does Longshot do anything significant?
does the art improve?
>>93705822
Marvel early 90's annual art is truly shit. I have the X-Force omni, and Liefield legit looks okay next to some of the other artists in that book.
Also Art motherfuckin' Adams!
>>93705778
I know they have not aged well, but the nostalgia from these books is amazing; really ground breaking and original at the time too. Thanks anon.
So yeah, Dazzler and Longshot got busy, it seems.
>>93705855
Liefeld isn't bad
>>93705858
He does the asgard stuff later too, right? >>93705859
They have aged like wine compared to some of the stuff Englert(for example) did in the 70's and a lot of the stuff that is coming out now already seens dated to me.
Dayum, that last panel tho
>>93705894
why is he hollow boned
>>93705910
I agree, I am just gun shy, so I dance around it.
I wish at least when people posted bad liefield examples they'd vary the images a little more.
I enjoyed the fuck out of X-Force and I. Eas sorry it ended so quick.
>>93705920
Asgard Wars already happened, my man.
>>93705920
He did that excellent New Mutants Special back when Loki was trying to romance Storm and Karma was fat from being possessed by the Shadow king.
>>93705971
Yeah, that's the one. Karma does the Balder wasteland waist reduction.
>>93705946
Because he's from Mojoworld.
>>93705946
He's a weird clone from the same dimension s Mojo
>>93705965
>asgard wars already happened.
Well, shit.
>>93706030
Longshot is too pure
That splash page is amazing. Adams has a remarkable sense of scale.
Colossus is of course thinking of that time way back when, when he banged a Savage Land lady.
>>93706122
Underselling it. After punching out a T-Rex he went off to have a threesome with two savage land ladies
Oddly enough, the first comic I ever read with Terminus in it wasn't a Marvel comic! JLA/Avengers, one of the very few Avengers comics I've ever read.
>that SHZAM inside Dazzler's laser
Masterful lettering work desu
>>93706204
That was a fun little story. Good shit, those Classic X-Men backups.
>>93706260
>Masterful lettering
Have we gotten to that issue where Silvestri visually shows Dazzler's power by having her pull the lettering out of speech bubbles? I swear that's a trick he used once
>that group picture
Hey X-Anon, how thorough are we being here? Have you been putting up guest appearances? The Iceman mini? Or is this just the core and solo books? Captain Britain's UK only stuff?
>>93705858
>>93705894
That white sheen on the black wasn't a good choice. Classic blue would've been better.
Ah yes, Zaladane. This character has a... pretty ironic fate, if certain rumors are to be believed.
>>93706462
>that THICC hair
>>93706374
Guest appearances for the most part no, although there have been exceptions. X-related minis like Iceman's, yes, I have storytimed that.
I also ran Captain Britain's Moore and Delano runs.
>>93706481
Everyone's hair is out of control when Adams is drawing.
>big guy
>How can I say no?
2pure
Whatta twist!
Teamwork, yay
I sure wonder who Petey Jr.'s father is!
The star is, of course, a sly little call-back to what Maddie was thinking about in previous UXM issues.
And now, Mojo time!
Heh.
>>93707496
god i'm so disappointed with Mojo coming back in Gold/Blue because they won't take the chance to be fucking brutally satirical
>>93707681
Bunn/Guggy are both boring as fuck, can't believe they get Soule to write Astonishing too
why can't my muties have fun writers again
Would you?

>>93707740
>)
that's hilarious
>>93707681
It'd be great if they made fun of the relentless movie-making machine that is Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, there's a 0.00% chance of that ever happening under Disney.
>>93707722
I know, it hurts ;_;
>>93707740
Femneto is a legit 10/10.
Haha, I love babby Wolverine.
Love it.
>>93707826
Remender sort of did when Mojo showed up in Uncanny Avengers
>>93707826
gimme that team
Sorry, I had to go look for the missing pages of this annual.
>>93708507
And now he's gone, left for greener, creator-owned pastures.
>>93707722
Bunn really shines when he's writing horror, they should give him Man-Thing
Now onto Web of Spider-Man... where I can't remember what the hell happened in this issue!
le bump, I am reading the previous uncanny x men storytime right now, then ill continue with this
>>93706363
Wouldn't that be Orzechowski's doing?
BAMF
>>93705910
IMO he got bad after the Marvel Exodus. Prior to that he was ok with some bad moments.
>>93706652
Colossus has a KID!!!!
>>93707677
what's the story on that girl bound to the ship?
And now, onto the climax!
>>93712443
That's Ricochet Rita, former stuntwoman, friend of Longshot that's trapped in Mojoworld, andthe future Spiral
Oh, and visually based on writer Ann Nocenti.
I'm nacked right now, so I won't comment much if at all on these next two annuals. Neither of them are X-books anyway.
>>93712601
>Ricochet Rita
thanks for the info X-Anon, you are truly a scholar and a gentleman.
>>93712845
np anon
The Longshot mini should be in the Mega still, if you want to read up on her and Longshot.
X-question,does Gideon ever get mentioned outside of X-Force?
Is Cannonball still an immortal?
>>93712913
>X-question,does Gideon ever get mentioned outside of X-Force?
He got killed by Selene in X-Force and hasn't come back since.
>Is Cannonball still an immortal?
Dunno, I haven't read a X-book since... fuck, 2012?
>>93707681
Rumor is that there is going to be a huge twist for the Mojo storyline involving him being in the crapper ratings-wise and why he's come to Earth to force the X-Men to fight Sentinels and clones of Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
Most likely they are going to canonize the notion that the Inhumans are the reason: IE Mojo (like Ike) decided to stop showing X-Men exploits in favor of Inhumans exploits and it destroyed him ratings-wise.
>>93707496
Ironically, in a bad fucking way, this was the fucking story that basically killed Mojo's credibility as a villain.
Before this, he was a literal Lovecraftian monster, an abomination of unspeakable evil and depravity and basically a proper Eldritch Cosmic Horror villain for the X-Men to fight.
This story turned him into a sad sack comedy villain who isn't scary at all and basically was nothing more than a god-awful outlet for Claremont to bitch about how he hated Bob Harras.
>>93713331
They would never shit on Ike that blatantly, would they?
>>93713385
I never thought Mojo was that scary desu
I mean, I get that he looks creepy and all, but even in Longshot's mini he cracked me up. I dunno, maybe Nocenti has a real warped sense of humor that speaks to me.
>>93713007
Cannonball's immortality was retconned in the same story where Selene killed Gideon as far as Selene laughing at Cable and the rest of the team and telling them Cable fucked up misdiagnosing Cannonball's injuries when Sauron impaled him and that he was never an External
Also, Hickman basically revealed that Gideon was right all along/Cable was wrong about Sunspot/Cannonball and the great destiny prophecy that led to Cable to stay with the New Mutants when he saw Sam was with them.
Gideon thought Suspot was the External/prophecy boy and not Cannonball (hence why Gideon murdered Sunspot's dad to force him to leave the New Mutants). While both were wrong about the External part, they were right about Bobby being the prophecy boy as seen by his actions in Hickman's Avengers run and in When Time Runs Out in particular.
>>93713494
I see. I kinda forgot about most of pre-Milligan X-Force, not gonna lie.
>>93713433
Read New Mutants Annual #2 and X-Men Annual #10. Claremont made Mojo Elder God level big bad
>>93713541
I mean yeah, he had his scary moments, don't get me wrong. He's still supposed to be threatening. I just don't see how a silly little backup ruins him? It's like those people that hate Waid's Unthinkable because it messes with their Doom headcanons about "Doom the honorable antihero" or whatever.
>>93713529
The mass killing of the Externals happened under Jeph Loeb's watch.
Longstanding rumor is that basically the Highlander franchise owners found out what Liefeld and Niceiza had set up in the X-Books (Externals and "The Highlord Ascension", the later of which was supposed to be the entire pay-off to Cable's arc with Apocalypse, the Legacy Virus, and the long running "The Twelve" storyline that had been going on since the late 80s) and threatened to sue.
So all of the External characters Rob and Fabian created were killed off, Sam declared not immortal after all, all mention of the Highlord Ascension dropped and basically the big plans for the Twelve storyline and Cable vs Apocalypse declared off-limits.
>>93713652
Hah, that's hilarious.
>>93713607
The thing about the Doom-Fags, is that they want Doom to be a good guy 24-7. Doom works best as a super-duper bad guy who has a warped code of honor (motivated solely by self-preservation) that causes him to occasionally help the heroes when a bigger threat comes along.
I remember hating "Unthinkable" when it first came out and only really read the prologue chapter. But a couple of years ago, I landed the first HC of the Waid run for like $5 and read Unthinkabe in full and was shocked how good it was. Far far far better than Hickman's dogshit "Doom is a good guy and we really really WOULD be better off with Doom as our tyrant king" fanwank
>>93713732
100% agreed. If I ever got to write F4 I would write Doom out of the book in the first arc just because I'm annoyed at how trite the character has become.
>Far far far better than Hickman's dogshit "Doom is a good guy and we really really WOULD be better off with Doom as our tyrant king" fanwank
See, this is the one thing I really hated from Hickman's F4/FF, the fact that Doom was like another member of the team, but he was "too good" for the team too. That shit really annoyed me because the character was constantly hogging the spotlight from the actual protagonists of the book. Meanwhile, lots of other great F4 villains get wasted in other series.
>>93712554
Ah the West Coast Avengers. The original super team spin off/splinter team. You can't tell me Justice League Europe wasn't just a damn injoke to poke fun at Marvel
Like, what was Diablo's last appearance? Some shitty cameo in a Bendis book? Fuck outta here.
And when's the last time you saw the Hate-Monger or the Impossible Man? Or fuck, Nega-Man, a character I'd love to reinvent?
>>93713888
But the entire point of Secret Wars' ending is that we wouldn't be better with Doom, not only that, but he fucks up an accelerates the end of everything.
>>93706535
>>93706567
>>93706652
Dazzler's adorable in this particular book.
>>93713977
I'm talking about Doom in the context of Hickman's Fantastic Four run, I never read Secret Wars. I know the basics, but the whole Avengers/New Avengers shebang sounds zzzzzzzzzzz
>>93713977
Doom saved everything but in typical Doom fashion, fucks it up big time in the aftermath. Hence why Doom couldn't fix his disfigured face in Secret Wars.
Also, Reed may have recreated the Multiverse, but consider that he created SJW cancer Marvel. Complete with Inhumans genociding mutants and no one doing ANYTHING to stop them, Scott Summers worse than Hitler, Hank Pym irrevocably fused to Ultron, HYDRA CAP. FUCKING HYDRA CAP happened on Reed's watch as God and Reed did NOTHING.
So yeah, Marvel's basically spent the last couple of years canonizing the fact that Doom literally IS better at being God than Reed Richards.
>>93714129
That's just Marvel being horribly tone deaf desu senpai
Last Spidey annual! Here we have an appearance of a Gwen Stacy clone (don't ask me which one) and some losers called the Young Gods. Other than that, it's a pointless stopgate on the way to the ending.
>>93714047
Well it's the actual endng of his Doom story.
>>93714129
None of that has anything to do with Hickman or my post, anon.
As this is a storytime imma shutup now.
>>93714264
Well, that's the problem, I really do not give a shit about Doom. I want to read about the Fantastic Four, dammit.
ah thanks OP
I'm about to start reading and catch up, got a bottle of wine and just got off work
My three favorite Marvel properties, for those wondering, are the X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four. So yeah, you can take an easy guess as to what I think about current Marvel.
And finally, the ending!Atlantis Attacks is going to hurt soooooooo bad, I'm seriously considering skipping the non-X issues.
>>93714324
'sup, /co/mpadre.
How are you guys doing tonight?
>>93714361
Atlantis Attacks is actually a THOUSAND times better than Evolutionary War.
Byrne heavily plotted out the entire thing and outside the New Mutants tie-in (in which Simonson and Liefeld ignored wholesale Byrne's plot synopsis for her chapter), it's way better than Evolutionary War in every way. Basically a non-stop ride with one of the cooler storylines (unleash Set the Seven Headed Snake upon the world) for a crossover
Don't fucking skip it.
>>93714361
Don't do it boy... Be a man
>>93714430
>>93714442
Alright, alright, I'll do it just for you 'cause I like ya a lot.
Now don't take that too seriously.
I do have a lot of admiration for the overly complex narrative of Atlantis Attacks, it's just that I've never been too close to that corner of the MU, so the whole thing is just... really unappealing to me.
But hey, I'm probably going to be the first guy, at least in years, to storytime the whole thing so that should be fun.
brb
>>93714338
Don't jump on the knee-jerk hating of modern X-Men bandwagon, they're actually staying faithful to the Stan Lee and Claremont material these days, which is more than anyone can say about the '90s.
>>93714648
The new stuff just looks so... bland and undaring. I want something new, dammit! Not these boring rethreads.
>>93714994
... *GASP!*
LOOK! The Monkey's Paw! ... It moved it's finger...
>>93715392
I'll happily take the blame for any meme magic-related occurrences.
God, it's so weird to think you have a grasp on a past comic world and then an old crossover connects to characters in another comic at a story you never thought of as being, y'know, that same era.
Alright, that's it for the Evolutionary War. Next time we go back to UXM! See ya guys then!
Thanks OP
>>93714517
The whole "Atlantis Attacks the surface world" shit is actually just window dressing forced by editorial on Byrne. It's really a good old fashion Lovecraftian horror crossover as far as Byrne doing a sequel to Mark Gruenwald and George Perez's famous Serpent Crown trilogy from Marvel Two-In-One.
It's also epic as fuck since it's the last hurrah of Set/Serpent Crown as far as Marvel retiring the Serpent Crown and Set once the story ends. Even Brubaker, at the height of his power, couldn't get Marvel to bring back the Serpent Crown, hence him having to make a generic "Thorn Crown" replacement macguffin in Secret Avengers
>>93713732
WRONG.
Doctor DOOM fans don't want him to be turned into a hero, they want him to be recognized as having always been heroic by virtue of his sheer bad-ass-ness, that transcends mere morally immature definitions of "good-guy" and "bad-guy".
>>93716988
Cancer.
>>93708694
Did Marvel think High Evolutionary was going to be the next big thing if they were cramming his origin story into this many annuals?
>>93713541
fun Mojo is always better though
