In which Spider-Man risks the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people by needlessly prolonging a chase after a runaway giant truck carrying radioactive material through a busy streets, directly causing the deaths of everyone inside at least two flipped over cop cars, all for the sake of a couple of shitty jokes he could've made while solving the problem.

Goblin design is good for what they were going for aside from the hair.
You can dislike the creative choice to do the military armor base for the Goblin again but that doesn't mean they made what they set out to do incompetently. Looks vastly more authentic then the Rami suit.

Just how there's a conveniently abandoned and half-sunken laboratory for Doc Ock to reproduce his experiment in "Spider-Man 2". It's a plot device but there's nothing about it that stretches logic and credibility within the narrative.

It was just an abandoned, rotting seaside warehouse that Ock was squatting in while on the run, he was the one who took all the sciency shit there.

ASM2 is shit. The only good thing about it was the suit. Electro fight was boring. Harry fight was shit. Scooby and the gang find a secret lair was boring. Gwen being butt hurt about Peter was unnecessary.

And finally the Rhino scene at the very end was the worst. It was a giant Fuck you to the audience since we thought there was going to be an action scene in the movie. Oh and I am pissed off that Gwen hit her head rather than it being ambiguous/ Spidey sudden stop killer her.

And spider-mans quips just come off as douchey and mean.

>Electro's theme
They had a great thing going on with that song, it was a great underscore to Electro being on screen, so full of anger and vitriol, it was perfect.

But it kills me, absolutely kills me, that just as the song reaches an amazing climax and starts to really cut loose...all that momentum is brought to a screeching halt with the slow-mo Spider-Man webbing people bit.

I don't begrudge showing Spider-Man saving people and slowing it down to see how he does it, but holy hell does that just ruin the moment that music built up to. It's a total anti-climax that never manages to recoup on the loss, even with how it ends on a powerful note.

Ugh, it's so frustrating.

I did like that scene, but I wish that Peter's need to escape the rubble was more urgent. In the original comic he has to lift the rubble to escape drowning in an undersea base and get the medicine back to Aunt May so she doesn't die. Its feels extremely urgent and when he finally lifts that rubble away its so gratifying. In Homecoming he has to lift the rubble away so he can stop a thief from raiding an unmanned plane so he can impress Tony. Given how cool and sympathetic Keaton was as the Vulture...I was kind of rooting for him to pull off his last big heist and fly into the sunset with his family. My biggest problem with Homecoming was the lack of stakes. If Peter hadn't escaped, I'm sure someone would have eventually come along and helped him out, at which point he can just reveal the identity of the Vulture and Iron Man can swoop in and save the day.

>>93801947
I love the scene in ASM2 where he helps that kid that's getting bullied.

The one in ASM1 felt really forced though. That whole movie felt like a car trying to follow Raimi's, just not too closely.
>>
>>93793333
I disagree. The movie sucked ass overall, but I actually really liked Spidey and Electro's exchange when they first met after his transformation. It felt so genuine the way Spidey had a bit of trouble remembering his name initially, but still made it clear they he DID remember him and wanted to help him as a friend. Unfortunately things got really retarded really fast as soon as the cop shot at Max.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=580iA_bOnvo

I couldn't find the other montage of Tracy kicking ass, but that one, too.
>>
>>93793960
That wasn't Electro's motivation at all though. Spider-man clearly did remember him, even if it wasn't by name. He was made because he believed that Spidey was working with the police to distract him while they got a good shot on him. Granted, that still makes no fucking sense because Spidey clearly shouted "Nobody shoot my friend Max" and I refuse to believe that the guy fantasizing about Spider-man wishing him a happy birthday wouldn't give his hero the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just some trigger happy cop.

On that subject, it was also insane that after showing he cared about Max, Peter didn't both sticking around to make sure he got properly detained and received the help that he clearly needed. Instead he went home to work on some sketchy (and seemingly lethal) feature for his webshooters to fight Max with.
>>
>>93794447
>"You've spun your last web, Spider-Man."
>"MJ and I..." (turns on rape taser) "...we're gonna have a helluva time!"

This scene disturbed me, and I was like 12 at the time, way too old for "the bad man beat up Spiderman" to be alarming.
>>
>>93808161
You need to go and watch that movie right now. You need to fully understand just how shitty that movie was.
Not only is it real, but they make a point to zoom in on it as it's happening.

no thanks, I can barely even remember the first TASM
>>
>>93808550
The thing I really hated about Electro is that there was a real disconnect with how we're supposed to see him.

Is he supposed to be a dangerous, crazy asshole or some lonely schmuck? They make him this childlike simpleton who can't catch a break, idolizes Spider-Man, and gets pushed around at work, but when we see his Spider-shrine and his fantasies about lashing out at his boss, it makes him look like a crazy psychopath that we aren't supposed to trust.

Then at the end, Spider-Man, who in their first encounter was nothing but empathetic to the guy, just wastes him and doesn't think twice about it.
>>
>>93808657
>they

romita suit is the best though
>>
>>93808708
It doesn't help that he's built up as the main villain but gets sidelines the moment Harry shows up. At that point Electro just becomes this weird side character who's there to kill time until the Green Goblin is ready to show up. So any developed he could've gotten to clarify who he was and how he fits into the story gets ignored and he ends up being this weird afterthought in a movie that has nothing to do with any of the other subplots. Even when he joins forces with Harry it still feels like the movie has no idea what to do with him.
>>
>not muh rhino
I'm not saying ASM2 was perfect or even good, but if the hill you want to die on is the portrayal of the fucking Rhino of all people you're just being a bandwagoning bitch. There is plenty of shit to take issue with in ASM2. The Rhino is a dumb fucking villain whose entire purpose is that he's a dumb fucking villain.

>>
>>93794447
>I'm struggling to hold back this pitchfork you want to stab me with
>Oh wait, now I can throw you 30 feet and pull a wall down on top of you

why do people think Raimi's films are good? At least the ASM movies are consistent with Peter's powers, he isn't just pathetically weak or godly strong depending on what the scene calls for.
>>
>>93809011

The Super Soldier serum is supposed to take him to the utmost peak of NORMAL HUMAN ability. He's very strong but he's not literally super-strong. He should not be able to leap/fall from huge heights, take insane amounts of damage, fight for long periods without getting tired, etcetera. Captain America is supposed to be the Peak Human, not a superhuman.

This scene is amazing. No excessive CGI. No ambiguously-effective energy blasts throwing people around. No supers punching each other around the landscape like they weigh twenty pounds and not leaving visible damage. Just two superhumans pounding the shit out of each other (with the help of a hand grenade) utterly brutally. The setting is simple but effective and every blow has weight.

Reminds me of the final battles of the Russo MCU films. Compare Captain America vs Iron Man at the end of Civil War with the weightless cartoon brawl between the supers at the airport to get what I mean.

I think you need to rewatch the movie. The rubble scene in HC is partly about stopping Vulture but the stakes are that Peter has to confront the reality that he's more than what Stark's suit made him, and more pertinently, unless he doesn't something about the rubble himself, he's going to die. There's no one coming for him, and he's trapped. It was without a doubt the single best piece of acting from Tom Holland in the movie, the way his voice breaks and the guttural screams make him seem genuinely terrified. Genuinely one of my favourite scenes in Cape Comics.

Raimi wasn't even close. Peter was a stuttering idiot every time he spoke. Even in his earliest incarnations in the comics, Peter was pretty slick and had a sharp tongue. In the earlier issues, the cast thought he was a nerd because of his interests and because he generally stumbled by not responding to people due to concerns like Aunt May. Raimi has him going M M M M M M Mary Jane I I I I Mary Jane I I I can't and she's like I LOVE YOU PETER

Walked out on that scene. It was too hamfisted from the half mask to the shot for shot lifting the rubble. Everyone is saying Holland's acting and blubbering during that scene was Kino. It was as Kino as Garfield's acting and blubbering in TASM when Uncle Ben died.
And the real reason I walked out was because it felt like they had it too early. There weren't exactly stakes at that moment. We still don't know or care about why this Spider-Man is so important. It's like how DCEU had Superman die in his second movie. The film had been nothing but pandering and fanservice up to that point. But when I heard the audience gasping and cheering I knew it was time to leave, it was not going to get any better.
>>
>>93794548

Part of it is because they dont want to have to make a new suit for everytime they destroy one

Part of it is they keep them nice looking to sell toys i believe.

Part of it is also that the suits have become more durable and tear resistant tho too.

I really wish Peter's home made suit showed more damage on it in the final fight in homecoming, but seeing his face bloodied was good enough i guess.

First Spider-Man when they start attacking Goblin. Yeah it was because of 9/11 but it was still great.
Maybe Spider-Man 2 when the civvies try to protect him from Doc Ock but they don't really do anything so maybe not.
TASM with the Crane scene.
V for Vendetta when the citizens put on the Guy Fawkes Masks and start marching to the square.
The Incredible Hulk when General Ross helps fight Abomination but like with Spidey 2 it's kind of just to distract him.

I'd really love it if we got something like that trope in X-Men. Like, maybe some Homo Sapien average Joe is beating up a mutie and another Sapien (not a mutie) comes over and takes the beating for the mutie.

How does this shit movie as better CGI than Homecoming?
>>
>>93832479
Haha. Cool story bro. Yea I'll admit I have rose tinted glasses for Raimi's trilogy, especially because they're what introduced me to Spider-Man. I'll also be the first to admit that they were only as good as they were because of the time they came out. 9/11 happens so Raimi puts in a bunch of patriotic undertones in the first movie. People love it. Spider-Man 2 live because it was the sequel to Spider-Man. Other than the choreography, lighting, and a few actors it doesn't hold up as well. By the time Spider-Man 3 came out people were sick of the character. I mean when you have movies like Batman Begins and Iron Man those other movies like Spider-Man 3, Superman Returns, and Incredible Hulk get overshadowed and look dated in comparison.

Spider-Man Homecoming is just an attempt to cater to the new generation. It didn't bring much to the table except putting Spider-"Man" in 9th or 10th grade. By the time this newest gen grows up the only thing Spider-Man homecoming will be remembered for is having him team up with other Marvel heroes.

Sorry for this wall of text. I know that 4chan isn't a very opinion oriented place but I just can't understand why people hold Homecoming in such high regard

>I know that 4chan isn't a very opinion oriented place but I just can't understand why people hold Homecoming in such high regard

Well on 4chan i dont see it being praised like the second coming (nothing is ever praised here universally)

Homecoming just gives people, primarily MCU fans, exactly what they wanted from a Spidey movie set in the MCU. It doesn't feel like a retread of the same old story (like Spidey 2,3,ASM1 and 2 are), it actually has the best Spidey villain since Dock Ock in it, and its just overall entertaining.

Thats why most people like it.

On top of that....people really haven't gotten a decent spiderman movie since spiderman 2, so they really love that this is at least a good movie.

They had a perfect opportunity to have Superman do that in BvS after the court bombing. It would have been perfect, classic Superman, but they just had him fly off like an asshole instead.

My dude, they don't have to tear up existing costumes and then make fresh new ones for the next movie. They can just make already torn suits. These movies have budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars and you're telling me they can't hire some gook from the tailor shop on the corner to make them a torn up suit? They can't CG one in? I don't buy that. It's not about cost, it's about soccer moms convincing America that violence is bad and blood/torn up clothes should never be shown to impressionable children.

This fight was great. One thing I just love about the Rami movies and the Cap movies is that they're able to show these super powered people fighting and making it feel so powerful and intense without destroying city blocks or throwing cars through buildings. You can clearly tell these two have super strength but the apartment is still in tact after their bout. That's nice.

Why would you build webbing and dress up as a god damn Spider-Man? It's a movie, guy. Shockingly if you apply real world logic it's fucking retarded. Not saying ASM2 was good, but the mech Rhino was hardly the biggest downfall.

Maybe I see things different because I saw it as two different movies. One movie was an average high school story about the kid who wants to get laid. Yo me that felt a tad dated. Sort of like Diary of a Wimpy Kid or American Pie or what have you but with worse dialogue and interactions. That part didn't really have a good resolution. They have to win the science bee. Next scene they do. Peter is a loser who has to get a girlfriend. Turns out two girls like him. Very anticlimactic.

Then there was the Superhero side. Didn't really see that. Spider-Man really didn't do anything super heroic. I say Super because helping an old lady with directions and leaving a stolen bike out in the open (in New York) isn't very abnormal. He never saved anyone and mainly did more harm than good. It just felt like a real life superhero wannabe.

Put the two together and you have a mediocre film. I wouldn't even say it's something to put a little kid in front of to shut him up; seeing as it's so... mature but in a juvenile way. In fact I feel like it was trying to be like several other successful movies. Deadpool, Kick-as,s Super, and Smallville. It's not my cuppa and I just want to know what makes it so good.

Statistically speaking there are more Superman movied with him doing that than Spider-Man. It's still the safest way to travel.

>ea I'll admit I have rose tinted glasses for Raimi's trilogy, especially because they're what introduced me to Spider-Man.
Totally disagree. They stand up on their own because Raimi had a vision and was familiar with the source material.

It's why Homecoming and the ASM fail to grasp a tone. Raimi wasn't ashamed of being corny.

I've been living in Queens since I was a few months old when my mom needed to get a cheaper house. Queens isnt what it used to be in the 60's and 70's where you would see many whites in the neighborhood as shown in the comics. As I'm writing this I'm rewatching Spider-Man and I never realized a ton of extras in this film are black and hispanic so Raimi did great there. I also must say Raimi did a nice touch while may be unintentional all the minority kids sat together and while I didn't go to high school until the year after Spider-Man came out in theaters, as a minority this is very true and probably true for other areas in America and even the world. Currently in Queens I see a similar thing happening which is portrayed in HC where many of the minorities are now moving to the suburbs, but still taking classes at the good high schools in Queens as shown with Liz and her family in Homecoming. I haven't seen ASM since about two years after it came out when it was on TV which was my third time seeing it while the first I could barely watch it since my glasses broke and I barely remember any diversity at all. In HC there was a good mix of whites, asians, hispanics, blacks etc. but in ASM I don't remember it and in Raimi's Spider-Man they were all extras which still felt fine since Peter graduted like 35-40 minutes into the film.

Yeah that's what I really enjoyed about it. You could practically feel like the dude was getting torn in half with that pain in his face.

That's one thing I'll give the old trilogy. In the more recent MCU movies, the bad guy usually explodes off-screen. Back then, you got to watch a guy get fucking impaled to the wall
