Ronnie and KC Green makes attempts at humor. In a lot of this type of thing, there's not even an attempt at a constructed joke or punchline. It's just "Oh haha isn't that awkward!" or "Ho boy I sure am wacky!". Ronnie in particular works because it's an actual character. You can set up actual jokes when you have an established character. He's the stereotype of the short, awkward, fat, anime obsessed weirdo taken to the extreme for comedic purposes. Sarah Anderson is just a generic stand in for the every-person, and while that's the best possible route to take when exploring a fantastical universe (Because they'd react like the audience would and set up exposition with pertinent questions that a real person might ask), when exploring the banalities of the real world such a character is just... banal.

It's a question of execution, ultimately. There are no bad ideas, just bad writers/artists.

I don't personally hate this trend, but in my opinion, being bland and uninteresting is quite possibly the worst thing anything can be. If something is good, then that's good because it's just enjoyable. Everyone partakes, has a good time, recommends it to friends, and we all go to bed happy. If something's bad, that can cause similar events to unfold because it's so bad it's funny ala Plan 9 from Outer Space or in the case of webcomics, Sonichu/CAD. Of course, there are things that are so bad that they're not even funny bad, in which case they instead gain usefulness as a "What not to do" guide. But something that's mechanically functional, written well enough to hit square in the middle of the road, and falls into neither appealingly good nor amusingly bad? The media equivalent of a bucket of wallpaper paste? That has nothing of value to it.

Even if I don't hate it personally I can see why other people would. It's disturbingly successful for how utterly pointless it is.

Frankly, this is going to sound sexist, but, he's a guy.

By which I mean, Sarah's entire shock value is that she is not actually as dainty, pretty, pure, etc. as society would expect she would be, as a lady. Kind of, but in most of his strips there's something more going on than just "Here's an awkward situation!" whilst a lot of these comics pretend to show extreme behaviours, most people would be able to sympathise completely and so they enjoy it more, that's fine, but it's hardly groundbreaking stuff.
It's a bit like an anecdote Louis C.K has about a time on a talk show, he mentions an event that lead to a stand-up skit about his doctor just telling him that the pain in his arm is something he just deals with now. A fellow talk show guest blankly looks at C.K and interrupts him mid-flow saying that she's surprised the doctor wouldn't do more. No humour to be had and shut down the vibes.

As far as Sarah goes, I honestly think it's because it reeks of a false sense of individuality while being overwhelmingly basic. There's some kind of pseudo female intimacy going on. It's very shallow relatability. The comic isn't inherently bad though, but it hit peak when people were kinda tired of #relatable comics.
