is what happens when you use Twitter to hold conversations.

Basically, there isn't really anything in the movie that shows that the Resistance is getting ANY support from the Republic, aside from the opening crawl, and Hux's speech.

You get multiple stories an issue, and they already seem to be spanning out of the most surprising corners of canon.

I'm gonna try to finish up all the ships first seen (chronologically at least) in TCW by tonight.

The classic hammerheaded CR90 Corellian Corvette aka Blockade Runner. The Tantive IV appears as Bail Organa's personal ship as he ferries relief supplies to Ryloth, not to be confused with the CR70 Tantive III from ROTS.

This design was originally intended for the Millenium Falcon until Lucas decided against having the main hero ship looking too derived from the Space 1999 lunar landers.

The Z-95 Headhunter was recanonized as a Republic fighter craft for clones. I like this version better than the stock commonly known EU Z-95 which is just barely different from and X-wing, but there's actually a much earlier iteration. In the Han Solo Adventures trilogy of novels from 1978, the first novel introduces and invents the Z-95, and it is actually a swing-wing fighter like an F-14 Tomcat! Modeler's reproductions are very attractive, far moreso than the canon variant seen here.

The Crucible is a truly ancient ship, with design echoes of Corellian designs, but which gives a hint to the design aesthetic of the truly Old Republic - a thousand years before or more. This alone was far less derivative than many of the vessels seen in the KOTOR games. And it's piloted by a far superior waifu ;^)

The Eta-2 Actis Jedi Interceptor is a fantastic design, the superior of jedi Starfighters, and an obvious interation in the development of TIE fighters. Personally, as far as livery goes, I like Obi-wan's red interceptor the best.

I'm glad to see them show up in Star Wars Battlefront 2, but I have a sinking feeling they'll be hero ships only. At least the new battle points system should decrease the amount of times a player gets screwed out of having the special stuff, but I'm not totally convinced.

The GX-1 Short Hauler is a nice little personal cruiser, and shows up quite often in extraneous media after its appearance in TCW. Like many of the shuttles in Star Wars, this one was derived directly from one of the designs for the Emperor's shuttle in ROTJ.

The Arquitens class light cruiser is a roughly 250 meter long miniature Star Destroyer. I love seeing that daggerform appearance show up in smaller capital ship designs than the big 'uns. Pleasingly, the developers of BF2 actually went to the effort to create separate models of the Republic Arquitens and the Imperial retrofit. They better not skimp out with Mon Cal cruiser variants.

I'm fairly certain they appear in the background of Tatooine and the Yavin throne room. Additionally, about 20% of the people in the Stormtrooper costumes are black.
>>
>>95156434
Very likely actually.

Bossk is in the leaks as one of the returning villains. They also have WAY less confirmed Hero Vehichles than regular ones. Some of which are literally just X-Wing reskins, like Poe and Luke.

So I am fully expecting the Hounds Tooth and The Ghost to be in the game.

The Sorosuub 3000 is the canonization of Lando's old Lady Luck from the Thrawn Trilogy and beyond. Sadly, he doesn't seem to use one anymore, he just flies along with Nien Nunb in the Mellcrawler II. I always pronounced Sorosuub as "Sorrow-sub" but I'm almost certainly wrong.

Thanks for the info. Please do not take my constant discussion about Battlefront 2 as shilling, I'm cautiously optimistic, but still hyped enough to have preordered so I could get into the October beta. The campaign alone will probably make it worth it for me, and it seems there's offline with bots which is a significant improvement to the last one, but I definitely would not advise anyone to buy it if they aren't sold with what they've seen so far or if they were burned from the last one. Certainly don't waste 20 extra dollars on the deluxe edition, that thing doesn't offer anything of value except access to the full release game 3 days early. I don't see how that could possibly be worth it.

I was one of the most vocal people shitting on the 2015 game, because frankly it was an embarrassment and one of the worst Star Wars products I ever bought.

But this upcoming game looks like the dead opposite, its everything that the last game should have been, and more. I max ranked because like you, I just wanted Star Wars vidya, and I was willing to push through Dice's shit to get that.

Seems like the pain was worth it though, because BF2 feels like it is making up for all of the past games mistakes. No filler heroes, 3x the content, actual single player, content from all over the canon. Literally my dream game, theres no way they can fuck it up now.

All I want from BF2 is for appearance not to be tied to class. Classes should delineate what equipment you are permitted to use at a time, they should not lock equipment to the class. For example in the alpha, the standard DC-15 long rifle is some heavy MG type weapon only useable by the heavy class. That's ridiculous, any clone should get access to the iconic clone rifle.

>1) Kanan & other Jedi younglings knew of Ahsoka because she was famous for being Anakin Skywalker's Padawan.

>2) We will learn of what Bo-Katan thought about Maul's rule of Mandalore & of her Sister, Satine Kryze in Season 4.

>3) Sabine & Ezra will be learning to do more on their own this season without the help of Kanan & Hera.

>4) Ezra will grow a lot during Season 4.

>5) A clip was shown of Hera putting Captain Rex & Kallus in control of the Ghost.

>6) Grand Admiral Thrawn is fighting with the Empire about how to fight the Rebels.

>7) We will see the machinations between Thrawn & Pryce. Both trying to manipulate the other to achieve their goals.

>8) The Loth-Wolves are similar to the Bendu in that they are part of the natural force of Lothal. Neither light nor dark.

>9) The ending for Star Wars Rebels has been shot & the season is more connected to the films than ever before.

>10) The first few episodes of season 4 will wrap up left over storylines & then from Episode 5 it deals with completing Ezra's story.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't really think that's fair. A kid doesn't look at the dated technology and think "Well the movie is ruined because these fantastical worlds look too fantastical and not realistic enough." Likewise, when I look at the puppet Yoda from the OT as an adult I can easily tell that it's a puppet. He's rubbery, his mouth barely emotes, his mannerisms are awkward and jerky. But there's no way it ruins the movies for me because I know what it's supposed to be, what it represents, and that's good enough.

A fair amount of Tatooine, maybe a bit of Naboo and Geonosis but I can't remember. But you know the Prequels don't have the benefit of shooting the Ice Planet of Norway or the Forest Moon of California because they wanted to take you to places that don't exist in our world. You can't really shoot on location for worlds like Coruscant or Kamino, Utapau or Mustafar. But they still built sets for them.
>>
>>95159086

All of Tatooine was on location.

>>
>>95159119

That's just the aesthetics of the movies themselves. I know what people mean when they say it all looks like plastic, but I've always seen it as the "Prequel look". It has an ethereal feel to it, that is so consistent throughout the three movies that doesn't really detract from the experience to me.

Star Wars CGI is only jarring to me in the special edition scenes for the OT. Those really clash with the overall look of the films. The PT just looks like the PT to me.

It wouldn't look exactly like the CGI animated clones, and would stand out in a weird way. The prequels were really good at maintaining a consistent aesthetic. If you think it looks like "cheap plastic", that's your problem; it just looks different than other films to me, it has a unique look to it, it's neither good nor bad.

I think the melting door effects looked really really good. I can admit when things are well done.
TPM was the odd one out as far as the Prequels go.
Look at the Theed palace. Real place. Big set. Not a carpet in sight.
You can feel the difference. Far better than the later movie's Coruscant.

The over-reliance on CGI only happened after TPM. At least Jar Jar was a real person on set. If AotC George made TPM, there wouldn't have been

No, LOTR had to hide a lot of its CGI because it was noticeable. Gollum was cut out of the first because the CGI just was too bad. The Wargs and Eagles stand out too. Matter fact, the Cave Troll CG is so bad its taught in classes of what not to do with CGI

That's what I'm talking about. For the most part, they knew what worked and what didn't. They didn't force it by having actors work on entirely blue sets and talk to things that aren't there. Incidentally, the Hobbit series forgot this lesson and despite a decade of technological advancement it often looks worse than the LotR trilogy.

And I thought the Cave Troll itself was ok. The problem was when the other characters jumped on it and shit.

Why does The Phantom Menace look so different from the other two prequels? I don't know how to describe it but it has a very distinctive, subtle look to it that makes it instantly identifiable to me even in non-specific screenshots. The best I can explain it is that the color palette seems a little cooler and muted. Was that intentional?

People say this, but I have to disagree somewhat.
It has a lot of Anakin moping around and then suddenly going full "massacres children" with the littlest of prodding.
And there's the fact that Padme goes from announcing her pregnancy only a few days before giving birth. And also her death.

She announces it to Anakin and the audience. To give birth just a few days later, she had to have already been a little over 8 months in.

I'm not trying to rag on either. But TPM has this spirit of renewed freedom, like the doors have finally been flung wide open:
>Yeah it's the story of Darth Vader but with this first one I'm getting back to my roots and I have time to just have a really good time

AOTC, the reality sets in:
>Shit, I need to start moving things into place. Um, I guess this one is about the war starting, and Anakin falling in love?

ROTS, the daunting realization:
>Oh fuck, I'm out of time and I still have like 80% of the story to tell, and I have to make sure that everything fits together right and end the trilogy on a note that's both satisfying to watch in release or chronological order

For what it's worth I think they all turned out more or less as good as they could have considering the way he chose to go about it. But TPM is definitely my favorite because it's just George getting to be George, finally making the movie he envisioned back in the early 70s before reality set in.

>>95160495
Nice false-flag.
>>
>>95160518
It's just a little odd considering that travel time is never really long. Ships are fast and communication is pretty good too, most of the time.
Was Anakin really incommunicado for 9 months?

It's a little odd too considering how often he goes back home in TCW
>>
>>95160547
>talking to someone below for eye contact
Did they do that? I've never seen a BTS image of a CGI character stand-in.
>>
>>95160569
Anakin is said to be totally out of contact with Padme for at least 3, possibly 5 or even 6 months at the end of the Clone Wars. Padme is ever so slightly beginning to show in Season 6 of TCW, but he doesn't catch wind of it.
>>
>>95160552
She probably could've been less far along in her pregnancy. They mention they need to work fast to save the babies so it's possible they induced the birth.
>>
>>95160533
I'm not asking for hug box. We can even discuss the prequels. I'm just asking for 1 fucking thread where a /tv/ shitposter doesn't turn discussion of the prequels into a (you) contest within the first 10 posts of the thread.

When you fuck off, this place can actually discuss all of Star Wars civilly, and it's about the only place on the internet that you can. But then people like you come in and act like their shit don't stink. Why don't you actually have a proper discussion instead of flinging shit everywhere?

Reddit is actually very reasonable when it comes to the prequels. There are a few RLM fags here and there but you forget that they love Filoni too and he's done a great job convincing people to look at the prequels in a different light. If you honestly believe we're the only place that likes the prequels then how do you explain the media portion of Lucasfilm making positive prequels references constantly or even the Pablo post that said the prequels are fairly loved by most people?
