I've always hated the "meme faces" that modern cartoons are doing a lot. It's like a halfassed and dated attempt to mimic trollface or those redditor rageface things. I saw someone make a response picture to one of those "CalArts face" troll images with a bunch of "expressive" faces from Adventure Time, Gumball, etc, which weren't really expressive at all, just a bunch of lines overdrawn on the character's normal face that don't look like anything more than just a grandma's wrinkled ass.

There is no underlying philosophy behind the style of the show compared to say AT or GF.
If you look up design sheets for those shows they have guidelines on how characters are structured, how limbs work, how they animate, etc.
This show clearly has no such thing, there is no leadership at the head of this show it's a clusterfuck of low skilled crewman with no captain.

For the most part it was pretty rare for them to be walking. They were almost always at least floating. The only time I can think of that stands out as them running/walking on their feet was the tag game in the movie.

You can hardly see the dice and the scene happens so quick and there's no establishing shot so no, it's just a mistake. Usually they do the obligatory call-out for the babys, like they'd have buttercup say "uh, that's 5" or something.

Everything about the new PPG is wrong. The story and animation pacing are garbage, the characters have wildly variable personalities, and holy shit the designs and facial expressions.

There's barely any consistency between motions and none between expressions. Half the time it doesn't even look like the same show. It just plunges straight into the uncanny valley when the characters do anything but idly stare at something. That mouth, those eyes, those decals, they just don't belong to that character but they're grafted on anyway. And the way anything moves just lacks finesse like this show's painfully obvious hyper-feminist message.

This show kinda has this weird veneer of ugliness to it though. I can't explain it, again, I know nothing about the process of art or animation, but it the only way I can describe it is that different parts of the art look like they were taken from different scenes, scrambled and reassembled at random by some kind of machine trying to fit the right arms, heads, etc to the right bodies, and not quite getting the right ones.
Almost like one person draws one thing, completely blind to the rest of anything else being drawn, and the next person draws the next, and so on, all of them completely unaware of what else is being drawn.

Yeah, it's a bad production pipeline with a few bad stations.
Apparently the storyboards are good, but the animators and riggers are shit. So when the storyboard indicates a pose and motion, the riggers cobble together existing assets, and the animators just puppet it around with motion tweens. The character artists could be the worst offenders, since they aren't keeping up with what assets the storyboarders need, and the designers are clueless shit heads with no concept of line weight or general QA (maybe because the artists are bad and they have to live with it?).

There's one good station and like 4 bad ones going on here.

The storyboarders are usually contracted out.
Remember Tyson Hesse, the guy who did Boxer Hockey? He worked on Gumball as a storyboarder and did a pretty smashing job, but he doesn't work there anymore. That's only one example, but it turns out that many storyboarders are pretty good comic artists, but don't animate, and likely don't have much creative freedom with the script as they'd need to make a decent arc.
