Suffers for real, St. Olga's. Suffers while (she thinks) it's her fault, Storm the Castle.

Stuff like being jealous in a petty way or being physically exhausted isn't great but also isn't really suffering.

She's freaked out/upset for most of St. O's and at one point thinks both Marco and Pony Head were lost, but that's also balanced out a bit overall by her at least knowing she's on the right side. Storm the Castle has less intense despair from her, but she felt it was her fault Marco was kidnapped in the first place and ultimately faced much greater consequences than anything that happened in St. O's.

I wonder if this show would get more credit for its worldbuilding/lore stuff from the people who discredit it if it had been from Marco's perspective and they'd tried to tease out some mystery about Star's origins and Mewni and how magic works and so on. All the plot events staying the same but I guess more along the lines of Steven Universe/Gravity Falls in terms of stressing ~MYSTERY~

Like it's easy to hear Star's a magical princess from another dimension in the first episode and disregard that and the whole show as "heh, dumb kiddy shit." But I feel like some of the people who are like "what lore, it's just a dumb 'princess show,' god" might've actually been into the exact same dumb shit if maybe at first it just started with Marco getting an exchange student who's just kinda weird, then you learn she can use magic, then you find out she's an alien, etc.

I dunno. I'm not at all saying it should've been like that (and to some extent the show does sort of increasingly build on what we already know as it progresses, if you actually watch it), but I wonder if not obviously pushing THIS IS SO MYSTERIOUS AND COMPLEX makes people trivialize/downplay what actual thought is there.

Y'know I have absolutely no idea about that but whatever you just wrote down sounds smart when I read it AND your picture is beautiful so I feel the need to reply.

The show definitely has a bit of an obstacle to jump across before you can really get into it.
But honestly I wouldn't want it any other way. With those initial first awkward appearances, the show sneaks up on whoever stuck with it and watched through with low expectations in mind.
I guess I can see an argument for that being a bad idea considering it's just generally harder for people to get into the show as a result.
But word will eventually spread, the fanart will gather eyes and the oh so glorious Amidst Amigo's will attract many.

The show will get it's full time in the spotlight after S3 starts I feel.

I wouldn't want to change it either. Even while you can look back and think certain things could've been done differently or better, you can appreciate that too because of how far everything's come since then.

I also really like that it does surpass many expectations and even some of the premises it established itself. Disappointing that it sometimes doesn't get the chance to prove that, but I hear enough comments about how it goes beyond initial expectations that it does feel like a strength in its own way.

I'd watched since it came out and always sort of wanted it to go where it ended up in Season 2, but still liked it for what it was early on and thought it was judged too harshly based on the small amount of episodes we had. After Storm the Castle I was actually sure it'd get more serious and have more lore the way it has, though this season was still better than I'd hoped too so that was good.

It's still weird to me that we're just halfway through the story so far; who knows where it'll go next.

That's more or less the opinion I had on Star when I first started watching. Star is just a shitty overdesigned, Mary Sue for an OC that Nefcy had the luck of pushing out onto a show.
Come S2 she's so much more than that now. I actually started liking her design and think it fits perfectly with who Star actually is.
Plus she has a ton of out outfits that all work really well. My favorite is the blue one and/or the BMB. I really hope we get to see more of either of those.

Yeah, I don't expect every new episode to be amazing but I also don't go in with low expectations either and start criticizing things before they air; just try to stay neutral until I see it. It's both impressed me and just been average enough times that it can always swing either way.

At least I feel confident that the story will get a real conclusion when it ends. Doesn't say much but I think they've proven that level of commitment.

So I was thinking about Baby..

Do you reckon that she was created by Glossaryck too, like Hekapoo, Rhom, Omni and Lekmet were? For starters she's got a big ol' crystal in her forehead which implies some kind of connection to the MHC/Rhombolus. More importantly though we've never seen any other of her "species", and every other creature Gloss fathered appears to be unique too. Finally she has way too much magic power to be a natural monster denizen of Mewni, though that doesn't exclude her being from another dimension - though then why else would she come to basically work for the Butterfly family?

I wonder what she does in the 20 years or so break between assessing a Butterfly princess. Maybe she also assesses royalty from other dynasties on Mewni or even other dimensions?

Of course if Glossy created her for a specific purpose, then this is probably all she does. But why isn't she important enough to be on the MHC too like his other creations?

Maybe the bottle is a dimension like the one the creatures in the wand occupy when not being sent out for spells. Her appearance makes me think Mewni + Butterflys but it's possible she does other stuff too.

I guess if Glossaryck did create her technically Baby is seen as below the queens in terms of importance, assuming her entire job really does revolve around them, and so wouldn't regularly be on the Commission. Could check in from time to time alongside Moon, maybe, for stuff involving the royal family.

I was also thinking similarly about Sean from Page Turner. We've never seen any other creature like him, he does appear to have magic powers (instantaneous teleportation), and serves a purpose (staffing the Bureaucracy of Magic). And it seems like totally a Glossy thing to do to just make one guy able to do all those jobs (door guard, receptionist, security screening, elevator operator) instead of multiple people.
