Ann Nocenti is underrated.
>>
Now, I know what you're thinking, just when the hell does this story take place?
Well, it was published around the time Inferno was going on, but it obviously couldn't take place then, so for simplicity's sake I put it here, right after the Genosha arc.
>>
If it doesn't fit all that well, sue me. Or better, sue Marvel.

Colossus: The Man of Steel!

Something I've always loved about Piotr's Colossus form is that he doesn't just turn into a metal-skinned dude, he actually has a very particular pattern on his skin. It's neat.

Sometimes wonder how Marvel Comics Presents would have turned out had they stuck with their original plan to have a different solo X-Men story every couple of months. They abandoned it and went full on Wolverine around issue #48 save for the random one-off (Mirage, Mojo, Warlock, Beast) but I wonder what kind of stuff we would have gotten had it stayed the course:

The Archangel filler solo story from Judgement War expanded to around 10-12 issues

Hellions solo stories perhaps, even showing Warpath leaving the team perhaps to set up him joining X-Force

The story of how Havok got captured and brainwashed by Cameron Hodge and the Genoshans

Nocenti doing more Longshot shit

Maybe Claremont doing flashback shit with Rogue to explain what the fuck happened between Rogue/Mystique and Carol Danvers?
>>
>>93755640
It takes place in Nocenti time.
>>
Alright, now I should be able to finish this with no further interruptions.
>>
>>93755729
Just calling mutants freaks would probably make a better slur than mutie.
>>
>>93758947
The best kind of time!
>>
>>93758596
Yeah, it's fun to wonder, especially when it comes to the X-Men, where there's been a ton of editorial-sided what ifs.

Apparently not, Zack!
>>
it's funny how Marvel is the more "down to Earth" of the big 2 but in this era, late 80s, Nocenti is really the only one I can think of touching on real shit whereas DC had like a fucking line about military industrial shit
>>
Wait, WHAT
>>
>>93755640
Colossus really is too pure.

Well shit, I guess he really DID die!

Alright, that's it for today. See ya guys next time, when we go from Genosha, to the heart of America, to England! That's right, it's Excalibur time!
>>
>>93760102
Nah. He said he was going to pass on his spirit to his daughter, and Nocenti is definitely one to not mean that as a metaphor.

seriously? was that really the closest thing they had? they just had hyena blood laying about? not cow, pig, or anything, you know, local to the USA?

anon...get help.
>>
>>93760587
>not having a stash of hyena blood on hand so you can inject it into your henchman and see what happens
Do you even mad science?
>>
>>93760587
Hyenas are totally local to the US if you're willing to abuse eminent domain on the right Zoo.
>>
Y'know, I have this theory about the X-Men, their villains, and mutants in general: they are allegories.
Professor X is a teacher who molds young minds - - - so he's a telepath who manipulates minds.
Magneto is a polarizing political radical - - - so he's the master of magnetism.
Rogue began things as a young and impressionable girl who matured too fast and so was traumatized by the experience of physical contact - - - take a wild guess...

But Colossus (and Beast, while I'm admitting it) was a complete puzzle to me.
What could Peter's allegorical purpose possibly be? He's not secretly gay, or banging his sister ... yet, or even a masochistic guilt-riddled killer. So what is he?

Yesterday I figured it out when re-reading that Jean Grey comic : he's the guy in denial.
He steels himself against anything that would harm him and he doesn't feel any pain.
He never notices in twenty years of sex-free comics that his girlfriend is a lesbian, he still thinks his Hellperv sister is an innocent little snowflake, and he still thinks he's noble and pure and incorruptible despite all the bad things he does.

This guy is all about denial, tell me I'm wrong.
>>
>>93756317
I think it's a little hilarious that they call it racist, when Peter's probably whiter than they are. They're literally the exact same skin tone on the page as well.

it's denial/obliviousness and something about hiim just wanting to be a farmer. Something about denying himself that simple life he wants to be an X-Man maybe
>>
>>93755770
>This page right here is like a time capsule from the eighties.

If you wanted to write these same characters today to convey the same message, it wouldn't be the Russians, but "the deep state," "the globalists" and "the homosexual agenda." Ironically, they'd be extolling the virtues of the Russians as pure and morally perfect as a society. A model of what America should be!
>>
>>93758185
>captcha is literally KINO

If you're storytiming you really ought to shell out the ten bucks or so for a gold pass. Seriously worth it for a year of no captchas and 10 second delays between posts. I got one months ago and it's well worth it to save the aggravation.
>>
>>93761222
Iceman and Cyclops, did you reach a conclusion about them?
>>
>>93759132

A right-wing authoritarian with an unnatural fear of the press, eh? Timely.
>>
>>93761222
Peter is super hard on the outside, and super gentle on the inside. Also, Stalin literally means man of steel.

Beast has been a couple of things, but it's always been about the balance between cultured inteligence and physicality.

>>93761794
I can only speculate what kind of triggered the fuckers would have been from this book.
>>
Thanks OP.
>>
>>93761535
In House-of-M his wish WAS to be a farmer that had never left Russia.

>>93761972
Hardly worth it when you think about all the constant Marvel-bashing off-topic shitposts from /pol/ and the DC shills that will be a continuing aggravation.

>>93762067
Iceman was always "cold" to the ladies ... hey, it's not as if they were making mutants with the ability to make themselves literally light in the loafers.
And the guy with the moral fiber of Superman, the dedication of Batman, and an all-around perfect superhero persona was trying just a little too hard to be the perfect X-Man. Doncha think?
(plus, he was kinda known for repressing something explosive)
Given Xavier's powers, how sure are you that was the real Scott Summers?

>>93762084
More like timeless.

>>93762208
I also like the comparisons to Superman: Man of steel, raised a humble farmer, travelled from far away to embrace America's truth'n'justice, bla bla bla.
>>
>>93761972
>japmoot
>on your /co/?

It's more likely than you think
>>
>>93763366

Hey, I've done a fair bit of storytiming here before and after getting a pass. I'm just saying I know what's more convenient and less-aggravating.
>>
>>93761222
So what are Illyana's power an allegory for?
>>
>>93760044
Wait, what happened to the people shooting at them? I feel like we missed something important.
>>
>>93763837

Seems like the police showed up and ordered the combat cyborgs to give up and they just did.

Which is... surprising, really. But I guess maybe the fact that they started off as government agents informed their actions in such a way as to demand a certain deference to law enforcement?
>>
>>93763770
... ORIGINAL: Russian immigrant girl goes through Hell to come to 'merica.
...RECENT: Naughty little sister is not the good girl her big brother thinks she is.
...MODERN: That Hell is still inside her despite her moving on and becoming accepted.

Come on, give me a tough one.
>>
>>93755444
bump.
>>
>>93755682
>i wish we had freedom
>why don't you go back, then?
That doesn't make sense.
>>
>>93759223
"Nina" is greek for a "little girl" btw
>>
>>93759564
Must be shell-shock of sorts
>>
Thank you
>>
>>93731630
>Rogue finally can touch someone without harming them
>her first experience with sex is getting raped
I still don't understand why Pym slapping Jan gets referenced so damn much and this gets completely ignored.
>>
Thanks!
>>
>>93769670
Because whenever that up it's to mock or demean Hank as a character, whereas with Rogue there's really not much point to repeatedly disparaging random Genosha thugs for 20 years.
>>
>>93759515
>My skin comes in patches from many strangers, many countrymen--
But anon, what if he's not actually a black guy? What if they just grafted black people skin on him just because they are the most expendable?
>>
>>93759882
Colossus truly is the first Street Fighter character.

Yeah his art in this is really reminiscent of Bengus' work, very top-heavy proportions.
