Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders will replace Attack on Titan on July 29.

Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans S2 will replace Tokyo Ghoul in October.

Adult Swim is funding two new 6 episode seasons of FLCL. Set for 2018.

Last week, we started the healing process of having Jack out of 11. While it wasn't a huge boost, most agreed the short notice was to blame and we would see more improvement this week. And instead things actually did worse, with Kai pulling some record lows. Perhaps there really was no cure for the cancer Toonami has.

Honestly for all the shit you guys gave Home Movies, Jack and Venture's ratings are far more atrocious. Low ratings in a historically dead slot is one thing but in the VB's case it's just horrible. Nothing in the 10 PM slot should ever be that low especially that close to the block.

>>
>>93971085

The decimal is the percentage of people who tuned into the show out of total viewers. Say that a hundred million people are watching television on a given and that twenty million of them watch a show.

So it'd look like:

20000 20.0 15000

The third number is the total viewers of that target demographi; in this case, the 18-49 age bracket.

So Kai had 741,000 total viewers for the midnight showing of which 446,000 were the key 18-49 demographic and slightly over a third of a percent of the entire television audience tuned in to watch it.

So from what I see >>93968856 & >>93968885

It looks like 11pm FG hit 1M, then we lose about 15% of that going into Super and it steadily goes down from there. Since the last ep. of Titan is this Saturday, I wonder if he's just going to drop GITS and put Titan there or are we just going to drop Titan altogether?

It's like he made some bets which would've been smart 3 years ago, but are backfiring in the worst way now.

The manga maybe but Toei made the series downright unwatchable. They spend almost 1/3rd of an episode on recap and the episode to chapter ratio is downright abysmal and makes every action and plot advancement feel unnecessarily dragged out. OP honestly needs the Kai treatment if it ever wants to be watchable again.

IBO S2 comes in October when TG: Root A is over with. Those are gonna be the last two anime we get this year. 2018 looks a bit different since the Buu Saga should be done by then, but since after August, DeMarco has grounds to run a marathon every month (with 2 in December), it remains to be seen.
>>
>>93973376
Don't get me wrong, I liked part 1 and thought part 2 was god tier for me but even I know that Part three's gonna be a ratings disaster. Normies'll tune in for the first few weeks because 'muh memes'. Once they realize they'd be here for over a year, they'll either back off the series entirely or binge it online. DESU, I'm not really looking forward to part 3 either. Part 1 was kinda slow but Jonathan, Dio and Speedwagon made it alot more enjoyable. Part 2 was pretty fun by itself but Joseph really made watching it worthwhile. I just don't think Jotaro'll pique my interest like the previous Jojo's did.

>>
>>93973548

The only real way to stem the bleeding now is to go further back and pick up lesser known shows and just keep DBZ and Super as staples and rotate them out every 12 weeks. After IBO S2, we'll get one opening, because everything else will still be running then. They might use the opening for FLCL S2 & 3 or maybe that's the point - lasting long enough to get those two shows aired and then dying.

It's funny how r/Toonami is telling themselves that those shows will help the block.

> Those shows had great ratings when they were on and their return will help bring the night up.

Because the experience you get watching Toonami isn't something streaming sites can provide. A huge part of Toonami's appeal is the presentation. The bumps, the promos, the banter from TOM and SARA during things like reviews, and especially the aesthetics. Even including the maybe misguided TOM4 era, Toonami's packaging has almost always been one of the foremost sci-fi imagery in network animation. And while the opportunity to showcase music kind of took a hit with the loss of the NOW/NEXT/LATER bumps, the music is still a huge reason to watch the block.

https://youtu.be/lZxeVpSWs0A?t=2m37s
https://youtu.be/IP4BpqmwyUs
>>
>>93977550
If you have seen TOM push buttons once, you have seen it a million times. The weekly unique banter is gone, you can watch one night of Toonami every 3-4 months and experience all the packaging
>game reviews
Oh yea I can't wait to hear TOM take a fat shit on a game then give it a 9/10 because they are afraid of burning bridges
>music
The block music is nice, but the music videos that are either AS tier acid trips or some we dindu nuffin rap straight from Demarco's iPod are garbage
>>
>>93977550

Remember when we used to have pre-Toonami banter between the two? Now we get some music in front.

>>93977406
It's like they're afraid if they question DeMarco's scheduling choices he'll just take his block and go home. So instead they just keep reassuring themselves that everything will be great, there's no problem.

Compared to the normal Saturday TV audience, it's really not. Plus, it's not just the viewership but the decrease in viewership from what it once was that has everyone on edge. If Toonami was always drawing these type of numbers, I doubt there would be that much of a problem. We once used to draw respectable numbers but are now hemorrhaging viewership which is now becoming a trend. The worry by AS is that the trend will continue as the block keeps loosing views to streaming services, legal or otherwise, eventually leading to the block's death. The sad part is that there is really nothing that can be done to save the block. Nevermind Demarco picking a bunch of shitty series to air. Why would someone watch one of the series that every anon here keeps recommending on this block if it can be binge watched on a stream rather than having to wait a week in between episodes?

They were, in the English dub. In the original, they simply didn't have accents. If you're gonna go the extra mile of giving them accents, the least you could do is make them good ones, not joke ones.
>>
>>93989611
You are missing the point, it's a goofy show so they gave them fun accents. It's just jojobronies think their show is good and serious that every bit of it needs to be taken super serious
>>
>>93989588
I could buy that for part 2 on account of it's goofy nature but part 1 was much more serious for me to believe that they would do a gag like that. More likely is that there are not a lot of native British or Italian VA's.
>>
>>93985280
This gives me hope for the Part 3 dub. I'd rather have them voice act naturally than having their acting stunted by a bad accent. The latter is what made some moments in 2 unbearable to get through.

Different culture. Different views on VAs. Plus, JP VAs also can sing, along with other things.

>the simpsons voice people get like 200k+ an episode
The Simpsons VAs are literally staples to the characters. And have been doing it for decades. That is the only reason they get paid that much, even though Fox doesn't even want to pay them that amount in the first place, but had no choice when they threatened to walk off.

The strike is not going to get anywhere and only the smart VAs that aren't part of it know that. You're not going to get payed like you're Brad Pitt for doing funny voices.
>>
>>93997064

Isn't videogame VA way more profitable than anime VA?
>>
>>93992870
I thought only the VG VAs were on strike
>>
>>93997388
It depends on the game, I think. You'll get paid a good amount for a AAA title. That is why Troy Baker pretty much dumped anime.

The problem with Anime VAs is that they can only do different pitches of the same voice, although, that explains why anime dubbing is considered so low.
>>
At this point I have no idea why ratings are tanking. It's easy to say it's cause the block is terrible but the block has been stuffed with garbage anime for a long time. I don't know what's going on anymore.
>>
>>93996514
>jap VAs get tons of money
A-listers do, and even B-listers can make decent money. But rookie seiyuu do not make a whole lot. They earn more than animators but that's hardly a good measuring stick.
>>
>>93998791
We need quality anime like Martian Successor Nadesico
>>
>>93998791
Streams.
>>
>>93996514
Japanese seiyuu are divided into tiers. Top tier seiyuu are multitalented celebrities. They host radio programs, sing, act, go on TV talk shows, etc. A lot of their income is not just the money they get from anime contracts (which is substantial due to the demand for their talent) but also all those other things they have going for them. You basically do not get to A-list status as a seiyuu without also being a singer and having a record deal, it just doesn't happen.
>>
>>93998791

Maybe back when we had four long-runners was the breaking point. I mean, 2018 will be a little better in the sense that we should have more openings up.

The following will go into 2019:

>DB Super
>HxH - we should be a few weeks from completion by the time that wraps up

Most of the rest of the shows should wrap up by the middle of next year.

Of course, with Internet speeds being so fast now, streaming just very well may end us all. Perhaps a more eclectic block was necessary after all? Or maybe it's that we don't have anything as violent as Parasyte on anymore, but Part 3 should fix that.
>>
>>93998915
Super is probably the most underwhelming show on the block. It somehow takes any sense of suspence from the original DB/DBZ and makes it bland. The animation, ,dialogue and atmosphere the team builds up in the show just doesn't leave me wanting more. I never thought this would be the case but I've come to despise Super more than GT.
>>
>>93999040

Wait, the dub or the entire thing in general? Because I feel the Goku Black and Tournament of Power arcs are a lot better than the movie arcs and the u6 vs u7 arc.

But part of Super's problem right now is we know everything so far will at least end in a way that gets us to the EoZ episode. They really need to get there and go beyond already.
>>
>>93998791
Because that garbage from before was at least fun to watch and kind of obscure. The garbage we have now is shit most people watched subbed or already got spoiled on due to popularity
>>
>>94000434

>>
>>94000569
>Toonami has aired exactly 1 anime I would call obscure, and maybe 3 I would consider non-mainstream
And these are?
>>
>>94000569
The definition of obscure is different when talking about an audience of hyper casuals. Toonami wouldn't survive a month airing actually obscure shows
>>
>>94000600
GXP is the only thing I would call even remotely obscure, and even then it's not really since it's part of a super famous franchise technically. But it's the closest thing to it due to its age.

3 "non-mainstream" would be Samurai 7, Dimension W, and Michiko & Hatchin. I call those non-mainstream because even while they were airing they didn't enjoy much of a following and interest in them died pretty much right after the show finished airing. Airing on Toonami was probably the best thing for these shows, because that was definitely the most exposure they had gotten in their existence probably.

Everything else is mainstream.

>>94000735
I suppose that's accurate, these people seem to think shounen jump adaptations count as being on the bleeding edge of anime titles.

Just some really shitty pickups unfortunately. Funimation's distancing from Toonami for these few years ain't helping either, we're losing all of the new, mainstream shows.
If Toonami is dying, at least I can enjoy it with Part 3 Jojo.
>>
>>94001605
Chiller is a subscription package horror channel. A few years ago they tried to "compete" with Toonami with their own late night anime block. It lasted 3 weeks.

The biggest reason you guys don't watch consistently is because Toonami doesn't air enough episodic series.

Toonami did well before because shows like Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Beebop could be enjoyed without seeing every other episode. They're going in the right direction with Lupin III but we need more series in the same vein as Space Dandy, Ushio and Tora TV, and School Rumble.

It's frustrating keeping up with Tokyo Ghoul and AoT. Toonami is airing shows that need to be streamed to appreciate fully.

I thought DeMarco was under contract to air the new ep at 8. If not, why doesn't he just put a better show in the 8pm slot?
>>
>>94010006
The 8PM slot being contractual was a "makes enough sense" assumption, so this means either A) Demarco was able to appease Toei execs into letting him drop it and no longer have the start of the block be a rerun or B) It really didn't exist in the first place and yes Demarco was stupid enough to insist a new Super episode at 8PM for at least 20+ weeks in a row

With Streaming services abound and the block steadily losing viewership, I doubt DeMarco has any sort of leverage to bargain with. I think he actually thought it was a good idea to run Super twice in one night, not expecting it to backfire so spectacularly.

>>94001159
As a fan of Michiko & Hatchin before it came to Toonami I was shocked as shit that we got it.
>>
>>93973532
The thing about Part 3 is that Jotaro is actually far from the most interesting character. But Joseph's still around and Polnaref becomes super fun down the line as well.

Basically the entire crew of crusaders is what keeps it from getting too dull, despite the fact that Jotaro's about as interesting as a brick wall.
>>
>>94018603
The best thing about Jotaro is that he does these corny as fuck one-liners and also has great comedic timing when it comes to beating someone up.

Aside from that, though, he's really boring.
>>
>>94018684
Jotaro's basically the 80s silent action guy everyone loved back in the day. A guy who has no personality outside of being badass, Strong as shit, tough as nails but still has standards (ie. he finds taking a woman hostage to be despicable)

Despite Jonathan being the first Jojo I'd argue that Jotaro is the Jojo that is most trying to be Kenshiro.

Don't bother, its generally agreed upon that both the HxH movies were god awful. The first one(Phantom Rouge) was basically discarded manga ideas from Togashi which you can see why he discarded it, it was that bad. The 2nd one(The Last Mission) is like the anime team got together and asked, "How do we write a HxH movie worse than the first one?", and they delivered. You can really tell the difference in writing when HxH isn't written by Togashi, it was basically just your generic shounen filler movie that contradicts everything about HxH and its world, that's how bad the 2nd movie was. The only good thing you can say about both the movies is they both had nice small bits of animation and visuals here or there but that's pretty much it.

Why would I wait 7 days and stay up until 3 AM to watch a single episode of Hunter x Hunter when i can watch several episodes in one sitting at my discretion? Streaming has convenience and variety that normal TV can't compete with, doubly so for an niche market like anime
>>
Why do they always let at least one tard ask a question at these?
>>

>>
>>93997388
Usually yes. Anime voice overs are towards the bottom of the barrel of the acting world in the US (community theater in super small areas and being an extra are usually the lowest).

Dubs are made as cheap as possible in order to have better profit margins, which is why Funimation/Sentai usually reuse the same people because they often perform other duties within the company anyway (writing, ADR, producing, etc) so you don't need to pay a whole lot extra.

Video games pay much more because they're unionized, and have a bigger budget to boot (not to mention they move far more units than anime). Why do you think Troy Baker and Laura Bailey largely moved on from anime to just sticking to video games (and Marvel cartoons)? Even in video games anime shit is usually on the lame end of the pay spectrum. Troy Baker probably made over 4x the money on Bioshock Infinite than he did as Kanji in the Persona 4 games. I'm astonished he even did Catherine

To be fair, both Death Note and Ghost in the Shell were thought to never be happening until recently. It does seem like there's a sudden revival.

There's also Edge of Tomorrow, plans for live-action One Piece/SAO series in development, plus the Robotech project just got a new director out of nowhere.
>>
>>94030655
Because 90's nostalgia is hot right now and anime boomed in popularity in the west during the 90's. Studios are probably preemptively jumping on to the bandwagon early so the second that anime nostalgia hits mainstream millenials, the Hollywood adaptations will already be there for them to consume.

Jotaro is not that interesting on the surface. He's surly and taciturn, quite a change from either Jojo we've seen before. Joseph and Johnathon are pretty different in mannerisms, but both are fairly outgoing people. Jotaro sometimes says hardly 20 words in an episode, if you discount ORAORAORAORA as words that is.

For all that you end up liking him. I doubt he'll be anyone's favorite character, but you'll see his appeal before Part 3 is over. Despite his grumpy, silent exterior he's got a very weird sense of humor that manifests without warning at various parts of the series. In some cases it's so dry you can't even tell he's joking sometimes.
