Most people now-a-days joke about how hard it is to take care of themselves with basic shit like fucking showering, eating, and walking. The "old folks" were able to support a family a four.
>>
>>93595953
Those aren't adult tasks, those are social interaction socially awkward/retarded people have problems with.

Ah, yes. The mythological pale, short haired attainable girl. The neet's kryptonite.
>>
>>93595982
Right, every single person years ago had their life completely together and only now in this modern age do people fall apart. No you retard, the only reason you hear about these people now is that they can bitch about it on social media.

>>93594947

>>93596054
Or maybe they realized it was socially retarded to brag about how you're incapable of boiling water or forming basic sentences to say to other people?

It's not about actually having your life together so much as taking pride and constantly jabbing about how difficult it is to go to work for a basic eight hour shift.

If I joked to my grandmother about paying my bills and how hard it is, she'd give me a fucking earful and tell me to grow up.

I recently bought a house with a mortgage and live by myself and adulting isn't hard at all.

I've allocated money for bills, I don't buy frivously but don't have to budget crazy hard, I can cook and clean and do normal maintenance tasks fine. Got a good work/life balance too.

Is it really today's sheltered upbringing? I guess I'm only a few years older than these people but my parents were firm, instilled a sense of having to try hard at things, had teachers who asked if me wanting to do biomedical science was being realistic and I worked extra hard to prove them wrong. Had disappointments and tough times but saw them through.

My younger sister tried to overdose on paracetamol because she "couldn't cope" with exam stress.
>>
>>93596117
People couldn't say those things because there was no outlet for them to do so. Now you can talk about your retardation all you want from the safety of your own home

>Most people now-a-days joke
>joke
thats the keyword here. There have always been failures who struggle with real life, where you think those uncles and aunts that never married and live with their mother came from?

But you are being a naive if you think that if the internet existed back then, you wouldn't have people making light jokes about their every day inconveniences.

>>93596117
>If I joked to my grandmother about paying my bills and how hard it is, she'd give me a fucking earful and tell me to grow up.

And most people her age, and those a couple years younger, constantly bitch about their medical expenses. You are being a kid who is putting an older generation on a pedestal. I have worked factory jobs with people in their mid to late 40s and they talk bout their everyday problems just as much as any kid in his 20s.

Joking or commenting on keeping up with paying bills is probably the most unifying sentiment in the current economic climate.

>here is where I go full

>>93594947
1. You politely tell them you're good and don't need any help. If they keep talking be friendly even if you don't want to be because working in retail sucks and you should have some compassion.

2. You literally just have to pay attention when you ask them their menu or order from places you've been to

3. Stay involved and look for a way to join in. Even if you make it awkward, you're still trying and people can tell.

4. You just have to be honest and say you don't know a lot about what they're talking bout so you can't really say anything. If they're nice they'll steer the conversation into something that can include you

I'm introverted as fuck but even I understand you have to be try. Those aren't even real nightmares for introverts.

I've known pretty girls with social issues before. It's the equivalent of an alcoholic living next door to a liquor store. Most of their relationships, romantic or otherwise, end in them having a neurotic meltdown, but they have such an easy time meeting people that they just keep repeating their mistakes. I knew one in particular who seemed like a typical cute "lol nerd girl", but the moment you were alone in the car with her she'd start getting anxious and ramble about her medication. Of course being this honest would just make you look like a weirdo. So you end up having to give some shitty non answer like "I don't have much to say"

>That wouldn't be an honest answer

That's only if you don't want to be there. You can have a reason to be somewhere and if there is a reason, then you've weighted the opportunity cost vs not being there and have decided you WANT to be there because it's worth more than not being there. In which case you should try your hardest to make it worthwhile because you made the choice

By the time the generation that's 18-35-ish now is 70, significant life extension tech may exist, but will be extremely expensive to the point that it's irrelevant. Space tourism exists, but has no impact on normal people's lives.

It won't be cheap and easily accessible enough to be relevant for well after we're dead, if ever.
If you're manufacturing the immortality tech, you essentially have free access to it. From that point on, why bother making MORE money once your very extravagant wants and needs are met? Why bother moving out of the luxury market, when very rich people will pay you enough money to live like a god anyway?

Even if life extension like you're describing would be possible, it would never be made accessible. Once you control it, enforcing inequality in lifespan is the best way to control everything else. It will never see use past the richest and most powerful 0.1 percent of people.

You're viewing things through a negative filter in which any given situation is bad and must remain bad. If you have a job, you must either make the job enjoyable or work on finding another job.

If the former, then you need to be positive, if the latter you don't really care what the others think so it shouldn't bother you.

Nope, wrong. I am a fairly positive person, I am just not a social person and enjoys being alone. I have a shitty job because I am a student and have to do shitty jobs until I get a degree that allows me to not have a shitty job. BTW that whole positive think has being debunk and can be fairly harmful. If you don't feel good, its okay to not feel good.

This.
Though there are times it's warranted, it's usually a toss up. You seem like you're nice about it, which I'm sure you know is extremely appreciated, based on your experience.
Example
>work at sporting goods store up until last fall
>have to make rounds around the camping/fishing/hunting department
>70-80% of the people in fishing know what they're looking for and will find it because they've been fishing for years
>check in because I have a good work ethic and I want to stay in good graces
>still usually feel like a nuisance
>sometimes I would have someone that was getting annoyed, but still had to eventually check again while trying not to be too annoying
>occasionally someone would be snappy with me about it, a few when I first came to see if they needed anything
That last thing is the worst.
Glad I don't work there anymore.
Alternatively
>there's yet another person at gun counter that wants a home defense type shotgun
>they point at a hunting shotgun and ask if that'd work
>tfw having to explain not all of a gun-type are created equal, and that hunting shotgun would be both unwieldy indoors and, as meant for longer range, be a greater potential risk to neighbors and people in other areas of the house
>"oh ok, then what about (actual home defense shotgun)"
>...yes, that's a much better choice"

Difference is that Michelle Carter didn't just say "kill yourself" once. When her boyfriend kept talking about wanting to kill himself, she tried to make stop but once he started getting cold feet she kept telling him to go through with it like a psycho.
>You're gonna have to prove me wrong because I just don't think you really want this. You just keeps pushing it off to another night and say you'll do it but you never do
>You better not be bull sh*ting me and saying you're gonna do this and then purposely get caught
>Everyone will be sad for a while, but they will get over it and move on. They won't be in depression I won't let that happen. They know how sad you are and they know that you're doing this to be happy, and I think they will understand and accept it. They'll always carry u in their hearts

>The Singularity is bullshit.
The singularity is all but logically inevitable once a seed AI (a human-level artificial intelligence capable of modifying is source code to achieve is goals) is created. I wouldn't bet against it.
>>93595398
>That technology is only gonna be accessible for the top end earners.
That was the case with cars, computers and mobile phones at some point.

The real mistake is to think that the coming singularity is going to be a positive one and that the AI will follow its human creators' commands. It isn't even that it will go full Skynet on us; it will most likely destroy us in a blunder. Also consider the fact that as soon as genetic synthesis becomes cheap (2050s IMO) any terrorist with a M.S. in computational genetics or similar will have a fighting chance at destroying civilization. If you're 20 now, I'd say you are less likely than not to live to be 70. Beware.

This is the worst fucking type of "comedy" in webcomics, and I can't express with words how much I hate them.
First, these people aren't depressed. If they were they wouldn't even have the motivation to vomit this trash onto the internet. They just want people to think they're troubled in a vain attempt at seeming deep and also because depression has become trendy. What a time to be alive.
Second, life is shit in general, everyone knows that. If you're just gonna allude to that fact without at least giving it a clever twist as your punch line, you're a fucking hack.
Third, I'd argue that becoming an adult is the best thing in life. Having complete autonomy over what you do is the best thing you could possibly have. Sure, it get's lonely if you're a sperg like me, but there's the internet for that. You can make friends without scaring them away with your weird interests and your awkward body language.
>>

I dunno, I have a shit ton of money but struggle to get friends to hang out with me because we've all been going down different career paths for over five years now. It's become extremely common that I spend nearly months at a time alone with the only social interaction I get is with my boss or online chats once in awhile. I haven't even been able to get my friends to play video games with me anymore because they simply don't have the time either with work, college, or travel.

Compare this to like, 2012 when I was hanging out with friends at least three - five hours a day, it's been a pretty depressing shift.

And I'd LOVE to spend my money on friends so we can hang out but they consistently feel guilty about me wanting to do stuff like buy them $50 online games we can play, so I end up just not doing it.

Now I just work constantly, earn money, and have no one to spend it on.

I don't understand how people can have existential crises. So what their life is just one tiny tiny thing in a tiny tiny bit of the timeline. Most people move on from that. And shit, in a perfect world most people wouldn't even think that their life was anything more than that. We give the human experience too much value.

That's because English doesn't have set suffixes or much declension for its verbs like Spanish, German, Japanese. A single English word can be used as a noun, a verb, an adjective, and even as an adverb or a preposition, without declension, and in that regard English has more in common with Chinese than any other Indo-European language.

Just because you think she looks attractive doesn't mean she does. Personal insecurities are rarely logical or rational. Modern society puts a huge amount of pressure on people to look good, so even if you do meet the standard it's understandable to worry about not actually measuring up to it. In this particular case she's cute but doesn't really fit the cultural ideal, it's not surprising that she would be insecure about her looks.

I don't really understand how people can claim to be introverted and have a romantic relationship with people. I'm not trying to be disparaging, i'm genuinely curious how a person who dislikes social interaction can form
enough of an emotional connection with another person to develop a romantic relationship.
>>
>>93610336
Look up what introversion is on Wikipedia.
>>
>>93610336

I feel you, I get the impression that most people on the internet who claim to be introverted re just slightly more quiet than normal so they label themselves.

When you get to the point where having to keep up with more than 2 friends feels emotionally exhausting to the point that you can't handle it then maybe I'll listen to you whine about your introversion

That's not what introversion is. Plenty of introverts like interacting with others and are perfectly capable of forming strong relationships, romantic or otherwise. But for introverts extended social interaction is draining and so after a while they need to spend some time away from others doing other shit to "recharge" so to speak.

most people don't really care that much about those things but they talk about them A) to be nice and B) to have something to talk about
I do that, I didn't before and I learned to
also if it's a friend you're talking to, you may care about *the fact that they care* rather than the thing itself, as in understanding and accepting that so-and-so is important to them, or at least important enough to have a conversation about

Being "relatable" is probably the worst thing to ever happen to comedy. It is, and I use this word carefully, LITERALLY, just saying "This thing happens sometimes" and somehow thousands of fucking people will love it and share it and act like it's revolutionary commentary. It's so fucking mind-boggling. Take a hundred thousand people, have them all laugh and cheer at being told how depressing their lives are, and while they're all having a good time congratulating themselves for being subpar manchildren, I'm over here watching and thinking that suicide would be a preferable alternative to living in this shallow, melodramatic, self-pitying culture

Well I'm in the UK. What you have is a surplus of people with degrees and not enough jobs. People swapped into biomed course from other sciences as they realised they were too niche and a general understanding with the ability to specialise once in a role is better it seems. Biomed is expensive, and like cell pathology, often slow. It isn't an attractive private sector area so if in the UK you will be looking at hospitals mainly. There are private sector opportunities though. I saw a company that makes columns for protein filtering and that was neat.

I don't actually work in biomed anymore, I used the knowledge and skills to get a job in a science type role elsewhere. Sounds like a copout, but my job now pays better and is less stressful.

Your degree will make you use a lab book. Don't stress about it. It's there to show you can do science good, but in the real world no one uses one, not the people I've worked with anyway.

And the reason why so many people are getting worse and worse at their anti-social tendancies is because of this dumb culture where saying, "I'm introverted!" suddenly becomes an excuse to not even try to get out of your comfort zone.

It feels like the social equivalent of someone drawing like ass and going, "It's my style".
>>
>>93612122
sort of.
since the turn of the 20th century the misconception that you needed to be extroverted to be happy and successful took hold.
They didn't realize back then that people are born introverted or extroverted.

I agree it can bounce back too far the other way.
Introversion is just sensitivity to stimuli, you don't like loud spaces, being watched, being around large groups of people, etc.
It has nothing to do with being a fucking NEET that never does anything.
Not liking parties is one thing, giving up on life is another.

It's more because there's a growing amount of people with social anxiety problems. There seems to be something about today's culture that is making the kids that grow up in more prone to anxiety and stress based issues, or at least less able to cope with them. It's probably a combination of things from helicopter/overly demanding parents, to the constant focus on financial/academic success as a measure of self worth, to a lack of proper socialization that prevented them from learning how to deal with stress or failure.
